damm. Forgot the potato :(

LD30 — Connected Worlds

WHAT'S NEXT? by jsspiegel 2014-08-28T03:24:00

When I first saw this I was thinking that using the ludum dare to push personal opinions was wrong. But after "playing" it I fell it actually manages to convey your opinions in a non aggressive and more relatable way. Doesn't feel like it's trying to push any opinions or views and actually seems like a fairly noble use of the compo.

The Unfortunate Potato by Longarmx 2014-09-01T20:31:00

I like the take on the theme. The puzzles got real hard real fast(that's a plus for me BTW). Overall it was pretty great.

Quest of Untitled by firstbass 2014-08-28T03:09:00

As stated by others, my big complaint is the unresponsive movement (perhaps a consistent slow speed rather then an occasional fast "hop"). I feel like this could have been pretty nice just given some more time to flesh it out.

Onomo by plash 2014-08-26T04:21:00

I felt like I had to give you a low overall rating even though basically everything was amazing. Just didn't have enough time to finish it, and I really wish you did.

This still wins out top in awesomeness/content ratio. Great job.

Starving Symbiosis by Lasty 2014-08-28T02:39:00

This has to be one of the best entries I've seen so far. Excellent use of the theme, Easy to play, pleasing aesthetics and best of all. Just plain fun to play!

A few details that stood out to me. First, instructions in game. Not needing to switch windows to see how to play was refreshing. Also, frantically trying to aim items at the portal when one of the guys was starving would have been hilarious had I not been on the edge of my seat, well, frantically trying to aim items at the portal when one of the guys was starving!

Thanks for tripling the happiness of my evening :)

Epic Galactic Conquest by madk 2014-08-26T23:45:00

Yeah, I forgot about the last few LD's. Nice to see you still entered and put something out even with only a few hours to spare.

Considering the time you had it's really not bad at all.

Connected Worlds by rjhunter 2014-08-26T04:56:00

This was too buggy to really get into and enjoy.

HUNT by saampahlavan 2014-08-26T03:38:00

Chrome says it's malicious. I've had this issue with my own games before when I upload through dropbox, I've fixed it by moving them around to (or out of) subfolders, but I don't know the exact cause or solution, sorry.

Timehop by Lord bobyness 2014-08-26T03:25:00

Thanks for informing me! It's fixed now.

Timehop by Lord bobyness 2014-08-26T05:30:00

Escape closes it. I guess I did forget to mention that at, well. At any point in time or space really. If you guessed escape and it still didn't close then that's an issue I'll have to look into.

Thanks for letting me know.

Universal Love by sbarrio 2014-08-30T23:08:00

Great themes. Great novelty. Great fun!

Ludum Galaxy 64 by AtomicVikings 2014-08-26T23:39:00

This was great all around. Nothing stood out because everything was so great overall.

Nice job!

The Interplanetary Armada Defense Squad vs. The Neverending Saucer Fleet by alangamebot 2014-08-27T01:01:00

I like it. A creative concept that it still quite intuitive and fun! It was pretty laggy at times, and got real hard, real fast.

Reading the names of each side made me laugh a little :)

Hero of Elements by donfabio 2014-08-26T23:28:00

This was hilarious. From how he constantly brushes his hair(the death sequence is the best) to the guys who charge at you trying to kill you (even though they fail do anything) to the level design (those platforms that launch you to other platforms before sending you into the lava)

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be off to make a friend play this as well.

My First Public Meltdown by Piat 2014-08-26T04:13:00

I can't say I understood much of what was going on. Just felt like there wasn't enough feedback and that left me at a loss most of the time (what increases my stress? Why did I just lose $10? Are the buttons at the bottom to make a new post perhaps or what?)

It feel like there is a good game here, I just don't know enough about whats going on to access it. Might be worth adding a how to play or something in the description. Regardless of if you do I'll give this another shot later :)

Robot Smuggler by DvigubaiPiktas 2014-08-26T04:49:00

This was enjoyable. Felt like the little things in the game got their share of attention(the way that the camera moves when you fire or the timing needed for reloading) it was fun, funny and just overall quite great!

The SwitchBoard by paps 2014-08-28T03:29:00

Hehe, made the mistake of going straight to the highest difficulty.

(didn't end well)

Molyneux God by Capitals 2014-09-06T00:15:00

Pretty interesting. The game mainly just felt lacking in content(and a tutorial. To be fair, I'm rating the compo version)

Can't say I spent hours with this but would love to see a fleshed out version.

Interstellar, Inc. by JavadocMD 2014-08-26T22:59:00

Didn't have any real instructions, but that's ok because this was pretty intuitive anyways. I did have the issue you mentioned where the AI just stopped doing anything mid game. But just building up my empire managed to be fun even without opposition.

WE MUST EXPLORE by goosetickler 2014-08-27T01:15:00

A nice way to pass some time. Just fly through space and see whats there.

I didn't really care for gameplay of building planets , just got too repetitive. So I went back to flying around :)

Course Collision by rRootagea 2014-08-27T00:05:00

This is pretty great. The AI was excellent and the game kept me on the edge of my seat(metaphorically) trying to get that last settler ship through before the next section.

Great job :)

Connected Worlds by calvin99e1 2014-08-24T01:14:00

This needs multiplayer!

Drift by hyouko 2014-08-26T02:12:00

That was actually really enjoyable. Starting with a tutorial that explained the controls but left you to experiment with the physics. The graphics looked nice (especially the water) although they didn't feel very original. As stated, the text really was quite hard to read. But the mechanics felt quite elegant with the physics. It was oddly satisfying to chain up a bunch of rafts and try to charge through the level while bouncing all over the place.

Good job!

SpaceMail by Denisre3 2014-08-26T02:37:00

I can't say I enjoyed it. The mechanics were good, the graphics, well, it's ludum dare. I can't complain about that.
My main issue was the user interface really didn't tell me much about what was going on. I had no idea if I had launched a spaceship without actually checking the planet and seeing if I could select it. Or how close it was to the destination. Basically figuring the game out was a matter of trial and error, but I had little feedback on if I was doing something.

Once I understood it was more enjoyable. I like the take on the theme, keeping worlds connected! as said, the mechanics were good. I just didn't know what was happening when.

Orbital Cargo by Bozwellox 2014-08-29T00:01:00

I also have the chrome says it's malicious issue

Perhaps move it to an alternative (ex. google drive) or just try renaming the file, for some reason renaming fixed mine.

Colonized worlds by Gabe 2014-08-29T02:31:00

Can't say I cared for it that much, I think in in large part because of the issue with asteroids spawning in or near the planet.

The Curious Incident of the Bird and the Fish by mantisda 2014-08-26T04:32:00

Good background story, but I didn't like the game itself, it just felt really random. The fish and bird collide and now i'm a snake thing in hell? I came intrigued by the story(it fit the theme and was elegant in it's own way) but left confused(the interactions ranged from counter intuitive to just strange, take the balloon/jellyfish example from AlbertoSM).

Trade routes by Shivur 2014-08-26T03:00:00

This was fun. It seemed pretty easy(connect as many planets as possible and wait) but I still felt quite powerful setting up trade routes. I've seen other AAA games like this where getting a ship/space ship to go between to locations is quite hard. Here, I could just click and drag and the ship went, and I felt like a god!

Mexican Standoff by ATTA Games 2014-08-26T02:45:00

This is like my dream come true, except that my dream was about bridges and didn't have clint eastwood shooting people. So this is like my dream but way better in every way!

(nice take on the theme by the way)

Smugglers! by rjhelms 2014-08-26T03:11:00

This is what pacman should have been :)

Normally I would have more to say but my only real qualms were the siren sound and the half hour of my life that I will never get back!

Thanks for making my day.

Connected Worlds by ajayajayaj 2014-08-28T02:49:00

Everything about presentation said "I'll be bored in 5 minutes" I just wish that the title and screenshots could convey how great this game actually is.

Find my Sun by stink123456 2014-08-26T03:55:00

The mechanics were good, the graphics were great, but the game felt shoehorned into the theme rather then being more central to the design.

Theme not with standing though this was actually quite fun.

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

War of Ideas by jackyjjc 2015-04-20T02:35:00

Interesting take on the theme indeed! The fact that (as far as I could tell) you cant win made the game feel a bit more real in its own sort of way. It did seem that the abilities were a bit unbalanced. A revolution would quickly lose more followers then it gained for example.

Overall I like it. Simple to interact with but still engaging.

The Wand of FloatingSoaps by aroymart 2015-04-20T03:33:00

Pleasant to play. Pleasant to see. Pleasant to listen to.
Just a simple pleasant game :)

Can You Reach the Sun? by Garris 2015-04-20T04:14:00

This has to be one the best looking games I've ever seen in ludum dare! I'ts not that it's complicated but it is really quite pleasant! The music loop was short but complimented the game very nicely.

GIant RevelatIon EnergIzed KIng Karma EpsIlon by doitle 2015-04-22T03:25:00

Aww, If only this game was finished I could fulfill my childhood dream of murdering giant Swedish fish by whacking them with the EARTH ITSELF!

Transposition by Robotic-Brain 2015-04-20T03:39:00

Well it was buggy, confusing and (as you mentioned) short. But ignore that because you LEARNED HOW TO USE A NEW GAME ENGINE IN LESS THAN 48 HOURS! Congrats man.

Mighty Magnetic Force by pvwradtke 2015-04-20T23:54:00

That was brilliant. There are a lot of "magnet weapon" entries but this one stood out. I think it just the hundreds of small design decisions. From the level design to the way boxes are launched rather then pushed.
And a hundred other small things I cant put a finger on, but that must be there because the game was just that fun!

Anyways, I think this entry deserves to win.

Mighty Magnetic Force by pvwradtke 2015-04-21T00:02:00

Also, controller support :)

Forest Hecate by Jordan 2015-04-21T02:52:00

Well, It really does need better instructions. First time I played it I was very confused (I ran out of aconite then died) I gave it another try after reading the readme that told me I could use WSAD to move(Although I really don't know why that didn't occur to me earlier)

It was enjoyable once I got it. I'm going to come back to this one tomorrow when I'm not tired and try it again.

Bar Fight by nihilaleph 2015-04-20T04:03:00

What every western should have been. An hour of guys throwing pianos and shoes at each other while drunk(plus up to, but no more than, five minutes of plot)

Welcome to Ludum Dare!

Magnets & Lasers by Dustician 2015-04-20T04:33:00

Well. I hate you, but not in a bad way. More of a you made me lose half an hour playing your extremely hard game kind of way :P

Seriously though. That was fun!

Don't feed the Parasprites! (Incomplete) by Colt Zero 2015-04-21T03:16:00

Well, I do like the concept and am sad to see it was never completed.

Something I usually do is make and package a mini project with my engine of choice before the actual compo starts so that I know the technical stuff is working(I thought my pathfinding bugs were hard but you ported an entire engine to a new language in the jam time limit so... wow!)

Anyways, try not to be too discouraged. And I hope to see you in a future LD.

e=i formulae by paruthidotexe 2015-04-21T03:37:00

Aesthetically, This game looks amazing! The menu looks like it was made by an experienced team for a full game. In game the graphics weren't quite as completed but still had the same quality!
Really. You just needed more time for the mechanics I suppose.

LD38 — A Small World

Calor by stevenjmiller 2017-05-11T18:31:35Z

My big problem with this game was trying to understand it (the tutorial wasn't fantastic, but it was better than nothing). Once I did though, I thought it was, except for the combat (see below), quite enjoyable.

I got really stuck trying to understand combat, even after replaying the tutorial a few times. The length limit of the line seemed arbitrary and would change depending on factors that I didn't understand. So I just kept trying until the game let me draw the line I wanted...

So despite the fun I was having outside of combat, I eventually got frustrated and gave up (sorry, I really did try).

Sex is Nature by chauchau 2017-05-15T19:18:32Z

Strange... But that seemed to be the point. If there was deeper meaning then I have to apologize as I missed it. If not then well, I do actually love seeing odd and unusual experiences like this, the kind of thing that just doesn't get made outside of game jams! Whatever criticisms I might have had for this game are nullified by the fact that it's your own expression, a surreal artwork that the rest of us might not fully understand, but that is unique and special in a way that most games aren't.

What's sub? by Satyre 2017-05-15T18:16:40Z

Sorry, but I can't find the jam version... Is one available?

ANTIVIRUS by KappaIX 2017-05-15T20:03:46Z

A classic genre, distilled down it's best parts, then converted into a unique aesthetic style and polished up to a sparkle. This is one of my favorite entries!

I was unfortunately, unable to complete it though, as it's just too hard and sends the player too far back. I'm sorry, I promise I tried.

Aircraft Carrier Simulator by superchihuahua 2017-05-16T01:28:12Z

Well, the gameplay isn't all that deep (as others have said), and the plane movement was pretty buggy (again, as others have said). But I must say I was rather amused by the message when I sent a plane into the water :P

And honestly, for a compo entry it looks really nice graphically!

This Is Not Enough Planet! by madjackmcmad 2017-05-15T01:52:29Z

Love it! It was just really satisfying to play in a rather simple way. Watching the planet grow was really neat, although I had some rather severe performance issues after a while, so it might have grown a bit too much :P

I also thought it was a unique and clever use of the theme, and bonus points for using the theme mechanically, as well as aesthetically!

Power Department by Cameron Seebach 2017-05-11T20:57:03Z

The opening was certainly impressive! I was a bit lost as to what to do in the game though, as there wasn't much feedback as to how your decisions affect revenue/happiness.

Save A Small World by chaotikza 2017-05-15T19:02:34Z

This game feels really shoehorned into the theme. Making a match 3 game is fine, but it feels like you just took the basic formula and re-skined it. This should be a chance to do something new and unique with the genre by using the theme to rethink and reimagine that basic formula into something new!

P.S. I don't mean to be unduly harsh, it's a fun game, but I think there's a missed opportunity to make it a unique and special game as well. You don't need to use the theme, but use it as inspiration, or just ignore it entirely and make your own game the way you want to make it ;)

Critter by Skruffye 2017-05-14T18:16:17Z

So first off, this game is incredibly beautiful! I don't know where to begin. The music, the little particles of leaves and water, the polish on the sprites. It all comes together amazingly well!

As for the gameplay, although it was quite rewarding to discover new biomes, there were so few ways to arrange the water/lava that I could brute force my way through them without much thought. But again, it was just so frickin gorgeous I didn't care :D

Small World God by Pecolyte 2017-05-12T18:17:06Z

I love games like this! I've played some of these "God Puzzle" games before, and I like all of them, but I love the sim-earth feel of seeing it play out on a map. I say we need more games like this :)

I do have one pretty major complaint though, needing to keep replacing light. Half the time was spent trying to figure out the next stage (the fun part), but the other half of the time was just click-spamming light. Should you make a post-compo version, I think fixing that detail would go a long way.

Island Boom (but it's cats so it's okay) by adrian0901 2017-05-13T00:06:13Z

I'm a big fan of the worms games, and since this is basically worms with cats, it's no surprise that I loved this entry. I couldn't tell what all the weapons were supposed to be, but did like the variance in their behaviors. As has been pointed out, the AI was crap, but it was fun in multiplayer, so that's quite alright :)

Being able to move makes everywhere makes it too easy (I could win on the first turn). So I restricted my own movement to only jumping, then got to see the rather fun and amusing artillery game that is IB-BICSIO!

Spider Royale by superjai 2017-05-15T19:53:25Z

Qwop meets Smash Bros. How can anyone say that's not like, the best thing.

X-Pressed Delivery by GabrielBucsan 2017-05-16T01:42:09Z

First off, thanks for letting the player select their gender/romantic orientation. It's a small touch, but too many developers making similarly themed games will make assumptions in that regard.

Because the game involved watching the minimap so closely, I would have preferred if it was a bit larger (I played this on a small screen). My other complaint is that there was kinda a cynical undertone. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I personally found it off-putting.

I did like the art style. The people were easy enough to make out in the crowd, and the city was vibrant and colorful. I can't say I personally found the gameplay itself to be the greatest thing, but I think that was more a matter of tastes than any problem with the game.

So yeah, I think it's a good game that just didn't resonate with me personally, so try not to take my feedback too seriously ;)

Wereld by givit-game-studios 2017-05-11T19:47:06Z

That was pretty fun. The UI needs some improvement (the harvesters should auto-harvest, the build-bar shouldn't disappear when you build something, etc...). But otherwise it was a satisfying little action RTS :)

By the way, aesthetically this game was amazing. I loved the laser effects, and the music was well above the LD standard!

A Sassy Platformer by DragonZlay 2017-05-12T23:15:21Z

Hahaha, that walking animation deserves a medal :D

Cellular Defense by Evannex 2017-05-11T19:59:55Z

I'd say the levels were a tad too long, once I was doing well enough, it just became a matter of waiting. Otherwise I loved it! The music was a really nice change of pace from the normal electronica I usually hear in LD games.

Sand Runner by Voivy 2017-05-15T18:12:55Z

In response to your last comment, no one can tell you the exact values to use, you just have to experiment ;) Also, look at what other platformers do and consider stealing a little from them. Sometimes the player moves upwards very quickly after jumping, but falls much more slowly. Sometimes (almost always) there is a limit to how fast the player can fall. There is a whole lot to dive into if you want, and I'd recommend going with what you feel is best, rather than what some random person (like me) says you should do.

That all said, I for one thought it played very nicely, and am just trying to give you ideas should you decide to develop it further. The only real problem I ran into was that sometimes it's impossible not to die at the start (consider adding a "safe platform" so the player doesn't spawn next to an obstacle).

And of course, congratulations on your first LD entry!

Murder by TheGameGoyal 2017-05-15T18:36:22Z

Doesn't really relate to the theme in any way I can discern, although I don't think it's a huge deal. You made a game you wanted to make, which is what this event is about.

I enjoyed the game regardless, and the pixel art was really sweet! And of course, congratulations on your first entry :D

P.S. I saw an earlier comment saying there wasn't any music. If you added it in after the deadline, please keep the original version and make it clear which version that is so that people can rate it fairly.

Rocket World by TheWGBbroz 2017-05-12T17:43:09Z

That was fun! You could absolutely make a great side-scrolling shooter around this concept!

Not much more to say about it, sorry :P

Ant Domination by Wakobu 2017-05-12T17:51:44Z

Twas a fun little physics sandbox, if perhaps not the deepest game. I eventually stopped seeing any more stuff to destroy though. Did I win or was that a bug?

Tribes of the Turtleland by ArtKurkowski 2017-05-15T02:15:56Z

Brilliant! The physics based territory control was incredibly clever! I think you could absolutely make this into an amazing full game. My only real complaint is with the music, I liked the menu music, but the in-game loop got old fast.

Graphically, it's easily one of the best looking games I've played. The overall style worked great, and the level of polish was well above LD standards. Also, did I mention how much I loved the territory control mechanics? Well I do!

Overall, I'd say this is my favorite jam entry thus far :D

Of Course I Remember You! by GaiusJulius 2017-05-12T23:25:37Z

This game just made my day, thank you good sir/madam for being brilliant. The talking sounds are hilarious and the situations the game generates even more so :P

Quarky Space Explorer by Bamboy 2017-05-12T17:26:48Z

Aesthetically, this game was really charming (I especially liked the music). I love this kind of innocent writing, and it's really nice to see more of it. Also, flying between the planets was really cool!

The big problem was that the movement was just too buggy, unless you fly everywhere (which comes with the risk of flying off into space). The other problem was that I had to spam the interact button until I was in the right spot, which caused me to accidentally skip some of the dialogue :(

Run the World! by Monty 2017-05-15T19:39:08Z

This is a really nice little game about what's important to you (sorry if I'm being too presumptuous), and that's really awesome to see :)

Also, even if it was kinda buggy, it's cool to see a retro style aesthetic. I don't mean in the pixel art kind of way, I mean in the it has the genuine feel of an old arcade game kind of way.

The Glass Marble Tour by icecheetah 2017-05-12T23:34:21Z

That was weird but... really adorable and sweet :D

Congratulations on making your first game by the way!

5-Minute Civilization by Stevie Bushman 2017-05-16T01:11:42Z

Dear Firaxis, you have much to learn.

I only have on problem with this game, I do not believe that Ghandi would allow the world such a quick painless death.

Insufficient Data by lord-bobyness 2017-05-16T15:49:51Z

@sgadrat Hmm, might be a bug in the linux version? That's really weird... Thanks for trying anyways.

Small World Clicker by xatulu 2017-05-15T19:29:15Z

Who am I? Why am I cloning myself? Why am I running a sacrificial cult to make more clones faster? These are questions best left to philosophers, which I am not, and neither are my clones, none of whom lived more than 5 minutes. Maybe if I clone faster I'll find answers and... Yep, just as had been theorized, I am in fact a genocidal maniac :P

Battle Bugs by flyingbear 2017-05-15T18:47:49Z

I love this kind of game, and despite being LD, this one absolutely holds up regardless!

It was challenging, but whenever I lost, I felt like if I just played a little better I could have survived, and every time I got back to that point I managed to overcome the challenge, which was a great feeling!

Normally I delete LD games once I've finished them, but this one is staying in my collection :)

That Tiny Pea by Thendash 2017-05-03T19:14:14Z

That was a fun little reminder as to why the actual spacecraft had instruments :P

Being able to walk around after landing was a nice touch, helps give a sense of scale!

TimeWars by Chupachu 2017-05-11T17:53:58Z

I liked the presentation (The chiptune anthems were really neat). Also, +100 awesome points for putting instructions in-game :). I can't say I cared for the game overall though (sorry). Everything happened too fast I think, so it felt more like a gladiator arena than a grand conquest.
