Great game! I made it to the level where you had to make jumps off the bouncy pads through a narrow path in between the fire, but wasn't able to beat it. The music is great and the snowball feels great to control. I like how you ease players into harder stuff slowly - the difficulty curve is very gradual and well done. There are also an impressive number of levels!

sergio-nikol 2022-04-06 09:01

Awesome game! Music is not to loud and in theme. Great visuality of snowball health. Nice graphic.

okamit 2022-04-06 17:34

Cute game with interesting mechanics! I really like the different concepts introduced, as well as the mechanics such as jumping by throwing yourself, wall jumping etc. I would move jump to another button though, such as spacebar, so you wall-jump back and forth between different walls easier.

Great work!

stephenwhoskins 2022-04-07 13:51

@charlesschar Many thanks for all the kind words! And we're glad that you liked it!

stephenwhoskins 2022-04-07 13:53

Thank you @okamit ! I'm glad that you're on Team Spacebar too, as so am I. =P

stephenwhoskins 2022-04-07 14:05

Thanks @sergio-nikol ! I'm glad that I didn't make the music too loud. I was honestly concerned about that since NES audio can be a bit loud. =)

The game movement honestly feels really good. the graphics and sound are simple and do the job. seeing the snow pile up when you die repeated times was a really nice detail. I got stuck at the level with the tight jump above the fire though, it took me a bit to realize that i had to use the mouse to throw the balls rather than using the up and down keys. besides that, the game design was pretty clever, a good use of the game's mechanics.

gatlink 2022-04-07 15:51

I really liked your game, and I went pretty far before I remembered I was supposed to be working... I did a good chunk of levels without using the mouse and got stuck a while when it became necessary, maybe an early level that forces the player to use it would be nice (as I feel you made levels to introduce pretty much every other mechanic I feel it's missing.) Another thing I wish was in the game is an arrow or something to show me in which direction I'm going to toss when I'm using the mouse. Anyway, those are really small grievances, I think this game has the potential to become a full fledged game, the core mechanics are here and already feel good, it only needs more levels, and more gameplay elements like the bouncers. Graphically I didn't really enjoy the levels, the backgrounds were a bit empty and the tileset too repetitive and a bit blend, but the character was cute as hell, especially the way it rolls on the ground! You put the effort into what counts, which is so important when you have so little time. Good job all around, this is a great entry!

Really challenging game, but also very fun one at that! I really love the dash mechanic in this game, though i'm still stuck at a certain level.ld50_9W9P0N8RBU.png

Glad to see I'm not the only one that didn't realize you could use the mouse for more precise aiming. I'm almost wondering if this hurts the game more than it helps, though. Some of the jumps require really precise controls and it feels like luck whether or not I'll get the mouse in the right spot.

Overall though, this was really fun. The music is nice, the graphics are serviceable, and the mechanic feels really good to control. Even though I could just fly around a lot of the earlier levels, it felt amazing to do so. Would love to see this turned into a bigger project.

mar3k 2022-04-08 12:51

Great platformer with a nice feature of the main character getting smaller the more it jumps, which is really cool. The music is cool, the art is nice, overall very good entry.

itskdog 2022-04-08 22:13

Nice platformer with good jumping and other features such as your snowball getting smaller. Wasn't sure about using the mouse for tossing or if there was a difference between that and jumping. The sounds and music were great.

stephenwhoskins 2022-04-08 23:33

@locke8 Many thanks! I'm glad that you enjoyed it!

stephenwhoskins 2022-04-08 23:41

@gatlink Lol. I hope we didn't get you in trouble!

I was actually thinking the same thing for the arrow indicator and for having more levels that introduce the mouse.

Many thanks for the kind words and we're glad that you enjoyed your experience! We want this to be a full fledged game as well. Maybe add some world maps, more/better cinematics, a lot more levels, etc, etc. =D

Title screen jam got me pumped, the music and game did not slow down that momentum! Super polished, really nice selection of levels and it's just really fun to play.

leekanarchism 2022-04-09 17:06

Really cool idea! Enjoyed the platforming mechanics, very interesting! Did get quite difficult after a while, and eventually got stuck running the gauntlet across a lot of fire. Having a bit of a guide / compass for the mouse movement would help players to learn which angles work for which situations.

Nice work!

arttu-halonen 2022-04-10 09:01

The movement animation on the Snow Dude was really smooth and detailed, nice level of polish. Solid platformer with a neat movement gimmick! I'm not sure if controlling the dash with the mouse cursor made it easier or more difficult. At least in the start I had some problems meaningfully aiming with the mouse while moving with WASD. Overall a solid entry, keep it up!

sacredbacon 2022-04-10 21:22

I love this, the controls are great, super cute art and fast paced music. This is a great platformer. ~~Game kept crashing for me after the first bouncy level readout says (GR_D3D_Device -> CreateTexture2D at line 623 in file \TexturesM.cpp) May be that I'm on a Windows VM~~ (use wine for linux), but from the screen shots I can tell the game just gets better. Very fun with a great sound track. Thanks for the game!

superpokeunicorn 2022-04-10 22:04

Really fun game! I like the idea of a platformer where you have a limited amount of jumps. Having the character shrink after jumping adds an extra interesting wrinkle to the gameplay. Being able to aim your jump in different directions was neat, although it wasn't really useful in the first few levels. Also, it could sometimes be hard to aim when near the bottom of the screen, since the position of my cursor relative to the character would change as the camera moved. Regardless, I still managed to beat the quite difficult final level and had a great time. Nice work!

stephenwhoskins 2022-04-11 23:22

Hey @sacredbacon ! We never tried testing in a Windows VM. But we just made a new build that we think will work for you. Let's us know if this build works! Many thanks for playing the game!

sacredbacon 2022-04-12 02:12

@stephenwhoskins still ran into issues on the VM. So i tried running with wine instead and it worked, and I'm so glad it did.

Addendum to original feedback: Incredible game, solid platforming, the later levels really made you feel like you've mastered the controls. Great level design. Challenging, but very rewarding.

2022-04-11-220339_3640x2173_scrot.png Thanks so much for trying to solve that too. Means a lot!

slecornu 2022-04-12 21:31

Screenshot 2022-04-12 at 22.31.02.png This is what happen when I open the game on mac, it's a shame because this looks awesome!

zliebowitz 2022-04-12 21:54

@slecornu If you haven’t already, please try copying the .app out of the .dmg and launching that way. I think that should resolve your issue.

zimny11 2022-04-12 22:31

Super fun and well design platformer! I got stuck on a level with fire corridor with bouncing platform on top. Good job with designing game mechanic. Also, the art style of snow dude is really cute, and the music is awesome! Great job!

djtequila 2022-04-13 17:54

Really addictive game, gives me Kirby vibes (come to think of it, that might be the music and round main character that can jump a lot lol). Those later levels are HARD. I like that you can shrink yourself to fit in small places. An indicator for the direction you'll be sent could be nice.

ronanrory 2022-04-14 01:59

This entry gets *REALLY hard,* I would argue it's too difficult! It's impressive to see how many levels this game has, but with it's **immense** difficulty, I was just wondering when it would *end.* I'm a minority in that I spend more than 3 minutes on a game, trying to reach it's conclusion; the problem there is that people aren't going to see a good portion of the levels, and if they do, they *SURE* aren't going to see it to the end with the difficulty.

Also, I cannot possibly envy you enough. I remember coming up with a similar "snowball propels itself, making it smaller" idea, but this is just SO MUCH BETTER! Mine was basically a prototype set in space where the entire screen rotated à la Sonic the Hedgehog. I knew after my time with this jam (couldn't come up with a *DAMN* idea for the life of me) that I would envy the other entries, but this one takes the entire cake!

Music's not bad at all, if a bit repetitive. The controls are alright, but clicking in the *opposite* direction to where I'm headed is rather awkward, leading to much frustration. I *VERY* much agree with @djtequila that an aiming reticle would make this game MUCH more palatable.

Graphics are fine.

Being so jealous of you probably shows how I think of your entry. You did a great job, and sure had a **_SIGNIFICANTLY_** better time than me! Bravo!

sheldonzs 2022-04-17 04:17

Very cute game, and great polish! The opening had me laughing and excited to play. I love the mechanics of using snowballs to propel him and shrinking him with each jump. The levels do get pretty hard pretty fast, some of them are a little unfair requiring multiple very tight jumps, but overall a very enjoyable entry!

antsa 2022-04-21 00:15

Interesting platformer with. The levels started easy and simple while bringing in mechanics as the game went on. The snow staying on the walls is a nice touch. I think the mouse movement was a bit difficult, its hard to remember where my cursor is relative to the character at any given time. Maybe some sort of arrow pointing from the snowball to the direction it would dash into would have helped?

Got stuck to the bouncy pad level with narrow flappy bird styled jumps. A bit too many timed jumps for me :P
