is there a hosted version ? I only find the link to download the windows version on itch
Awesome idea! Bugs and lack of payoff aside, the underlying concept is solid. The gameplay was a great way to get me invested into the story - choosing a path, drawing whatever I wanted, and the first-person narration. Loved the mood, too. I would definitely be interested in playing a finished version!
@lokt02 @dhim Thanks for the feedback. After some debugging i found out WebGL does not like some of the rendermagic i'm doing, so i took the WebGL version down. So it's Windows only until I can figure out how to build it to WebGL without visual artifacts.
@afroant Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it!
Ok, @ me if you find a way. I am on a Mac so the windows build is not good for me. Good luck with the ratings!
Typing is always a fun challenge, and your method of choosing words works great and is very unintrusive! Background sound was a bit jarring at times, but overall great atmosphere! Nice work!
Really cool! I really enjoyed the back and forth creating the story. Kind of like a game of "yes, and". Great job!
The idea is very inspiring! Enjoyed playing with narrative. It was also satisfactory to play with typography. Good work!
I don't know if this was more or less fun to me for having accidentally skipped the part where you draw the symbol. One could definitely analyze some kind of theme in the series of blank pages at the end which the writer believed had symbols on them.
At the end you call the story unfinished, but I think the length was about right, the mechanics didn't exactly need much in-depth exploration.
Any case, good sense of humor, the sound sets a great mood which the setting of the story holds up, the graphics are simple and better for it. 'ppreciate ya bud.
Amazing thanks on the theme. Great job! I really enjoyed playing this unconventional game! I believe that in the future it might become a multi-choice storytelling game with even more additional action, like drawing this symbol.
I like the experience the game gives I can imagine myself sitting in front of a typing machine fairly easily. It works well. I also like when you participate in a story just by typing. My big complain is that there is conflict between the desire to read what all can happen and my typing speed. In other words, I type slow and I wished that I could just pick the right words (by clicking a button) it could be much easier. Hm... interesting, I just realized that in text adventure games words are building blocks of a game, but in this concept letters are important too.
Hello @p0l4r
You suggested your game for our stream yesterday and were in Chat but I don't know if you managed to see it.
I uploaded our gameplay on youtube so you can catch it later: https://www.youtube.be/watch?v=KLwrzc7DkDo&t=7588s
This is a really pleasing typing game and I really enjoyed it. I'm curious about the other options and it gave me desire to come back to it and play it again, taking my time, off-stream.
Your game was
Amazing Relaxing Suspenseful
@togis Thanks a lot for the great feedback! I was watching the stream but had to go do something else, when i came back the stream was over but i saw in the chat that you had played my game. I went back and watched it and it was really fun watching you interact with the story! Obviously it's not the best stream-game but i got a lot out of watching your reactions to the game. Thanks a lot!
I also pressed Enter too quickly and missed drawing the symbol. All in all, this was a really neat idea. I kind of like how it's kind of like a typing trainer combined with a choose your own adventure novel. The idea of only seeing the letters you write, not receive, adds to the mystery and atmosphere. I even thought the chime added something to the game; that, along with the text-based nature reminded me slightly of the game 'Cultist Simulator'.
I really love the idea, but the execution is lacking. As someone who often goes for the narrative fiction angle, I know how much time and effort the content creation part takes, and unfortunately, the fact that you didn't have that time really shows. A lot of sentences ended without punctuation or continued rather nonsensically into the next three "sentences," and some bits of writing just made very little sense.
I also think having to type every word, even when there were no choices, was a bit of a pain. I'd rather have been able to read the text and select a choice when it arose. I know you were going for a bit of a typing game, but since there was nothing else to the typing mechanic besides just continuing the story, I don't think it added anything for me.
Audio-wise, the typing noise was fine (which is good considering you hear it constantly), but the chime in the background got annoying very quickly.
That all said, I do think this is a really cool idea, and if you do come back to polish the gameplay and flesh out the narrative, I'd be excited to give it another go.
I really liked this one ! Sure typing is quite tedious, but it got me invested in "my side" of the story. I think with a bit of clever interaction design this concept could go a very long way !
I usually only play games that have a browser version, but this one looked so intriguing I decided to make an exception, and I'm really glad I did!
I think it was a clever concept. Game writing takes ages, and making a bunch of alternate words/sentence fragments that can fit together is no mean feat. Considering how limited your time was and all the other game mechanics you had to perfect to pull it off, I think you did a great job.
As to the run on sentences and errors mentioned in the last comment, ideally yes, that's something you'd want to fix. But while one is playing the game it's not like you're going to go back and re-read all the text in its "letter form". And again, considering the time you had I thought it was very coherent.
Adding the symbol was a nice way to add a bit of mystery. And with a bit of time and polish to fully flesh out the story, I think it could be quite a nifty little text game. So well done!
Nice! I actually also made an Epistolary game a while back -- you can check it out at https://ddrkirby.com/games/dear-toki/dear-toki.html if it gives you some ideas to play around with.
The background chimes and noises provided a mysterious/strange vibe. Not what I was expecting but maybe that's sort of what you were going for to go along with the story.
(PS: "receive" is spelled with the 'e' before the 'i', not the other way around)
This was really interesting. The story told was at times a bit surreal and occasionally nonsensical but it did have narrative that held together pretty well. The mood created was nicely ominous.
should not have let me draw the symbol. i was dying laughing at all the pee pees on the paper.
This is a very clever concept for a game. I am impressed with the amount of depth suggested by the choices (don’t tell me if they didn't branch all that much), especially in the time limits of a game jam. Visually this game works really well, I like how connected my typing and the words appearing on the page are. Well done!
I really liked the mood of this game. It reminds me a lot of games by Lucas Pope. The story is told not by a voice narration but by an interesting mechanic. Very nice sound design and art style. I'm a big fan of typing games and the drawing was a nice touch. :)
I actually love this game very much  I agree, the lack of punctuation threw me off a little bit too, but I actually liked that I had to write every word, it made some kind of flow which was easy to follow  Obviously, there could be more - more to story, music, sounds etc., but overall, it was a lot of fun  Great job
