I like the idea, but I found it hard to play.

I like the idea, but I found it hard to play.
Love the animation when you blowup!
I was confused about which one was the target.
The controls where hard for me. sticky then.. jumping then AAaahhh.. oppss.... shot my chicken...nooooo... it's attacking me!!!! Grrr.....
Very complete entry and lots of game play.
@ sfernald - The installer helps with all the XNA prerequisites and so is the easiest. It's also a minimal install. But, I'll see what I can do.
@alistar - Thanks. I completely agree with your assessment. Unfortunately, I lost too much time dealing with some physic engine issues.
Okay guys, I put up a zip that should let you play without the installer.
@JDruid - yep, it's a feature! :D
Good entry, and great concept. Like me, you probably ran out of time to expand the game beyond that.
I'm sorry, but I gave you terrible ratings. I tried to play, but after a while of nothing happening, no matter how I clicked... meh.
I say I'm sorry, because I know how hard it is to get a game to this point, so don't feel bad. Ludum Dare is really really hard, you get better, I promise :D
Good work. Interesting intersection of abilities and tasks.
- Good sounds
- Controls made it very hard to enjoy
- Weird that I can pass through the baddies
Good game. The precision of the map is poorly matched to the sensitivity of the keys. I missed the breakable walls with secret tunnels several times because it wasn't lined up perfectly. As was just stuck, wondering around aimlessly smashing into the wall, feeling hopeless. I found several of the puzzles interesting and challenging. Other's made me feel frustrated and hopeless because they seem pointlessly random and gave me no clue. I was on verge of quitting when I found the door to the last orb. There was nothing that clued me into the fact that the invisible wall was now an invisible door grrrrrrr.
I made a new build using the "Reach" setting and hopefully will fix the HiDef and/or Laptop compatibility problems some people are having.
Oh man, the lack of a floor seem too brutal.
One of the best interfaces. Feedback makes this game stand out, like the noise in the view finder. The ? above the animals heads. Too bad, it gets boring quickly.
Ug, Jack so want to say gushingly nce things, but the controls frustrated me a lot. On the map view, you can't click in certain areas? You can steer in the direction of a sea square until it is discovered? On the dive view, the weird 3D thing frustrated me to no end. Plus, my divers kept dieing even though I'd pressed Q the whole time.
First, I was like... What? Then I was like... Whoa? Then I was like.. Huh? I liked it, but I hated it. I hate the ending mostly.
I'd had the same problem Endurion describes.
Music is the best part. Good start and has a lot of potential. Attractive title screen.
Fun. The start was rough and I didn't understand the difference between scanning a live robot and a dead on at first.
The barrage of bullets is beautiful. Great game, I want to play more! Improved it please!
Great layout. It was fun to think about what was going on in each room. I think giving the player a fog of war effect around the edges would have given it more atmosphere. Key movement annoyed me. It wasn't smooth to transition between directions and would just come to a stop. I wouldn't have figured out the air lock without the picture you posted above. Oh and .rar is meh.
I didn't find the black creature, but I did carpet bomb the entire ocean... a lot.... repeatedly. Eventually I found a deep cave with black jelly fish, but one of them caught me. I just didn't feel like trying again.
Great! What would have been awesome if the color of the shuttle was related to speed and the shape or something related to angle. That way I could see the changes rippling through the line. Faster and more shuttles would have been awesome too!
Cool! I wish I could go up and drill into the core.
I assume you didn't have time to fix some sort of start up bug. Music wasn't bad.
I had fun. I was killed very quickly when I got to the core and that frustrated me because I wasn't sure what came next!
One of my favorites.
Destruction is fun. Leaves me wanting MORE!
I liked it. I wish there was away to make the plants seed and reproduce.
I would like to keep playing but two issues made me give it up:
1. The controls feel backwards in my mind when you are on the underside of the planets. Really messed with my head.
2. The aliens jump-float made shooting them to difficult and I died too much.
I'm enjoying it. Can you rotate pieces? My best was 2190.
I've played a several games now and my best score is 5280. It's a lot of fun!
Great game, well done. I really wanted to hack the level 3 computer!
Impressive. I think the movement controls are hard to use. A "spaceship" model might have worked better. I can't tell you how many bombs went off as I frantically tried to steer away from danger (into even.)
I'm impressed how you used the terrain feature in Unity as a game mechanic.
Thanks everyone for the kind words.
@Andrew - this is a good idea, but ...
@strega - yeah, I wanted it to be hard because I only had the one level.
@Codexus - yeah, I started with ChevyRay's code :)
Art is good. I like that the piece have icons on them that tell me what they do. I don't think I could have played with out that touch.
I just couldn't punch fast enough, a few would get through her e and there.
This is good stuff. The first time I feel through the grate I was surprised and then I felt silly. I felt the drama and pressure several times while climbing through mazes... come on... come on... almost there.. wait! Oh no... wrong turn! Gaaaaa!!!
Music was good.
Bravo for finishing something playable, too bad it is missing the fun element. As my score went up I didn't feel accomplished. When I died I didn't feel connected to the outcome. It is sort of just rolling dice and guessing the number. No risk, no reward, no thinking and no strategy.
Amazing.
Spot on with the theme, gets hard fast.
Graphics and Audio are impressive.
The controls left me confused, I didn't understand my goals and I was surprised by some interactions and the lack of others.
Sadly, it wasn't playable for me. The game runs choppy, the controls where confusing and something weird was going on with the physics. Looks like it could be fun, too bad.
I played on easy and it still felt hard, but I'm not a platformer player usually. So, I didn't finish. Music and sfx were the best part.
Hmmm... Space... thinking about other worlds... but nothing happens... am I stuck or am I suppose to contemplate the existential qualities of the imagination. Observing the fact that my character does not exist in reality but does in my thoughts. The separation between my world and the world in my imagination he in habits but can never leave. Just as I can't inhabit his world.
I love the graphics and animations. Don't see Evolution in there though. Good game.
I've updated to Java Version 7 Update 6 and it still doesn't run, even in the command window. I'd tell you what the error but is disappears faster than I can click the new window.
I'm on Windows 7
Okay, java -version reports: 1.6.0_30 but according to my Programs and Features I also have:
Java 7 Update 6
Java 6 Update 31
JavaFX 2.1.1
I found the directory for Java 7 and forced the command path like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\java" -Djava.library.path=native/windows -jar data.jar
That got it running. I suspect this has something to do with my Windows 7 being 64-bit or something silly on Java/Oracle's part not changing the path when updating to 7.
Great game! I enjoyed it and found it challenging. Impressive work considering the time.
Arggggg... I found the jumping pretty random and difficult. Wouldn't have bothered me, except I had to restart at the beginning and do the same thing over and over and over. Got too bored and didn't finish.
Interesting, was a little unclear when I was "on the beat" and when I wasn't.
Thanks @mdkess, I actually used this resource: http://harry.me/2011/02/17/neat-algorithms---flocking/ There just some bug somewhere and ran out of time.
It's hard to figure out because it is so broken. The idea is each time you click a box it mutates and you are selecting on being hard to click. Its hard to tell because I didn't have to time fix all the bugs and polish.
@matthias_zarzecki exactly correct.
Seemed like after a few generations it settles into a rut, but that might be just my playing style. Cool idea and fits the theme perfectly.
Huh? Did I, wait.. what? Okay? Whatever.
That how the game made me feel. I really began to resent how random the food was.
Oh man god it's hard. Just getting out of the first level is the next to hardest part! Good game though, challenging and great fit for the theme.
Impressive! It was a let down that nothing happened after the Boss Battle :(
THe audio of the trucker calling his friend was awesome.
Driving was challenging and fun. The weight was crazy!
I had fun, good strategy game. After one play through I played again thinking about what to do different! I think I died, because I ran out of people but game didn't end?
Looks great, has nice atmosphere and fits the theme perfect.
First? I just wanted to go through the motions in advance of the deadline. You can try it out now.
@testzero Yeah, you are spot on. My plan was going to add elements to the maps that had an impact on the bears behavior and sometimes the man could move them around.
@SoulBound Thank you!
@TomaszHajas Yeah, being a programmer limits what I can pull off.
@MayankUnreal Thanks a lot!
You lost a star on fun because I couldn't figure out how to get bullets back. Is one of the shapes suppose to be melee? I experimented but it was too hard because it changes shape so much. I also found the arrow keys to shoot made things too complicated... space bar would have been enough but I guess sometimes space bar did something too? Never figured that part out.
You have some good idea here!
It was hard knowing where the thing was going.
I couldn't see around the thing very well.
The key controls where very confusing.
Web? Download? huh?
This is a cool game, I haven't won yet, but I like it.
Good: Haven't multiple things to track and focus on made me strategize and focus on a couple to manipulate, made me feel scheme-y.
Meh: I feel like the colors and music didn't lend to the feeling and mood of being a shapeshifting spy.
Cherry On Top: I like the cards that are weird, random and made you wonder about story elements and secrets.
It really bothers me you are asking for money during the judging period. I'm a 100% behind people doing a post-compo version of the game and charging for money, but it's seems tacky to ask for a tip from other jammers doing reviews of entries.
The weapons changing random is tough. I think it would be easier it you had a bit of warning it was about to change. I like the idea though of constantly having to adapt.
Love a Tycoon game, I hope to see you expand the game. Would be nice to get a sense where the oil market is going. I keep getting into a situation where I couldn't lower expenses as the price of oil tanked.
I couldn't really figure out how to keep the robot from disappearing. I recommend adding a help screen.
Love the co-op offence vs defense trade-off. I think the pace could be sped up and maybe a cool alternate fire mode for each player.
@valkyrie Hacker! jk If you are fast and reckless you can get away. Also, you cast Totems with the E key.
You're right @Zinkler, I wish I had gotten some sounds in. Helpful Tip: spamming Totems is going to make things really, really hard because the more you make the more Keepers will spawn.
@notpresident35 Thanks! Yeah, I'm no artist, programmer art all the way ;)
@Zinkler okay, that make sense. I'll have to think on it and figure out how to improve the design. Thanks!
@THX1342 Thanks! I hope people like it, I have a lot of ideas on how the exapnd and polish the game.
P.S. It's funny how your name made me think about that short George Lucas made: THX 1138.
@C1FR1 I totally agree, some procedurally generated maps are at the top of my improvement list. Thanks for playing!
@trabitboy Thanks for playing and for the feedback! If you press the H or the ? you should see a screen describing the keys, but I should have added it to the start screen too though. If enough people like it I will make a post compo version.
@vfabien21 Yeah, I think you are right. If I do a post-compo game I'll have to add some beginning story to explain the dynamic.
@PavelDlouhy See, this has beena problem for most. I'll try to highlight the controls in the beginning better.
@chunkybrewster You are totally right! I had not thought of that! Thanks! I'll have to change it if I do a post-compo.
Great concept! I struggled with figuring out the wires, transistors and what the belts did. Tooltips would help a lot. I really hope to see a post-compo version.
Fun! I only wish I had double jump!
Neat, lots of potential.
Just enough clicking to be engaging but not boring. Would be nice if there was a little branching so you had to make some choices in the late game. Love the commentary on the state of the gaming world.
I escaped, but with no gold. This is because I didn't realize the bombs where the gold. Good news is I brought a lot of friends with me! It isn't much of a balloon really, more like a very lite rock skimming the surface of the mountain.
Good job. Reminded me of 30 Flights of Loving, probably the square heads. It's was awesome I could shoot from very far and take them out like a sniper. I did get a little confused a couple times about which way I going and circled back on myself, hall decorations weren't different enough I think.
I always wanted to be a Cat Lady :) You got a cleaning action down, very satisfactory cleaning feel. I wish I had things to buy and improve the cat house with.
Did the color of the coding matter some how? I couldn't figure out how to complete tasks. Thank God for double jump. I think the controls need to be improved, maybe spacebar as jump action? Good job on getting a full unique game complete!
I found it really hard to play, the camera was really erratic and enter sometimes changed the screen mode instead of go back to the menu. I like the "gravity" mechanic. I think a fixed camera would help a lot.
I love the concept and want you to explore the idea more. I did struggle understanding how the three "resources" interact with each other. It didn't make sense to me why the nano-machines where moving around. The three layer of cells seems like a complexity that isn't really useful. The dropper especially frustrated me because it was such a blunt instrument. I really wished I could upgrade it or something so I could better design the life patterns to fit with the nano-machines. I hope you continue to work on it, great job.
Quick before you kill my browser! Totally insane! lol
Nice, really fits the theme well and I like how you can kind of control the difficulty yourself. I would have loved some bonus things to go after like a piece of bread or something.
Nice tight little package. I like how smooth everything lasted and the challenge level is just right for a first time player. I'd suggest some way of visually telling where the baddies are going to spawn. Good work, many more levels than most people can get done in a jam!
Scared me the first time an alien attacked. Got lost in the woods the second time, flashlight glitched out. Start running around randomly because I couldn't really see the aliens coming. Found a house that had some weird glasses or something, not sure what it did. Died before really figuring it out.
Ah! I didn't see a battery level on the flash light and it definitely stopped working eventually.
Funny idea, shooting "money" at people. I found the control scheme really difficult to work with though. It was also hard to tell why the cops where casing me? I thought the circles where their detection zone, but a few times they seem to notice when I didn't expect them too.
Dang that second level is hard. Great work, can't wait to see some animations in the future.
Awesome! I hope you continue working, I want to play more!
I really don't like that you are monitizing jammers reviewing entires, it's very tacky. I'm all for people releasing a post-compo version and charging money, just not on your entry that needs judging.
@Edword I see, that's understandable. I'd suggest checking out itch.io to host next time, they have non-monetized options..
I feel like the game has a lot of potential. I did get a bit bored with just clicking the forest, and would like to be able to buy a chainsaw or something to go faster or get more wood. Please keep working on it, I'd like to see more.
Not sure if the green things are good or bad, but once I tipped upside down it was impossible to get moving again. I think the rockets just aren't powerful enough.
It's extra hard on a laptop trackpad lol The hammer seemed misconfigured on some hits, those pink bunnies would skip away happy as can be.
