LD46 — Keep it alive

Hive Alive! by Remco 2020-04-22T09:26:24Z

I love the raytracing tech, but didn't feel like the game design made use of it at all. There is probably some depth to the strategy element of this, and I wanted to figure it out, but the interface was fairly obscure and I couldn't keep all of the instructions in my head at once to understand what was going on, so I bounced off it despite my best efforts. Also, the sound effects are rather abrasive. Eventually I gave up on the game and just started looking around the room and appreciating the reflections, which was more fun for me. I'd love to see you reuse this renderer in the future with maybe a higher resolution and a game design that shows off its capabilities.

I would have definitely gone for interlacing rather than dithering, and/or just upping the system requirements to play the game smoothly. Especially since it's not an action game, a lower framerate (say, 20fp instead of 60) is not such a big deal.

Great puzzler! The graphics may be simple, but they're cute and easy to read, so in my opinion they're pretty good. I loved seeing everything bop to the music! I suffered a bit on some of the more heavily timing-based sections, and there were a couple early bits that I think I solved by accident without fully understanding what I did, but on the whole it was a solid and original puzzle game, which I know isn't easy in a game jam setting. I'd definitely like to play more of this if you decide to continue working on it after the jam.

It definitely seems like if you remove the timing-based sections, the game would lose a bit of its personality or identity. And they add some depth for sure, so I'd be sad to see them removed entirely. I think being under time pressure while also trying to figure out a new mechanic may have been what was tripping me up. And on the very last level, I think it would be nice be given time to survey the level and come up with a plan at first, instead of being thrown right into the action each time the level resets.

The web build didn't load on firefox or chrome, but I was able to run the windows build under wine, and I'm very glad I did. Good lord, what a game. I guess I don't need to tell you all the reasons why your game is amazing, I'm sure you already know. And I don't want to spoil anything for others. But needless to say, I didn't realize I was holding my breath there at the end until it was over... now I think I need to go decompress for a bit. You guys are incredible storytellers, thank you so much for making this.

Nothing to Z Here by cakemonitor 2020-04-22T20:03:37Z

The game didn't load for me at all on firefox, and took a long time to load on chrome (with no visible progress indicator). The premise of the game is quite funny, but it seems like zombies don't behave properly when offscreen in general, and the the behavior of Steve when told to feed seems a bit random, which leads to some frustrating gameplay. But it was very easy to pick up because of the solid in-game tutorial, which is something most LD games don't have, and I appreciated that a lot.

I like the art style a lot, but mouselook feels sluggish and inconsistent regardless of sensitivity, and the web build seems to be buggy and will spontaneously stop capturing mouse input sometimes, which prevented me from enjoying it much. Also, y-axis inversion should probably be off by default.

The web build does not load for me in either chrome or firefox.

web build is broken for me (macos 10.13, firefox 60.0b14 / chrome 66.0.3359.117) - on chrome all the models are pure green, and on firefox nothing 3D is visible at all

Crops in Space by mrjoshuamclean 2018-04-26T01:17:32Z

I got an error when asking why I can't sell seeds https://pastebin.com/XRDzbULC

I was able to continue playing after that, but eventually got stranded in a situation where there was no way for me to continue, so I didn't make it to the end. I like the tradeoffs involved in the mechanics, but it's a bit overwhelming to have everything dropped on you right at the beginning in such a numbers-heavy game.

@Lerg I think I've fixed the mac build now. Can you try downloading and running it again?
