LD11 — Minimalist (26)

Unknown by Wiering

Much too slow to be challenging; it's an endurance version of Qix. Technically, I can't find any problems with it, and the background image mechanic is creative.

Castle Adventure by Viridian

I may as well not have a sword. It's better to just kite the monsters in the beginning. The game reminds me of the tile-based zelda games. It was engaging for a few minutes, but got boring once I had the bow.

RPG Battle Simulation by thedaian

It needs either an overland map or a lot more options and math visible to the player in order to be interesting. Or both.

CGA Quest by SpindleyQ

That was good. The timing level probably should have been the last level, because the one after it was trivial in comparison. I like how the cyan guy hops when you win the game. More levels, please.

Color eater by lucasshrew

Either something's really weird about the mouse acceleration, or there's something wrong with my mouse. I can't make the ball fly consistently, and getting into position to try really high jumps repeatedly if I miss a platform is tedious.

Pixelman 3 by pymike

Very good. The game is hard because of the non-constant character velocity and the narrow platforms you have to land on. The interface is annoying at times-- the dot next to the menu options doesn't line up, the "You Crashed" and "Game Over" screens can't be skipped, and the player character's bounding box is wider than his feet-- but these problems don't detract significantly from the game.

The Pushers by phren

Creative. Can't play it for long without getting bored, though.

win32.dll The Game by philhassey

Amusing. I think there was another game like this that actually required you to click on the X button, and sometimes the popups appeared partially off-screen so you had to drag them into view to click the button.

Tiny Hawk final release by pekuja of Polygon Toys

Extremely tedious if I mess up. It helps that I can jump into a wall to turn myself around. Other than that, the minimal physics are really cool.

Battle Magic Done! by MrPhil

I figured it out. The trick is to keep your health as high as possible with as few minions in play as possible, otherwise the next encounter will destroy you before you can even the competition.

Very good submission. It would be nice if all the combat prompts displayed all of the effects involved, like how minions on the losing side still hit the opposing player. I want to see this game when meditate and pray do something, and when the AI reacts to the state of the game instead of choosing spells randomly.

Framed! v1.1 Released by mikeware

I don't get it. Every time I clear the screen, a bunch of colored frames appear for no apparent reason and I lose.

(T+48:48) Final Entry: BlockOut v0.LD48_11 by LoneStranger of LoneStranger Designs

It's an endurance game. It starts so easy I can't possibly lose, and the difficulty setting doesn't increase.

You've got a good idea, though. If the computer were smarter and the ball bounced more sharply, then I would have to budget my resources and the game would be more interesting. Or you could even remove the AI entirely and make the object of the game to keep the ball in play for as long as possible (and open up the entire top of the screen if you do this, otherwise adding blocks is unnecessary).

Col-4 by jolle

I got up to a little over 30 points when the blocks went into the top and I could rotate them, but I couldn't make use of the feature except as extra space.

Please make it speed up over time; that was mind-numbing.

There Is No Screwdriver by JamesDM

Ok, so a lot of games out there make you hit everything with your sword. This game, on the other hand, make you poke everything with your screwdriver. It's too linear to have any replay value, but I'm interested in where the story is going.

Technically, it needs a lot of work, but once you make yourself look past that (and a lot of coders don't...) it's really good considering you learned your first programming language as you made this.

Divine Asteroid Showdown by jakbob

The game has a decent concept behind it, but the implementation leaves things to be desired. The first thing I noticed was the bad spelling/grammar. Please: "atheism", "its", "mouse button".

Playing the game, I found the first level with only one planet to be far too easy, and after that I pretty much had to concentrate on one planet, because I can't react to space junk entering the screen and hitting a planet right next to the edge of the screen, at least not with the practice I'm willing to put into this game.

The second time I played the game, I had read the instructions ("Pray to God"? Well, it's obvious what that's supposed to be -now-...) and so experimented with spinning the planetary shields. It takes a bit of effort, but I can get into the rhythm of spinning them all the way around very fast. With practice, nothing can ever hit any of my planets. I quit during the second level because it became too easy.

If the planets were closer to the center, the space junk flew slower, and the barriers were limited in how fast they could turn, then I think it would be a reasonably entertaining game.

The Hunt for Pepsi Blue by Jach

Really annoying. The cars are too fast to aim at effectively because the tank turns too fast to control, and its shots are too slow and weak. (It takes TWO tank shells to kill a car? Since when?) The vehicles' unpredictable behavior also made it impossible to prioritize my targets. I just had to fill the screen with my projectiles and hope the parking lot didn't fill.

MinMo LD11 by HybridMind

Extremely tedious waiting for the columns to move. There's no strategy in the game either-- just stay next to the walls and turn mo whenever a red snake is about to touch you. If there were a timer and you had some control over the columns, or if the red snakes were more intelligent and made it so you could die from something other than carelessness, then the game could be more interesting.

And the red snakes need a squishing animation for when you fall on them.

Still Pond by Hamumu

Nice beginning. The fourth level woke me up. After that it was not nearly as funny.

Sailor by gustav

Nice. I haven't seen anything quite like it. It's pretty entertaining for several minutes, but the physics only seem to allow for a few general types of boat shapes. Sometimes the collision detection breaks and lets a water particle inside my boat through a diagonal.

WORLDMAKER by eugman

I like the game concept, but the game seemed rather arbitrary. I had once chance... to make no mistakes. And it doesn't tell me how the elements interact; I just have to guess. When I got it right on my third try, I opened the source file and was surprised to find out that there are actual game mechanics. I couldn't tell because I'm not given enough options in order to narrow down what I'm supposed to do.

But like Jach says, not bad for 3 hours.

dots by erik

Interesting idea. It was pretty fun the first two times through.

Exxon – The decontaminator by drZool

I like the concept, but the game is kind of tedious. Without a lose condition it's more of a "toy" than a game, much like SimCity. I like the artwork. It reminds me of Abstract Sea (http://crazymonkeygames.com/Abstract-Sea.html).

Marginal Ungolf Spectacle by DrPetter

I like how the terrain isn't tile based. Not much else to say about it, though; there are at least hundreds of platformers more or less like this out there.

Things on Top of Other Things by chrisp

I've seen this kind of game before, and the available levels are too easy. It's a nice application, though. Very stable; everything runs smoothly.

Game by alex

It would be nice if it didn't lag, and if the blue block moved at a useful pace, or if the yellow blocks would actually keep the red blocks away, or if there weren't so much ghosting that I can't see what's happening.

Micro Macro by PoV

Very confusing the first time through, not challenging the second time through. It's not bad for 2.5 hours, though. You have a nice set of math libraries.
