LD42 — Running out of space

Keys, Please! by Ellian 2018-08-15T05:17:57Z

Cute, fun and funny :P. The art, mechanics, sounds/music were all amazing. It has production value polish too, such as the car vibrations, Valerian's idle pose, the multi direction rotations, detail, and level design. Well done guys, it's amazing :).

Awesome game!, had some good fun. My biggest gripe was definitely the visuals. It was difficult to identify power ups and some of the main menu's interface because the images were too similar in brightness and saturation. It was also just not very appealing (sorry). That being said, everything else was pretty damn awesome. The music was really good, and fit the game perfectly. The relentless horde of enemies, and loss of space due to their littered dead bodies was fantastic. I also really appreciate the varying demons (size/functionality), kinda felt like "Doom Guy" :P. Wasn't a big fan of the dead corpses being pushed around by other demons, but it didn't interrupt the game too much, was just a minor annoyance.

Well done guys.

"Next Customer". Cool idea :)

In its current state there really isn't much to do but to get the items over as quickly as possible and pray the colliders register, and for that it got repetitive quite early.

The idea is awesome though, I'd like to see what can be done with it if you were to add more mechanics. Imagine being scored on speed, but you have to consider how fragile some items are (handle slowly or maybe balance), ensure the customer gives the right amount of money, or/add packing plastic bags etc.

Running from ⭐⭐Space⭐⭐ by sobakaduka 2018-08-18T08:48:41Z

"Violence, Speed, Momentum!" :P. All my favourite things in an FPS. I just absolutely love good control mechanics in a first person game and your game pretty much nailed that. In the beginning I was kinda wishing there were some sort of thruster mechanic to help me avoid asteroids. However, as I played I became more efficient at dodging them with the current mechanics, so there's a nice skill ceiling, which I always appreciate. In my opinion, I think the game will be a lot more fun if it focused more I gathering speed and flying through the asteroid belt. That's not to say I think you should get rid of the shooting mechanics, but I think killing monsters should be secondary to your main goal, and doesn't interrupt that goal but instead facilitates it. Like giving a speed or movement boost for kills. Maybe a weapon that shoots rockets will propel you in the opposite direction (not sure if that's how space works, but hey you had gunshot sounds and monsters so realism isn't too important :P). Oh god, imagine a rail gun for nice one shot kills so you can focus on movement, and look cool while doing it.

The 3D assets looked really good for the amount of time given, and the music fit your game really well in terms of speed and action. There were even multiple music tracks which really helped in not making things repetitive.

Definitely needs a restart button (unless I've missed something), and your game has a bad case of "mouse leaving the screen" on a 2+ monitor setup. Although, this was easily solved by temporarily changing my display to one screen (the hardships we face). Ummmm...yeah, pretty awesomely fantastic game. Please work on it more and sue ID for stealing your idea ;) ;).

Gut Reaction by blacksheepza 2018-08-14T16:35:08Z

Cute fun game. The art is really good, and the mechanics are solid. I liked how you have to dispose of your dead enemies before they become permanent hazards in the space, it gives a sense of urgency and works really well with the theme. It'd be cool to see the "exit" add more to mechanics such as maybe getting blocked if an enemy is stuck, but that's just me being anal.

Awesome game man. Mechanic is creative and fun, I loved how you can build your ram distance, it forces players to think of when to ram instead of just going wild and mindlessly ramming everything.

I'd very much prefer that the stones spawn on their own instead of when I move, because when it got to a point where I couldn't move anymore, I just stood there waiting to lose (oh, and can you lose?). Also, it'd be nice to have your ram meter build up on it's own, but very slowly. This will allow players to continue playing even if they've made bad decisions, whilst not being a crutch. Sound is good, art is good. Well done man.

@jeremy-ryan I too struggled with creating a python executable in the past, I found that pyinstaller was the quickest and simplest for me (Not sure if you used that)

Gunning Out Of Space by ytaha 2018-08-18T11:04:06Z

Incredible. This game is really well polished, and fun. At first, I thought the shooting mechanic was terrible due to the inaccuracy, but I soon learned that I had maintain a decent rate of fire to keep "recoil" down. This became one of my favourite features of your game because of how fundamental it is for lasting longer and getting a higher score. The crosshair size increase was also a really good indication of how innacurate my bullets would be. The art was great, and the music was enjoyable (although I think I went slightly deaf after first starting your game). well done, I had a lot of fun :)

Great concept, and amazing for 10 hours work. I really enjoy how the shapes of pieces dictate how you should progress as you want to have the most amount of time for the least amount of distance. I wasn't able to finish the first level because I couldn't see a blinking block, even in full screen, and so for a quite a while I thought the goal was to clear all the blocks with careful planned movements, which is a cool mechanic on its own.

GoldSlash by Gjallar 2018-08-18T11:18:45Z

Fun game. The art is good, the music is good (although it can get a bit repetitive after a few mins), the level generation is awesome, and the varying level aesthetics is very welcomed.

The combat controls don't feel very responsive, I'm never too sure if I'm hitting an enemy or getting hit. I also feel this game is in serious need of the ability to attack while midair so you can make more pathways, or otherwise get over a ledge that is just too high. Also, what does X do? I've noticed it hurts me, and doing it enough time gets me killed :S. I also noticed a bug where enemies would sometimes disappear, I suspect your enemy's and background layers are conflicting (didn't affect my gameplay too much).

Besides the combat mechanics, the game was pretty solid!

Hell's Highway by magicera 2018-08-18T06:50:52Z

Geez, is this what your Friday afternoons are like? :P . Awesome music and art, but the car control was a bit infuriating. I wouldn't have minded the kamikaze drivers if I had a better means of avoiding them. Otherwise a fun little game, it reminded me a small bit of the NES racing game: "Road Fighter".

Oh and I'm the best gamer ever(:P):

Foggy raft by dimlight 2018-08-15T17:57:51Z

AMAAAAAAZING! Definitely one of my favourites. Had fun building interesting looking rafts, even if I didn't really utilize its space. The game has production level polish, the art was amazing, and I personally enjoyed the music/sound. One particular design decision I loved was how you layed out the interface with the two views. I can't express enough how appealing it is to watch that side-view window even if it doesn't facilitate the game's mechanics. I couldn't stop thinking of how it could be expanded, such as having events (avoiding sharks, or surviving a thunderstorm), fishing, diving, maybe even dialogue... As for the traveling mechanics, they were really fun, but the insane speed of the monster made it difficult for me to really enjoy exploration. Furthermore, there wasn't really much to explore, but with the amount of content the game has already, that's understandable :P. I'm sure you guys have a bunch of ideas for things to be explored if you do intend on taking it further so I won't bore you with my ideas ;), great game!

Proxemik - Personal space invasion by troligtvis 2018-08-15T16:03:06Z

Had a good laugh with this. These huggers' animations and sounds are very suspect :P. The dash mechanic worked well with the challenge of having to escape the huggers, and I always appreciate a good dash mechanic ( I wish we could dash IRL). The AOE attack felt good, I tried to see how many huggers I could explode at once, things got very awkward. It would have been cool if you added a small score system to give players a sense of achievement (intrinsic goals). Also, I know you mentioned you didn't have time for the wall colliders, but I feel like that without them, it makes achieving the goal very easy through exploitation, if a player can exploit, they likely will. Anyway, overall it was awesome, cheers!

@tuism

1) Good point, I noticed at the very least that the movement/controls weren't intuitive, but it never really bothered me too much

2) Yeah, I ran out of time, and had a bad case of overscope so I quickly hacked a coin system to compensate for other mechanics that didn't make it

3) Couldn't agree more

4) I had a jump animation in mind from the beginning, and thought it was going to be relatively quick so I left it to the last hour to implement, but I was wrong. It's not that I thought it was difficult, I just didn't have the energy or time to fit it into my hacky mess.

@ZenriS Yeah a friend of mine suggested bigger tiles today, I think that would work a lot better :)

@jeremy-ryan @JSMCAG Thanks :D, I was hoping for all of these features, but I managed my time terribly and just couldn't get to it all in

ECO WARRIORS by FreeLivesGames 2018-08-14T16:10:02Z

Absolutely Hilarious and brilliant. The controls, polish, visuals, EVERYTHING was great. I really appreciated the brick house destruction, the sound combined with the falling physical bricks were sooo satisfying. I must admit, I spent most of my time in the game destroying the house :P. Please make more destructible houses!

Gaia speed.

The Gargoyle Landing by BoopsGames 2018-08-15T16:49:37Z

Spent good amount of time on this game. From my first play, I was about to quit until I realised you can push blocks off the game space, and it changed everything... I immediately restarted, and had a really good time. At one point I decided to disregard score, and just clear the space and it was super satisfying. I noticed that each new opponent was not only tougher, but gave the player a higher scored award for matching them, which was a really awesome combination of the mechanics from both genres. Great game, well done :)
