Fun little idea. I wish I could change directions though, as when I screw up, I need to wait awhile.

Fun little idea. I wish I could change directions though, as when I screw up, I need to wait awhile.
yeah I wish I could change directions too. Maybe a couple of extra buttons for doing tricks. But I like it!
The best timelapse I've seen so far =)
Nicely done. An another idea to minimize "waiting" would be to add a "game speed 10X" button you could hold down to fast forward. Skate or die, dude.
Game/presentation in itself isn't extremely minimal, but theme score is safe anyway because it's valid as a minimalistic interpretation of the Tony games, which are relatively complex in comparison. I doubt it'd be possible to distill it further without losing all meaning.
I would have liked some feedback on the kickflip move. It's nice to try and hammer a few of those in between rails just to rack up the multiplier, but it's also pretty dull since you're just incrementing a number without any animation or sound to go with it. A short back-and-forth animation with the board or even just a "blurp" sound would have made it more rewarding.
Was close to giving up on the last level due to missing various jumps/rails and having to go through the same section at the bottom over and over, but I toughened up and made it through eventually.
Thumbs up overall.
(I still can't get over how cool a name that is... I can only imagine the look on your face when you went "tiny skater... tiny skater... there has to be something better here, tiny - waiddaminute!")
[EDIT: "someone" pointed out to me that the kickflip is indeed animated, though I had to look real hard to see it... oh well, even more minimalism!]
Pretty fun... It was a little difficult to get a hang of doing grinds for me. Love the Name.
Fun game, sometimes it was a little frustrating, I keep forgetting to keep the jump key down. But in the end I was able to complete all the levels. I also would have liked a button to change directions, but I guess having only 1 button is more minimalist.
Very cool! Only problems were not being able to change direction, and having to hold the jump button on the rails. My finger got pretty darn tired ;-(
Very good in most of the categories. I think everything else has already been said. One of the best so far.
Everyone's mentioned it, but, very nicely done. Could use a 'change direction' button, but otherwise, good job.
I may be in the minority here but I didn't find the lack of the 'turn around' button to be a problem. I was able to get a hang of the controls fairly quickly and complete all 6 levels. I guess it would seem there would be more waiting if one was falling through the rails a lot.. ;) Anyway, this game was really enjoyable and I liked the music loop and the graphics and game play reminded me of one of my old faves, Lode Runner. Great job on this, and like most have said, great name!
I like the concept, the art is nice, and it's fun to play! The only complaint I have is that the movement is a bit slow. Speeding it up a bit would reduce the pain of making a small mistake, in turn making the last level less annoying.
Also, the collision code isn't perfect, you can jam yourself into the top-right of the last level by wall-jumping repeatedly. Won't dock points for that though. =)
As other people mentioned, a change direction or speed up button would have been really useful. Took me ages to do the last level because I kept missing rails and then having to go all the way back up. Overall a well polished and fun game, well done.
On the one hand, it's clearly one of the best entries, on the other hand, I am too uncoordinated to get a hold of grinding :( I don't even think you'd have to extend the set of controls to fix the waiting for people like me, a few blurbs in the landscape to jump against (and turn around) would have been enough :)
Oh, and also really loved the name!
Extremely tedious if I mess up. It helps that I can jump into a wall to turn myself around. Other than that, the minimal physics are really cool.
Neat game :) minimalist controls and graphics. A nice set of levels, would've be cool if there was a couple of harder levels and no restriction on the trick multiplier :)
Great game just the timing was damn comfusing espicially for grind wall jump combos. Great use of minimal graphics, sound and controls.
Quite fun, though I wish the guy would move faster.
Sort of fun, but a bit too minimal for me. Changing directions would have done a lot for me. I liked the low-res art.
Cool game! Sometimes it felt like it wasn't picking up my keypresses (especially when try to walljump up a long column) but other than that, a very solid entry. Sticks to the theme very well and is fun at the same time! Good work. (Also, the name is *perfect*)
In the timelapse, it looks like you are playing the song on your keyboard. Speaking of the timelapse, your original detailed skater was cool! But it was right to make it minimal.
I'm a fan of this, I've made a ninja game very similar, right down to the wall-jumping. And it's minimal, and the name, and skateboarding is cool!
I had a problem with grinds failing, but not right when I hit the rail - sometimes they'd fail way towards the end. Probably after trying to throw in a kickflip, but I'm somewhat sure I recovered the button in time.
I would've liked sound and a bigger animation on the kickflip. The other thing that bothered me, that is very tricky to deal with, is that there are parts in the level where you have no choice but to lose your combo. It would be awesome if there were a way to always keep it going, but the easy path didn't keep it, you'd have to do some outlandish ninja skills to pull it off. Then, with that the case, change the max combo to 99x, and you've got a game with a serious high score challenge! The experts would be racking up 70x before getting their first gem, the normals would be unlikely to ever even reach 10x in the first place.
It's all been said. Fun game. Awesome name. Wish I could turn around.
Minimalist controls. Very nice. A bit frustrating at times, but quite fun.
The controls were a bit iffy, I would've liked a second button that you'd hold when you're grinding or something and just one generic for jumping. Nice graphics and sounds. Somehow the game tempo seemed too fast at times, while at times you had to wait to get into position for your next jump. Maybe that's just something you have to do when skating though. :P
I really like everything about this except playing it. It's too frustrating to have to wait so longer after making a mistake just to change direction. That I wasn't so good at it didn't help either. The music was nice in the beginning, but quickly become repetetive and got connected to the long wait after a mistake.
Great fun but agree with others that being able to turn around would have been good.
I quite enjoyed this game. I've been toying with the idea of making a game with only a single control for a while, so it was interesting to see what someone else had done with that concept. I don't think a second button to turn around is needed. I liked the joke in the name. The music was fairly catchy too.
The levels presented a reasonable challenge, although as ever it might have been nice to see more of them and some sort of target (in terms of time or score) that you had to beat.
I noticed that the game had very high CPU usage on my 3 GHz Pentium 4.
great use of theme, funny. I enjoyed it but it was a bit too difficult for me to get the grinds. I love the "tricks" that were just one or two pixels different.
