This is a super cool concept! I loved to play with my own drawings, you learn to care about them more if they are your own creations. :) Just one bit of feedback. After dying, it'd be nice to get to retry again with the same drawings, instead of being forced to draw everything all over again. But nonetheless, I was impressed!

Wow really fun! i like these kind of games. PS: My friend said "Wow is ugly" and i said "i drawed it....."
Love this! clever but potentially dangerous to let the user make their own art for you lol! but brilliant :)
So I really liked your game! A game that gives player control over itself, in this case over its own design, really gets me going. It's cute, the 2D shooter portion is fun. One thing I'd change is the time limit for each drawing, since with it I don't feel in control and cannot draw much in 30 seconds. If you left it out people will be sharing their masterpieces for sure! Great work.

@sndr I'm really glad you liked it! I've actually managed to add in a "rety with same drawings" option at the last minute. Thanks for suggesting it!
@Lausemand Hah! Thank you <3
@TIMOTHEUS-25 It totally is dangerous, but for me that's part of the amusement. One of the advantages of single player lol
@GastricSparrow Thank you! You made a good point about the time limit. I added it because I was afraid all the drawing segments would start to drag without it, but I've gone and added a toggle for it. That way people can either take their time or have some silly fun seeing how fast they can draw something.

Cool game, really innovative! I love how you first have to draw stuff and then you have to fight against the ugly pieces you made! xD Somehow I happen do die with no certain reason, maybe you could fix that...
This morning you said, you wanted to try my game, remember? Here it is: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/secrets-of-the-forest

@DevEmil Glad you enjoyed! I'm currently working on a hotfix for the "randomly dying" problem.
And yes! I do want to see it. Will be playing games soon. :3

This is so much fun! I was watching the gifs as you made it, and was very excited to play. It's a really great combo!

@RamiaD Thank you very much!
I really like the blend of paint and fighter. Although the movement/shooting didn't 100% feel perfect, the idea of this game is really fun! Great job!

@microwerx Yeah, there's a few things about the shooting segment that I'm not 100% happy with, but I'm very glad you enjoyed it.

This was a very clever game and I am happy I played it. Great job! My only criticism would be to remove the drawing timer and add more brush sizes.

finally a game where i can play as trogdor the burninator, defeating colorful combat knives and bananas.
this is what i always wanted
cool idea, we can make the way we like it, I like the music too, great job

@matsoj15 @holo @JheysonLima Glad you enjoyed! <3
@holo Thanks! More brushes would be cool, though I do have to be careful how thin of a like I can let you draw, as the sprite gets shrunk down quite a bit. The timer, I actually do have a toggle for that on the title screen. I have it set as default to prevent the game from feeling like it's dragging, but you can totally disable it for a more relaxed time drawing.

Well played, I very quickly saw what was coming after drawing a couple things. I think it was a great idea. I will say thins though I felt the controls were a mess, shoothing would have been better with mouse or one button=faced direction. Theres also color changing. I ignored it cause it didn't feel worth it. got used to it quick but it felt like twin stick shooter... on a keyboard; weird.
I cant believe the things I went with but that made thing silly and thats nice. Timer was too short (yet a good idea, consider making it a bit longer, want the time to do something yet some pressure to do it quick.)
What can I say, a great idea maybe not perfect in execution, but mostly little things so its all a nice game.
Good job.

@joh Glad you enjoyed! A "twin-stick shooter" is how a friend of mine described it as I was making it too, but I'm not familiar enough with the genre to say for sure. Definitely could have used the mouse, though I specifically wanted to avoid "shoot the direction you're facing". I've never liked it in games where I have to move towards an enemy just to shoot them.
I'll consider upping the timer. I like the idea of bad art that you don't get too attached to, but some extra time for thinking about what to draw may be helpful.
defeat by my own creation...so this is how it ends...good game :)
Nice game. You know well that one picture is worth a thousand words. That's why you can check out my comment in this Let's Play video!

That was interesting. You know, at first i was kinda skeptical, and the drawing part felt a bit too long for my taste. but once you get to the shooter part it all comes into place. Seeing my doodles come to life is very interesting experience. Different speeds of the enemies does give different character to them too. The difficulty curve is a bit too shallow for me, i'd prefer to get into a hardcore action sooner(but that's just me) Overall good game, fun experience!
A really cute concept! Something like this feels like it could be modified into a party game of some kind. I liked a lot of the little details, like the paint balls turning the background elements different colors.

@legavroche Thank you! Glad you enjoyed
@JackLeHamster Thanks for playing and showcasing! Enjoyed watching you play and figure out just why I was making you draw a gajillion things.
@Ongomato Yeah, I tend to err more on the side of accessibility and most of my games end up kinda easy. Probably could use a bit more balancing though. Glad you enjoyed it!
@Autumnotopia Thanks! I sorta had some of the Jackbox games in the back of my mind with the drawing. Like, I'm fully expecting people to just draw really bad art (in all meanings of the phrase) and get a laugh out of it. And painting the area was a last minute addition, but I think it's one of my favorite parts.

I spent waaaaay to long on the drawing part...that was a lot of fun! I kept pressing my "undo last stroke" button and kept ending up disappointed that it wouldn't work ahah. The real magic began when I realised it was possible to (kinda) use my graphic tablet.
As for the shooter part, the paint balls changing the colors of the background and other objects was a really nice addition! But to be honest I didn't play that part much, just long enough to see my creations and then I would reload to start again.
Fun game!

Really cute idea! Would never have thought to make a game about hurling molotov cocktails at cute bunny rabbits, except, well, I guess I just did!
I didn't know where it was going at all with all the drawing, though I was having fun with it. I found the place you took it surprising and satisfying. Well done!!

@0uicmoi I'd love to implement an undo, though I have no idea if it'd be possible to make it work with personal undo buttons. Glad you enjoyed!
@pkenney Thanks! Glad you appreciated the surprise turn.
Have you ever played Drawn to Life? It's a very similar concept to what you did here, but your game still feels unique on its own. It's really fun to play as and interact with your own creations in a game, and you pulled it off pretty well. I would say that the shooting part is a little simple, and that's not a bad thing but I would like to have seen the whole "choose your color of weapon" thing expanded upon, because it seemed kind of interesting.
A great little shooter, and so much fun being able to make it your own. Nice job!

@TinyCastleGuy I have not, although I have heard of it. And yeah, I'd like to come up with a way to make the weapon color choices more appealing. You DO earn double points if you one-shot an enemy (exception being the white ones, who don't penalize you for having to color them once) but it's not particularly obvious, and probably not a huge incentive on its own.
@Ninjascribble Glad you enjoyed!
I really liked this concept! It was fun to fight against my creations. I didn't realize for the first one an a half drawings that I was timed and I was a little annoyed when my drawing disappeared. Maybe a little warning? I didn't see the count over on the right at first.
The shooter part was a little tame. I just camped out in the center of the screen and shot everything after awhile. Moving around wasn't worth it. I got through 4 rounds and was in the middle of the fifth before anything even got close to me.
Maybe the upgraded guys could only be hit by their color, forcing the player to change up their attacks or move around? Or maybe an enemy that shoots projectiles?
Not trying to be overly critical! I love the concept and the way you implemented it! These were thoughts that popped into my head as I played that would have made me enjoy it more!
I also liked the music a lot, especially the first song that sounded like you were just randomly hitting the piano! :smile:
Edit - I'm not sure how to rate the Graphics category. "1 Star - these graphics sucked!!! Wait, I drew them..." :laughing:
Nice! Drawn To Life plus a twin-stick shooter. I had quite a bit of fun.
The one useful thing I can say is that I'm not sure what, exactly, the purpose of the color-changing is. The extra cognitive load (or whatever) of keeping track of colors is actually more effort than simply spamming the shoot button.

@minibobbo Glad you enjoyed! That's a good point about the drawing timer. I have some thoughts on improving that. Like, there's a toggle for it, but most people seem to miss it on the title page. I've started a list of things I think need improved (difficulty, for one) for when I have time to update things, so I definitely don't think you're being overly critical.
@TheMonsterFromTheDeep Thanks! The color changing was originally meant to be appealing because it's a one shot kill if you match the color, plus some bonus points. But it didn't really work out that way, so the main reason is just for the bonus points. I definitely agree it could use some work, though I'm not sure the best way to handle it outside of limiting your rate of fire, which I'd rather avoid.

You had an amazing idea, the fact that I define what is every element is great and gives me the choice to be creative. The rest of the art style matches perfectly with the approach if player creating the art. Great job!!!
