installer =(
If you are to break the rules, state that early and have a good reason. You could have made the background wrap. Nice explosion effect. A bit dull game play.
I'm trusting the powers at be to disqualify the entry if it did break the rules. Here's my feedback:
Pretty basic shooter. I found it kinda hard to hit enemies though. I think it would help a lot if the stream of bullets your ship shot was stedier. It would also be nice if the game didn't end right away if you get hit.
Not that it necessarily is a negative, but why did the game need an installer?
Not a bad shooter, although I quit when it didn't seem to get harder or end!
I'm not taking the music into account when rating since the info with data files indicates it is taken from this site: http://www.entropymusic.com/
(which is not allowed by compo rules)
installer AND outside music? oh noes!
Played for awhile until I realized that wave after wave of 5 crabs was all there was. :) Liked the textured background though and the graphics were nice. Seems like if you had gotten waves of baddies in there it would have been a basic, fun shooter to entertain for a little bit anyway, better luck next time! :)
like everyone said, installers for 1/2 baked games is a nono. from what ive played it seems like a basic shooter. the entry broke the rules with the music so i guess i cant rate it
Might look into after all valid entries.
No installers for me.
Having an installer was kinda overkill for this small a game. Definitely needs instructions since I didn't really get the point of the game (are you supposed to only move or is there a button for shooting, too?). Pretty basic idea for the gameplay. Very nice menus though. :)
Shooters are usually fun, but not very innovative. Despite the theme, more than on enemy type would have been nice .. not enough variation (or did I not play for long enough). The origami background was pretty, included some nice particle effects, and the gameplay/controls were good and responsive for a shooter. No sound ? [rant]Would prefer a zip rather than an installer; in fact the whole package smacks of crapware since it also installed a "more fun games" link ... I'm all for promotional opportunities (indie games need all the attention they can get), but maybe just put your URL in the title screen .. we can type it in or Google "piddlepup games" if we want more.[/rant]
Decided not to actually vote after reading the comments about the music. Try again next LD ... I'm sure you can produce something brilliant within the rules.
-1 point in polish for having an installer. It's annoying when going through hordes of compo entries.
Apart from that, presentation is overall good. Music is nice, sounds are okay. Background graphic looks pretty but doesn't tile well. Framerate was pretty bad on my computer, which seems a bit strange as there wasn't really much going on. Whenever I killed an enemy things would lag down to a handful of fps, making it hard to control and aim properly.
The game appears to be quite repetitive, with the same enemy pattern appearing over and over. I didn't play for too long though (due to that very reason)
