LD17 — Islands (19)

Baby Leviathan: Eat All Fishies by ExciteMike

Loved the idea of controlling the snake like this! It was pretty challenging to actually catch any of the fish, though :)

The tune was cool.

Radio Silence by Terry

Sweet audio experience.

I wouldn't have hated more visual help in regards to finding the sound emitting items, though. It wasn't always clear to me in which direction I needed to go (I was using headphones, better sound setup would have helped perhaps?)

Ascention by kd5bjo

Really cool mechanic. Bit difficult at times; you can't fine-tune your position so if you don't plan ahead it can get a bit frustrating.

tailspin by greencow

I found it extremely difficult to land/refuel. I felt like I was running out of fuel before getting anywhere at all. The plane movement also seemed very "jumpy"; i.e. not smooth at all, which put me off quite a bit.

If the game was more forgiving to bad pilots (me!) this could probably be a lot of fun!

Whales of Aelia by PsySal

This was really interesting to play. I'm still quite uncertain about my goals, but it was a cool experience. Great music.

Islands: Through the Sweep of Stars by Morre

Very cool idea. Reminds me of the try2hack kinda games :)

Some of the riddles seemed impossible, but after a while they all became obvious :)

A Fishing Adventure by Sophie Houlden

Nice to see a game with proper animations. The rainbow trail looks fantastic (saw this in an pre-final build, dunno if its still there, didnt make it all the way through this time!).

Mouse control was a bit sensitive for my taste, but overall it worked fine. I got stung by the "drop fish" a few times like bluescrn, but still completed most levels :)

BRAVE ISLAND DIVER by jwaap

I really hate it when games go fullscreen without asking. But putting that aside - this game is good stuff.
The jump+gravity switch mechanic works very well, and seem to have a lot of potential. At least in platformers.

geology by marblecake

Doesn't work on Mac (Snow Leopard 10.6.3).

Iceland and the volcanic ASH of DOOM by Rolf

I found the controls pretty annoying, and not working as expected. Other than that, fun and topical idea!

Island Warriors by ruben01

Unable to run on Mac (Snow Leopard 10.6.3).

Tropical Islands of Doom by Codexus

Aargh inverted vertical camera control!

Aside from that, though, it looks pretty damn good! Nice looking models and crisp textures. I would have liked some sort of animation for the player character - it always looks so wrong just sliding a stiff model around (at least when it's an organic character like this).

Waves by Gregory Avery-Weir

Left/right controls didn't work in Chrome on my Mac. Up/x did, though. Weird.

Island of Bounty by Ashkin

Doesn't look bad! It would have been nice if the arrows rotated to match the expected orientation as they traveled along their path :)

Artifact Hunt by allen

Must have been a glitch in the unity engine on this machine, because everything looked way washed out, and occasionally the game would flash blue.

I really liked the tune, though.

The Forgotten Isles by Tempest

Pretty nice tune. I really liked the disappearing/appearing terrain obstacles too.

I found the controls weird to begin with, since the character would not move according to the camera's orientation.

Pee Wee Pirates by frosty

Pretty fun.

i thought we had a thing by localcoder

Good little quickie.

I agree with dgfitch that some constraint parameters would have worked well for the quests. Also, adding some incentive to find/finish quests would be worthwhile.

Infinite Deadly Islands Of Terror by Hamumu

Really sweet game. I did get bored after a while, but I guess that's a natural side-effect from the infinite levels feature!

LD14 — Advancing Wall of Doom (12)

Unknown by X-0ut

Not much to add from all the other commenters, so only one small issue from me! I was slightly annoyed at often falling off edges sooner than i'd expect.

I already played through Portal, so I gotta admit im not throwing a 5'er in fun here, but this was definitely technically impressive. I love boxing-in transition when you die (which happened often ;))

Tsunami Warrior by tonic

Cool idea, but the boat needs to feel much faster, and the tsunami of doom needs to be much more threatening :D I had to miss almost every single speedup to ever get hit by it.

The waves and the buoyancy looked pretty good though.

Wall of Locust by ondrew

I like the idea and the looks.

It REALLY annoyed me not having a mouse cursor visible, though. The rotating of the windmills felt odd to me; sometimes it would rotate more than once, when just clicking. It might actually just have been my mouse messing up, though.

The Triumph of Time by muku

Very neat game. I liked the background music a lot, it was very fitting.

I didn't like the rmb-click-on-tile navigation. I felt like it would have worked a lot better if you could scroll by hovering the mouse cursor at the edges of the screen.

For me, the game itself got very difficult in lvl3, and, as noted by ondrew, the game lost the relaxed puzzle feel that I felt the first levels had.

I would also have liked a visual cue as to whether or not a pylon would be aligned with any other pylons before placing them.

Sky Upon Us by Morre

Simple fun.

I'd have liked a larger window though, as I keep ending up losing focus to windows in the background when trying to maximize the length of my arrow strokes :D

Walls of Tron by mantis

That was good fun playing alone. Managed to survive at least a few seconds before getting screwed by my brain not coping with the directions to take :D

Also, sounds, :D

A thing! by Lerc

I love games like this, for some reason I find the gameplay extremely relaxing.

It felt a but sluggish, but I guess that's to be expected with many objects (and Flash? I dunno).

Glacier by jovoc

Interesting idea :D

Sometimes the sheep (mammoth? lol) seemed to get stuck, and wouldn't move even though there were clear paths for them to take.

Advance 2 – Aftermath by DrPetter

The homing balls annoyed me greatly, as the rhythm of your movement gets completely thrown off when you get hit.

Well, alright game I guess. Gets a bit boring after a (short) while though, to say the least :)

Put the Ball in the Basket by Doches

As ondrew said, nicely polished. Sounds, music AND a game? Totally makes me look bad :)

If I have to mention anything bad, I guess it would be that the physics tend to bug a bit, and the music dropped unexpectedly at times. I also think it would have been more elegant to let the game end when the ball started resting, rather than allowing the player to just stack up whatever until reaching the bucket.

Oh, and where's the walls of doom?! :)

tombed by dessgeega

Pretty cool and right on the money with the theme.

Why does the girl have a beard?

[Wall Girl] by 5parrowhawk

This is really hard for me to judge because I really don't like shmups, and I suck at 'em too!

The game is way too hectic and intense for me to enjoy it, but, that's just me. It looks like you put a lot of work into this game, lots of graphics, effects, particles and enemy movement patterns. I can definitely appreciate that :)

A little gripe I have is that it doesn't seem to register certain arrow key combos, like for example down+left/right, making it hard for me to navigate.

LD13 — Roads (10)

DEAD END Will be at by OblivionCry

Hmm, I like the model screenshots.

Only Forwards by Jonathan Whiting

You clearly put a lot of effort into this game, and it definitely shows both graphically and in the content. Good job, man. I also think it was a nice variation of pacman-ish gameplay, even though I never liked pacman.

However, i did notice one small bug where the game sometimes didnt seem to want to recognize my keystrokes, making me run into bad stuff :(

(also, great to see a lot of journal/food entries! Yours were especially good at showing the entire process of making the game, imo)

The Road to Troy (probably final) by Lerc

Like erik, im also impressed by the fact that you did this in flash.

Initially it took a while before the game would give me control of the vehicle, but I guess it was just calcing terrain or something? :)

Regarding controls the final was definitely easier to play than the first couple of versions you had up, where controlling were handled by mouse.

CoMuTor by HybridMind

I found it hard to eat the people, as i just couldn't get used to having to be at/on them before pressing the eat button (eating made you stand still).

Besides that little thing, it was smooth and overall a decent little game :)

PizzaBitch by Sophie Houlden

Haha, that was cool. At least until I arrived at the actual game :P I found it way hard to drive that thing, maybe if you could turn while standing still it would have been easier.

DoctorTease by flgr

No worky.

Left4Bread by Fiona

So cool.

I only wish it had better handling of the cars :)

Emergency Bypass by dock

It's a cool idea, and you did manage to get something done that isn't even bad. I especially like the graphics, music, and the felling of trees (when not holding forward).

Generally your entry just lacks polish and bug squashing. It would have added a lot to let the player know wtf is going on, and what he's supposed to do :P

Rolling Down the Road by caturday

As a fellow XNA'er, and probably the only dude (besides you) in this community with .NET AND XNA installed, I felt it was my duty to try your game.

Generally your game just lacked polish, but it was cool how certain things stuck to the ball, and it looked pretty good. It would have been even cooler (but probably a good bit more complex) if the rolling of the ball was affected by its current state, and if you started being able to roll down the larger cactus plants, or even cars, once you reached a certain size.

What I didn't like about your game was that it took me a while just to understand what was going on, what I had to do, and how to get the ball under control. The initial startup was totally frantic, and I think I got stuck in a couple of cars before even gaining control of the ball. A starting "Press whatever to play"-screen, and initial state that wasnt just random would have eased me into the game much better.

In regards to the controls, everything seemed to just go way too fast, way too quickly. Might just be me, but I think that smoother zooming/speed gain would have made it a much better experience to play.

(NOTE: I only tried it with my xb360 controller, no keyboard)

EDIT: going back and looking at screenshots, I guess I just didn't play long enough to be able to stick to the cars/larger plants.

β€˜0xF0’ by bluescrn

High quality and polish. This is really a great piece of work. I love how you can just go nuts with the speed, fly off the tracks, and still get yourself back before failing :)

It would be cool if the game automatically switched track after finishing one.

LD12 — The Tower (10)

Dark Tower by X-0ut

Crazy hard. Looks good though.

Junktowers by Papper

I liked it.

My only complaints are that character control feels really sluggish, and that it totally stinks to have to do the entire level again when you do something stupid near the end (ofc i did) :)

Steam Tower by Orangy Tang

Nice work. Very polished with the graphics and levels. :)

I wish the character control was tighter and less sluggish, though.

Another thing that annoyed me was that picking up an end didn\'t always register on the first keypress, might be because i was moving at the same time.

Stacker by MrPhil

I like the idea in general, but I think it is way too easy. I lost interest already after the first level.

I think a huge improvement would be to let each level have a set of shapes that you had to stack to get above the line. That way each level would be different, and difficulty could easily be scaled simply by adjusting the amount of pieces available. (..i just realized Endurion already proposed this)

Towerball by Morre

Dude! This came out great.

I\'m slightly annoyed at the time it takes for the balls to chill out and let me shoot again though :)

Cat Stacker (Final Entry) by lexaloffle

Hehe cats.

As good as it gets by gjuggler

Hmm.. I tried practice and found it funny how the cardboard box said it had 8 pieces, yet i could just keep pouring out new pieces ;)

After that, I went to main-menu and selected Challenge. This caused an exception to happen, and even refreshing the page doesn\'t reset the app (or whatever you call this webstuff)

But! I liked the graphics I saw before it all crashed! :)

My by Codexus

Pretty little platformer.

The ice-zones were pretty annoying as you seemed to not be able to turn while standing on them. They also made me glide into the air quite often (which apparently didnt get caught by the collision-detection, so i was flying for a bit :))

Oh, and you move twice as fast if you move diagonally which made me able to bypass some stuff.

Tower of Abba!! Final!!! by abeck99

Good job on completing your first LD!

I liked the sounds and the easy to use camera.

I Had a hard time reading the instructions/menu :S That part could have been easily improved!

Sometimes hard to stop the little guys from moving up, since i\'d usually click the closest brick rather than the furthest, so i couldnt instantly click the furthest brick due to the closest brick being in the way of my view.

Towlr – 2 Hour Game by PoV

17 tries, lol.

LD11 — Minimalist (18)

Typoworm by XMunkki

I found it quite hard to get anywhere further than the first word, because I just can't stop typing when i've read the word and then i bang into the roof! So that was a bit of a dampener on the fun factor for me..

The size of the window sure was minimal though! :)

Spacbattle is done-ish by tirpen

Hm, never really figured out how to control ships properly. Very slow-paced gameplay, just not my cup of tea.

Fit the theme in terms of minimalistic control-scheme and graphics.

Block Picker 1.0 – final, timelapse by sol_hsa

Definitely minimal in every way, shape and form.

Gameplay-wise it is, surprisingly, always fun to move your mouse to the right spot and hear a win sound!

Minimaze by shanecelis

Cool idea. Lots of potential.

Yeah, ThingGo is a go go! by robot_guy

Solid, but pretty boring.

Unknown by NULL

Didn't try it. Can has executable?!

minimalist rts by negativegeforce

The whole idea did not seem to fit the theme very well, and well, as drZool said there's not really any gameplay. You did make something though, and that's always a thumbs up!

Trivial Escape from Minimalist Island by mjau

I really like it. The graphics are lovely.

Also, big thumbs up for making an adventure game and for making an adventure game that keeps with the minimal theme! :)

Framed! v1.1 Released by mikeware

Stopped playing after about 3 failed attempts on easy. I don't think I understand the concept :P

I like the graphics!

Kill ALL Life!!! by Kimau

I have no clue what's going on, but it looks pretty.

Cowbell Hero by jovoc

Well, if the beat detection/syncing had worked it would probably have been fun to play :P

Col-4 by jolle

Heh, horrible color scheme, but solid gameplay (.. albeit kinda boring ;))

Sailor by gustav

Heh, kinda cute. Thumbs up for the colliding particles.

My boat kept getting water particles stuck inside when launching it, so it would pretty much sink instantly most of the time :(

WORLDMAKER by eugman

1 file is indeed minimal :)

Unknown by dgriff

The keyboard controls felt annoying to me. Had it been fully mouse controlled I think i'd have enjoyed it much more. But still, good game.

The music is not a genre i like, but it seemed like a good piece of work. :)

As good as it is going to get by creiht

I do not have a facebook account, sorry.

Game by alex

I like the sounds, and the actual game runs very smooth. The minimalist vector graphics, and simple controls kept it in touch with the theme.

However, it just seemed hard to me. I didn't realize you could actually move the blue box until after a couple tries, but even then I found it difficult to stay alive once there were more than just one red box in play.

Micro Macro by PoV

Disables aero theme in windows vista, which is kinda annoying.

As others have noted, it's hard to figure out wtf you're supposed to do :)

Retro graphics fit minimalism nicely.

LD10 — Chain Reaction (14)

Final Release by XMunkki

Both technically and graphically this is really nice.

Makes good use of the theme.

I had some trouble with picking on the cannons, where mouseclicks were not always getting registered.

Vector Chain Attack by wicked

Impossible to play (and enjoy) on a laptop without a mouse plugged in. Even then, with a mouse, the controls *feel* wrong to me, and in these kinds of games this is what makes or breaks them (A GamePad is necessary, imo).

The gameplay itself is not very innovative and does not make good use of the theme; however, I, for one, will always enjoy these "stick-shooters" :)

Oh, and I like the music :)

Snowroller by viblo

Had python 2.51 installed, didn't run though.

Boostcraft by rale

Good game. Simple and effective gameplay that is very easy to understand.

The graphics are very stylish and fits perfectly, although over-the-shoulder viewers have said that the animated background is confusing to the eyes.

One of the only problems I had with this, was that the time between getting to the next level/re-starting feels like forever.

THE CAVES OF INSANITY!! by philhassey

I liked burning the fuses all over the place, found it quite hard to actually complete levels though.

Marble Bomb by NyanNyanKoneko

Ran incredibly bad on my laptop (Vista, 2ghz dual-core, 8600GT 512mb) using the lowest resolution in windowed mode.

I did not enjoy the graphics, I would much have preferred a solid color surface for all objects :)

Basecamp Chain Reaction v1 by negativegeforce

Could have been fun, but as had been said multiple times it is simply too hard to control the ship.

I would have liked a visual indicator of which crate was going to be grabbed, and also an indication of being close enough to grab.

Shrapnel by mjau

I'm not a big fan of shmups, but I did like the music. Controls felt really slow to me.

I did not see any chain reactions happen, so I guess i'll have to pop a n/a for theme..

Unknown by jovoc

The collision detection was pretty.. lousy :), I even managed, as have been mentioned in other comments, to fall through the floor a couple of times.

The chain looks cool though I did'nt figure out how to use it for anything cool :)

Short Fuse by Hamumu

Very good use of theme, very nice menu and over-all polish. Love the explosions.

As mentioned, an indicator of when fuse will light would be nice.

Seems that you run faster when going diagonally. (e.g. up+right)

M3 – Molesting the Match-3 Market by gummikana

Pretty cool gameplay actually.

However, it did not keep me interested for more than one play-through. This was mainly due to the amount of time it takes for any action to happen.

Ms Green’s lovely day by gimblll

Cute. Reminds me a lot of the XBLA game "Eets", which is also fun so that's not a bad thing!

HeliChain by drZool

I found it pretty unplayable due to the controls, I had to give up trying to move that crate :(

I don't think this type of game can ever have controls that feel good, while keeping the game somewhat realistic.

I really liked the concept sketch you did in the beginning of the compo though! :D

Finally by BenW

Very good use of the theme. Very simple, yet clever gameplay. Neat and stylish graphics.

The somewhat un-responsive controls lowers the score a bit.
