Maniac: Total Darkness by Ulixava 2012-12-17T17:40:00
Really nice game! Not sure if it was intended that you can not walk for a moment after you stab, but got used to that real quick. Too bad there was no sound (except for that one effect:P)

A death sound or animation would really help get you more in to the game i think
Very nice game! it would be nice to see a score while playing!
This game is pretty fun to play, seems made for touch screen. Some small comments tho:
I can allready hit an enemy before it is in view with the bullets i collect health with. Also the other way around, if an enemy is dead he still can kill me (may be intended)
also i did not find a way to restart with out refreshing
but i really liked the game play
When I restarted it did not fully resest
not sure if i had any influence on the game
Nice game but I agree with the one above about it being nice to see the results of your actions
@oakbox, thanks for testing, quiting should be possible so it might run buggy on linux, do you have an other machine you can test it on to see if it is different there?
@bemmu
haha i will take that as a compliment!
Thanks All!
@sanderman
I will not spoil all, but if you follow the rhythm of the music you may find the best start time easier
Good game, froze my browser (FF@OSX) for a long time when openin tho'
Got stuck with the car on the roof and later on I got stuck inside
I like the fact that cats don't die falling down:P
Needs Java 7, won't run on mac without it
all Platforms including source point to the same 42Mb Zip
Please put instructions on how to run this, it is a python program, but i get this error tryinbg to run it from the terminal

got stuck in a wall twice in the 2nd level because i was in between a wall and a round white guy
but nice idea!
Maybe you can compile it to Java 6
got stuck with this error
Traceback (most recent call last):

I got stuck above the view somehow
could not see the bottom part of my screen,
Really nice game, the cops had no houses left but nothing happened, I thought I beat the game
Could not find the exit without cheating, expected some variety like monsters or change in scenery. Also a dark soundtrack would have made this creepy.
Jumping was too hard, and too little energy, I would like either more enegry or a level designed so it is possible to move through without getting hit, so you can stealth.
But graphics are nice!
Nice game, a bit short and easy though, sound was a bit soft, But liked the atmosphere
Also Works in FireFox
I finished this game without hitting any one or getting hit :P Also found it a bit strange the princess would just follow me, does not really feel like kidnapping
But graphics were nice
Took a while to find out what I was doing, you have to repeatedly press arrow keys in stead of holding them
A key to speed up the text would be nice if you play a second time
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no lwjgl in java.library.path
On OSX
Really goot got 361 will play this again!
Too bad there's no audio
When I found out what i was doing I really laughed
I really like the Graphics and it was fun playing it! Funny thing: the sound of the rolling.
Works on OSX.
Please make text go faster I have only been waiting this whole game. To the point where I just do something else and check if the text is done, but then I cannot follow the story
Really like the game mechanics! and nice created levels!
I get this error on OSX Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no lwjgl in java.library.path
so maybe you can include that?
Yes the -D trick works, maybe put it on top
Fun! I think I found a goat
The explosions and all take a bit too long, I spent more time waiting flying controlless through the air then driving, but funny game
On OSX the executable says date modified April 2 2012?
Really nice this one. Quite difficult too!
Hmm no OSX too bad, shouldn;t be too hard to port
Could not get it to run on OSX and the framework is for windows only is it not?
going to play this later because my MacBook does not have right click
I get this error on OSX when startin launch.sh from the terminal
launch.sh

nice game, lowscores only work after first play, and i expected ESC to take my out of the level finished screen
First play i got killed and the game freezed. Second time i killed the enemy but I had to wait before i was down. Idea is good tho'
Lots and lots of unskippable text
overal nice tho'
won't run on windows 7
Its a bit buggy in OSX10.8 (flickering startscreen)
You can start it from the terminal, by typing
cd [folder]
java -jar SimpleWorld.jar
Also I was not able to place blocks, and got stuck multiple times
But it runs, and i liked the style
could you maybe compile to java 6 for OSX?
could you provide a java 6 version for OSX?
Maybe add in the description you can move around with WASD
Does not work with my mackboosk OSX10.8 java 6
Best game I played yet, very easy but entertaining mechanic (one might even say ... minimalist)
Good job
BTW for those on OSX10.8 in the terminal
type
cd [folder]
java -jar OktumBoktum_Desktop.jar to start
Nice game
Beautiful beautiful game, could hardly stop playing!
Solid game, nice to create an artwork while playing (my game does that too)
More levels would've been nice
Nice concept, did not fully understand what I was doing tho'
Nice graphics, took a while for me to find out which team i was on and how to get started. Then after having some fun for a while, I got the idea it would go on infinitly,
Also i heard a sound which told me something bad happened and but I could not find my castle anymore, (scroll did not work Firefox/OSX/Webversion)
Very nice game! feels very smooth, could not find out how to get past the 2nd level tho, used the shiv to kill the monster but could not get the key behind the two potatoes
Haha very funny game, not really possible to use any strategy or skill. But still had some laughs
Can you give more info?
If it was an error when clicking outside a button, I fixed it.
Thanks all for the compliments!
thanks
Innovation 5 stars, nice concept.
I think you guys accidently got the wrong theme :P (Bieber 4Evah <3)
Fun game, Too bad there was no music
My girlfriends name is Eva, but this one is also nice ;)
Very enjoyable game, sound is nice, graphics are sufficient and game play is quite original. If you were to continue on this idea I would spend some time balancing the pace of the game. Very Well done!
Where is the source?
Nice art, the female bird is a bit demanding ;). Also when you picked an incorrect item it is not nice that you first have to walk back. Overall a fun game!
Very solid game, good level design too
I'm very much intrigued by the fact that it is a computer generated game (if I understand correctly). Sadly the game itself is not very interesting
Nice graphics, the sound of peewee started to nerve me after a while.
I got stuck in a place after going through two holes where there were no keys, and only locked doors. Music is nice tho
Very nice looking game, and nice sound creates a good atmosphere the mouse movement was a bit too sensitive for me.
sadly cannot get it to work, was very curious
Nice concept, the difficulty of the randomly generated levels differed greatly.
Haha, you're to fast, was still setting up
Thanks for the feedback all. I added a guide for the third stage that should help a bit.
Thanks for the good words all. That level 3 tho....
Nice models, but although i like the upgrades visually it gets too easy in the end
Hey, nice atmosphere, a bit too linear for my taste. Also there was something of with the click detection on Firefox OSX for me, and the fire became upside down;)
Hey, I could not run it on OSX 10.10

I liked the idea very much. Some tips for a better gameplay expecience in my opinion: The bullet could maybe return not always 180 degrees, but reflect in an angle depending on from where you shoot, otherwise you always get hit if you do not move. Also the first two levels I could just walk past every mouse, and in comparison the level after was very hard. But the idea is very good, and the art also worked well
The painting, and mixing of colours is nice. The mouse is way to sensitive, so I could not hit anything, also I would've liked to steer with WASD so i could am with my right hand.
Wow. I did not expect much, but it was a lot of fun and a creative idea. Well done!
On mac I get this error:

I could run it on OSX. I like how you put to gether something so quicky, also probably on of the smallest filesizes. Sadly it was not all very clear what I had to the. I beat the typing thing (hack), but after that I did not know what to do, and died.
Nice idea, nice atmosphere. The collision with the energy pickups was a bit vague, could not understand why I did or did not get it at some times. Had fun playing tho.
Nice concept. aiming with mouse while jumping makes the camera move is a bit hard. Also the second color didn't add anything to the mechaning until where I got.
But good idea and execution!
Hey, just a note: using a song you did not make yourself is not allowed in the compo.
At first I did not get it, but when I did it was a bit more fun. Too simple though, low poly models look good, although also very simple
Loved it, good concept, fun to play. Took a little while to figure out what to do, and the controls were not very fluid, but all to gether one of the best I played yet!
got 650. Nice new concept. wonder if it is easier to play with two.
It works for me on OSX 10.10.2!
I normally do not play text adventures, but I had the feeling it was too linear, it did not feel like a game too me.
Hey, sadly I could not find out how to do any thing, I bought some stuff and tried to build solar panels, at the right jobs came in to view, but nothing seemed to happen. It's a shame because probably there is some interesting stuff in a tycoon game. Visuals are very good tho.
Certainly not the best in its genre, but still fun to play for a while. Not very creative though
Yeah, thanks, a bit of time pressure would be a good idea!
Yeah i noticed this too late (that the photos flash for a split second when spawning, this is off course a bug)
Looks very nice, nice idea also, but controls not very good, and sadly no music, couldve done with some annoying too loud young peoples music ;)
Crashes on startup on OSX 10.10.5
An exception has occured, but exception handling has been disabled in this build. If you are the developer of this content, enable exceptions in your project's WebGL player settings to be able to catch the exception or see the stack trace.
When I dragged a blue one to the bin.
Was not clear to me what I could do. What is the blue bar for, why do I walk so slow. Music and atmosphere was good.
Very funny Idea. Graphics nice. The game over came too unexpected for me every time
Nice Game, the stealth bar grew to quick to react, but solid controls, and nice idea!
Same as bigbuggames
it seems you put a lot of effort in it but is not clear what to do.
Nice game. Something strange happens when you hold space too long ( you rocket upwards ). But fun to play for a while
I didn't know immediately if I can eat the bullets or not, simple but fun game. I think with less HP it would be more fun
nice graphics, I liked the zooming, it gives a constant feeling of hurry. Game play not very responsive/flowing, but well done!
Nice art, game was not super fun to me, didn't have the feeling i could do much more than just build as much as possible. Some small things that could be better: thousands separators with the big numbers, cursor got invisible. I do appreciate that you made a strategy game!
Strange experience. Something really grabbed me, but also a lot of small things put me off. Sadly it was too slow and too difficult so I couldn't get very far, but I really wanted to know how it would've ended. Sometimes it was a bit frustrating that I could not eat quickly enough, also the first 2 levels were already quite difficult. Maybe it would've been more fun to not restart to level 1, but to the level where you died. But nice effort!
One of the best I've played yet. Nice atmosphere, and good use of both themes.
Very good game! Nice style with the art and music, also nice that the platforms continue moving in the menu. The only point of improvement I can think of is a bit more difficulty slope in the genereation of the platforms/speed, and maybe a good background chiptune. Also nice name, my name is Jerre :p
Same as wizzardmaker says, but nice humor too
I like the mechanic, but it is a bit slow too play, and then all of a sudden gets very difficult. Also just as a small note, some people (like me ;, with a mac book pro) ) do not have a right mouse button, so think about offering an alternative.
I got the following error after 3 or 4 jumps:
main.lua:193:Attempt to use destroyed body
Traceback
[C]:in function applyForce
main.lua:193:in function handle_input
main.lua:68: in function update

Art is very nice, conecpt is also good, but it got a bit repetitive after a while, didn't feel I had a lot of choices to make anymore, but nicely done!
Got stuck two times, sadly, because it looks very promising. First time I got stuck on the right pillar just after killing the prince. Second time I threw the head, but no clue what to do next. A restart button would've been nice, but it might be that I overlooked something.
Haha nice small finished concept. The randomness gets annoying quite fast, but at least you finished an original game!
Fun idea, but as said, not clear what was happening. Also the screenshots look nice, so I think you made some nice assets, but they're also hard too see. Nice little game!
Very well done. Nice build up/tutorial. An indicator as to how long I would still belong to an element would have been nice, and sometimes a got stuck between enemies and a wall which is not nices. But one of the best ideas and implementations I played this LD!
Very well done! Graphics are very nice, and it feels like a very finished games. Controls could be tighter, and camera too. Found 65 credits, and got stuck in a house (I had no character, so couldn't leave).
Haha nice tong twister in the description here!
Nicely made game. Controls were a bit slow to react. Graphics quite ok. A better difficulty curve would've made it more enjoyable to me.
Press any button to continue doesn't work for me on OSX btw.
Very difficult to steer with only mouse. Would've been nicer if the vehicle shifted into the chosen shape. Congrats on finishing a game tho!
I really tried to play this, installed all the dependencies etc, but got this:
Traceback (most recent call last):

File "fwm_main.py", line 32, in __init__
pygame.display.set_icon(pygame.image.load(icon_path))
pygame.error: Couldn't open /assets/ico.png
on mac btw
Please put "Windows" in the download link :), so I don't have to find out myself I can't play it on OSX
Your download link says source, but is seems to be the Windows executable..
Nice graphics!
Could play it on mac. Looks nice, but couldn't figure out what to do :(. Just walked around a bit, and shifted shapes haha.
Nice concept, but controls are not so good, I guess more gravity and more power on jumps would give a less floaty feeling, and more control. Also the shape changes did not influence the game play very much, from the description I expected much larger changes. Well done soundtrack, an graphichs!
Good title. Didn't manage to finish it. The AI was a bit too strong for me, always ended up surrounded by cats haha
@5imon can you show the error you got? Might need to decrease your security settings?
@5imon thanks for notifying us! It should be fixed now
Cute graphics, cool concept and very addictive gameplay.
Very nice game, played it to the end! Both interesting story, atmosphere and also interesting puzzle mechanics and build-up. Some small spelling mistakes, and a better font would be the only small improvements to think of. The art for the spirits and the characters is especially nice!
Quite a full fletched game, a lot of content. Love the wobbly "monster" animations!
had some issues trying to load the game (mac os, both firefox an chrome), and it seems the retry button doesn't work.
I did manage to play it a couple of runs in the end. I like the base idea, a kind of tower defense/plants vs zombies type game. Very rough around the edges though, in the end I was just panicking and randomly placing stuff until i was game over.
Would be interesting to see where this goes with more time and polish
Very nicely done! Like a mini rts game, changed in a way that it fits the theme! Really good art style, animation and sound for a game jam, also fits together. Good amount of content, played it to the end! One of the best games I rated so far! One thing to improve would be the controls, I think copy a bit from rts'es, maybe a mini map and or arrows to the side of the screen to move camera, also auto follow the active one, maybe select multiple. But I like it that you focused the game jam time on the whole experience from start to finish, instead of focusing on those "details"!
I won (2nd try)! Very well polished game! Art and humor is great! Creative concept as well! Really one of the best/complete entries I've played so far
That's some great art and music! First time round I didn't understand I had to pick up flavor, so I did it a second time now the king is happy!
main character looks and sounds awesome! Good bit of humor as well. Original combination of mechanics: typing and tower defense. The actual monster mechanics could've been a bit more creative too keep the game more varied/interesting perhaps!
I rated you on the LD version, but just wanna say I also played the newer version, and I think it has a lot of potential. The hard part is making it clear what happens, and make it fun to control basically, so a big UX/GUI/Animation challenge, even with basic art I think the animation and layout are more important.
As far as I can see it has great idea and potential with the current mechanics, the lanes, the combining, the positional play, the multifucntionality of the cards. Perhaps it would also be nice to have shorter battles, so it can gradually build in complexity, and have enemies telegraph their moves.
But obviously that's for a full game not a game jam time frame
The art is beautiful! Summon the stuff with keycombinations is interesting, an has a lot of potential (I even accidentally summoned stuff, but that can be used too). Sadly did not fully grasp what the goal was, or what I can do, I tried exploring a bit and managed to take down the candle I think with my flamethrowers
disclaimer: not familiar with the hell diver game(s)
It took a while before I grasped what I was doing and who I was controlling (not the middle guy, and so the HP going down was GOOD!) But once I got that it was a nice game, biggest feedback would be that for people not familiar with the genre it needs more explanation/visual cues. Great fit with the theme as well!
Fun little game! I got 52 max, tried a couple different strats (early or late drop off), but also only found out in the end you get only points for "dropping" off. The description speaks about orange squares which I haven't seen. Controls could be a lot better I think, would make a big difference, together with more "enemy" types. Also the background made it very tough to focus. But the base game idea is fun and has more potential!
