@king-kujito It should work on mac, but because it's Love2D there's no web content.
@conrad123 I downloaded it via itch, but didn't see any files I could run sorry
@king-kujito it's a zip. Extract it first then run the .exe
The game is fairly hard since the platforms have the same size as the player, it would be good if the platforms are wider. I like the graphics and the tutorial. The best thing about your game is the tutorial. Overall I like the game and would recommend it to everyone
I like the music and the simplicity of it all, but the controls just weren't working for me. The floaty jump felt weird and it got pretty frustrating pretty fast. I kept at it for a while, but I didn't get very far.
It's a simple but frustrating game. There is a good choice of colours in the art, and the character, while just a box with a single black dot, has this "cute" look to it. The backgrounds are also quite pretty looking. The music has a choice of instruments that make it very warm and calm sounding, which is great for a game of this demeanour. I actually like the idea of the mechanic itself, and how you gradually get more jump height as you progress upwards. It made the ending really satisfying. Oh, also the 8bit sound effects are good. To me, it looked like the character was a cloud who fell to the ground and was jumping to join the other clouds in the sky. I know it wasn't the case, but the character really did look like one of the clouds. :P
Some issues:
- The energy limitation on the jumping seems useless. Despite the frustrating platforming, I never found myself running out of energy, even after multiple tries. - I also didn't get the point of having more than one enemy in the same platform in later areas. Both of them grant you energy, and once you kill one, you can just stand at the E point and you become practically immortal to the other enemy. - I wasn't a fan of the enemy combat. It took too many hits, in my opinion, to kill an enemy, and I almost always inevitably got hurt in the process. The energy bar for the monsters goes down too slowly to notice that you're actually landing a hit. Daylight 02.png - The platforming was ever so frustrating near the end. Lots of tiny platforms, ceilings to limit your jump, arrows that point you in a vague direction but you're not exactly sure how far you have until you land on the next area - all these things can cause me to *just* barely miss a platform and hug it on its side. When I miss, I basically find myself trying to fall all the way down so that I can die and be reset. - I will give you this though: I'm very glad the character respawns at the last E point. - The main character is nearly the same colour as the clouds in the background, thus, when one of the clouds is behind the character, the two practically blend in with each other. This makes it harder to fend off enemies, and just see the character to position it properly for platforming altogether (see below). Daylight 01.png - Like others say, I think the platforms that are about the same width as the character should be wider, too.
That aside, I thought this game was pretty good. One just requires a lot of patience to get past the jumpy controls. But the gradual shift in gravity and day to space-night sets a nice mood and leads perfectly to a satisfying end.
@random-storykeeper I can't believe you finished the game! Thanks for the incredible feedback. Yes, the difficulty level of this game can definitely be improved (it's way too hard). I agree with everything you've said here. I haven't made a platformer before, so this was a good experience for me. But the only way I can improve is through feedback like this. Thanks a ton!
I was surprised that I enjoyed the game so much since I'm not really a fan of platformers! The music is very relaxing good job! I would recommend making the starting part a bit easier, maybe wider platforms, it's very hard for a new player
Nice little platformer. Just difficult enough. Thank goodness there are "E" spawn points! Enjoyed the game.
I'm not going to lie, I mostly just found this frustrating. The level design is really unforgiving. Maybe consider making the platforms larger and not stacking them directly above one another. Jumping using energy also didn't really add to my enjoyment of the game either. And, since I'm venting, maybe use a technology that runs in a web browser instead of forcing reviewers to download the game.
The background music was nice and I liked the aesthetics of the game though. I also like that the goal is to go up rather than side-to-side, I know that this is becoming more common (presumably because smart phones are portrait, so vertical scrolling fits into that form factor), but I still think there is scope to make something novel and unique that uses that constraint in an interesting way. I think if you rounded out some of the other issues, you'd have a really solid entry.
Phew. That was just too hard for me I'm afraid and I didn't get very far at all. The character just moved too fast. It looked so cute and the mellow music deceived me into thinking it was going to be a sweet gentle platformer but no it's hard as nails! Haha. Really nice minimal aesthetic, I'm disappointed I couldn't get further to see more.
Sorry to say that I too became frustrated with this one. I got to here:

...and it was just too unforgiving for me. It was no longer fun - I felt like I was fighting with the controls rather than the challenge of the game.
It's a shame because I like the simple, colourful graphics and the music is subtle and effective. Maybe I'm just becoming too impatient!
That download DEFINITELY doesn't work on Mac. You shipped a Windows EXE and Windows DLLs. It's not a problem (I have a Windows machine now, too, yay!) but just FYI, those two platforms are *not* compatible.
About the game itself: I really liked the idea, and the simplicity of the design. Unfortunately, I'm very bad at this kind of game, but it felt a little too difficult for me ;) I didn't get very far yet, but I'll try again tomorrow when I have more time!
I did eventually manage to make it to the end, but this game is way too difficult. Many of the jumps require ridiculous precision, and there are often multiple of these precise jumps in a row. I also don't like the energy mechanic. All it really does is make failing jumps more frustrating since not only have you lost progress, you've also wasted energy too. However, I do really like the idea of gravity getting weaker as you move higher. It creates a nice sense of progression and allows the gameplay to naturally change to keep things varied. I think the game could have focused on that mechanic more. Perhaps the gravity could start stronger to emphasise the change, and the camera could zoom out to let you see further when your jumps get higher. Regardless, the graphics are simple but they all look pretty good. There's a nice use of solid colours, plus it's really cool how the sky gradually gets darker as you move upwards.
The idea is fun, and both the music and graphics is great. Okay the game is really difficult, but that is okay.
The gravity getting weaker the farther you progress is really cool. I love that. The energy mechanic and the combat were weird, I would much prefer satisfying *thud*s with punches instead of slowly depleting enemy bars. And maybe instead of energy, make them create checkpoints that I can return to with the press of a button in case I fall down.
Really cool, calm, fun game! Love the music, it just tops off the smooth brilliance of the game, even when it gets frustratingly challenging. Brilliant entry!
Thats a really fun idea for platform game, really liked it, just try to implement some different challengs or enemies and it will become great!
Also, test my compo entry here too, need some more few ratings too now! thanks ;D https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/anthills-multitask
Played it to the end despite some frustration. I did really like the subtle changes as you progressed and the music helps set the mood nicely too.
good design, and quite challenging to play. maybe a bit too hard in some places. a nice aesthetic though :)
I beat the game, loved the challenge. I felt that the enemies didn't add much to the gameplay, like an artificial combat system that was put in for the sake of having combat. A static refuelling station with no combat would've worked for me. Also, energy didn't feel necessary. I liked the gravity mechanic, and near the end when the sky turns dark and the stars appear. Music worked for me, but got a little annoying after hearing the same loop multiple times. Overall a pretty enjoyable entry though :)
Rated. Keeping it short so your score on feedback friends doesn't suffer ;)
Wow! Congrats! I just finish the game! The music is really good. Relaxing :) The game is little hard at some point but hopefully, you made Checkpoint!! Nice level design. The change of gravity is well! Good job on this game!!
love this kind of games, Gj!
Here's my short comment. [And here's my game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/planet-heist)
Test comment
I'll echo what others said, that the platforming was frustrating in places - between some fiddly jumps and tight platforms, it tried my patience a bit to fall down a long way and have to repeat things. A somewhat generous checkpoint system of some sort would have been helpful, just to reduce the situations where people will have to repeat a tough section multiple times.
Totally forgivable, though - designing levels and getting the balance right in 48 hours is tough!
The premise was really well executed, though, and the music set a great mood.
Do I get a cookie? :)

Exceedingly difficult but cute platformer, really liked the gravity mechanic.
Interesting game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMCwacAGwrA
