LD48 — Deeper and deeper

I really love the idea, but the execution is lacking. As someone who often goes for the narrative fiction angle, I know how much time and effort the content creation part takes, and unfortunately, the fact that you didn't have that time really shows. A lot of sentences ended without punctuation or continued rather nonsensically into the next three "sentences," and some bits of writing just made very little sense.

I also think having to type every word, even when there were no choices, was a bit of a pain. I'd rather have been able to read the text and select a choice when it arose. I know you were going for a bit of a typing game, but since there was nothing else to the typing mechanic besides just continuing the story, I don't think it added anything for me.

Audio-wise, the typing noise was fine (which is good considering you hear it constantly), but the chime in the background got annoying very quickly.

That all said, I do think this is a really cool idea, and if you do come back to polish the gameplay and flesh out the narrative, I'd be excited to give it another go.

The Red Crystal by Bastienre4 2021-04-30T04:36:08Z

This was a nice little experience. Some good spooky vibes going on. Enjoyed the visual effects and most of the audio, though there was a wobbly bass sound that happened every once in a while that felt out of place to me. Movement was a little wonky too, but that wasn't really a problem since there was no running or fighting or anything.

Other than that, I enjoyed some little details like the eyes appearing after you pick up the key as well as the entire ending sequence.

Gotta say, though, I *really* wanted to pick up a pickaxe just because they were lying around.

How deep is this rabbit hole anyway? by snesgaard 2021-04-30T18:45:54Z

Fun and cute. Got to 798m. My strat for the spinning screen was to just hang out in an open area until it was over, which worked until the screen started spinning infinitely. Not sure if the infinite spinning + censor bar at the same time was intended, but it sure killed me effectively!

The 13th Floor by ScalphaMission 2021-05-01T20:36:43Z

Wow, this is a really impressive compo entry. A lot of fun, too! Probably the most time I've put into playing an entry so far just because it was that fun to play. Nice work!

Controlled well, though it would've been nice to be able to aim up and down, especially in later levels when the flying enemies start getting out of hand.

I thought there'd be ending (even just a "You survived!") since there was a floor countdown, but it just kept going. Called it quits on floor -2.

Time to think by IC Rainbow 2021-05-13T14:58:15Z

This is a pretty unique take on the theme and very cool that it's written in Haskell, but unfortunately there isn't much of a "game" here. It may have been more fun if you'd had more time for content creation. I see that I can add my own content to the stuff/ folder, but it's not super fun to "discover" content I just wrote.

This is such a good take on the theme. Made me want to clean up my $HOME directory.

My main gripe is that the gameplay itself was pretty dull. Shoot, back up, shoot, back up, over and over, so there was no real challenge or engagement in it. Plus, hits were lacking any feeling of impact. That said, the novelty of zooming around my filesystem and fighting my own files made it fun enough for a short experience.

Also, I made the mistake of adventuring in the /nix/store, which has about 69,000 directories in it. As you might imagine, that "level" was a slideshow

Mullet Time by Lajbert 2021-04-30T05:10:05Z

This game was pretty fun once I got the hang of it, but as you already know from other comments, having to quit and restart the game (and click through the tutorial text) every time I died got old *very* fast. Movement--aside from the jetpack, which was a little too eager to rocket you into the ceiling spikes--felt pretty good.

It also ran fine through Wine which was nice.
