I didn't understand the use of red blocks. Otherwise awesome and addicting game.

Cool idea and a good interpretation of the theme! However, I had a lot of mouse-drag issues when playing it - the game would sometimes just not recognize my mouse inputs, which made moving the blocks around into a chore.

ehh this is easy

*2 mins later* oh my godddd i messed up

its really fun and addicting

Wow! This is a really clever puzzle game. At first I thought it would be easy, but once I realized that you can't move shapes past each other, it got much more interesting. My only gripe is that the UI/what everything does took a little to understand.

Ok, this was cool! Good use of theme, innovative even, the running out of space doesn't seem like "The" point, but is rather a consequence of playing. You get literally limited by space in terms of tools usage, nice stuff. One thing though, is there a way to win? I managed to remove all the blocks, got rid of all green and all blues and was left with only red and nothing to do with them. Near the end I discovered transmutation and got blue blocks to fill in an extra upgrade, but ended up 1 short! (I'll admit I thought it was by design, and the way to clear the game!)

Regardless, the fact that I even got that far in is testament to the game. Quite fun.

@joh: we ran out of time and never added a victory screen, so you'll have to imagine that you've won :) For me, the goal of the game is to drain the pipe, but coffeecup-winner insists that you need to remove all the blocks, too (he's a little further than me on the OCD spectrum).

@CandleBird: you're lucky there was a tutorial at all! (Just kidding, you're right that the UI is obscure. That's what happens when you commit the intro sequence half an hour before the deadline and barely make it at all).

Haha, my evil plan / game design worked!

@Team-Trout: did the mouse cursor change its icon when you couldn't drag? Are you using Chrome? If so, my guess is that you're running into https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/noahs-help-1/fix-for-mouse-drag-issue-in-unity-webgl-build

Good use of the theme! Dragging the blocks around and slicing them is pretty fun. I managed to clear both the pipe and board, after a few attempts. You should make it a little clearer how the different colored blocks behave.

Just out of curiosity, does anything happen if you fill the upgrade meter after buying all the upgrades?

coffeecup-winner 2018-08-16 05:36

@mao, thanks! We did want to make it clearer, but really ran out of time. Next time I hope we'll think about user experience features earlier in the process :)

And nope - nothing really happens, we should have disabled the upgrade bar after the last upgrade.

coffeecup-winner 2018-08-16 05:39

@coal-creek-game-devs, red blocks are where the challenge lies, it's hard to say what they are "for" - cutting them is a purpose in itself :)

matank 2018-08-17 06:52

super awesome game! One of the games I enjoyed most so far. I removed all the blocks :)

martintristan 2018-08-17 09:23

pretty cool game! i like the cutting mechanic! although my finger started cramping due to too much dragging. it would be easier if you could just click the blocks to select and unselect. but good and interesting take on the theme.

ijzm 2018-08-18 07:31

Pretty nice and fun game. It took me a minute to understand how everything worked and how the red stuff was bad. But after a bit everything clicked. Graphics are simple and neat. The mechanics were pretty good, except the dragging, which felt a bit off. Overall it was pretty good, but I was sad that there was a limited number of blocks, and nothing happened after I cleared everything (Maybe I should have focused of filling the green bar instead of focusing on upgrades first?)

Good job!

coffeecup-winner 2018-08-19 09:08

@matank, great job! We're pleased that you liked it :)

@martintristan, thanks! We actually started with just a cutting mechanic since we thought it would be fun to "physically" cut blocks, and then built the rest of the game on top of that. Good point about dragging - I playtested the game on the touchpad a couple of times before the final submission, so I definitely feel your pain :D

@ijzm, thanks :) Yeah, we have a mental note to work on UX earlier in the process next time, but on the other hand it's also nice that the mechanics are still discoverable and people figure out what to do to win despite the limited information. We didn't manage to implement dragging that was both smooth and grid-snapping in the time that we had, but hopefully it was good enough (we think it is :P). Victory screen was not implemented either, so cutting/disposing of all blocks == winning the game. As for limiting the number of blocks - it's an interesting question since theoretically we could go infinite blocks/score points for cutting way, but it would have been so much more difficult to balance (especially if the block sequence was random and not fixed - we tried that at first and it didn't feel right).

Nice submmission, you can do this better. I tried to play tetris with red block on right, before unlocking the transmission =)

quadtree 2018-08-26 07:08

Really nice one! Very good use of the theme, and an all around fun game. It did take me a bit to figure out what the different types did (and that it was bad to run out of green ones, heh).
