LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

SATIATE! by Secretmapper 2018-12-03T02:52:48Z

The tutorials are usually not what I'm looking at while struggling to progress, and go away by the time I think to check. The need and food numbers were not vary explicit in what they did or how you changed them. The large monster is nice, but I assumed I was controlling them at first, the tiny people do not stand out very well if you aren't looking for them.

Apropos of Apophis by zemmi 2018-12-03T03:32:14Z

Very charming little thing, but given you can only move towards Earth with no variance outside of that small starting area, it ends up as mostly a couple planet jokes back to back and that's all. While the story was about sacrifice, you didn't have the option yo not be sacrificed or to evade the missile or have any real choice, so the theme is a bit weak. The art is very pleasant and agreed that some simple music may have helped fill in some of the empty space.

Of a Feather by scarfdev 2018-12-03T04:12:45Z

@vasco-freitas Sorry to to hear you got stuck, the camera is supposed to follow the majority of the birds, so if 3 out of 6 made it through the camera wouldn't likely move. If you were at the part I think you, then 2 more birds should have been able to make it, as well. Thank you for letting me know, though!

@timeshapers The loss of focus is easily the biggest issue, the rooms are segmented to help make it obvious when you're progressing, but if you leave too many birds behind the camera doesn't choose a good place to focus on, unfortunately. The entire thing is not long enough to be split into its own levels, but there are a few points with some more subtle hints about how many birds you need to progress, especially at the end. Wish i could have had play testing so the camera could have been better, but thanks for your time and response!

Defuse by Andrew Garcia 2018-12-03T04:25:19Z

The graphics and the music are very pleasant, though some of the modules are a bit hard to read (though I guess that's the point) The concept is really really cool, but I just wish you could have chosen which pages to burn and when, so that on repeat plays you could keep the modules you have trouble with. Would have made the sacrifice more personal and tough. A sound effect of some sort when you fail or succeed would have helped too. The mood is very nice, just wish it was a bit more open.

Samurai's Legacy by Simone 2018-12-03T03:06:04Z

The visuals and music are nice, but the character is very floaty, taking a very long time to land, especially during the falling section. Sacrificing yourself takes a very long time as well considering how often it needs to be done. Collisions could be very weird, such as the second stage, the top of the gate was very strange. During the last stage i jumped while walking towards a corpse and jumped much higher, bypassing the last gate. Interesting concept to have the player be the one to kill themselves, unlike similar platformers that rely on spikes or hazards to produce corpses.

TOTEMINI by frescogusto 2018-12-03T07:18:48Z

This game is absolutely lovely. The visuals and sounds of the little man are wonderful and its very smooth. The art style is simple and fun. While the concept isn't anything impressive or the gameplay loop particularly engaging, the length is just right and the general cozy feel made me want to keep going until that perfect ending. The music is peaked by that fun little twist at the end and overall I enjoyed myself.

Lava Luva by mcovert 2018-12-03T04:17:01Z

The screen is only black for me under the menu and red bar. No sounds or anything either. Using an updated windows chrome, if that helps.

Lava Luva by mcovert 2018-12-03T04:28:27Z

@mcovert https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/345362132654620672/519006753032110081/unknown.png the red bar fills up slowly, so I assume this is the game, just nothing underneath the menu appears. No clue how to get the console logs, sorry.

OhBall by ManTou 2018-12-03T05:31:26Z

Very innovative little game, using yourself as a spread of bullets is really creative, and a wonderful second option instead of just becoming big and ramming your opponents. Real neat!

Expendibots by pandan 2018-12-03T03:24:50Z

I am using google chrome and my screen is also just black, the timer is there, the music is playing, the menu works, but there's no visuals or sounds coming from anything.

Goatman by cmsparks 2018-12-03T15:22:09Z

The enemies not moving you away or giving i frames when they damage you makes dying really suddenly from nearly full health a problem. The gun aiming is iffy on keyboard and without starting at the alter it's tough to have any idea where you should bring a goat. The theme is also a bit weak as there's no reason to not sacrifice the goats, it's the objective and makes you stronger. If you had starter with every power and lost them as you sacrificed goats it could have been more interesting, but that would also have been very easy to cheat.

cube mob by mbc 2018-12-03T05:05:31Z

Very neat game, being able to climb up other cubes really felt like a natural sacrifice. The part near the end with the rectangles that slightly fan out got me stuck as my 1 cube got clipped into the end of it as it was falling off and could not wiggle free. Otherwise a challenging and fun game

Shooting Chickens by PxLucasF 2018-12-03T03:15:24Z

There's no real difficulty in just shooting back and forth as fast as you can, as the projectiles will hit the dogs as they spawn, and with only 2 directions to manage its not hard to guess where they're coming from. There's no real feeling of sacrifice anywhere, as firing like mad doesn't have any negatives. Even in terms of the visuals, firing presents at dogs to pacify them seems like more of a good thing than firing chickens at them, so the theme of sacrifice gets less strong as you go. No menu or breather between games is a bit strange, especially if someone had a favorite stage to play the game on, they would have to die on purpose to play on it again. Overall, a bit too simple to have anything substantial come out of playing.

Typeless by Naihto 2018-12-03T04:41:32Z

Wonderful game here. Really enjoy the multiple different options of sacrifice, building up her happiness only to waste it for a letter you should have kept. Sadly with so few letters in the alphabet you gut cornered really fast without a real way out. I ended up with her happiness below 0 and the game sort of locked up, she wouldn't say anything but there was no fail state either, not sure if that's intended but I assume i had lost. The song is short but fun, and the graphics are very cute. Typing out the phrases felt really good especially when you realized you were missing a letter. The dialogue was surprisingly deep and believable, and being put in situations where you say something insensitive due to the lack of letters is really smart.

Wonderfully surprised by your game, best compo game I've seen so far!

Flying Farmer by relixes 2018-12-03T02:57:17Z

Fun little idea, the animals being able to jump off themselves is a bit annoying if you had to give up something just to get them on the platform. It wasn't clear if the enemy would heart the farmer or his balloons. Being able to control the platform more could have added more risk and reward.

Balloon of Death by paulpaul168 2018-12-03T15:15:29Z

The web version doesn't seem to work for me, and since there's no alternative download it's hard to really try it out.
