Really cool. I liked how you added some graphical effects while still keeping the vector style.

craigduth 2018-08-14 01:53

The visuals were awesome! Everything really fit together. Nice FX when ship dies too. And I liked the mechanics of a growing ship

netguy204 2018-08-14 02:00

:boom: This thing oozes style! Beautifully done. Once I understood the goal I felt pretty awesome whipping around in my little scaling ship. I think something to change up the pacing from time to time would be nice--like, suddenly there's more drag or suddenly everything starts tending to the right. Something macro-environmental to help mark time and progress through the game.

inferture 2018-08-14 02:01

Nice one, pretty polished and I liked the neon light graphics. Perfectly fits into the theme too

eatthepath 2018-08-14 02:54

This is fantastic. The sound is perfect, the lopping point of the music popped out at me a little now and then but otherwise it is very good. The visuals are right up my alley, the twist on asteroids is quite good. Just making the sides not wrap is good difficulty increase on it's own for someone who has played Asteroids before. My only complaint is that once you get a handle on the basics it doesn't ramp up the difficulty very fast, a little more pressure after the first minute or two would have been good I think.

tuism 2018-08-14 12:33

Looks and sounds good. The effects and the explosions are particularly well done.

The gameplay is a bit conflicted - the combination of the 1 hit death with the slippery controls that pushes the player towards being very very careful means that a lot of the game ends up being little bits of thrust and drifting towards targets hoping not to get hit. Much tighter controls might make the game feel more active and encourage players to go after goals with some kind of bravado. But the one hit death really takes that away.

Oh and I didn't even notice that the ship scale was changing on its own. Does the ship's scale actually mean the scale of all the rocks around? If so, then there's something to note - if the "world" scales, the the position of stuff would also change - not just the scale of all the rocks. So if the rocks are scaling only to communicate a scale change, it reads wrongly.

The icons are weird. The two arrows pointing outwards meaning "scale down" is completely the opposite of what is expected from that visual.

samurai-ducks 2018-08-14 15:23

The game looks really cool and we love the text effects when collecting the power-ups. The whole neon look makes for a really cool vintage feel. Some visual feedback for your speed would be a cool finishing touch! Keep it up!

roidz 2018-08-14 22:25

@cincerteri @craigduth @netguy204 @inferture Thanks a lot :)

@eatthepath Thanks, about the sound. Are you experiencing this on the webgl build ? I know the unity webgl builds sometimes haves issues with looping sounds. That said, i just didn't had enough time to proper test the looping point of the music.

@tuism Thanks. The slippery controls are wanted. This resembles some of the classic 80's games i was aiming for. It feels hard at the beginning but after a while it gets easy and rewarding 'drifting' yr ship around the asteroids. About the scaling: the ship scales over time, the asteroids on collisions. They are not tied together and scale up separate from each other. About the arrow icon: This was a rushed job and i see what you mean. My goal was to represent 'scale' or 'size' with the arrows, not really scaling down (or up). Due to time restrictions i had i couldn't spent too much time on them and i was already happy that i could fit them in in time (last hour before deadline).

@samurai-ducks Thanks ! I was experimenting with visual 'speed' feedback for the ship but my initial results looked like shit and didn't fit the rest of the look of the game. I checked some of the oldskool vector games i was taking inspiration from and found that a lot of 'spaceship' games didn't had any visual feedback for a ship flying. Therefore i decided to skip the whole idea and used my time on more critical matters. Did you manage to livestream some of the LD42 games ? if you, i would love to see the recorded video of it.

To everyone: Thanks a lot for testing and reviewing my game, i wills start returning the favour right now :)

eatthepath 2018-08-14 22:34

@roidz I was playing on the WebGL builds yes.

kale-the-quick 2018-08-14 23:31

This was a fun game! There are a bunch of fast paced room shrinking games this dare, and I was thinking "Someone should make a game where you get bigger!" And here we are, and it's a slow paced game with a bit of thinking required. It looks good, it plays well, and the music gets the juices flowing! Great little game :D

planetgames 2018-08-15 00:03

excellent demake of the classic

swini 2018-08-15 00:11

I like the holo, laser,neon effect(don't know how it's called). It's simple but good and the effect makes it beautiful! The contolls are hard because the rocket accelerates slowly. After turning it's difficult to get speed- But with a bit of gameplay and training it's easy. Also like the music!

andrey-ugolnik 2018-08-15 00:33

Nice visual style. Game's itself looks like Asteroids game for homemade computers in 80th.

kristov 2018-08-15 01:50

Love the style. Reminds me of my childhood! heheh

carlos-giraldo 2018-08-15 02:02

Great solid game, hard to find any feedback to give.

roidz 2018-08-15 02:46

@kale-the-quick @planetgames @swini @andrey-ugolnik @carlos-giraldo Thanks all :)

@kristov Yeh same here :) thanks

thomas-olsson 2018-08-15 02:51

Very solid concept. I would recommend a minimum speed requirement to die by colliding map's borders, but that's a matter of taste. Otherwise, the game over is too long, but that's all I could say. Big quality here !

cavalsilva 2018-08-15 02:58

Great game, this game remember me an Asteroid (Atari)

bustosman 2018-08-15 03:08

Overall the game is good, maybe have the impulse respond quicker instead of slower.

jared-york 2018-08-15 04:20

I enjoyed the game overall. I really liked the retro asthetic as well. The only thing I can really think of as a suggestion would be to make the player turn a tad bit faster. Other than that it's great!

rargrave 2018-08-15 04:22

Nicely done. Well polished and put together game. The addition of the theme to asteroids worked much better than I expected, a subtle twist in the mechanics really changed the game.

One small thing I would have liked is a small visual for the thrust... some small dots out the back of the ship or something.

doug-graham 2018-08-15 06:29

Really rad game. Love the retro asteroid feel and controls. Audio was great, and the hitbox felt nice. Great take on the theme, well done.

magmafortress 2018-08-15 09:20

Very nice! Well polished and fun game. I also wish I was able to rotate the ship faster

iballs 2018-08-15 20:16

nice game! maybe have a level difficulty, with borders is the hard level and without is the easy level I like that u added a button mapping in the settings

roidz 2018-08-15 20:42

@jared-york @magmafortress Thanx for testing. I found out that the slow turning is a bug that only happens if people force vsync off in their videocard settings (i think). I fixed this because this was due faulty rushed control code on my part,i considered it to be a game breaking bug. I only fixed that bug and reuploaded the game, the ship should turn equally fast on all computers/settings now.

If you don't mind to give the game another chance, please do so and reconsider any ratings given. Thanks in advance :)

roidz 2018-08-15 20:45

@thomas-olsson The difficulty is intended to mimic how hard some of the oldskool arcade games used to be. I definitely could tweak difficulty though but because of the time restrain i didn't got to proper testing.

@cavalsilva @bustosman @doug-graham @iballs Thanks all :)

@rargrave yeh,others mentioned this also and i tried to implement this, but it felt rushed and made the game look a lot less nice so i decided to just get rid of it (for now)

zombie-virals 2018-08-15 22:24

I really enjoyed this game!! At first I was kind of bummed about not being able to shoot, but honestly, that is what made it fun! Just being pure evasive action, and getting the various powerups! The music was very nice and the sound effects were really nice! Controls were really well done too! I'm really looking forward to playing this through my older IBM CRT monitor once I get a VGA switching box! Great job!!

roidz 2018-08-15 22:39

@zombie-virals Thanks ! I enjoyed playing your game too, i guess our games are a bit similar to each other. At least we had the same rough idea to start with and went it slightly different ways from there. :)

zombie-virals 2018-08-15 22:45

@roidz No problem! Glad you enjoyed mine as well! I can't really take credit for the idea so much as my partner Doug was behind the concept/design, but definitely some similarities! This was my first time making a space shooter for a jam(before I started jamming a few months ago I played around with a couple space shooters), but I had fun! :)

zicboy 2018-08-15 23:59

Loved the style and mood of the game! Great job!

vlashikito 2018-08-16 03:45

I really enjoy the graphic and the mood you game had, like YourBrother said, it miss the controls but yeah, great entry anyway ! hope to see more from you !

mukult 2018-08-16 04:43

Wow! I love this kind of art!! This is absolutely fantastic... Loved the gameplay. Everything felt super smooth.. One thing if i had to give feedback on ..it will be that when i press space it will be good to see some visual indication of the booster on screen as well along with the audio cue. It will help the game a lot i feel. Anyways...amazing work!

gmaker 2018-08-16 06:53

I like so minimalitic games! It was very hard to play but I didn't give up ) Well Done!

tetra 2018-08-16 19:58

I liked this, thought it was a bit too slow for me. Can't fault the art at all, and with these sorts of games it can be frustrating if the controls are bad, luckily here I think they are solid. I think it'd be cool to see this at double speed, as I didn't really notice the ship increasing in size much.

antoined73 2018-08-17 13:58

Super nice game, you nailed it ! Graphics, sounds, ambiance and gameplay are amazing ! The physics of the ship are nicely done. The game made me wanted to play several time for sure x) Congratulations !

roidz 2018-08-17 16:04

@zicboy @vlashikito @mukult @gmaker @tetra @antoined73 Thanks a lot all of you !

randomphantom 2018-08-17 18:25

Solid gameplay and cool concept! Love the explosion effect. Minimalist graphics were well done and the music was really cool too. Would prefer if the collectibles show some form of time left, as sometimes they just disappear right when you reach them.

literallyjosh 2018-08-17 18:30

Really nice game overall. Only minor (tiny, insignificant) complaint is that I you can't press a button to restart as far as I can tell, you have to reach for the mouse to click.

nufflee 2018-08-17 18:32

Cool game even though I'm quite bad at it because the controls are kind of sloppy but I think that's how its supposed to be. Good job!

patrickrmc 2018-08-17 18:57

Nice game, I really like the neon style, the controls felt good and it really fit with the theme, nice work!

shertigan 2018-08-18 14:23

wow! This game is so hard, but it's cause i'm bad at controlling this ship x) That's a really cool game!

roidz 2018-08-20 23:02

@randomphantom @literallyjosh @nufflee @patrickrmc @shertigan All of you... Thanks !

tontonpizza 2018-08-21 00:09

Nice game in all aspect, reminds me a game i played on the vectrex once

babyking 2018-08-21 00:59

Solid entry. I enjoyed the nuance of the movement although the size of the level forced me to be quite conservative with how fast I went for better or worse. Thanks for the game!!

ctrble 2018-08-21 04:00

Definitely found that the trick is to take it easy with this one to avoid running into stuff, feels like a precision game once you get the hang of it. Great graphics and sound, I enjoyed this one!

nam-nguyen 2018-08-21 07:11

The game gets hard very quick despite looking like an easy game. At the moment the gameplay is a bit passive as the players don't have many options to manipulate the rocks besides Kaboom-ing them. I wished there were an item to scale down the asteroids and a boost to protect me in x amount of seconds as well, then I could play a bit more reckless xD. Now because I cant touch anything, the game feels a bit slow. However, if that's what youre going for, youve got it! Overall, very cool visual, lovely music, interesting game play, a very promising entry. Some more boosts, some more shapes for the rocks then it'd be good for a mobile game. Great job!

roidz 2018-08-23 00:41

@tontonpizza @babyking @ctrble Thanks all !

@nam-nguyen i'm working on a post version that uses a lot of the feedback here,including yours. Most of yr suggestions were planned but got dropped by the lack of time.

Thanks for playing !

agar3s 2018-08-24 02:34

A very solid game, I like the idea of you can't shoot, I found difficult the simple mechanic of control the ship on asteroids, so kudos for that! The aesthetics work well, nice job!

mza 2018-08-24 15:18

I found that the slower you go, the further you last and the higher your score. The floaty mechanics adds to the challenge. Highly polished for a gamejam game. Well done!

danielblanco3d 2018-08-31 18:54

Nice game! It is like asteroids but you can“t shoot and you are in a little space. Nice explode laser effect and sounds.

gil4 2018-08-31 19:49

Great game, stylish and achieves its goal of reminding the players of those classic arcade games! Difficult controls added to the overall charm imo, and I also like how the initial asteroids were breaking into pieces increasing the difficulty. Ship scale isn't an issue for quite a long time, so ignoring the "become smaller" power-up is easier in the beginning, though based on other comments wanting this game to become even harder is sadistic of me, I guess. :D All in all, it's a pleasant and polished game, I enjoyed it. Well done!

ursagames 2018-09-04 13:26

Really chill aesthetic! It felt very polished. Gameplay was really enjoyable too. Thanks for sharing your game with my stream awhile back. Your game was played around 2:47 into this vod: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/299925225
