Really like the idea behind the game. The idea of erasing stuff on a page to survive is interesting, but I think the erasing mechanic could be done to be more enjoyable. Maybe adding some dodging mechanic, making the pencils attack you.

@esmouc Thanks for the idea! It is a really great one idea too! I did want to add something like that to the game but I didn't want to overwork myself in this short time. Thanks for playing and rating!

louckousse 2018-08-13 17:02

The theme and the graphics are really cool! I didn't get if I need to smash space or just keep it pushed but anyway it was fun.

hi-irie 2018-08-13 17:04

Really like the idea and the darkness of the story coupled with the theme. gameplay is really easy to ramp up on as well as play through multiple times. Loved it!!!

nickthesic 2018-08-13 17:13

@louckousse You need to press space to get the art to erase, that might be something I add to the how to section in a future update. I am glad you had fun! Thanks for playing!

nickthesic 2018-08-13 17:16

@hi-irie Thanks for playing! If you got to the bad ending you can read the full story and when you win the unerasable text kinda adds to the stickman's story. I did want to add a bit more to the gameplay but I am happy with what I got done in the time of the jam. I am glad you loved it!

g4mr 2018-08-13 18:44

heh, that ghost had a lot of hands if you ask me ;)

jdhollen 2018-08-13 18:49

This is a cool concept! I'd probably repeat some of the same stuff other people said about moving enemies and stuff, but I totally empathize with this being a quick jam game :) This seems like it could be really fun if you wanted to spend more time on it!

nickthesic 2018-08-13 18:54

@jdhollen Thanks for the feedback! If I get around to making more content and polishing up I will definitely add enemies and other types of hazards.

Nice job! Thanks for bringing it by the stream!

pohko 2018-08-14 12:46

This is really cool and super innovative, I'd love to see more of this one! It's one of the more surprising entries that I've played. I love the mixed art style, really great submission!

nickthesic 2018-08-14 15:39

@erebus Thanks for playing it on stream! It was great to be able to watch someone play it

dr-monkfish 2018-08-14 15:41

Cool concept! The art is cool too! I don't see many with photos as graphics and I think that worked really well with the game. Good job!

nickthesic 2018-08-14 15:44

@gareththedestro Thanks for playing! I might take this idea further in a Weekly Game Jam entry in the future!

nickthesic 2018-08-14 15:45

@dr-monkfish Thanks! I am not much of an artist so going for real images was my first thought for good art

drevilbrain 2018-08-15 01:33

The split actual images and digital drawings idea is pretty neat. Almost reminds me of some of those parts in Spongebob where they motion tween still images.

Good Gaming Idea, Music needs to be improved Graphics good

chaitae 2018-08-15 14:41

Graphics was interesting. I'd recommend going into gimp/photoshop to change the brightness and contrast to match the text and drawings better though.

goda 2018-08-16 18:02

Nice little game and quite unique! I liked the music quite a bit, it really added to the atmosphere. Just wish the game was a little longer as it ended quite quickly. It would be cool to add some sort of special item that you could erase which would make you run/move around faster for a little while (I guess in conjunction with the game getting a little more difficult as time goes by).

nickthesic 2018-08-16 21:22

@awix Thanks for your feedback, I tried to make a short looping clip that added a bit to the spooky mood of the game. I will hopefully be updating some stuff post Ludum Dare.

nickthesic 2018-08-16 21:24

@chaitae Thank you for the feedback, I did do some basic editing of the real photos before I had added the text and drawings. I didn't think of going back and fixing some stuff up because of the time. Thanks! It will be something that I will update post jam.

nickthesic 2018-08-16 21:27

@Goda Thanks for playing! I wanted to make this version of the game a bit shorter so it would be easier to play and beat. I do think I will use this idea and make a bigger game with it, with more variety to the stories and art. I never really thought of adding erasable upgrades, that is a really cool idea! I will add that to a post Ludum Dare version of the game, thanks!

nerdyherbivore 2018-08-17 03:21

Great job on your first LD! I liked the idea of a erasing mechanic, but it felt a bit clunky. Maybe just a little animation, so I knew to keep spamming space, would help. I also wanted a restart button at the end, so I could retry. I was glad I got to read the story in the end though, I always felt a little bad separating the two ghost lovers. :D

nickthesic 2018-08-17 15:54

@nerdyherbivore Thank you for playing and for the feedback! I know that there needs to be more for the erasing mechanic and that is something that I will add in a post LD update.

Cute game! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/F8Gtbi3loPc
