LD42 — Running out of space

Castle Custodian by ectucker1 2018-08-16T03:07:24Z

Great game, the first one in this LD I was gripped by and completed (10 HP left :) Like the audio and visuals too. I only think it would have been better if it was known where an enemy would next spawn, even if only for a moment, since without it I had them spawn right next to me not giving me any time to avoid their next projectile.

Dark Lord Ludum Dare by MartinTristan 2018-08-17T06:04:48Z

Great puzzle game, loved the tutorial/introduction sequence. Overall very well made!

Ant Factory by Pavel Smejkal 2018-08-19T08:52:00Z

An awesome game - great job creating the mechanics and having the crafting tree balanced all in 72h. Had to retry the last level a couple of times, but finishing it was so rewarding :) (nitpick: wish there was a "restart" button in the menu if you haven't failed yet - sometimes you just see that it won't work). I also really liked the money mechanic, it added more depth (especially to the last level). Overall your game is definitely one of the best (and most thought through) submissions I've seen.

Also thanks a lot for making a linux version available, I had to pass on many games because of no HTML5/linux support (which is also weird since many people used Unity anyway - why not export to more platforms and/or web).

Slay the Spacetris by Shinta 2018-08-16T05:36:55Z

@mao, thanks! We did want to make it clearer, but really ran out of time. Next time I hope we'll think about user experience features earlier in the process :)

And nope - nothing really happens, we should have disabled the upgrade bar after the last upgrade.

@coal-creek-game-devs, red blocks are where the challenge lies, it's hard to say what they are "for" - cutting them is a purpose in itself :)

Slay the Spacetris by Shinta 2018-08-19T09:08:19Z

@matank, great job! We're pleased that you liked it :)

@martintristan, thanks! We actually started with just a cutting mechanic since we thought it would be fun to "physically" cut blocks, and then built the rest of the game on top of that. Good point about dragging - I playtested the game on the touchpad a couple of times before the final submission, so I definitely feel your pain :D

@ijzm, thanks :) Yeah, we have a mental note to work on UX earlier in the process next time, but on the other hand it's also nice that the mechanics are still discoverable and people figure out what to do to win despite the limited information. We didn't manage to implement dragging that was both smooth and grid-snapping in the time that we had, but hopefully it was good enough (we think it is :P). Victory screen was not implemented either, so cutting/disposing of all blocks == winning the game. As for limiting the number of blocks - it's an interesting question since theoretically we could go infinite blocks/score points for cutting way, but it would have been so much more difficult to balance (especially if the block sequence was random and not fixed - we tried that at first and it didn't feel right).

House of Dog by Pizzasgood 2018-08-17T06:20:18Z

Fun idea and setting! The gameplay was not very intuitive at first, but I figured it out after a couple of retries and built a nice spacious hotel/dog exploitation center. Great job!

Summer's Lease by WrenPirate 2018-08-17T05:53:47Z

Honestly didn't expect the writing to be this engrossing. Personally I've only found the mention of theme a little too frequent (would've been fine with just the backpack as the only reference, really, or maybe that and couple other ones), but it did not lower my opinion of the game. So far the most fleshed out (and interesting) LD42 project I've seen, great job!

LD44 — Your life is currency

Mutant Alien Zombie Hunter by coffeecup.winner 2019-05-18T03:44:15Z

Thanks all for playing our game! I apologize for not responding earlier, I left for a long vacation right after submitting the game.

@qzqxq - Yeah, we didn't have enough time to tune the health cost and the upgrades, most of which are really OP, but we felt like it was fine for a jam game, just to let people have fun with them :) When tuning the game, we wanted people to complete it after buying an upgrade or two, so dying at least once is expected and by design :) All issues you've mentioned I absolutely agree on - thanks a lot for the feedback!

@kuro - Thanks for playing! :) I agree that the game does lack polish - we didn't have enough time as most of it was consumed by implementing all of the upgrades and making sure they fit well together. I also agree about the pointlessness - initially we wanted the end to have more meaning, but again failed due to time constraints.

Both of you mentioned levels - good idea :) A game called Amorphous was our primary source of inspiration, but it's a single-level game so we mostly copied that approach. I can definitely agree however that if the system was reworked to have a levels progression, it could have been really fun.

LD45 — Start with nothing

Magic Shepherd by Kevin Prehn 2019-10-11T06:20:38Z

Same as for other commenters, controls were the hardest for me. I know FP well, but it was rather difficult to map each solution I had in my head into the game. Despite that, I think this is a great attempt and has a worthy goal - you have my respect!

Zen Fish by Alchemic 2019-10-12T06:36:33Z

Cool game, reminded me a lot about playing Insaniquarium day and night as a child :) Good job!

Calibal's Curse by neonlare 2019-10-12T06:28:12Z

Awesome game! I really enjoyed the music, the NES feel and the fights. Hard to believe it was made for a game jam - so polished! Great job!

Ammodillo by Jeremy Ryan 2019-10-08T05:56:20Z

Very beautiful and compact game, solid mechanics - a pure joy to play. Great job!

SpaceCrafter by ProdigalSon 2019-10-09T04:08:39Z

The puzzle design is great and the game in general feels very solid. I only wished the walking speed was a bit faster :)

Tiny Reactor by coffeecup.winner 2019-10-09T01:44:32Z

@sarah Thanks! We wanted to have a bit more info about how things work inside the game, but didn't have the time - were too busy fixing bugs and validating that everything works as expected :)

@tohubohu Thank you :) The fourth one is where (we think) the difficulty ramps up quite a bit.

Tiny Reactor by coffeecup.winner 2019-10-10T06:28:58Z

@d5r thanks! After your message I started to instinctively try erasing with RMB as well  This change is definitely going in as soon as I get some more free time.

@nisovin yeah, I wish we had time to implement proper editing (copy/paste, undo/redo, etc.) This was definitely on the list of things we were sad to let go due to time constraints. Thanks!

@neonlare thank you :) Some of the stuttering might be due to how we implemented animations - it was supposed to be step by step (and it is), so you can see easier what happens when, but then in the fastest mode it doesn't look very pleasant. We've added a smooth animation option to help with that (upper right corner), but now I think we should have just made step-by-step the default for speeds 1 and 2 and smooth for speed 3.

@alchemic interesting! I felt like I need to add this item to the game to make the setups look less static, and then, when it was implemented I accidentally stumbled upon a good initial setup for late levels/goals using this item so it got into the game. I've seen @kajko solve the same levels in a different way and I'm delighted to learn that you didn't use it at all! We really like free-form puzzle games and wanted to make this one feel the same way :)

Tiny Reactor by coffeecup.winner 2019-10-13T04:20:55Z

@prodigalson I agree on the instructions for new players. We tried to make the mechanics discoverable, but due to time constraints it still feels like some parts are definitely more cryptic to a new player than we would have liked.

@faiorb I actually did think about an "erase all" button, but then thought that manual erasing is not _too_ bad, so we left it as is. Actually, until very late in the development process you could only place/erase tools by clicking each individual cell instead of "drawing" with LMB held - now _that_ was terrible :D

@u-tsang-clan wow, great job! I only did 110 in sources+mirrors, now I feel like I need to try and beat 112 ha ha :D

The nhon-nhon millionaire by Eranot 2019-10-12T06:54:28Z

Very nice mix of idle/management, and the length was just right. I enjoyed it a lot! :)

バクラウBloodless by Danilo Freire 2019-10-13T03:58:27Z

Genuinely surprised by the quality and the perfectly tuned aesthetics. Played it through and loved every second of it, amazing job!

The only nitpick I have is that the hitboxes don't feel right sometimes - it felt like the dash hit should have registered, but it didn't and I either missed or even got hit by the enemy. Maybe it's due to my playing on a keyboard where I don't have as precise control of dash direction as on a gamepad (i.e. I had to line myself up with an enemy correctly in addition to dashing towards them at the right moment). This didn't reduce my opinion of the game :)

Split or Steal by Monish Vyas 2019-10-08T06:42:47Z

I really loved the humor and the graphics, awesome job!

HUMAN by QuadApe 2019-10-11T06:33:04Z

The game is brutal! Couldn't beat the next boss after getting smell (last one I guess?), but still enjoyed the game very, very much. It's so stylish and polished, I'm really amazed - awesome job!

Negation by gasgiant 2019-10-09T04:23:09Z

Awesome puzzle design and atmosphere. You did a great job!

Minno by --0 2019-10-13T03:37:37Z

What an awesome puzzle game! Great idea and execution - I loved the puzzle design and wanted more when it ended!

One Red Paperclip by Andre Fremaux 2019-10-08T06:21:21Z

Love the art style and the idea. Wish the game was longer, it reminded me of the Dizzy game on NES that I used to play a lot as a child. Good job!
