LD23 — Tiny World

Materia by Tempest 2012-04-26T05:29:00

@mikolalysenko, I wish Unity would build to Linux. :( I think Chrome for Linux is the closest to having support for the Unity plugin.

@Wyzfen - Thanks! Yes, you need to get more feedback both when you've earned enough points, and when there aren't any more points left to be earned on the level.

@CappaGames - Thanks! Yes, that is a design issue. As the levels increase, so does the likelihood of Volatile materia. At about level 10, it starts getting more difficult to simply go for the core without running into 2-3 Volatile.

@TSJ666 - Thanks! Zooming is actually a pretty easy thing to add, and I will be looking into that in a future update.

Materia by Tempest 2012-05-04T00:41:00

@Azurenimbus - Thanks!

@iximeow - I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm sorry you encountered that issue. I'll take a look into it and see if I can reproduce the error. Yes, the messaging over the points/next level could really use some improvement.

@Matthias_zarzecki - Thanks!

@Shifty - Thanks! I agree, in a future update. Music and sound was just too much for what little time I had.

@Ouuo - Thanks for playing. I (regretfully) didn't test up that high. I can imagine it takes a long time to load! Sorry about that. That is a LOT of cubes!

Yea, I got to level 12 before things started chugging, and then crashed. I apologize, but expect the web player to be a but unstable at that point.

LD24 — Evolution

Space evolution by wurstknifte 2012-08-28T19:29:00

+ I liked the zoom in/out controls.
+ I liked the random generation of planets, stars, black holes.

- Instructions/Details on the specific buildings is required.
- I kept running out of money or food, regardless of what I built.
- I played about 10 rounds, but failed all within a minute because of lack of resources.

Evo by DaveDobson 2012-08-30T07:38:00

+ Excellent! Love how many different levels there were!
+ Very cute characters
+ Great mechanic/puzzle of hatching specific mutations. Very lemming-ish.

Enjoy it immensely.

RobotCity by ahm99 2012-08-28T19:44:00

Will try to play/rate later. Right now I'm getting the same error as Thurig.

Hey, Little Amoeba! by decultured 2012-08-29T00:31:00

+ Graphics were nice.
+ Love the physics of the cluster! Just wanted to move it around to see what it did.
+ The setting fit into the theme, I was anticipating *something* evolving.
+ Nice text and over UI look.

- Not really a game, no win/lose/change.

Congrats on finishing. I really liked just playing and moving the character, and the graphics and audio were very pleasing.

Assimilation by Merigrim 2012-08-29T08:38:00

+ Playing was a good challenge.
+ Music fit the game very well (kinda of retro-ish
+ Graphics and UI looked great, very tight and polished.

- Scrolling was difficult (Mac mouse/touch pad, not as easy a scroll-button mouse
- Unfortunate that the game only lasts about 30 seconds.

Congrats on finishing and good on you for trying something new!

Bakeneko by Tempest 2012-08-28T22:47:00

@braingale - Thanks! Yes, I wish the controls were a bit more intuitive. I was contemplating just letting the cats auto-attack at a certain range. Challenging/balance/bosses, varying waves was definitely an idea and will be expanded upon in a post-compo build.

@BMacIntosh - Thank you! Yes, I definitely intended for hotkeys to be for worlds as well, but it appears I've missed it! Will be included in post-compo.

@Mclogenog - Yes, it was an auto-aim tower defense. The text was there to create a story/world/purpose to the TD.

- The strategy can break down to just key-mashing at times, yes. The challenge will be increased in future builds, where certain worlds would become un-accessible. I'm thinking (mentioned above) of having the cats auto-attack, so you can focus just on the environment, and maybe some bonuses to award to the cats, to guide their growth rather than spend time deploying them.

Yes, I love when cubes construct/destruct. Thanks for the compliment.

I will improve the explanation and complexity in the next build for sure.

@rmatey - Thanks! The cats evolve slowly if they just earn points from banishing their targets. However, if you change the world, the cat will evolve much quicker.

Banishing a red cube = small amount of red experience.
Activating Inferno world - Cat will gain XP over time (traveling to, from target).

Bakeneko by Tempest 2012-08-30T01:40:00

@Mclogenog -- Thank you for your support and encouragement! I am considering continuing with this and seeing where it goes.

@ConflictiveLabs -- Thank you! Yes, too much text seems to be an issue. I originally thought there wasn't enough. I wanted a much smoother way to introduce each cat and world. Thanks again!

@Mach60KAS -- I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yea, I realize all my LD entries tend to be peaceful/soothing. Thanks, and yes I hope to expand it soon :)

3 Apples High by Dayko 2012-08-29T17:39:00

+ Excellent! I love the level/scene design.
+ The growth/shrink mechanic is done well and paced nicely.
+ Art, models and characters all excellent for a 48-hour game!

- Game is repetitive, but doesn't get boring for me until after I've unlocked all the growth stages, so you have ~1-2 minutes of attentive gameplay.

Recommendation would be to give a point every second the game is running (like Canabalt), but give a multiplier bonus for the total apples collected. Have the game gradually speed up until they hit a fence, then slow down again.

Time to Grow up! by wezrule 2012-08-28T19:53:00

+ Good open-world exploration scene.
+ Music was good, set the exploration/adventure mood.
+ I liked the animal models/animations.

- The light source was too intense, and over-saturated some of the terrain.
- There didn't seem to be a game or objective.
- Didn't seem to demonstrate the theme.

Congrats on finishing!

Existence : Evolving with Videogames by Richard Matey 2012-08-28T22:38:00

I thought the drug dealer was clever, as in so many games your character is just "collecting coins/items", which half the time belong to someone/something else. I think this would have made more sense if there was a transition between world 1 and 2 as well.

I thought I would get a weapon (since he mentioned it), which I thought was the perfect evolution from 2d platformers/adventure games to a 3d era with a magnitude more shooters.

+ Nice art, sfx and music.
+ Great idea/theme
+ I love that that you kept the same assets from World 1 and 2 in World 3. It was great to see the 3D version of the worlds I had already encountered.
+ Three different worlds, with 3 different control schemes is impressive for 48 hours.

- A bit jumpy with camera and controls in world 2, and camera too sensitive in world 3.
- A bit rough on the collisions.

A Game of Life by cptroot 2012-08-28T22:02:00

Same issue as above. Will bookmark and return later for playing/rating if it is fixed, or instructions on how to proceed.

Ludum Card Evolution by Atridas 2012-08-30T07:30:00

On Mac (Chrome) the progress bar loads, but then the screen stays white. Will try again on a Windows machine.
