Cool stuff! A little lacking in islands though...
Haha, that was pretty fun, I liked the particle sort of effect for blood and dirt and stuff.
No luck running it in Windows (I installed pygame and python), next time I boot into Ubuntu or Arch I'll give it a try from there though.
That was awesome! It took a second for me to understand how everything worked and the controls were a little iffy without a game pad, but that was actually really fun. Nice work!
Not sure if it's just the windows version, but that was waaaaaaaay too fast.
Haha, that was amazing...
No luck here (on win7 64bit), same prob as the others... I'll give it a go in Linux next chance I get though...
There's definitely potential, but the controls were really awkward.
I managed 13,000 points.
The most I got was about 15 seconds before crashing... so I won't rate it for now, but definitely post it when you've got fixes, it sounds interesting :)
No luck running it here either :( I have .NET 4.0 and the latest XNA redist installed.
Clever little game, nice work! (worked for me in win7 (pro x64) after turning on xp compatibility mode).
Interesting concept, but that fish is too d*mn fast...
Cool concept, you should totally keep working on this!
Interesting concept, nice work! (my head hurts now...)
Simple, but fun mechanic! I couldn't quite get that last one...
Cool concept! definitely release a post-compo version.
Yeah, I'm seeing broken links here :( nothing in the source link either? This looked cool anyways, I'll check back later.
Didn't work :( here's the error (I did install the latest dX runtime):
" is not a valid Win32 application. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800700C1)At: at Islands.AudioPlayer..ctor(Control ptr)
at Islands.Canvas.InitDevices()"
Cool art style, nice work!
Um... sorry, but no.
I *love* the graphics, though I have to agree that it is a bit too easy.
Simple, but fun. Nice music/art also, but I can't rate you on it since you didn't do it :/
Cool (and fun) concept! I couldn't get it to run on my main computer (win7 64), but it ran on my secondary machine (xp 32).
Fun! I'm not seeing much in the way of islands, but then again "islands" doesn't *have* to mean the tropical variety... overall very nice.
Awesome art!
I'm really not into sliding puzzles but that car is just so cute :D
An interpretation of the theme that I like, except the cars-getting-stuck bug in the fourth level :( I compiled a Mac version too (Universal Binary): http:/www.raschke.de/julian/temp/CrazyTaxiMac.zip
Love it :D Bonus points for the Mac port. And what was that breakfast? It looked undefinable, but healthy.
Haha, a bit too simplistic but that monster is adorable :P The oldschool look works well.
I packaged a Mac bundle at http://www.raschke.de/julian/temp/CoMuTor-mac.zip if anyone else needs it.
I guess I'll rate it above its average because I saw that there's a lot of work in the (good) map generator and that it's supposed to be against racing around like mad. Take a pause and view the big picture! etc. ;) There probably should be a readme that tells people about stuff like that.
Looks pretty cool but ran VERY slow on my Mac :( It was a bit hard to steer and I got stuck in a wall while trying to escape by driving backwards.
Way too hard, needs more lookahead and much less inertia in the controls. But has much potential! :)
Hah, I like roguelikes. :) I think it didn't have to be *that* minimal, in terms of landscape and everything, but still it's a flawless ASCII game.
Hmmm, when I crash into the mothership my health bar only grows to the left.
Not bad in terms of controls and themey graphics, but also way too hard :)
Missing MSVCP71.DLL or so...
Very painty and cool puzzle game. I thought the graphics should be interesting, and the controls could need some more tweaking. It's also hard to say if the concept would scale to a more complete game from four levels, if it does I would enjoy playing it!
Man, and I've been wondering what those moving circles were in your timelapse video :) It feels more like a gimmick, but a VERY cool one.
Hmm, might be because it ran inside a virtualized Windows, but it crashed when I was somewhere at the very bottom of the map :( I wished I could read messages from two moves ago or so. I often hit a button once too often to actually read what I just picked up. Nevertheless, making a Roguelike was a good choice for the theme.
Mmhhh Sapporo, a five for that! :P Truly great food photos.
I really really enjoyed it, and I haven't played a minute of Portal…actually reading that parts of this are recycled afterwards has made me a bit less euphoric. While it lasted, the evolving storyline worked for me, though.
It was nice playing an entry that wasn't a puzzler, had an interesting atmosphere and smooth controls, even on a laptop keyboard. Yay!
Doesn't work for me on a pretty standard Windows XP installation.
Everything being in one file saved you two points where I was in doubt ;) More levels would have made another one.
I actually really enjoyed it (platformer lover here :) ), but it could be more innovative. Solid entry.
Hahaha, great idea, and a very solid implementation. I think it should be signalled that it's a bad thing to miss the box and click onto the background :)
Very artsy/cool cookie photo, btw!
On the one hand, it's clearly one of the best entries, on the other hand, I am too uncoordinated to get a hold of grinding :( I don't even think you'd have to extend the set of controls to fix the waiting for people like me, a few blurbs in the landscape to jump against (and turn around) would have been enough :)
Oh, and also really loved the name!
I also haven't managed to draw a single minim. From the demo, the game seemed very complete though, and I loved the style of the graphics and sound.
Truly minimal, and a lot of bonus respect for using Scheme :) Direly needs more levels though, I would've kept playing for a while!
Timelapse is looking shockingly on-theme too ;)
New MacBook (with Intel X3100 chip) here and I only see a cursor, blackness and some balls I fire. I hear sounds of more happening, though. :( The console is also full of double frees.
On my headless Mac Mini (Intel GMA 950), it works, but is a bit hard over Screen Sharing. Pretty cool though.
Not really my style of gameplay. Would have been just as conceptually minimal with actual graphics :) But it seemed pretty complete. The game music made me feel positively nostalgic and I liked the instruction screen.
Bizarre. I liked the music and odd pieces like the overworld map :) Not too deep, but quick and easy fun.
Woah, definitely a very interesting entry with a lot of polish in unexpected places. Love the flowers. I think all of the graphics would have looked a bit cleaner (yet still minimal) with a more vector/antialiased look.
Very hypnotic soundscape, and one that still suits the theme well. Give it some really ambient background sounds and stereo for the rest of the sound effects (flowers, landing) and I'd play it just for that!
As others have said, gameplay suffers a bit from the randomness, and I also wasn't that good at crushing enemies. Should be easy to fix though :)
Was about to complain about the use of an installer, but then realized that this was only the post-compo version. Phew! :)
I actually think the concept is great, it's just the implementation that seems to be a bit half-hearted (sounds etc.) :( With (theme-compatible) graphics and a larger view it'd actually be pretty cool. Also, I think it should be a move limit instead of a time limit.
It is arbitrary, but since the message for losing is also artistic, there's nothing wrong with failing at first. Very creative for three hours.
Hmmm, I wonder if it's my virtualized Windows, but other games worked okay and this one's controls felt a bit weird, and it didn't look like it had proper vsync. I also felt it was a bit too minimalistic to not have a game over message between dying and respawning :)
But that's just nitpicking. It's fun! And the pizza makes me hungry too.
Really cool technically, but suffers from the shortness in almost every category—except Audio of course :)
Not a too bad idea for a minimal game, and would probably have been a favorite if it were complete :)
Same here, too bad it's not standalone :)
It has this magically addictive atmosphere of being a game that uses a proper physics engine, but it's too minimal on the other accounts. Blob cuteness and controls are well done though! :)
This actually was pretty smooth technically, unlike I would have expected from Java, I must admit. But I didn't really enjoy playing it a lot, it was a bit confusing and too much going on at once. But since this is the same reason for which I don't like Super Smash Brothers, I guess other people will disagree ;)
Oops, forgot my highscore :( It was a lot higher when I semi-understood the right mouse button though :)
But yes, it's really very vague :)

Almost Heroic by xvw 2015-09-02T19:00:00
Just finished the game, loved the style and the silliness (the monad book >_<). 2/5 for Theme, but I really loved the combat system. I'd play a complete RPG with 'arrow fighting' if it was properly beat-synced :P
They Came in the Night by kakuremino 2015-08-27T18:44:00
Absolutely loved the music on headphones, great atmosphere! I'm not sure if I understood all the mechanics - pulling words out of the aether or answering the question didn't do anything, but I decoded all the human talk and finished the game anyway :)

Simple but effective :) Highscore around 26k!
Dinner In The Dark by DinnerInTheDark 2015-08-26T18:44:00
...of course you cannot eat your prey before you've reached the dinner table :P
Great atmosphere and really good use of the theme!
Vamp Tramp by ghostlyguru 2015-08-26T18:33:00
Nice atmosphere! No problems with the text rendering at all.
A couple of issues: Took me a bit to understand that I had to -click- to get to the next line of text (I tried pressing every button on my keyboard instead...) - and I once ran into a bug where there was no option in a sub-menu, because I'd tried every option before, and then I had to quit the game.
GERM by pokipsy 2015-08-26T18:26:00
Yay, a game with gamepad support, +1 for that! I had to read the comments here to understand how the game works, though: I thought the five orbs were seeds, and I couldn't figure out how to kill enemies (sometimes I still get hurt when I jump on them). Plus I once got stuck in space when jumping up from the first planet.
BUT, there's a lot to love about this game too :) I enjoyed the circular worlds and found the controls intuitive enough on a gamepad, and the animation when planting a seed is really well-done!
Veggie Defense by Wumbo 2015-08-25T22:22:00
Why do you have to register to play the game? The second screen during registration also looked a little broken (offset to the left?).
TOMB SOLDIERS by MechanicMoon 2015-08-25T22:21:00
*Great* work on the graphics and sounds, and solid programming (apart from the stairs :P). If anything, I felt that the focus was too much on luck and timing, and less on actual puzzles.
+1 for the werewolf priest :D
The Empty by fdslk 2015-08-25T22:05:00
The screenshots look tempting, but my Windows VM does not support the DirectX 11 level 10 profile :|
Y U so Serious ? by Mathieu Muller 2015-08-25T22:04:00
Would love to play this, but my Windows 7 VM does not fulfill the XNA HiDef profile =(
Sewer Glue by Damdoshi 2015-08-25T22:02:00
Authentic retro feeling, gameplay is light-hearted and fun.
(I was running this in a fresh installation of Windows 7, and the game wouldn't run because openal32.dll was missing. I had to pull it from another game and then it worked.)
Super Boss by Daukan 2015-08-25T21:31:00
Ha, took me a while to figure out the controls for the trap placement screen. Interesting concept!
An usual Day In a Troll's life by ajopart 2015-08-25T21:19:00
+1 for the Angry Mob billboard image :D
Flesh & Fish by metalchouchen 2015-08-25T21:12:00
I think it didn't work for me? - I kept jumping around until I got fired, jumping didn't work on the gamepad and attacking worked with neither gamepad nor keyboard. Might be an issue with my Windows VM.
Aglæca by philomory 2015-08-25T21:03:00
This is definitely a game you should run at least twice, to see how the world is randomly generated. It also took me a while to understand the difference between day and night, but I think part of the fun is figuring it all out. Destroying a few cities felt pretty good.
I like how the text fades in when you leave the game, looks great!
(Bug report: It crashed once when I was in a town, but I didn't run it from the command line and have no backtrace to post :()
PixelMonster by shawn42 2015-08-25T19:39:00
Great work in the short timespan, and congrats on child #3 :) It's a bit too slippery for my taste, but the concept was really interesting. I wonder how well it'd work with larger levels - at some point you probably have to understand the precise formula for mixing colours?
Ollie's Journey by brombatti 2015-08-25T19:31:00
LOVED the graphics, but to be honest I didn't finish the game after dying too many times. I left some categories on N/A because I probably missed the point of the game ^^"
- Jumping from platforms is just too unforgiving. It feels like you have to start jumping in the middle of a platform if you don't want to drown and start over. I'm not sure if this is an issue with my VM (input lag?), but other games work fine.
- No button to run! :(
- I fullscreen-ed the game on my 21:9 screen (alt+Enter), and the game started showing some artefacts beyond the level boundaries. Pressing alt+Enter again didn't make the window resizable again, so I quit and started over. No big deal though
+1 overall point for gamepad support!
Murderers by Gammel 2015-08-25T18:38:00
The primary skill really needs an animation - even after reading the Tutorial I didn't know if I had to click *on* enemies or just in the general direction of them. It didn't help my confusion that enemies can take two hits :)
I enjoyed the visual style and the menu before starting the game.
