LD42 — Running out of space

Delivery Boi by JCMonkey 2018-08-13T23:52:32Z

Worked in FF for me after flailing in Chrome, guess I learned something about Godot's WebGL implementation this jam :P

I think if I'd change anything, I might make the gap between the pickup and drop points a little smaller, but that's more about my preference for frantic stuff.

This is a pretty cool game overall, though! Awesome work.

Nuclear Arms 6: Waste Wizard's Tricks by Logicon211 2018-08-14T01:27:23Z

this seems like it was probably a pretty fun weekend for you all

Deadpan Gulch by dwemthy 2018-08-13T19:16:06Z

you had me at "panning for gold with oprah"

this is a cool take on the theme--sure, the showdowns are easy, but it's a jam game :) really obvious that you could polish this up into something fun if you wanted !

Urban Planning by reuno 2018-08-14T02:06:25Z

ah, yeah, this is more or less what i imagined it would be like to be an urban planner.

really into that victory animation. househousehousehousehousehousehousehouse

a little difficult to tell how exactly to do a good job killing stuff, but the weird more than makes up for it.

Running Away by crastinator 2018-08-14T01:50:44Z

ahahaha i'm so glad i didn't read any of the comments before playing this! "rrgh, is this seriously just a runner?" and then, b-b-b-b-bounce!

this is a fun little mechanic! totally felt the dread of falling back, back, back and needing to start over again, enjoyed the quick humor. cool entry! and thanks for playing my game, too. :)

Warehouse by James Dunlap 2018-08-13T19:48:51Z

the music! the backing up sound! i forgot how to drive a forklift, but after i remembered that i need to actually get the lift allll the way under the boxes, things were easier. honestly would probably be a bit easier to follow with nothing but pulling the camera back a bit :)

also, you know, good job on making it a family effort :)

SUPER CONVERGER by EnchaeC 2018-08-14T00:05:48Z

Hey--either I turned totally stupid, or after my first time playing through a few levels, the portals on the first real level didn't come back--did you notice anything like this? Alternatively I'm just totally worn out and got lucky the first time through :)

Really awesome mood / graphics / gameplay, though!

SUPER CONVERGER by EnchaeC 2018-08-14T00:32:16Z

Thanks for getting back--I played again based on that and it seems like I just have really bad luck sometimes, and sometimes that happens several rounds in a row--I've made it down to 475m at this point, though, so I guess that's something approaching competency :)

[REDUCE:REUSE] by Brandon Diaz 2018-08-13T17:20:04Z

This is pretty cool! The inventory up at the top kinda tricked me--at first I thought that I could only pick up two things, then I didn't understand why I could sometimes pick up three things (I was just doing it "by accident"), then I finally realized I could pick up tons of stuff.

The controls are a little janky if I switch directions too quick, but what the heck, it's a game jam--very cool that you wrote this all from scratch / without a big engine.

The Big Crunch: Cosmic Horizon by Daniel Alhadeff 2018-08-14T00:22:03Z

Cool game! Unfortunately I'm terrible at physics, or something, because i'm mostly good at shooting the asteroids in ever-faster circles around the level.

Really only tiny stuff that I'd change--primarily the audio level for the shooting sound, but this is a really well-polished game for 24 hours! Awesome work.

p.s., if you're able to write video games, is it really camping? :P

Running out of Memory Space by RilleP 2018-08-13T07:41:42Z

This is a fun concept! It's kind of easy to get stuck while you're figuring out the game in the first few levels. I ended up guessing (nice) that R was a reset button. Probably worth putting that on the page for other players!

ToFSDfSftPDRRoDwL by Xwilarg 2018-08-14T01:01:03Z

I scored 1015, which your screenshots make me think is maybe an okay score?? who knows!

Evil Forest Battle by devharts 2018-08-14T00:56:01Z

This is a surprising little game--it seems very simple at first, but then you actually realize on the later levels that you need to stare at the board for a moment before just going crazy. Good stuff!

Notebook Boy in The Ghostbook by NickTheSic 2018-08-13T18:49:59Z

This is a cool concept! I'd probably repeat some of the same stuff other people said about moving enemies and stuff, but I totally empathize with this being a quick jam game :) This seems like it could be really fun if you wanted to spend more time on it!

Globulator by Corbak 2018-08-13T20:12:38Z

This is definitely one of the more unique takes on the theme I've seen so far -- awesome work!

Storage Overflow by Andreas Roschal 2018-08-14T01:35:06Z

heh, the people- and cartoon bomb-shaped packages are a nice touch :P nice work!

Space Adyssey by Engyne 2018-08-13T19:30:31Z

sure, why not! this is bizarre and enjoyable. it took me a bit to figure out how to get rid of the mail and fidget spinner ads, which i guess counts as realism.

Space Adyssey by Engyne 2018-08-13T19:30:35Z

sorry for the double post, ldjam.com is having a bad time :)

Running out of Space by 314owen 2018-08-13T08:08:36Z

Fun little concept! Seems like you could do some pretty crazy levels with more time--mouse wheel mechanic is totally enjoyable. Nice job!

Claustrophobia by deformhead 2018-08-13T08:12:33Z

Awesome art, and a fun little memory-puzzle game! Would be kind of fun to try this on a level with 20 moves in it :P Also, this is really awesome stuff for a first game jam :)

DEFRAG by jdhollen 2018-08-13T08:15:15Z

@cassowary I don't know if it's good or bad either! I'm kind of excited to see what other people can do--I topped out at level 10.

DEFRAG by jdhollen 2018-08-13T23:56:41Z

@enchaec thanks! i definitely waited too long to come back to art, and more or less ended up punting :) the background grid is... special. oh well! still pretty happy to have come up with something fairly playable.

DEFRAG by jdhollen 2018-08-14T01:20:15Z

@xwilarg thanks for the feedback! The idea is that the pieces can wrap around from the left side to the right side--i admittedly didn't spend enough time on graphics this time around, so i didn't end up representing that very well. basically, the pieces that don't fall on the right hand side are probably connected to something that started on the previous row on the left hand side.

thanks again for the feedback ! :)

DEFRAG by jdhollen 2018-08-14T01:28:53Z

ah, yeah, the game gets into a runaway failure state pretty fast! i think i probably could have saved it a bit by having the powerups appear more often, but hey, it's done now :)

DEFRAG by jdhollen 2018-08-14T01:46:13Z

@crastinator yeah, totally! mouse controls were on my todo list but got chopped at about 3am saturday night / sunday morning :)

DEFRAG by jdhollen 2018-08-14T02:38:56Z

@tattomoosa thanks for the feedback! i totally have the code for a little ghost piece all written--i actually took it out and forgot to add it back in because i originally had the player's piece as a little ghost of the piece being moved as well--should have put it back when i made the outline green instead. oh well!

Space Saver by Lefinno 2018-08-13T07:52:55Z

great work! the bullet effect around the planet was very nice, even if it didn't seem to hit the enemies very often :) i mostly ended up just running up to stuff and shooting at my own feet, more or less. Not sure if that's user error or not :)

InkCleaner by neuralcoder 2018-08-13T19:55:40Z

why am i always such a sucker for hand-drawn games?

this is a cool little game! seems like you have some kind of object pooling limit? at the end, i end up surrounded by ink but able to easily keep it far enough away by not moving and mashing space. the pacing is pretty good up to that point, seems like you probably just need a bit more randomness / turnover in ink placement?

overall, good work!

shipme (Starbase Shipping Simulation) by lsummers 2018-08-13T08:03:05Z

Nice job! I might speed up the pace of play after the first couple of purchases, but dang, you got a lot done in 2 days !
