Overall a fun game and cool take, I love the graphics but found that combat is a bit clunky and hard to control, I could not always tell when I would take damage and since damage almost always insta kills very hard to figure out combat
I had to play this because my original idea for the jam was a vampire type game as well. I thought it was pretty good. The dash could have been on a separate button though as it was rather difficult to dodge enemies in such a fast paced action game.

Blood tracker in top corner disappears in full screen. Longest I survived were 53 points. Cool game, nice graphics , thou a little hard to see. Audio is nice :)

@thomas-higgins Thanks for playing! I'm happy you enjoyed the graphics. I do however completely agree that it's difficult to tell if you've taken damage. I was planning to add a "hurt" sound to make damage more obvious, but as always the deadline got to me before I had time. :sweat_smile: The damage would definitely also need some balancing.
@tengusheath Ah, interesting! Our games actually seem fairly similar in the overall concept, so I guess we're both lucky we ended up going for separate themes. :wink: I'll definitely be trying out your entry later. Good point about the dash as well. Since it's pretty much the only means of dodging the enemies, it would likely have benefitted from being on a separate button. Thanks for the feedback!
@labete Thanks for the info, I think it should be solved now. About the graphics: yeah, in retrospect I can see that they're *way* too dark. That's the unfortunate side effect of working with a game in a dark room - you don't know how it will look in the daylight. :)
I thought it was beautiful, the dark colours contrasted very well with the red blood. The attacking animation also looks great, but it was very difficult. The wolves seemed to almost always do more damage than I got for killing them, so I ended up running around looking for bunnies instead. I managed 94 that way

Really like it nice job !
This was a really cool idea, and I like the presentation a lot. It seems very Hyper Light Drifter-inspired, which is never a bad thing.
Only criticism is that I was a little confused on exactly what tone you were going for. This is a very dark atmospheric game, but the concept of a hemophiliac vampire reads as more of a punchline than anything else (it was also the exact subject of some other comedic entries I've seen on here.)
Really excited to see what you produce in the future!

First love what you did with the graphics. Excellent and moody.
As you didn't opt out of audio I have to say that the lack of sound did really hurt enjoyment a lot. Even some stock sfx glued in would have made a big difference.
Controls were good. I especially loved the combo attack as that felt 'right' and pixel blood never gets old to me. The animation was surprisingly great as well. Wolves hurt though, so I'd love some more defensive options, since I felt I had to kill or be die (which may have been intended!), and killing them wasn't exactly easy.

@tompudding Thanks for the compliments on the visuals! :) I agree fully that the wolves ended up way too difficult to battle - even for me! In retrospect I think the damage of all enemies probably should have been tuned down a bit, perhaps in favor of a quicker constant rate of loss.
@minaus Thank you!
@charred-axolotl Your point about the concept being more like a punchline is really quite helpful, you managed to articulate something that subconsciously bugged me throughout the development: whether I should make the game moody, or hone in on the 'fun'/'funny' factor. In the end I agree that the latter probably would have been a better fit, at least with the subject I chose. Thanks for playing! :)
@terabyte Thanks! :)
@cyzaine Hm, that's strange - there is actually audio to be experienced in the game. I'm wondering whether this is a problem on my part or yours. Would you mind sharing what system you're playing on? (or any other technological details which may be relevant) Regarding the difficulty, I'm totally in agreement that the wolves packed too big of a punch. Overall, the game ended up more imbalanced than I'd have liked, and it definitely would have benefitted from more playtesting. Nonetheless, I'm happy you liked the graphics and controls! Thanks for playing! :)
Like the feel of the game, especially the sound effects and wolf graphics. The landscape could be made more versatile by varying the sizes of the trees.

Very nice game feel! Perhaps can use a subtle camera shake :)

I had a lot of fun playing! The way the blood flew out in the opposite direction of the strike and flew back into me was really cool! Was proud of getting 128 points :D My main problem was trying to find enemies to slay, i got ended by the wolves in the end since they were so hard! Great job though :)

Graphics and mood look great, and a really funny and interesting idea! Combat felt satisfying, wished there were a few more enemies, maybe smaller packs but more frequent as towards the end I was just bleeding out without a chance of survival. I suppose that is the idea of the game though, but one thing that I felt could've kept me playing longer. Overall a cool idea and well polished game!

Amazing compo entry, combat felt really smooth and dynamic. I also liked how the sound effects combined with the minimalist drums soundtrack.

Cool game! The slashing is super satisfying :) I love the art, especially for wolves. I got 152. Good job!

Satisfying combat. It was often hard to find anything to hunt though.
I love the style of this game! The combat and movement feels very cool. I found it very difficult though, I died very quickly to the wolves a lot. Not sure if I'm just bad or if it's difficult :sweat_smile:
