Seemed a little too easy, even on hard. I'm not sure the concept really works well as a game, but it looked like your inspiration, so stylistically is very good.
I agree with saluk that it was a little too easy, but it still looks interesting.
Interesting concept and followed the theme very well. Not sure about the actual gameplay though.
Nice puzzle game. The hard mode is kinda... hard, though. The easy mode makes more sense to me. They feel like different games. I guess the easy mode is pretty easy though... Maybe there's a middle ground? The instructions weren't very clear, by the way. I had the same problem sol had until I figured out that I need to get the rogue frames too.
I like how you took inspiration from a minimalist work of art. You seem to have captured the same kind of visual look. The music and sounds are a little annoying.
Beat easy on third attempt, couldn't figure out hard though. Read the story / plot you posted and while it helped me some I still feel as if I'm missing something basic about the game even though I was able to win. Seems like some of the patterns of my action shouldn't have resulted in my win. I am using the bug fix patch 1.11 btw. I do like where you inspiration came from and how you implemented that inspiration. I recall noticing that same google image on an initial theme search, it was cool to see you post your source / thought material. Music did start to drive me batty after a bit of play though.. :P
I don't understand why others are saying that it's too easy - I tried playing a couple of times, clearing the board, and it just says I failed; I have no idea why.
Stopped playing after about 3 failed attempts on easy. I don't think I understand the concept :P
I like the graphics!
It took me a few tries to beat easy; after one try I quit playing hard =( The gameplay wasn't good enough to keep me trying for more. The music was good for about five of the ten minutes I spent on the game. Theme was followed well.
I had to read the comments to work out what was going on. After I had worked out what was going on, it seemed kind of pointless. It's good to see a Ludumdare game with music in it.
Couldn't open fie CRC error
It took me forever to realize that the supposedly advantageous action of removing same-size frames was actually DISadvantageous... you can only win by removing different sized frames! Otherwise the rogue ones never appear and you lose. Also, once all the rogue ones have popped up, there's no longer any risk - every pair is a 'match' at that point. That's in easy mode, I don't know how hard mode works. But it means that easy mode is simply a game of avoiding clicking matching pairs (and you only have to succeed at that occasionally to win it). Well, I guess you also have to avoid clicking pairs of rogues, but that's not exactly tricky.
In hard mode, it seems to be the same, only you can't see how many rogues there are. I really just don't understand this game... why am I trying to do a bad job at making matches? Yep, I was able to win Hard the exact same way - by making sure that I never made a match (until I ran out of rogues), and never clicked 2 rogues together. But even if I did that, it's easy to fix by just doing it again.
So really the only threat I faced in this game was getting past the instructions! Which I suspect I still haven't managed to do. I just don't get this game at all. I can win it, absolutely trivially... but I don't know why I should be doing that. This game is a mystery of minimalist art.
I found that same image and thought about doing something involving that art piece, but then I saw your screenshot and knew I had to pick something else. B-)
As for the game itself, I thought it was very clever. It seems easy, and it wasn't clear at first that you needed to clear the board of both regular and rogue frames, but once you figure that out, the game becomes a bit more strategic. I could have done with an option to lower the sound, though. It got tedious after a bit, and even before then it was a bit harsh to listen to.
Good job overall, though!
really digging the song. reminds me of old pc speaker dos games.
Your explanation confused me more than the game. Once I got your art gallery stuff out of my head I did ok, but I never did beat hard. Granted I only gave it a couple tries, but still. I think the level is too long, and since you cant 'go back' I could only stand a couple tries before I quit. Overall though, great job and cool use of the theme!
I liked the use of "minimalist" frames, but the sound really made it hard to play! I suppose I could have muted it. I wasn't sure why I lost when I got to the end of the round either, oh well. I'm dense like that.
First I didn't get it. Then I did, and then easy mode was very easy. Dunno about hard... seems there's infinite amount of rogues? So it played differently... or possibly there were just very, very many rogues. A bit like in MMORPG PvP, har har. Anyway, think actual idea needs refinement.
Quirky idea and requires quite a lot of thinking. The music was wonderfully mysterious and it matched with the name. The game feels really polished, since even the lose text has a frame in it and the theme is consistent. Very good job on this one! :)
I don't get it. Every time I clear the screen, a bunch of colored frames appear for no apparent reason and I lose.
Cool game, neat idea, good music. :-)
It's an interesting game - not very easy to beat without thinking about it. There's a very minimal feel to this game, even though the gameplay is actually pretty complex.
