Hey @dikopr0s, that's odd - you are locked in place for the 3 lines of dialogue that play, but it should free you up after that! I'll test the build and let you know.
EDIT: Seems to work for me - are you using keyboard/mouse or controller?
This was fun! i must admit i didn't understand much of the humour, but i liked the town! and i just enjoyed jumped on things to get around the city. nice work!
very sad.. I can't play the game, the character doesn't move ...
Very sad :( The controlls for the game do not work properly.
I answered "plumbing for idiots" to the farmer then got stuck haha... Great VA! The village was kind of creepy with the square heads, nice atmosphere
I can't get it to work either. Neither keyboard or gamepad is responsive after I start the game (they work fine in menus tho). Bummer, because this one looks really nice and I wanna try it :'(
@endssgamesstudio @devparty I've donwloaded the itch version and controls work for me, seems like there is a problem affecting some people only :( could I ask if you're using mouse/keyboard or controller?
Yea, I'm using a keyboard.
I liked the models. Simple, but everything was very recognisable.
What's supposed to happen when you choose the wrong lie? Both times, the character glared at me, and I didn't seem to be able to do anything except relaunch the game. That feels like a bug, but is it the failure condition?
The dialogue with the vicar made me chuckle when he was talking about pseudoscience. Very tongue-in-cheek.
@devparty thank you - is there any chance you could send me your log file please? I can't reproduce locally.. The log file is located at *C:\Users(your username)\AppData\LocalLow\Baffled Crab\Tall Tales*
Laughed out loud when the well was destroyed! Really funny game!
@divford Thank you! :) Yeah, that doesn't sound right, there shouldn't be any situations where you have to relaunch the game, you sohuld always be able to get to the end - I'll try a play through with bad responses on the current build now, thanks
Edit: The dialogue hanging up was indeed a bug! Fixed and patched on itch.
@dikopr0s @endssgamesstudio @devparty Hey guys, thanks for reporting those control issues earlier - still haven't quite got to the bottom of them, seems like it's having trouble loading xinput dlls for some reason, but just wanted to let you know, we've added a workaround now:
ControlIssues.png
If you enable this option in the menu it should let you try the game - just wanted to let you know!
@congusbongus thank you so much for playing! We have now fixed this bug so please do have another go if you’d like to :)
Hi @arthur-mairs, thanks for playing and for your kind feedback :)
Hey @tim-leach, thank you for playing and for your comments - really glad you enjoyed it!
@octopoid Sadly this fix didnt work for me изображение_2021-04-28_212329.png. I get stuck here. Right after the closing door sound. I run it on Win10 with dual monitor setup(tried windowsed and fullscreen modes).
@dikopr0s Ah no, I'm sorry about that, thanks for checking again. I've removed XInput entirely now, which *really* should solve this, as the controls are now just using the standard Unity system.
"If I catch you lying, I'll throw you down the well."
Jokes on you, I'll throw myself down the well! *fails to do so*
Anyways, I have smooth brain so it took me like 10 minutes to find the farmer, which I spent jumping around in beat to the chill music. After I found him and got on with it, this was hilarious. Loved all the jokes, especially the vicar's, and the different endings on the end screen are great
Hi @sockpuppetcow! Thank you very much for your kind feedback - I’m so pleased you liked our game :D
I love the work you put into a full 3D environment, with NPCs and branching dialogue. I will say, with the pauses between each sentence and the inability to skip to the next line, the pacing did feel very slow. I would recommend letting players skip to the next line.
Nice work with an ambitious entry!
Hey @andrewkennedy - thanks for the play through and the review! Funny you mention that actually, I was saying on the Sunday how much time a skip dialogue button would have saved during testing, turns out everyone would have preferred that 😂 - will definitely add next time!
One thing I've learned from having lots of feedback on my projects is that if you find something difficult, annoying, or are trying to avoid it in your game, you can assume the players will feel it to an even more acute degree, and you should lean into it. I still struggle to remember that myself though!
@octopoid Alas, even this fix didnt help. Nevertheless, the game looks interesting and pretty, I hope that it will develop into good full games sometimes. Thanks for your efforts!
@dikopr0s Ahhh no, I really thought we'd got it this time 😣 thanks for your kind words, and multiple patient attempts at trying this, much appreciated - really frustrating we couldn't get it running for you - Deep Sleep looks really interesting, we'll all definitely be giving it a go at the weekend! 😀
Hi @fpeg, thanks so much for trying our game :) I’m very sorry you had issues with the controls. We’ve done another build to try and address this so fingers crossed it works for you now.
I failed to find the farmer! But it was a nicely designed game, good visuals, thematic audio, and seeing all the things I did find, I could tell there was a cool story in there somewhere. Good job!
I started laughing out loud when I kicked the well and it exploded. I honestly have not enjoyed any other game as much as this one, amazing job!! I almost gave up on finding the farmer at the start, but I'm glad I didn't. The depth to this game is really impressive.
Fun game! Enjoyed the quests, and the world. The voice overs were great and love how the characters were lipsynced, and facial expressions. All around good fun for a jam game!
It's absolutely mindblowing what you guys pulled off in just 72hours. What an awesome, wholesome game and universe. Really fun gameplay, music, art, voice acting and story. Having detailed such as having animated 3d characters, having their mouths speak in sync with the voice, all of that was just really really great. Awesome job altogether!

@aquasheep3000 Ahh, we must have hidden him too well!! I've added a note to page now with a hint, basically go to the green, look for buildings which (possibly) look like barns, and you have to go down a dirt track to find him. Thanks for the play and review though, we'll be checking out Perchance to Dream after work tonight!
@manan ah, thanks, really pleased to hear you enjoyed that bit - getting that well scene working properly was a labour of love haha
@thatmanrobin Thanks for your play and review, much appreciated!
@karlipoppins Thank you very much! To be honest late on the 2nd day I think we were all wondering if we'd bit off more than we could chew, but it's amazing what an immovable deadline will do!
I'm a big fan of spamming glowsticks in Terraria, so looking forward to trying Glowstick Run tonight!
This was a surprisingly good game, it was super funny all throughout it but also eerily creepy throughout it, which I'm not sure if that was the goal but nonetheless was still really good and enhanced the experience a lot. All in all a fantastic game!
This is a really fun game. I love the style, the music, the voice acting!
A few more hints might be nice - because I couldn't figure out how to get Paddles out of the well!
Nice game, impressive given you've only got 72 hours. However, I think it would be nice if you added a map somewhere in town, or you had an arrow pointing you to your next task, as I had a bit of trouble finding where I needed to go.
I'm just curious, is it possible to get a bad ending, where you get thrown down the village well? I haven't played enough to know if that is the case.
Hey @borderdestroyer, thanks for playing and for your kind feedback. I'm so glad you enjoyed our game!
Hi @andrewaprice, thank you for playing, and for your kind feedback. I'm really glad you found our game fun!
Hey @escapade, thanks so much for playing and for your feedback and suggestions.
It is not currently possible to get thrown down the well, but there are different endings. We are working on a post-jam version in which you might be able to fall or be thrown down the well.
It's a great game for a 72 hour jam, I like the story, simple characters, and the humor. It's crazy that the entire village depended on the Plumbing for idiots book, and the way to get the cat out was funny.
That was quite an enjoyable and calming experience. Nice twist on the theme although I would have loved to see it all escalate a bit more and to get trapped in my lies. I didn't feel deep enough once it all ended. The voice acting and the face animations were both top notch and really made it all feel alive.
Great job making this game! this is probably my favourite so far. Just everything is perfect: the graphics, the voice acting (especially the vicar), the humour... And there a many options in the game menu! My only nit-pick is that subtitles are a tad hard to read sometimes. But the very fact that there are subtitles is a huge plus! Once again, great job!
Hi @sibi, thanks a lot for playing and for your kind feedback. It was indeed supposed to escalate more with the lies, but we had to reign in the scope to ensure we could complete it! We will be creating a post-jam version and hope to get the full concept in there.
Hey @gamedev-and-architecture, thank you very much for playing and for your kind feedback. We will definitely review the subtitle font in our post-jam version. I'm so glad you enjoyed playing!
Really nice game! I like the idea / concept (certainly very original out of the games I've played thus far) and the whole vibe of the game was very well-made -- the graphics, voice acting, and eternal game of round-the-world cricket that seems to be going on.
I found the village quite easy to navigate -- I somehow got to the right place for all of the quests first time, although I wasted a lot of time at the end searching all the crevices. The village probably could've been a little smaller, if people have found it hard to find the farmer. It took me a while to remember which house was mine too :p A map would've probably helped a little.
The music was very suitable too, although I did find it gets annoying after a few minutes -- perhaps next time it would be good to have something with a bit more variation for a longer game like this (note: I have driven myself mad with my own music before like this, it's quite hard to fit into a game jam among everything else!)
All in all I'm glad I made a day trip to your village :D
Hey @leekanarchism, thanks for the review! I actually wanted to add some random dialogue lines to the cricketers, commenting on the endless runs, but just ran out of time.
A location for the farmer was actually added in after the original village was made, and I think in retrospect taking the time to redesign the village would have saved some trouble. The map is a great point, and I just genuinely didn't think about it - I think because I knew my way around it just didn't spring to mind.
The music I think is true as well - that one I *did* notice, but assumed it was because I'd heard it over and over. I seperated the music slider into seperate "main theme" and "character theme" sliders, and turned it off - but then with it off, I forgot about it again! I think in future I'll try and do any open sections with environmental noise.
Anyway, thanks again for your review, glad to hear you enjoyed your time!
and find out what's up with her.. err cat xDD it was a funny game. i loved the voice acting and the mouth animations, the village is easy to navigate and intuitive. it's a well polished game, had fun playing it. great job !
Hi @dobrila, thank you very much for playing and for your kind feedback. I’m so glad you found it funny and fun to play! :D
I really enjoyed this game. The graphics looked really impressive for a 48h game.
Hey @pxldev, thanks a lot for playing and for your kind feedback :)
I really enjoyed the humor in the game and the ridiculous reactions I got from everyone. You did so much in such little time, it was really impressive. I think having some amount of post processing or adjusting the default lighting a little would've helped polished the look quite a bit. The music got a little bit repetitive as I went around town, but I really appreciated that there was a volume slider in the game.
Hi @tanatb, thanks very much for playing and for your kind feedback. Much appreciated :)
I'm stuck in front of the door. None key are currently working :sob: I tried keyboard and gamepad, none worked
Hey @curtis-pelissier, really sorry to hear you've had trouble. :frowning2: When we first launched we had a fairly common issue with the controls not working, we thought we'd narrowed it down. I removed usage of XInput entirely, and it seemed to help, but sadly it does still seem to be causing problems in rare cases. Unfortunately I've not managed to find a PC where I can recreate the issue, and I'm somewhat at a loss. If I do have a breakthrough and update it / release a 1.1, I'll send you a message though! Thanks for the (attempted!) play!
Amazing entry, so much content for just 72 hours, great job! However, as some people mentioned, the game was't working for me on my PC and I used my laptop instead (which worked perfectly fine). I see that you struggle with that issue a lot, sadly cannot help :/ But at least it worked on my laptop. Anyways, I love the sense of humour in the game, the music was nice anf fitting and it was overally very enjoyable. Despite the technical issue I went with 5/5 ^^
Hi @dane-tesla, thanks so much for playing and for your kind feedback :D And thank you for giving it a go on your laptop after you got the dreaded PC bug - we really appreciate it. Glad you enjoyed the humour and had fun!
@curtis-pelissier @dane-tesla I believe we have now fixed this!! It appears all of this was caused by the dictonary of dialogue lines, which was using current culture for the ID lookups - this was causing an exception when it went to retrieve the first line of dialogue, and although this was being handled, the catch was causing it to skip past the section which re-enabled the controls...
What a cool take on the theme! Great job - I can see the time and effort that was put into this! I thought the main gameplay was a little slow at times, but the story and the humor kept me engaged. I thought the character style was really unique, and the voiceover and music set a really nice vibe. Great job!
Hey @conrad123, thanks a lot for playing and for your kind feedback. I’m so pleased you enjoyed our game :D
I loved the humor, the storyline, the voiceacting and the music. Everything about this game is so calming and lighthearted, great job!
It was hilarious to solve problems by creating new ones.
I do have some small gripes with the game. Maybe the town was a bit too big (resulting in slightly too long walking sequences), maybe the main character could be voiced as well (it felt a bit out of place given that all the NPCs actually talked) and the graphics might have been a bit better (even if it fit very well and I liked the little facial expressions the NPCs made, that was a really nice touch).
Overall, though, I really enjoyed the trip to this little town. It seemed so alive and peaceful with all the people minding their own business, great work!
I wonder if there were multiple ways to solve the individual tasks?
By the way, I had the same problem as some of the others - I couldn't get past the initial cutscene while playing on Windows. I heard the door slam and that was it. No dialogue was played and I couldn't move. It worked fine on Linux, that's how I was able to play. It's a pity, because this game really deserves to be played
This is what I have in `C:\Users\***\AppData\LocalLow\Baffled Crab\Tall Tales\Player.log`, hopefully that helps.

@mvasko2 :open_mouth:
Thank you *-so-* much for posting this log, this is actually the first time I've seen any debug information for this!! I'd already narrowed this down by user to a culture/locale issue, I can't believe I'd overlooked float.Parse in the lipsyncing... I've just checked in a new version which uses invariant culture to parse these values, I don't suppose I could trouble you for a quick retest at all?
(I'm definitely going to add an old PC set up on different culture settings for testing next time!!)
Thanks also for your review, really glad you enjoyed it, and all great points on the critique. The size of the town definitely got away from me in the end, there was a moment on the Saturday when I really realised it and I wish now I'd found the time to redesign things a little - duly noted for next time!
@octopoid It looks like you've fixed the issue, I could play on Windows just fine now. Glad I could help
@mvasko2 Ahh, that's amazing, thank you :grinning: I'd nearly given up hope on tracking this down!!
I might actually be able to concentrate on a v1.1 now!
Nice! I loved the story to this :) The voice acting was great too!
If you're working on a post-jam version, you could maybe rearrange things so the farm part is closer to the start so that it's easier to find. It's a little hidden away. I also felt the world was really big, you could maybe scale things down a bit.
Oh and FYI, the game ran fine for me on Windows.
Also, these two just silently witnessed the destruction that happened here and stared blankly at me  destruction.PNG
Hi @jezzamon, thanks for playing and for your kind feedback :D Thanks also for your suggestions - they’re definitely things we’re planning to address in our post-jam version. Sorry about the blank staring eyes on the NPCs - we didn’t get a chance to add a less severe ‘resting’ expression!
Haha, I didn't mind the expression. In that screenshot they look the correct level of shocked, at least :P
@jezzamon haha yeah, definitely xD
Wow this game is awesome! I didn't get through all of but it is hard to imagine how you managed to make in jam!
Very well done! And RTX technology on truck's wheels is impressive
Thanks @kpded, really pleased to hear you enjoyed it - and glad you like the wheels! haha
After the model of the truck came out as such an artistic masterpiece I felt it only appropriate to make it truly photorealistic 😂
I loved the well and the cola machine situation, the voiceacting is also very cool, Great job! :D
Hi @osel13, thanks very much for playing and for your kind feedback :D
Fantastic game. Great job!
Hey @gildar76, thank you for the play and review!
