This is my favorite so far. Controls are smooth and its a novel use of the dodge roll. The only thing I would suggest is maybe making how you get bullets clearer. Great job.

brandon-js-lea 2019-10-07 00:27

Quite difficult, even from the start, but this is really well made.

The theme was quite a difficult one so the fact you tuned it into a mechanic that serves an actual purpose in the time limit is really impressive. Great back-forth gameplay.

My only real gripe is with the enemies. Having them follow you means all the bullets come from one place which isn't the best IMO, plus it gives you very little wiggle room. Plus a lack of indicators for when they attack feels a little bit unfair. Having more warning could lead to more thoughtful gameplay. Having them fly down onto the arena might solve the other issue.

Overall though, fantastic entry. Plays great, sounds great and art looks great, especially for 48 hours. Perhaps try experimenting with having the rollout stun the enemies, could add an extra layer of strategy plus it feels a bit odd to have the player roll over the enemy with no interaction.

@thevideogamester Thanks for the play! I was going to add a tutorial, but time constraints are obviously very tight for Compo.

@brandon-js-lea Thanks for the feedback! I agree that it feels a little bad that the enemies tend to bunch up, and given more time I definitely would have made more variations to that. **There is a "boss" on Wave 5** whose movement is a little more varied ;)

thevideogamester 2019-10-07 00:43

Understandable. I was able to figure it out the second round. But still the best one I have played so far

pavel-ivanov 2019-10-07 02:13

Nice game but to get it running was kinda confusing. Maybe you can use the itch.io's section for install instructions to give some steps on how to do it? But overall, nice game!

william-derksen 2019-10-07 02:59

Wowwie! Great Game! Can tell there was a lot of effort put in! I like the tradeoff of using the dash in that it is the only way to gain an offense by collecting bullets but also leaves you vulnerable at the end when you recover. Although, sometimes it felt like no matter what I were to do I would somehow get hit by a bullet. In the end it was a great time to play. Loved the music too, very lively, good fit to the game.

bobothegreat 2019-10-07 06:53

What an absolutely adorable game! It was a lot of fun to play, I ended up playing it through a couple of times, the first time really cautiously then the second time a lot more aggressive with the enemies. The whole game has a really nice ascetic and the music fits the game really well. The mechanics and controls all felt super tight and really nice to control. The only thing that I didn't absolutely love is when I tried to play really safe the first time and save up 3 hearts for the boss fight, because the bullets are so close it would just one shot you anyways. It might be nice to have just a couple i-frames after you get hit, but other then that it's a super awesome game :)

jk5000 2019-10-07 07:39

The music, graphics and game idea is really super great. Sadly for me the game was way too difficult to even be able to shoot the first bird once. Overall a good combo game. Well done.

gustav-andersson 2019-10-07 09:45

Fun and super nice graphics/art! Very difficult to dodge into bullets because they going straight towards you and you often dodge to the side:)

kuviman 2019-10-07 10:56

Figuring out that you need to roll enemy's shot was hard. Other than that, nicely done!

valden 2019-10-07 23:58

Very clever gameplay. The game was pretty hard, but it's really interesting. Well done !

maxdmg 2019-10-08 03:28

Great idea and really well executed for being made in 48 hours. This would make a super great rogue like, could definitely be a Enter The Gungeon killer or atleast scratch that itch for people who are fans of that and Binding of Isaac. Really unique take on the bullet hell style would love to see a further fleshed out game. I just wish there were power ups to be honest. Also another thing I really picked up on was the impact effects were quick, subtle, and satisfying. Little details like that really show the meticulous effort put into this. The death animation was great as well. Really quality game right here!

paul-nadan 2019-10-08 04:11

Great work, the visuals and audio are really well done! The object permanence on the feathers and the mice audience were nice touches. I wish there were checkpoints after each fight, but otherwise this is an amazing entry!

coffeecup-winner 2019-10-08 05:56

Very beautiful and compact game, solid mechanics - a pure joy to play. Great job!

adamk33n3r 2019-10-08 06:27

This is incredible. Full marks. Very difficult but I had a lot of fun with it

frederikh 2019-10-08 06:41

Pretty hard but really great little game. Love the focus on dodging in a clever way. Would definetly play it as a full fledged game :)

philarmon 2019-10-08 09:07

Love the graphics and the game play, altought he game is really hard, How the heck can you do such a good game in two days in python? :) I didn't even knew that you can do games with it :)

victor-reiner 2019-10-08 09:07

Incredible game! Soo hard but i like it! Nice job!

corrade 2019-10-08 09:22

I'm amazing by the amount of polish you've put into this. There seems to be a little sound effect and animation for everything. It's super tight. Gameplay-wise, it took quite a few tries to squash the rat king but I was consistently enjoying the experience. I ended up farming bullets off of the last enemy left in a round to make further rounds easier - didn't expect to be strategising!

I think the border of the stage could just be a normal wall rather than a bouncy boundary. A short tutorial or key prompts would've been great as I didn't know I had to block bullets to gain them.

eggshelldog 2019-10-08 11:19

Really solid entry. A smart and cute main character that fit the core mechanism. The gameplay is smooth and fun!

hcursino 2019-10-08 13:44

Wow! Just wow! Simple game, but yet challenging. Intuitive mechanics easy to learn. Great art, great animations, great music, great sfx. This is just brilliant. Amazing work!

rayne 2019-10-08 18:16

Amaaaazing entry, I'd definitely play this in a longer version

excy 2019-10-08 18:25

Insanely good, I love the take on the theme you did! Could very well see this becoming a published game.

sirred 2019-10-08 18:29

Great game. As a fan of harder games I found this an enjoyable challenge with a nice progression.

ninnec 2019-10-08 18:36

Really well made! Loved the art and the music and kicking that first birds butt. Unfortunately his older brother seemed to have gotten me

2019-10-08 18:55

Really fun, great sound design and super clear graphics too, feels like I'd have got really into this on a controller with a bit more fine control!

dodori 2019-10-08 19:27

Really awesome game, so simple, yet so fun! Definitely one of the most fun games I've seen / played so far!!

avzgui 2019-10-08 20:06

Wow, such a great game. Graphics are amazing, the music is really cool and the gameplay is quite intuitive, all made in 48h, very impressive.

Some ideas to improve the gamefeel: - Graphical indicators when ennemies will shoot - Zoom in or out to always see player and all ennemies - maybe decrease cooldown between dodges a little bit

anstabo 2019-10-08 21:30

Beautiful sprites and animations everything is so readable. It was a bit hard for me, I couldn't manage to get bullets when coming from a diagonal. Would love to play it again on a controller. Anyway the game is fun and it's a nice idea to have the player dash/attack with bullets.

erebus 2019-10-09 03:35

Really nice art and job overall. Love me some dodge rolls! Thanks so much for bringing it by the stream!

mildmelon 2019-10-09 04:47

Hey, really liked this game! Quite a challenge a I got a fair amount of Dark-Souls style combat, very slow pace with well timed fast movements! The biggested challenge I had with was getting the correct position to dogde into the bullets. I think this was wonderfully made, especially for a compo!

Loved the game! Good luck with the ratings

enver-arco 2019-10-09 18:48

ooo really cute bullet time game. I like the mechanic of gaining ammo for each hit you take when your in ball form. Art is stunning

paulhocker 2019-10-10 02:11

i founf it difficult with the space bar to roll -- maybe use right mouse for roll and left for shoot -- overall nice game and i like the mechanic -- thanks for making it

tekses 2019-10-10 12:18

I really love the style of your Game. The cuteness is unreal. DAMN those shell-less mice!. The Gameplay is very smooth and i like your worldbuilding quite a lot.

gswong 2019-10-10 22:15

Great looking game and fun gameplay!

tricky-fat-cat 2019-10-13 21:20

1. Gorgeous art. 2. Fine music. 3. Magnificent idea.

However, roll doesn't feel as a roll it's short and slow. Also, speed of enemies projectiles are too fast to catch. And enemies needs some indications of attack. Anyway, great work. Well done.

omiya-games 2019-10-13 21:51

Had a lot of fun playing the stream! A lot of clever game design decisions makes this a very pleasant game to play throughout, including tight controls, easy-to-predict bullet patterns, HUD that follows the character, etc. I did think it was a little hard, but not in a way that I thought was unfair.

Some polishes include an easier way to aim the dodge roll, as that proved to be the hardest thing to learn in the game. Some foreshadowing on the attack patterns would have been nice as well. Overall, strongly enjoyed the experience!

Lovely graphics, great game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 45 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/zqhSjSyg75I

brokenmirrormedia 2019-10-29 00:51

Wow this is a really fun game! The graphics look fantastic, and the movement feels responsive, which is great for a shooter like this. I love that the birds leave behind feathers as you shoot them, and the mechanic of grabbing their bullets to use against them is fantastic. Great work!
