Does it work in html? My screen was just black? I won't rate just yet :D
@itsjustjord It does! If you're using google chrome Or Firefox it should work just fine out-of-the-box!
@pandan :O must be me, there was no exe in the dropbox? :?
I am using google chrome and my screen is also just black, the timer is there, the music is playing, the menu works, but there's no visuals or sounds coming from anything.
@itsjustjord it's a web build. You need to click this link: https://pandan.itch.io/ludum-dare-43-compo The source is for the Unity files. There is no Desktop version. EDIT: I realized the dropbox link was incorrectly labeled.
Worked fine for me on Chrome. Good looking game! It was very hard to control all the tanks at the same time and make them do what you wanted, but that may be on purpose.
Like the idea, however, the camera movement felt really awkward and hard to control. Otherwise, Nice Work!
I will submit a desktop build for those having trouble
Super hard, I wasn't expecting to have to think before loosing all my tanks but one ^^' I really like the design of the tanks :)
Nice use of the theme! Besides bit wonky camera, the game worked well for me and I almost made it to the end in around 3 minutes. Well done!
Love the idea of the synced controls. Really great take on the theme. Camera can be a little dizzying.
Web build worked just fine for me. I liked the idea and some of the puzzles were pretty fun.
I tried multiple times, cause it looks very nice (graphics, music, concept), but I think the camera controls were my worst enemies in this game ! I only played in browser, maybe that's it?
Windows build submitted.
@sthor726 The camera was the biggest struggle for me haha. I'd recommend a controller as it makes the camera controls a bit more bearable.. My apologies <3
For those of you who say it's not working, try another browser. Chrome didn't work for me, but Edge did. And to you, creator, I absolutely love this game. It's incredibly difficult at times, but that's to be expected when you're controlling a group of bots at once. I love it, and you should be proud of this.
For those having camera issues, I HIGHLY recommend a controller if you have one. Any Xinput controller works. For those without, the fullscreen button makes the mouse controls a bit better.
I died
Love this one. Reminds me a lot of Katamari in the palette and presentation.
Well done! Looks nice and the mechanic fits the theme really well. Solid submission!
Solid Game. Realy Nice Mechanics. well done :D
Very cool idea. Respect for taking on such a design heavy concept in a game jam. Only thing this needs now, is some sound effects :)
Really cool game, especially the core mechanic. As for me, it needs faster soundtrack, but, anyway, the game is nice:)
What a great game! I had so much fun playing this and I'll definitely try it with a controller. Love the idea and the way it's executed. The last part of the game is a nightmare
It's fun and tricky to archive (3 bots is my best for now). Nice bot design (but it's lack a bit on cohesion between bot and some environment texture), great for 48h work.
Very interesting game - and complex and enjoyable to play as well. It can be difficult at times to re-group the robots and the camera has difficulty seeing all the robots if one gets left behind - for example at the spinning cylinder
I really liked your idea here. It kind of reminds me of an older ldjam game 'snakeforce' where you had a line of soldier that all walked the same way, like your bots. The puzzles are pretty solid. Using the barriers to line up the bots was a great idea. I coulnd't finish the whole game (ragequit after failing on the last bit 3 times in a row, haha, but I really liked it. I did think, however, that that the difficulty curve was a bit steep, especially in the beginning with a lot of bots. It's quite hard to get them all perfectly lined up, since they like clustering up. Anyway, good job!
The idea, the music and graphics is really good. For me the keyboard controls made the game really difficult to play.
Works fine for me on chrome, if you see the black box you need to enable hardware acceleration.
As for the game itself, I thought it was great. I totally and utterly suck at it, but don't blame the game for my lack of skill with these things. I thought it was a great take on the theme, it's fun and it looks great.
Amazing game, nice take on the theme and its fun and has good graphics, well done!
Good job! Hard but fun
It really reminded me of a game called Swarm if I recall correctly. I was thinking of making something similar as it fits the theme perfectly but changed my mind in the end. It is nice to see this initial swarm idea making into this event with such a beautiful implementation. Good job!
This was impressive. The number of sub-quests, the polish. Congratulations!
@nakami I think 3 bots is the highest score possible haha. My level art was closer to the solid colors of the bots, toward the end I leaned toward materials. I wanted it to feel like you were a tiny robot in a human world.
@carlpilot There needs to be a "kill bot further from the group" button. Totally agree, also the camera really sucks.
@virtual-turtle-studio It could benefit from checkpoints for sure lol. Thanks for the comments!
@binarylynx do you mean this game?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swarm_(2011_video_game) Thank you for the comments :)
- would have been nice if the mouse locked in the web version, made it hard to get some camera rotations - really nice graphics - interesting game play - only had 1 location were i had to sacrifice a bot to continue
The awful control of the camera really killing me! But the graphic and concept is good!
Controlling all your bots at the same time is a really fun idea and it took me some time until i managed to get through the course. Cool game!
@dundundun I'm getting a hotfix for camera lock. I should have done it sooner, i had work all day D:
@adroitconceptions @dundundun Both builds now have Cursor Lock when you click the mouse in the client! Sorry about that <3
I'm really enjoying this one! I love the art style and amount of polish that has gone into the gameplay and level - incredibly impressive work! Ditto for your game, I'd love to see a post-jam version developed.
Playing with the mouse/keyboard I didn't realize at first that the movement was locked to the camera axis, so found it very hard as I couldn't even pass the first bridge. Once I got that figured out it all went smoothly!
FWIW, playing in Chrome wasn't an issue for me (macOS running the latest Chrome Beta).
When I saw your blog post about the menu I knew I had to check it out when it was finished, and I was not disappointed! :)
@rsim might be a Chrome on windows specific issue then! Thanks for the feedback!
@toast-toaster haha thanks for the followup!
Really fun game! I ended up dying at the very very end which was sad. The middle part is sooo hard! I wanted to save all the bots but couldn't. :(
That was pretty hard! Graphics were great and controls (xbox controller) were smooth. Music and sounds worked well. Overall, great job!
Nice work! This was really hard! Good level design, music and art!
@mtanton im glad to hear you used a controller! It's way better! The PC controls were kinda necessary as most people dont have one, that said they suffered because I focused on controller stuff :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
how do you even do this grafics!!?
@der-finski most of it is baked lighting! I saw a lot of HTML5/WebGL builds not taking advantage of this :spy:
aaaa.png GREAT!
Wow, this is a really fun and creative game! I live the visuals and the level design is excellent. This game mechanic is very creative and unique.
Innovation 5/5. The level design was a bit too rough and unforgiving at the start, but the idea and execution were awesome!
This was a game that I grew to like! It was *really* hard initially when I was getting a hang of the controls. I just couldn't get my guys in line! It would definitely help to have a button that aligns your robots in single file - I feel that a lot of game time is wasted lining them up. Once I got the hang of it, it was pretty fun! The spawning of new robots at certain points was necessary and a good idea. However, I think those places should also be checkpoints. I had the most fun on levels that were more puzzle-based (like the gap one or the moving wall one) but with the levels with the hammers or the action, it was too hard to manage all of my guys, and I couldn't see the obstacles with the perspective that I had at times. The music is repetitive, but the more I played the game, the more it fit with the vibe. I think that this game could use some refining, but great job for 48 hours!
Fun and very nice music. I honestly couldn't get past the first sacrifice part but it is definitely fun. I used the walls to line them up. Good game!
@rektorgladowski congrats!!!
@conrad123 im glad you kept trying! I agree with the checkpoints suggestion. That, or at least better difficulty curves. The hardest level is in the middle (the yellow door w/ the button).
Part of the puzzle is lining them up, but I wouldn't be opposed to having a mechanic, or button in the game world that at least gathers all your bots onto one point.
@blackshadow1games thanks!! i made the music in under an hour in a program ive never used before, so im glad you like it XD
It's kinda hard, but very funny and the art is beautiful!
Very nice! I love the various mechanisms (buttons and the sort)
The camera was really hard to work with, and it made it very frustrating to play. Other than that this was fantastic
Challenging and fun game! I included it in my compilation video series of games from the Ludum Dare, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/7Oqdb7VuCRQ
Good Idea that u can align your cars, and let them cross a narrow bridge is really perfect, nice work!
I liked that some of the sacrificed tanks stay where they died ... this is a challenging kinda platformer puzzle, great entry!
Nice job I had fun =)
Awesome job, loving the mechanics and the incredible amount of work and thought that went into this game.
Nice idea and better execution. Really complete and fun. Congrats!
Hey!! Great idea, i had a good time playing your game. Good job.
Rip robots... I love and also hate the game at the same time it is hard but really good concept. I died just before the end
Nice idea of game but it's a bit hard to drive corectly those robots
At first I wonder why you keep pushing the wall (fuck it?) then I realize you try to line up lol
Congratulations, I can imagine the effort to build this entire map
Really cool and lots of interesting ideas. Thanks for sharing! And lots of interesting level design.
Wonderful 3D models! The theme music was a little short so it got old quite fast but it was nice the first couple of loops 😂. The controls worked quite well and the puzzles were difficult enough but never unfair. I saw some other similar games where you had those walls that let you set up your followers to a certain formation, interesting to see how other people had the same ideas.
Amazing game with cool graphics!)
This is the best compo game that I have come across this Ludum Dare. Fantastic job, graphics look amazing, the game idea is unique and fits the theme like a glove!
Cool game! I enjoyed the gameplay and level design. I think camera and controls could be improved, I felt that camera was oversensitive.
Great entry anyway!
Oh hey! Nice work! I did the Clucked Up chicken wrangling game where you controlled a herd of the same critter as well. It's cool to see other takes on that. I dug this. After I realized the mouse was active and I could use it to help with controls, and also using other surfaces to align my robots, I really got into it. Bravo!
I love the bot design. It's part militaristic and part Wall-E charming. I like how the antennas wiggle, it's a nice touch.
The music is good, if a bit repetitive. A low-key rumbling engine noise would have worked wonders for the atmosphere, especially if it rose and fell in volume with the number of tanks and their speed.
I wish you could have pushed the premise a bit harder. There were only a few situations where I actually felt that I had to sacrifice my mini tanks, in the other cases it was just my lack of skills that led to their demise.
The camera was a little unsteady which made the game a somewhat hard to control. On the other hand, I enjoyed how you constantly set up walls to help align the bots in order to get them across a narrow passage. That was well thought out.
In the end I almost saved one bot, but I didn't manage to time the jumps right so they fell to their mechanical deaths right before the finish line. I think having higher jumps may have helped me here. If you had the time, a larger map with a few more button puzzles and obstacles, paired with checkpoints, would have given the game a bit more playability.
Overall I think it's a good game that could benefit from a little polish. It's worth continuing to work on it.
One concept I liked: * I liked the 3D graphics. I liked the bobbing motion of the 3D robots and I thought it was pretty realistic. The graphics for the hammers and the rotating cylinder were also good. The graphics as a whole, even the programmer art like the red floor in the game, seem pretty good. The programmer art mixed with the realistic styled art made the game feel like an obstacle course, and it felt interesting to play a game like I was going through an obstacle course.
One concept that I did not like: * The camera felt faulty. I could not use the camera to get a top down or a bottom view of my robots. Also, sometimes the mouse cursor would not lock in screen so the rotation of the camera would not work. The way the camera functioned made it very difficult to even have two robots move at the same time, so I had to sacrifice all but one robot. Please make the camera be less of an obstacle than the actual obstacles in the game for the player. The camera's functioning should not make the game significantly harder. It feels unfair for the player and the camera's functioning does not make the game feel too good to play.
I really wanted to like it, but between the weird camera and tank physics I found myself more frustrated than having fun. Most of the time, losing tanks didn't feel like a sacrifice made for the greater good, but just something that happened just because.
@benburgh totally understand the frustrating nature of the camera. The sacrifice theme is a bit different depending on how you interpret it. Thanks for the feedback!
@anonymous Yep, the camera controls are a common fault. If/when I continue working on this that's my highest priority.
@cerno-b in hindsight, a jumping puzzle at the end is too cruel. Lol. Thanks for the feedback. Camera control is the most obvious flaw here and I need to focus on that.
@mrleeperry I saw yours as well! Nice work!
Yeah .... fucking hard ... whoever did that level and game design is sadic hahaha I would maybe improve the camera by "locking and unlocking" it, maybe allow the repositioning/adjustment of the camera only while the right mouse button is pressed and once you release that, the camera stays positioned the way it was left ...
@ivan-garcia-filho i agree, the camera is a common issue in the feedback. The game plays way better with a controller, but thanks for your input!
One of the ones I was looking forward to playing from what I saw during development. Very challenging, but I enjoyed it.
Toys commander (on dreamcast) + toys story + reflexion + neat graphics + interesting gamaplay = a polished entry.
You were alone. Nevertheless you did a work as productive as a team work.
I was trying to save as much robots as i could. And tried again ang again. It is so addictive. Very cool entry to the LD. Thank you so much for this experience.
Very cool entry for compo. Great idea, nice graphics, very good level design, okish audio (I missed some better SFXs but I understand that all of this is hard to do in one person). As other have mentioned, camera handling could be a little bit better, not only controls, but some group composer would be very nice to have all the bots always on the screen or maybe not allowing player to rotate the camera and have some kind of dolly track for the camera. But again these are more like a suggestions in case of any future development and are probably not achieveable in 1 person 48 hours. Overall super good entry!
Wow! I really loved this one. The game is very polished, the puzzles are very well done and fits very well with the theme. Good job!
When I guided the bots over the narrow bridge with pendulum's swinging, I felt focused! If you continue to develop this, when I went into a rotating hexagonal tube, I didn't see that some sections were missing until my last two bots were already passing by the missing section and falling into the next section. I felt unaware how to anticipate the section was missing from the rotating tube.
The models were really cute and the camera work was well done. The biggest problem seems to be trying to control all of the robots at once. Maybe if they moved in a single file line it would work better. I liked the Mario 64 style design of the level. Unfortunately, I got stuck after the ramp jump and couldn't get out.
@wolar Thanks for the feedback. I think a more "directed" camera would help a lot of the problems.
@rodrigo-denubila Thank you!!!
@ethan-kennerly The game could use a mini-map or something to help understand where the bots are. Thanks for the feedback!
@levidsmith The main challenge was in controlling multiple bots at once. Having a button or something that could line them up would help too. Maybe if i continue to develop the game I can introduce powers to control the "swarm" Thanks for the feedback!
