LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen (1)

Kuch Bhi ! by bORAT 2014-12-24T22:17:00

I really like this idea - it would be a great little mobile game with some polish and more depth.

LD12 — The Tower (31)

Dark Tower by X-0ut

So you got your maze generation in! :) Very cool concept - I love random levels. I didn't make it very far though - really hard to avoid bats and scorpions and whatnot. I kept wanting a better way to duck under things. My first level I started right next to a scorpion, who promptly killed me. :P

Crystal Towers Beta -Final- by wonderwhy-er

Nifty idea. Hitting main menu after it's over doesn't work though- flashes then jumps back to results screen.

Cannon Hates Tower by Sivart13

Hmmmm. Not much 'why' in the game. Also, the physics are pretty wonky -- the blocks bounce on their own like jumping beans and the cannon ball bounces weird and gets stuck. Still, its fun to shoot cannonballs at towers (thats exactly what my game does too :D )

Commander Blunt by robut

I made a windows exe for you while I was creating the torrent. You can grab it at http://keeyai.com/files/commanderblunt.zip

It has the win exe and source in it, as well as the gameinfo.xml to make it more useful in CGL.

Castle Attack by psnake

Same as covenant. Vista doesn't seem to work right. What's this hydrus_d.exe file that is timestamped before the compo even started?

The Siege of von Danken Tower by pansapiens

Cool idea making an atari game. Applet has some issues - looping from the right gets all wonky, and the reset button didn't work for me in FF or IE on vista.

Steam Tower by Orangy Tang

Good looking game and the chain physics are fun, but the gameplay is really just about fighting against the level, which gets tedious fast. Still, good job.

Breaking the Tower by Notch

Very nice game. Love the camera work. Amazingly complex for an LD entry. Unfortunately I got frustrated and quit when my half my warriors were just hanging out at the beach all day and the other half watch the guys in black walk past, kill some workers, and destroy a building or two before attacking. Still, very nice entry.

Escape From The Tower of DOOM by nilsf

Great FotC reference - 5 for humor for that + kittens.

Final for “Choke Point” by mikejedw

I was disappointed when I didn't have to manage collisions or anything, just airport capacity. I never had to do any juggling - just let the planes land as soon as there was room...

After the time ran out and I won, it kept playing and the blue cargo bar kept getting more and more negative.

Click planes over the black makes them go under the black. Not a big deal, but a little bug.

WeatherTower – Binary Build Done + Win32 Build! by kutani

Exactly the same as Wiering (Vista Business)

Darn, I didn’t make it so guests could download… by demize

I'm not quite sure what is happening. I pick up keys, it resets. I pick up left facing key, it resets. Is this me winning/losing?

Moonbase Defense by jovoc

Controls aren't great, but 3D is always fun. Huge amount of potential.

Rise Of The Owls by Hamumu

Awesome game. I = Win. Great spin on tower defense. Sounds were good without being annoying. I'm a sucker for your art style.

Cutting it Fine by Frimkron

Art is beautiful - the effect of going around the tower is cool, but is brutal on the eyes. That plus the very slippery controls make it a challenge indeed.

Purple Reign – A love letter to awesome games by Fiona

Same as covenant - crashes on vista as it talks about signs of a struggle. No output, just CTD.

Tower Infinite by Entar

I gave you an extra point in food for the in-game portal background behind all your food pics and the blurring of the cookies, and an extra point on journal for your motivational posters. :D

Tower Collapse by Endurion

Pretty nifty, and good looking too. Biggest complaint would be the random - once I figured out how random it was I just hit the same config a couple times until I won. Also, I never used that $250 protection - stuff flew right past it (not through it, past) and it costs an arm and a leg.

TowerAssault0 by edwardoka

You have my sympathy. I hate wrestling with tools. This is a pretty nice product for 2 hours.

Control Tower by Edge

I liked the nostalgic graphics. Maybe you could have different colored planes/targets so you can put more than just two on the screen at once. I think that would really increase the fun factor. Also, it took a minute to figure out how to play -- I was avoiding right click because the menu says that is how to quit. On that same note, you need a way to quit in game - ESC or Q or something.

Incoming Fodder Final drZool by drZool

Hmmm. So they touch your towers and they die? What do casinos do? Also, it sounded like the game tried to keep running while the losing screen was up.

Demonic Tower by dstrysnd

Great music and nifty idea.

Balkor FINAL [Platform independant] by Daz

Controls are an obstacle not a tool, and the looping music after the game closes makes children cry.

I lolled at the license though, so I gave you an extra point in humor.

Covenant – Brick Tower by Covenant

Was fairly fun. I'd like to have a way to make the blocks fall faster.

My by Codexus

Absolutely beatiful. Nice to see a great looking 3D game in just 48 hours. Controls were a bit wonky, but the level design was quite good and I loved how you did the finale.

done for now by ashton379

:( Same as the rest of the people. No error output or crashing, just... nothing...

Maybe I found it...

AkinTower Ready by Ariel Yust

The art is beautiful! Great job.

What did you make that music in? I don't know what these other people are thinking about the music - I loved it.

done by allefant

I love the 2D characters on the 3D world. The 3D looks really great. I'm with notch on the too much fetchquesting -- also, I never did make it up the second time. I moved all those blocks to the left and to the right and was always one block short. As for codexus - you can pick up a block and hit a cat and it will put the block back where it spawned. Not an ideal solution, but available.

Also, food++ for the cookie (?) tower!

Into the Sky by algorias

You could add more colors, powerups to make bonus points or ways to destroy reds, color changing blocks... You could scroll the screen up for next levels, so the player has to use their probably meager platform and red gets the rest of the screen.

Super Tower Ascent 2 by adamzap

Very choppy on vista, but still playable if it's on easy (normal was too choppy). Needs some sort of variety -- the dude slowly ascending the wall got boring fast.

Towlr – 2 Hour Game by PoV

Everyone made such a big deal about it that I think it made it harder. I was messing around with left alt + right alt + space, which locks it up, and all sorts of other combinations... When I finally got it, I was at 17 or something, but I had been slamming into the wall in frustration playing it before, so who knows what the real number is. I wish there was a hype category.

LD11 — Minimalist (67)

Typoworm by XMunkki

I really like what you did with the background and 'walls' Not sure how the dot is a worm, but whatev :). Great, clever gameplay - very minimalist while maintaining fun and unique flavor. Biggest complaint: I was at 1588 when I lost and the letter I was typing was way off to the right so I really didn't have as much time as I wanted to look at the letters. Also, I felt like I was juggling trying to see the letters and watch the cave. Maybe a faded out overlay of the letters instead of on the bottom? I don't know if that would work, but maybe.

Unknown by Wiering

Hmmm. "A minimalist game shouldn’t really need instructions, but.." lol.

Castle Adventure by Viridian

Great fun. Made me really want to play dwarf fortress again. I was mad that I couldn't defend myself with the sword without getting hurt too, but once I found the bow those evil female monsters got owned.

final version of my game by triorph

Um... I fly around, unaffected by these massive gravity wells, and shoot at the other guy? No indication of damage being done or health remaining. Shooting the other colored ball doesn't seem to do anything except randomly teleport me every once in a while. Maybe this is fun if you know what is going on...

warrior by tonic

Beautiful 3D. The sound and music were good too. I didn't like having a 3D shooting game without any sort of camera control though - and I kept clicking outside the window so a maximize option would be nice. The snow was awesome too. As for theme though...

Spacbattle is done-ish by tirpen

Great fun! Controls could be a little better, but overall, awesome. The little lines in the corners add a lot.

I also got the MSVCR71.dll could not be extracted error, but I just ran it with python.

http://blahwebstorage.googlepages.com/Game.html by threeeffhex

Sounds like it could be a fun idea when finished.

RPG Battle Simulation by thedaian

Wiering nailed it for me with his comment, "I lost (or won?) several times, but I didn't have any idea what I was doing. Probably just not my type of game..."

The Butler Did It by Surrealix

I grabbed your working windows port, but it didn't really work very well. Crashed a couple times, then when it did load I couldn't tell what in the world was happening. The font was unreadable and without any interface clues I really had no idea what the icons were except the handcuffs. It sounds like a really fun game though -- maybe you can post a vid of it working :)

CGA Quest by SpindleyQ

I had fun. Level 4 didn't hold me up too badly, and level 5 was pretty easy, although I won it and there was still that lone left arrow (but I'm pretty sure I shot that...)

Block Picker 1.0 – final, timelapse by sol_hsa

Decent game. The fact that you have to overlap them instead of just touch them drove me crazy at first.

The white gazelle laughs maniacally by jhauberg

Crashed on startup with no information. WinXP

Minimaze by shanecelis

Love the idea. Stick like 100 levels on it and its a totally viable flash game.

“Desktop Rox” by sgstair

Super time lapse points for the status screen and for the little piles of food you keep pouring then eating :D

Simple Dungeon by sfernald

Cool game, but I quit midway through because of how tedious the healing is. I did get a nice rhythm down with my arrow keys, but still, enough is enough. I think with a boost to the healing speed (or take healing out and rebalance) it would be really awesome.

Strong AI by SethR

Fun game, and hilarious voice over ala portal. Here comes a cake related trophy...

redgate by scoopr

Minimal = 5 :)

Space Stuff Trader by saluk

Hrmm... It sounds like fun, but so many things got in the way of actually playing. First of all, why a tiny window? Would be nice to have a regularly sized windowed option (maybe 800x600?). That will increase portability as well.

I got molested right off the bat by some ship that killed me before it was even on screen. Literally I hadn't move yet. The controls are impossible - turning seems to be in increments of like 50 degrees so I pretty much zig zagged everywhere I was trying to go. I guess that was a good thing though, since red ships were at every planet I tried and they promptly blasted me to smithereens without me being able to even face them, let alone fight back.

Still, I'm a huge fan of space shooter and space trader games, so if you finish this up, let us know.

Circle conquest by DanReyLop

Didn't read the blog until I was judging, so I suffered through the browser lag. Cool idea - iron out the bugs and add some more levels.

Color eater by lucasshrew

The comments before mine pretty much sum it up. New, but tedious controls. Level repetition. Lack of a real goal.

Yeah, ThingGo is a go go! by robot_guy

Fun game. Got a lot easier when I just ignored the diamonds and smashed the badguys.

Origami Wars by piddlepup

installer AND outside music? oh noes!

The Pushers by phren

It just occurred to me that this is paper racing, which explains the wonky controls. I was frustrated while playing because I felt like I was racing and should be able to keep pressing space to keep my power meter up. I now understand WHY it is turn based.

win32.dll The Game by philhassey

Very very funny. The music works really well with it too - nice job. I only wish I had more time to read the popups. +5 for goat cookie madness.

Tiny Hawk final release by pekuja of Polygon Toys

It's all been said. Fun game. Awesome name. Wish I could turn around.

Mondrian by pansapiens

Wow. Absolutely awesome game. If I could give you a 10 for theme and innovation I would. You're by far the highest scores I've given out yet. Very clever and fresh and everything was perfectly applied and yet minimalistic. Also, yay for my LD toast in the time lapse :D.

Unknown by NULL

Decently fun. Hitting the big blobs things has weird results. Would have been cool to have more interesting things in later levels like conveyors, catapults, or moving platforms.

The Minimizing knight by nikolaj

Hey, I got the cannot import Image problem, and fixed it by changing that line in game.py with
"from pyglet import image as Image".

Also, the pyglet maximized window doesn't constrain the mouse on dual monitors, so the game is totally un-playable like that since you can't move the pointer correctly. But I DLed it on the laptop and played it here.

Tirpen hits on a good point about the background -- its hard to tell where you are. Would be nice to have some simple landmarks.

I like the gameplay - very fun concept. Needs some levels and whatnot. I'm having grand ideas for this game too (along with your pyweek one); I'll email you about it again. :)

Casey is ready to rock (kind of) by nfirvine

I got it to work by including the chipmunk dll in the game folder - http://pymunk.googlecode.com/files/Chipmunk-4.0.2_dll.zip

The game was really hard to play though, even after I read through the long long readme to find out about the R screen. When I tried to right click, it crashed with:

I used pymunk in my pyweek game and everyone had lots of trouble with it too, but I had it working on windows and not on linux :P

minimalist rts by negativegeforce

Um, nothing seems to happen... I placed some buildings, and hit the add worker button (which I didn't see the first time around since I built in the top right), and that was that. The workers wandered about and I don't think anything else happened. You said you didn't finish -- if you decide to work on it more, post a later version because I'm interested in where it will go.

Battle Magic Done! by MrPhil

Well, it was kind of hard to tell what I should do. Healing and minion summoning was clear enough, but piety and luck? I didn't really notice an effect, except after doing luck I lost the next 4/5 and died...

Trivial Escape from Minimalist Island by mjau

Awesome game. Took me forever to find that last important thing... I loved the art style.

I really enjoyed the music in your timelapse -- was that the song you wrote for the game and didn't put in?

Framed! v1.1 Released by mikeware

Your explanation confused me more than the game. Once I got your art gallery stuff out of my head I did ok, but I never did beat hard. Granted I only gave it a couple tries, but still. I think the level is too long, and since you cant 'go back' I could only stand a couple tries before I quit. Overall though, great job and cool use of the theme!

Unknown by Mike_W

Same for me as for Sol and Hamumu... The only thing that seems to work for the computer is them rock, me scissors...

Simple maze by matrin

Hamumu and Pekuja have it exactly right.

entry – Minim Madness by mariusz

Never got a single minim to work... I feel like you couldn't have tested this at all or are the most talented circle-drawer of all time... Why is it so hard? Why doesn't it just check for a closed polygon and a line? You could even just keep track of if/where you crossed while you drew one line, and that is the loop.

Mininode by LunarCrisis

I had no idea what to do until I read the comments on here. The readme was utterly unhelpful. Is there more to it than just clicking fast?

(T+48:48) Final Entry: BlockOut v0.LD48_11 by LoneStranger of LoneStranger Designs

Agreeing with Hamumu across the board. Good concept - balance it better.

Kill ALL Life!!! by Kimau

Ohh god, the blur makes me want to vomit... and kill all life...

Cowbell Hero by jovoc

Awesome idea. I wish the syncing worked! I laughed the whole time. I almost gave you a 5 for music too... Seriously though, 5 and a trophy for Humor.

Fix the syncing and release it again.

Unknown by john

I got it to work after uninstalling pyglet and installing the cutting edge release. If you aren't going to use a stable library build, you should include the source. Also - scariest looking construction worker ever.

Of Robots & Groglots by jlnr

Nice. Fresh gameplay, although the controls were a bit hard to perfect.

Steroids by jamports

Looks cool, but no mac. Hopefully you don't win with 65 N/As and a couple 5s. :)

There Is No Screwdriver by JamesDM

I'm with Hamumu here -- I felt like I was constantly fighting the game, instead of experiencing it. The caps are a pain in the ass, but they pale in comparison to the complete lack of interaction for commands you didn't want:

You see an electronic lock on the east wall and a door to the North.
You approach the closed door to the west
> North
You approach the closed door to the west
> East
You approach the closed door to the west
> Open Door
You approach the closed door to the west
> West
You approach the closed door to the west
> @&#$ YOU

This is where I stopped. :)

I am way impressed that you just learned python. Keep with it and I hope you participate next time.

Divine Asteroid Showdown by jakbob

Screw those guys and their spelling comments :D. I had fun playing it, and I actually 'prayed to god' beforehand so I knew how to play. The planets on the edge of the screen was lame, particularly in the last level, but I won it all on the first try and had a good time doing it. I wish I had tried the shield spinning technique! My last level strategy was to just put the shields right and try to cover the left sides of the left planets, using god bombs or whatever when possible. Also, I got a lot of lag when there were 1000 'asteroids' and 10000 particles, but my computer is currently dying so that might not be a common problem.

MinMo LD11 by HybridMind

Cool idea, but give me jump! I want more control, especially if I have to wait around for platforms. Also, why isn't mo a toggle? I died three times because the red snake on lvl 1 would pass over, bounce back, and be on my when I un-mo, and that was that. 3 times of that plus all the waiting around and I quit.

Still Pond by Hamumu

Wow, I absolutely loved it. Not sure what is up with the other people -- I thought it was perfect. VERY fun, supremely clever, and surprisingly funny. Great great job. Everything fits the theme beautifully - the art, sound, and background go together really well, and the ripples and reflection are a really nice touch.

Sailor by gustav

Very clever idea for water physics. If you hit space after you lose, you can make it keep giving you points over and over... :)

Dot2doT by Sophie Houlden

As some others have said, it's hard to care a lot when it is so random. You really can't plan, so it is just a luck game. Maybe if there was a way to see ahead, or maybe see a big map for a few seconds at the beginning or something. High score: 1018

GBGames presents Minimalist – the by GBGames

That's a 4 in humor just for the lose noise. Oh yeah. Awesome game -- simple, minimalist, and addicting gameplay. Also, PERFECT instructions - it's all in the subtleties - that bumped your polish up to 5.

miniPals by fydo

Cool start. As everyone has said, more levels. I bet it would be really fun with two people -- you should add controls that don't require a joystick for that.

WORLDMAKER by eugman

::SPOILER::

so, why do I win if I add fire to nothing, then a log, then a pebble which becomes the core of my planet, then tears?

dots by erik

Fun concept! I wish you could heal by eating the other balls.

Exxon – The decontaminator by drZool

Nice! I really liked it. I avoided the nitro until the end though, since it was more of a hindrance than a boon. Annoying that you HAD to get them to finish the level, but no big deal. Overall it was really great. Also -- you are a brave man to let those little girls eat right next to your running laptop. I would have given you a trophy for that if the picture worked well at 64x64.

Marginal Ungolf Spectacle by DrPetter

Great music. Has a lot of potential.

MiniMall by doofer

I enjoyed the humor -- girls hitting all the clothing stores, dragging their boyfriends, etc. It would be nice to somehow 'unlock' more shops or something, so there was something new to do/look forward to.

Unknown by dgriff

Great work. Awesome game, awesome music.

Leap , at least it’s something… by Devon

Very impressive for just learning python and pygame. It's a good start, and your extreme expressionism (at least what you were planning) is entertaining. Biggest complaint - no way to restart. Maybe its a bug, but when I die it just sits there, tanks keep falling, and that horrible death noise plays every 10 seconds or so.

Brainwave by Deepflame

So... I'm not really sure what the point is... We both move at the same terribly slow pace through a hallway, and nothing happens. Picking arrows seems trivial, and in the few minutes I played there was a single right and no left. Since you can't move left, the powerups are useless, and the whole experience is just frustrating/boring. Also, none of my keys made it speed up, and there was no music, only sound.

Omnihunter by Dathgale

OMG I just realized you are moving and can control which direction you are going... Still, that doesn't change how freaking hard it is. Please, a background for goodness sake or something else for reference!

I didn't have any trouble running it, but that is because I wrestled with the STUPID pyOpenGL dependency on site packages (from what I could tell it only uses it to check which platform you are on too, which is a TERRIBLE reason for another dependency). Anyway, I sympathize with the compatibility problems.

As good as it is going to get by creiht

I killed some rats, it never said they hurt me, then I died for no reason. It's cool that you have it running -- flesh it out and make a game out of it.

Things on Top of Other Things by chrisp

Good, solid game. The bow at the end was a nice touch.

Too minimal for a name… by bluescrn

Awesome! Gameplay is a LOT of fun and it all is very minimalist while looking great. Get some cute sounds to match the blob and you're golden.

food poisoning, oh noes! After reading the comments and realizing it was a 'compelete' game, I went back in and finished it. Good job - I like the effects, but the menu fade-in/out was really slow. It's probably my crap machine, but it really got in the way.

Fellas, gravitating shots is where its at! The purple (gravitated) shots make the targets grow, which net you more points.

SPOILER:
I like the gravitating concept, but it would be nice to have more of a point. It seems the best way to score points is to just sit on the side and gravitate shots right at the edge of the target so they all still hit it. Doing this I got my highscore of 1,572,918 without really trying. I'd like to see gravitating fleshed out more, and I'll probably rip it off in the next space shooter I do. :D
