Very fun
I like how you managed to make such an interesting strategy game with such simple mechanics. It's not the most elaborate strategy game in the world, but there was certainly enough for me to want to see it through.
The art was another high point. Along with the audio, it was a wonderfully cute experience. I even like the little hoots the slimes make, even if they got a little repetitive by the end.
All that matters is sword power. Their numbers can't defeat you if you can push almost an eight of the island with the placement of one tribesman. Great game, now I feel like a monster for pushing those poor blue guys off the edge like that....almost; Its my turtle, gettoff.
Amazing entry right here! The mechanics are solid, and the graphic is really cool! You guys did a fantastic job! :)
This is the kind of game that demands levels. I quite enjoyed playing this; I especially love the design of the turtle, and the little tribe figures with their permanent >:O expressions. I like the music too, maybe the in-game more than the menu screen, which had a tendency to sound a bit staticy at parts, but it had some good flow and tune to it. The main area track had a very floaty, world feel to it, which was great. The sound effect for placing the tribe members was also cute, and I would have loved to hear maybe some collective sound effects for when the tribe members fall off the island.
I appreciated the game hints, which served as a good guide on how to play without being super intrusive. There were also good indicators with the cursor as well, telling you why you can't place certain tribe members wherever you want. I played until the third "make it harder", of which it seemed the enemy tribe was multiplying super rapidly and I had trouble keeping up. Aside from this, I can't really pinpoint any other major problems I was having, except maybe that sometimes, the tribe members could end up inside the water, which caused them to shake back and forth and sort of pop around the pool. Oh yeah, and it would have been nice to also map the WASD keys as well; I found myself using these by mistake when playing instead of the arrow keys. Or maybe have them configurable for letter key combinations.
The game also had a tendency to lag when lots of tribe members were in place, but it wasn't so bad that it took me out of the playing experience. Overall, I liked what I played and would *love* to see this with a levels system and different coloured turtles, because the way you've designed the "turtle" world is so intriguing.
great game, very innovative and concept is very strong, i think it would be more strategic in a more turn based set up, computer can place there tribesman a lot faster as you would have to navigate, learn the game and think strategy, i feel it is more about clicking as fast as you can then doing strategic and optimal placement. but i really enjoyed playing, a lot of polish went into this, nice music, good graphics. congratulations ! :)
ohjeah, web version got stuck on the loading screen with chrome, but it worked with firefox.
##### First thoughts It's turtles all the way down!
At first I didn't knew if it was a good thing to send your fellow onturtlers straight in to the abyss, but then I became a bloody mass murdering genocidal maniac. And I loved it! :smiling_imp:
Gameplay-wise it might be more reasonable to have a static camera view to show all the turtle-land.
And I also double @robber 's idea of turn based skirmish.
##### Art The turtle is incredible! Loved colors and was really exited by all the tiny details - hills and lakes, rocks and trees.
Tribesmen are way too cute, loved them and felt a little horrible killing them
##### Audio Main theme is gorgeous! It adds so much epicness to the cuteness of the world and that mix creates exceptional atmosphere.
##### Overall Add some more levels and a couple of different tribesmen types and sell this baby all the way up.
It's an A+, guys.
This fits the theme very nicely, the turtle looks great and is a good setting for a little strategy game. The gameplay itself was a cool simplified mechanic too, so I think high scores for theme and innovation.
I agree with others that a turn-based approach would be good, it felt a bit like a 'clicker' game at times, where it was less about the strategic placing of your people and more about how fast you could click.
Genuinely, this is one of the best entries. Period. The art was beautiful and the music was beautiful. The gameplay felt nice, original, and very smooth. Well done!
Love the sound effects and music. Lots of fun to push groups off the turtle. Awesome art style too.
Brilliant! The physics based territory control was incredibly clever! I think you could absolutely make this into an amazing full game. My only real complaint is with the music, I liked the menu music, but the in-game loop got old fast.
Graphically, it's easily one of the best looking games I've played. The overall style worked great, and the level of polish was well above LD standards. Also, did I mention how much I loved the territory control mechanics? Well I do!
Overall, I'd say this is my favorite jam entry thus far :D
Very fun fun fun game!!! 5 stars!
Loved it! 5 stars all around! The art is magnificent (especially the turtle). It fits the theme perfectly. Loved growing my army, taking over the relics and then crush the enemy with a swift attack. Best entry I've played so far!
damn beautiful!!! O.O
