Nice game but I'm a little confused how to control the entire army.

Nice game but I'm a little confused how to control the entire army.
Really fantastic atmosphere/music/environment. The intro was black for a long time for me before starting, not sure if that's a bug. It's pretty amusing to set up large armies and have them go wipe each other out. I doubt this was how it was meant to be played but it's pretty neat :)
(Edit: Played this on stream, https://www.twitch.tv/videos/139750250 - Time 2:10:30)
Nice! I definitely prefer those with guns than with swords :) Spartans kick ass
Very good concept, and I love the music for each country, but controlling the whole army instead of one useless guy would have been much better. The file "controls.txt" seems to be not up-to-date. It is possible to start a game with no fighters and I don't think it's normal (a warning message like : "Please add some fighters" would be appreciated). A button which randomizes for each country its number of warriors could be interesting.
@yoanndeplo Thanks for the feedback, I was aware that you could start the game without having any opposition but I didn't see it as a problem with gameplay. I do agree that controlling the entire army would have better gameplay, but I was going for more of a battle sim than a total war kind of game. I also haven't updated the controls since I made the cutscene at the beginning. The randomize country button is a really neat idea and I think it would be neat to mess around with, good idea. Thanks again for playing my game. :D
I liked the presentation (The chiptune anthems were really neat). Also, +100 awesome points for putting instructions in-game :). I can't say I cared for the game overall though (sorry). Everything happened too fast I think, so it felt more like a gladiator arena than a grand conquest.
This is really fantastic. The map and countries is neat.

The simulator is indeed amusing and the music is very nice!
Personally, I felt that my contribution to the outcome was quite minimal. I'd have liked my actions during the game to have a more significant effect.
Thanks for all the positive comments and suggestions! If you guys wanna mess around with a twitch integration of the game, go here and type !commands: https://www.twitch.tv/chupachugames
I played this on Livestream Today at the request of the Developer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zCqO_O0iIo
A Great take on the Battle Simulator Genre. We spoke extensively through the stream, but my thoughts boiled down to wanting to see the environment have more effect on what's going on, and seeing more toggles and AI Decisions being made. Great job! I look forward to seeing more!
Good job! The theme music for each faction was a very nice touch. I can't think of much feedback to give, as I am inexperienced with these kinds of games. However, something that would help this game would be a precise method for choosing how many units to spawn (right now the slider is a little imprecise).
Very fun to max out the sliders and watch the world burn! >:D
@doc-ill You know, I was planning on adding a number for the amount of units, but I guess it slipped my mind at some point. Thanks for reminding me, I'll be sure to add that to the post-LD version.
Cool battlesim - I was expecting the areas on the map to do things, but the guys just used it as their playground. ;) Missing a goal in the game is a pity tho. Adding one or two simple challenges might give some gameplay like:
The Visigoth Invasion: Rome is at 100%, you can spread 100% among any nr of other countries. Goal: make sure Rome dies.
Very neat idea, would be cool to add some sort of challenge system to the game. Thanks for the suggestion! :D
Cool starting point for a game. I'd like the player to have more impact on the outcome, as it is right now the player is merely a camera and feels more like betting than actually playing. But I understand there's a lot of work here in AI, and it works great! Good job, keep it up!
Hey, really enjoyed watching cubes attack each other and the different AI characteristics that you gave each army. I always like seeing the impact that subtle differences in AI can have.
I wish that the rest of your army would follow the one unit that you could control. I think it would lead to some interesting situations where you lead armies on a chase and then can force two enemy armies into close proximity. Beyond that, I think letting things like rivers and channels interfere with troop movements would be interesting to see as well (although that would take a lot of time to map out).
Good luck on the post-LD development!
I really liked these amazing songs in the background.Good Job!! Please rate my game so i get a score here:https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/monster-island
That was... interesting. I'm relatively unfamiliar with the "Battle simulator" genre... was kind of fun to watch my army get destroy/wipe things out, but feel like I did not have any interesting choices to make, and the actual combat play felt very weak. The way the music worked was great and clever =).
