I liked the game although there is a mess up in the code or maybe you wanted it that way, it was the cursor you should right cursor.visiible and set that to false so we cant see it and also cursor. lockstate to locked so we can look all around

kromeboy 2018-04-23 00:07

@laptor thank you! you are a lifesaver :-) Just uploaded a patched version

laptor 2018-04-23 00:44

no problem

svenfrankson 2018-04-23 11:16

Interesting concept, nice job !

jf1989 2018-04-23 11:19

This is a nice little concept - I don't really know how it fits the theme, though :-P

kromeboy 2018-04-23 12:28

@jf1989 thanks for playing. The two incompatible generes are "battle royale" and "walking simulator" :-)

oscartrevejo 2018-04-23 23:58

Nice work lads! We also did a very original too, ye mid check it out?

I loved that short story the long walk - I remember where I read it and everything, it's something that stuck with me a long time. I was really excited to play this and I wasn't disappointed, it reminded me of the book for the most part except I didn't exactly envision the people this way ;) Nice job!

gdort 2018-04-24 00:09

I actually read that book! Nicely done!

fitz13 2018-04-24 03:13

That was pretty haunting. I'm definitely picking up the book next chance I get.

It's difficult to rate because as a "game" there's not much going on, but it was a hell of an interactive experience.

Well done!

shelvid 2018-04-24 03:17

This is oddly great.. pretty unique! well done

kromeboy 2018-04-24 03:22

@fitz13 thank you! The "not game" part is the characteristic of a "walking simulator" game. The intention was to make a small "dear ester" mixed with elements of a battle royale game, with a little help from the players to write the story. Actually, it is the second "non game" that I submit in a row. I hope to break this streak the next time :-)

ekkoekko 2018-04-24 04:57

its a Unique Game cool!

saoi-games 2018-04-24 09:08

I’m not sure if you were able to see it, but I played your game on my stream at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames tonight.

The tone was very serious, and I felt that if you put in names of real gun victims this little game could be a conversation starter about gun violence. I'm not sure why you selected the theme you did, but it felt like it had deep meaning. I didn't feel comfortable slowly marching forward as others collapsed around me and gun shots echoed in my ears.

You did a great job setting the mood, and making a simple but effective game.

lost-dutchman-software 2018-04-24 15:39

@saoi-games I agree, putting in real info from victims of gun violence (then wiring up some kind of donate feature to an appropriate charity) would probably get this game a LOT of press and make people confront their own opinions/beliefs, this game would be capital A art.

kromeboy 2018-04-25 00:39

@saoi-games thank you for the stream: I have watched the vod and I have to say that your candid reaction was quite perfect :-) One of my goals was to see what it would take for an interactive experience to generate empathy instead of normalizing violence: my idea was to have anonym character on screen, and knowing the name, hometown, and a short fact upon his death. Then the player could contribute by adding a history by compiling the form at the beginning of the game (now this feature works in the web version too).

I don't know about using real kids names: in the end is still just an experiment and a tribute to a great (and disturbing) book that is a metaphor for the futility of the war; but the user-generated part could twist it in any direction

tomeks 2018-04-25 03:53

Cool concept, very terrifying, the dead animation is a bit late comparing to the shot sound. Nice animation effort. The night is very moody.

mrwillowb 2018-04-25 05:24

Interesting idea it was fun

iluvatar 2018-04-25 07:02

Well... that was kinda terrifying. Even though I had been only pressing W, I was so thrilled what was about to happen. The sounds and athmosphere were real enough for me! Well done, my friend. You managed to make "no effort" gameplay mechanics into a thrilling game as a whole.

unless-games 2018-04-25 07:32

Interesting! I feel like the texts should be somewhere on the central vertical axis, or in space beneath fallen bodies :p. Since they are central part of the experience, not just some stats you keep on the sides, in case you need to look at them. It would be nice if you could get shot even if you walk constantly (that's a weird thing to wish for).

About the user generated part, nice direction for content, though it tends to lean towards humour way more often than not, almost unrelated to the context. But it helps in case of this game cause it works well with the theme. I wonder if there's any effective way to make players be serious while playing a game x).

kromeboy 2018-04-25 12:10

@unless-games thank you: the text on the left side was to be a part of a more complex UI inspired by PUBG and N1Z1, but in the end it was kind of too busy, so I dialled back to the simple big text.

On the UGC part yes, it tends to be the humorous side, but I retain creative control: also because the system is not automatic but is a combination of a Google Form of which results I manually copy on my server :-)

t8kk 2018-04-26 12:41

Oh definitely gripping atmosphere first I started off with the characters getting shot before me. I struggled to find the challenge what I was doing to compete against others but the social aspect of seeing other users characters was super nice add to the experience! Overall very fascinating idea and good atmosphere.

weston-walker 2018-04-26 15:54

Hey I love this book! Good work with the game. The suspense was there. Graphics and lighting were great as well.

rewzu 2018-04-26 18:01

Mood and sounds are great but it gets boring quite fast. It's nice that you implemented animated humans and day/night cycle.

king-kujito 2018-04-27 17:35

Very funny social experience, though the gameplay got boring quickly.

robber 2018-04-29 11:57

nice animations, well done for a first 3d game..!

lost-dutchman-software 2018-05-10 23:25

Hey! I wrote a silly review for your game here if you'd like to take a look! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/modern-fairway-4-spec-ops-in-the-rough/$96464

talonos 2018-05-11 01:00

This was a nice experience. Like others said it maybe wasn't your typical "game", but the mood was spot on! When the first few people started getting shot you definitely felt the rush and couldn't help but wonder "am I next?". I like a lot of Stephen King's books so I'm going to have to add this to my reading list. The user generated content was an awesome addition and got a few laughs from me. Great work!

patvanmackelberg 2018-05-11 01:52

That was cool! I like how you used all the submitted info. I apologize for mine in advance :)
