LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Rogues Like Beer by NickZangus 2018-12-06T00:07:26Z

Looks and plays great! Always love to see good puzzle games in a jam, and first time I saw a 3d take on the repeated suicide puzzle/platformer. Amazingly polished, noticed a bunch of fine movement tricks that really make it feel satisfying and rewarding (since it's more of a puzzler than a platformer, things like slightly going up the walls if you were about to miss a jump was really nice). Only issue was sometimes it switched back to my guy holding the switch down too quickly when i failed and i ended up running off (particularly in the last level), but besides that it was flawless.

Slime Laboratory by Jimbly 2018-12-03T22:47:05Z

Always love a pipe game personally. A little hard to get into but once you get the flow of it it's really fun!

Noah's Balloon by nettleflap 2018-12-06T00:25:17Z

Beautiful and polished, maybe a little hard and occasionally frustrating (and the nerve-wracking tilting of the balloon didn't ease the anxiety ), but overall a wonderful entry!

Sacrifices Must Be Made by danman9914 2018-12-05T23:39:37Z

Just perfect, not only does it look like it could be a fully released game, and not only does it play perfectly with great animations and game-feel, but it's also superbly balanced for a compo game as well. Just awe-struck (and I love your full games too  so wasn't a surprise). 10/10

Within by jhell 2018-12-03T22:23:13Z

Love how you spun the the theme into something more meta like sacrificing your controls. Also thought the level design was very cool and it was a little challenging but very satisfying to find all the starred papers, great game!

dropboy by torcado 2018-12-06T00:12:28Z

My favorite of the "input-sacrifice" mechanic games. A thoughtful puzzler (which I always enjoy seeing in jams), with a great look and clean game-feel. Fantastic!

Escape of the Cheese Droid by dob 2018-12-04T23:17:26Z

Very fun and interesting, and a great take on the theme, actually has strong impact on the gameplay. Great game!

TAMUTU by dietzribi 2018-12-06T21:20:21Z

Fantastic, one of the first bullet hell games I've actually had fun with. And the fact that you had to double up on the art is also impressive. Everything looks and plays great, and is decently balanced. One of my favorites this jam!

The Cold Equations by incobalt 2018-12-05T21:27:05Z

Best dialogue I've seen all jam for sure, very emotional and good for multiple playthroughs. Wasn't sure of the point of the different speeds though, unless you were planning on implementing a scenario on the ground (which would've been awesome, but understandable considering the time constraints). Great game!

FTD : Fixin' to Die by nuclearfriend 2018-12-06T23:48:47Z

A truly fun little game where real sacrifice has to be made and decided by the player. Perfect!

Bird Butt Battle Royale by uvwar 2018-12-06T00:15:52Z

Really funny and fun, with a slapper in the background. Love that you even put time into a loss cinematic. Beautiful (in a certain way)!

sleep by drtizzle 2018-12-04T23:00:24Z

Super moody, reminds me of the first time I played slenderman, and the aiming is realllllly smooth, I especially like the effects that happen when you turn. And the sacrifice mechanic actually impacts gameplay. Fantastic game, love it!

[ 66 DOWN ] by iseeicy 2018-12-04T23:44:05Z

Watched on ElysiaGriffin, amazing idea and super fun, could work with so many streams. One of my favorite games I saw, crowdsources comedy. Very cool!

Contagion by mrnyarlathotep 2018-12-04T20:46:39Z

Like the idea of a stripped down dungeon sim where you're self-sufficient on food (no stores or anything) and I definitely like the idea of the story, if this were fleshed out I'm sure it would be really cool. Great game!

Demon Dominoes by frosty 2018-12-04T21:47:50Z

Very polished and AI seems pretty good as well. Never played a real dominoes game before but was decently enjoyable. Very fun, great game!

Organic Harvest by shujal 2018-12-05T02:14:36Z

Maybe my favorite game of the jam. Completely astounded at how you all packed so much content so seamlessly into this game. Art is great, gameplay is satisfying and thoughtful, and the music is catchy. 10/10 from me.

STAR JUNK by christina-antoinette-neofotistou 2018-12-05T20:10:41Z

Cute and fun. Love all the little details in the world and UI. Great game!

Farm to Table by mrspeaker 2018-12-04T21:56:20Z

Very tender, very fun! Music on point, and art is just wacky enough to work. Great game!

Behead by wdelvi 2018-12-03T10:19:27Z

Extremely fun, very nostalgic vibe to old, fun, score-grindy flash games form my middle school days. Loved, the sounds, the point system, the tutorial, and the especially the feel. Reminded me of the fishery memory in Edith Finch, but turned into an arcade game instead.

Soul Traveller by Jiri Hysek 2018-12-03T03:34:47Z

Really fun! I loved how the puzzle and platforming elements meet, and the open level design makes it really fun and natural to explore and it feels very satisfying to figure out (or just stumble upon) the solutions. Along with just the aesthetic and the game-feel, it all makes for a really fun and satisfying experience.

Inflame by Talia 2018-12-04T22:00:05Z

Gotta keep the gameboy. Some hard choices here, would be cool if there was a little interaction at the end depending on your final choice, but still a nice fun little game!

Chickens For My Lord by Zayah0_0 2018-12-04T21:16:53Z

Very fun and great idea. I feel like you could've done without the teleport, and just mapped the shooting and sucking to left and right click, but otherwise was responsive and satisfying.

Sacrifice Knight by Balgorode 2018-12-03T03:05:10Z

Really liked how the level felt open-ended and free to explore, and the souls you get from monsters vs people felt well balanced. Had moments of fighting through enemies just barely about to run out and keeping it slightly alive with enemy souls and then I come across a few prisoners and I'm back to full and very relieved. Very fun and looks and sounds great too.

Space Virgins... In Space by FussenKuh 2018-12-03T10:11:30Z

Took me more tries than I'd like to admit to get a score on this (and it was only a B). I was thinking about it like an action game instead of a stealth game I think. Maybe just me but I thought this was just the right amount of hard, and the fun sounds and music helped to encourage my attempts. Great game!

The Trolley Problem by Ludovico 2018-12-04T05:56:35Z

Great idea and I always love to see puzzle games in jams. Also maybe my favorite music I've heard this jam so far. Only just wished it was easier to tell what the carts would do at intersections, but I figured out the logic of it eventually. Great game, keep it up!

Pyre of Vigil by Teapoly 2018-12-03T09:53:17Z

Really nice and fairly balanced for a card game in a gam jam. Good story, great art, and just fun to play. Made it out on my first try with only 2 health left, but that made it feel all the better :)

Checkpoint by JLV 2018-12-04T21:36:13Z

Looks great and definitely has potential. Loved the graphics and dialogue, especially in the "strength" path. If there were more options and maybe different endings that'd be amazing, but obviously no one's able to get everything done within the time limit. Great game!

Ronin Sacrifice: The Tale of the Last Rabbit by honey 2018-12-05T20:04:36Z

Fantastic all around. From the art, to the movement, to the concept, to the level design. Looks great and feels great, and the I even loved the last level (reminded me of the last level of stephen's sausage roll), just a little extra time with the game to give yourself a pat on the back for getting to the end. 10/10

Warlock Quest by Serious07 2018-12-05T02:19:32Z

Fun game, the tutorial could be a little more explanatory (took me a while to figure out that i had to right click), but otherwise a fun platformer/puzzler.

Purgatory by omercanbalandi 2018-12-03T23:02:43Z

Absolutely love the art, and the difficulty was fun but sometimes getting one shot felt a little too bad, and it was much easier to win the whole thing by just staying in the first arena ( but what's the fun in that :P ). Great game!

One Life by artbohr 2018-12-04T20:40:48Z

Nice game, could probably be spun into a cool detective game if expanded on. Art is amazing too.

Eco-logical by jerripo 2018-12-05T21:32:29Z

Love the concept. Good fun little game, the "save" bug was confusing until I read the description and understood. Art is superb, love the level and the magic inspired cards. Would be really cool if you fleshed this out to see all the interactions of the systems when it ramps up, but a lot of good content for a compo.

Shepherd Sacrifice by aCuriosity 2018-12-03T23:23:09Z

Though there's not much to do it's still pretty fun as a sandbox, mechanics feel good. And love the song!

Robot Altar by BoopsGames 2018-12-05T20:34:24Z

Very challenging but very fun, really had to think for some of these. Also thought some of the bouncy physics were hilarious (whether or not it was intended to have the car fly off at a million miles per hour when it hits the blue at certain angles). Always love to see puzzle games in jams and this is up there in the most fun I've had with a jam game! Fantastic!

Tezcacoatl's Dance Dance Paradise by numeralien 2018-12-03T10:01:21Z

Thought it was maybe a bit too easy, and then those wild diagonals got thrown in. Beautiful and fun!

Necromancer by Cameron Borthwick 2018-12-04T22:36:03Z

A fun game, not too challenging but definitely satisfying. Great job!

Sons of Vanity by nkrim 2018-12-04T20:36:06Z

@mrspeaker that family tree thing is a great idea, wish I would've thought of it / had the time to implement

Sons of Vanity by nkrim 2018-12-04T22:19:33Z

@jhell you're right, I put a section in the LD description with a more well-explained version of the mechanics, hope that helps!

Sons of Vanity by nkrim 2018-12-04T23:34:24Z

@maksim-chugunov if I had just a _little_ more time I would've added a timer to get some pressure in there to make it harder as it goes on, because yeah otherwise if you just remember the features then it's a little trivial to go on forever. Thanks for playing for that long though lol!

Sons of Vanity by nkrim 2018-12-06T02:03:09Z

@pennycook was down to the wire this time so sadly couldn't throw in the sounds i made (in bfxr nonetheless ). I also didn't really have time for balancing/playtesting, and I think I could have done more to ramp up the difficulty, and I now realize that adding more options as time goes on makes it easier, which is the opposite of what I wanted lol, but once you get all 7 choices it's the exact same loop until you lose, nothing else behind the scenes except randomness. I would have liked to make it more difficult, but my time management isn't that great lol.

Sacrifices For Valhalla by Linkouille 2018-12-04T22:52:26Z

On mac it says it can't be opened, looks really cool so hopefully you can fix that, or can try on my friends PC :)

Key Sacrifice by Marc Garcia-Penche 2018-12-04T22:08:09Z

Great idea and execution. Fun and challenging.

Knight Soul Redemption by BGameDev 2018-12-03T23:08:21Z

This is crazy for your first jam, absolutely beautiful and love the mechanics (if only it lasted for longer). I especially love the top-down but 3d style, reminded me of Exanima. I'm sure you just didn't have time but if there were more levels that make more use of the sacrifice mechanic, that would be really awesome. Great game!

Death Metal Crowd Pusher by WizardOfOzzy 2018-12-05T20:16:17Z

Simple idea but executed perfectly, and fits very well in the theme. Everything looks and sounds great, and the gameplay is very satisfying.

Sacrifice Party by Tornoz 2018-12-05T01:59:23Z

Really nice game. Gonna dig into the code for the drawing comparison, I always love those kinds of mechanics but never made one myself. Played it 3 times over, loads of fun.

Eldritchual by arkinrev 2018-12-05T23:02:45Z

Absolutely loved it. My favorite of these group-management sims that I've seen so far this jam. In the mid-game it was fun trying to balance all the meters while still getting cultists in, but it gets a little trivial once you get enough cultists but since there's an end condition it just feels like a satisfying ramp to the finish. Loved the art and the particle effects to show which meter they were contributing to, and the theme is on point. Also always appreciate a tutorial (even though I didn't even have time to put one in lol). Great game!

Food Chain by Jessé Santana 2018-12-06T02:07:59Z

Very cool, would've loved to see more levels to explore the mechanics and their consequences more, but it's still great fun and very interesting.

Shooting Chickens by PxLucasF 2018-12-04T23:10:19Z

Neat, fun, casual. Love the looks and sounds!

The Pink Slip by shulololo 2018-12-05T00:34:59Z

Love the concept and aesthetic, reminds me of one of Lucas Pope's (of Papers Please and Obra Dinn) LD games here: http://dukope.com/play.php?g=uns

Hemorrhage by Arcling 2018-12-04T02:43:53Z

Very cool, love the art and the idea. Just wish the mechanic was more intwined with the level design, I never felt like it was effecting me unless I was really screwing up. Overall it was fun though.

Dog Dog Dungeon by bubblewandgames 2018-12-05T21:14:58Z

One of my favorite games of the jam for sure. Perfect difficulty (hard but not impossible), and solid puzzle elements and very clean platforming. Feels satisfying to both the fingers and the brain, and looks and sounds great while doing it. 10/10

Memento Morty by okuar 2018-12-04T20:54:01Z

Cool take on the suicide-platformer genre with having the line-of-sight be an issue, just wish it was more relevant in the level design, usually just ended up sitting and waiting for the previous versions to die. But despite that the levels were still fun and a little challenging, and overall a great entry!
