This is *really* good, and very innovative -- great job! I'm glad that you included the ability to recover previously sacrificed keys (I wouldn't have finished without it), but it might make things a little too easy.

mcovert 2018-12-03 04:00

Really good! An interesting thing to sacrifice!

My date doesn't have much going for her professionally, but at least it's a good hobby for her to have.

scarfdev 2018-12-03 04:41

Wonderful game here. Really enjoy the multiple different options of sacrifice, building up her happiness only to waste it for a letter you should have kept. Sadly with so few letters in the alphabet you gut cornered really fast without a real way out. I ended up with her happiness below 0 and the game sort of locked up, she wouldn't say anything but there was no fail state either, not sure if that's intended but I assume i had lost. The song is short but fun, and the graphics are very cute. Typing out the phrases felt really good especially when you realized you were missing a letter. The dialogue was surprisingly deep and believable, and being put in situations where you say something insensitive due to the lack of letters is really smart.

Wonderfully surprised by your game, best compo game I've seen so far!

theseusinabottle 2018-12-03 04:47

Im sorry I would love to tell you that I think your favorite hobby is dancing but unfortunatly I sacraficed the letter N not realizing just how important it could be so I'm just gonna say you like to Bowl.

This game was really good I enjoy the unique take on sacraficing things. I also really like the unintentional comedy of realising that I just sacrificed an important letter without really thinking about it.

justalocalhero 2018-12-03 05:04

What a great concept! I love the look, all the little animations. It honestly captures the feeling so well of having something to say and somehow not being able. So well done.

matthew-roelle 2018-12-03 06:08

I love the keyboard sacrificing games we've been seeing this jam. Great job! I enjoyed the puzzle element of trying to make it through the game with different dialog choices and different sacrificed letters. You very quickly run out of letters like 'Z' and 'X' to sacrifice! :) Cheers

mcrewind 2018-12-03 06:46

super unique game, large sprites with nice little animations and close together ui makes it feel cozy and fits the game well. The audio is well done and and doesnt get annoying, well done!

naihto 2018-12-03 06:47

@scarfdev I couldn't find the time to put a proper tutorial in. Now it's on the description but you can offer your date's happiness to get some letters back.

And thanks everybody for your comments, it made my day!

yirggzmb 2018-12-03 06:48

Having to sacrifice your letters is brilliant. Also frustrating. My main feedback is that it would be nice to have a button to properly exit the game once done when in full screen mode, instead of having to hit alt-f4.

Also, headsup, if you mark your windows download as such on Itch, people will be able to download it through the Itch game app.

naihto 2018-12-03 06:54

@yirggzmb I totally forgot about fullscreen mode since I had WebGL in my head nearing the end. Also thanks for bringing up the marking advice, I didn't notice it on itch.

imer 2018-12-03 07:03

The joys of having a keyboard with some weirder letters (öäüßµ were all accepted :smirk: )

Pretty fun otherwise though, would've liked a buzzer or something when you tried to type a sacrificed letter, but thats just nitpicking

pukami 2018-12-03 07:11

Loved the concept and the pixel art! Very cute :) I wanted to get further through the date, but it seemed almost impossible to maintain her happiness long enough. But overall, amazing work! Would love to see more!

naihto 2018-12-03 08:37

@imer Thanks for the input, I shall keep that in mind for future possible updates on the game!

@pukami Try to use the offering mechanic of the game if you haven't encountered it. Other than that you have the knowledge of your previous experience to assist you.

binarylynx 2018-12-03 08:49

Holly Molly it is so well made! I mean, it has no flaws, not that I noticed. Very original spin on the theme, loved it!

daniel-abeleira 2018-12-03 09:29

Nice game! I can see the work behind it

wongkongphooey 2018-12-03 10:12

Loved playing this! I laughed out loud when I had to choose "Hard Boiled Eggs" as my amazing chef skills as it was the only one I could type! A really well thought through game and a great take on the theme. Well done!

mantou 2018-12-03 11:18

A Fun game. Girl is so cute!

deathbysnail 2018-12-03 13:23

Nice interpretation, great use of the theme. Found a cool cheat though - alt vowels get accepted! XD typeless.png

kbf123 2018-12-03 14:23

Cool concept, but I kept softlocking when her happiness got below 0. Not sure if this is a bug, or the game's supposed to exit here, but I felt it was worth mentioning.

naihto 2018-12-03 14:27

@kbf123 That is a problem on the WebGL version, you can read more about it on the Extra Notes section.

fat-cat 2018-12-03 20:18

Really cool idea! And there are lots of dialogue options, and the graphics look nice too. And thank you for including a volume slider!

tomcat94 2018-12-03 22:36

This is one of my favorites of the jam so far! The concept of losing letters you can use to respond is a creative way of interpreting the theme. It's weird, but playing it immediately brought back memories of a Yu Yu Hakusho episode where the characters played a game of Taboo where certain words couldn't be said as the game went on. Fun game all around, congrats!

ludovico 2018-12-04 01:34

Really enjoyed this game, clever concept with charming graphics and music. Absolutely phenomenal.

shawn-moore 2018-12-04 05:10

Interesting take on the theme! It definitely got harder as the game progressed because I couldn't respond due to losing too many letters.

It took me a while to figure out how to actually play due to things like tapping space to advance to the next dialog, and starting the game by typing, were both a little unclear.

Very nice graphics!

daruudaruu 2018-12-04 11:28

Very cool concept! I was surprised by the game, was really fun! I know pixelart is probably not your strongest skill, but consider using only one size of pixel unit! That's the only critique I can make though, the game is cool, the concept is great and the interpretation of the theme is superb.

ente 2018-12-05 00:09

Hmmm... The offering mechanism didn't work in my browser (using firefox...)? Or I did it wrong? Also the Umlaute and stuff (ßöäü) didn't work as offerings, and somebody else mentioned they were possible to use? As it was, it was really difficult to get very far. I got to a happy ending though. Is there another ending or is it always, that she will just leave? Nice concept.

naihto 2018-12-05 01:10

@ente I managed to fix the bug OwO. For browser I'm not completely sure since it's my first time pushing to WebGL so all I can really say is to download the file for a better experience.

@daruudaruu I don't know how to draw backgrounds for my life

pudding 2018-12-05 02:58

I love how well the dialogue complements the game's mechanics.

hypersnow 2018-12-05 05:30

Really fun and interesting idea! One of my favorite entries so far. Dialogue was surprisingly down to earth as well.

arcling 2018-12-05 05:36

Quite possibly the best game in Ludum Dare 43

matank 2018-12-26 07:13

The use of the sacrifice theme was very innovative. I had a lot of fun and played through the game a few times. Would be nice if the happy ending felt a bit more happy (since she ends up suddenly leaving).
