LD17 — Islands (7)

Island Skate Delivery Boy by mklee

I really enjoyed this game! Graphics are very nice as well, particularly the title screen. Reminds me a lot of Adventure Island. :)

Got to 310 points, though I had some trouble getting the keys to respond well since the game was running a little choppily on this machine (P4 3Ghz).

Well done!

Deep Under an Island by Sparky

Very nice game. I'd have liked to see a few more levels as well. I particularly enjoyed the visuals. Just as polished, yet clean and simple to understand, as I have come to expect your games to be.

Well done!

Nuclear Test by sf17k

This game is rather unforgiving. I didn't really understand if getting to the end led to anything aside from showing you the island from above.

Interesting graphical effects, though they're of course a bit... overzealous in their indieness. ;)

I like it more than I expected I would. Pretty cool game. :)

Isles of Color by Jonathan Whiting

This is a really cool entry. Splendid visuals, and pretty nifty audio as well (although it got a little repetitive after a while).

Very nice use of well-known mechanics. I think you managed to combine them into a well-designed game in a clever way.

I do think the post-compo version feels better than the original - not unexpectedly, I suppose :)

Monkey Islands by Wiering

Very nice graphics, and pretty cool audio. As you know, of course, there's no gameplay in here. :)

Pleochorism by smn

I love it! Gameplay is lots of fun, there's a huge amount of levels (for an LD game, at least), and the mechanics are fairly innovative. The auido is really nice as well.

I agree that being able to hold the arrow keys down would be neat (though it shouldn't repeat too quickly).

Well done!

Island of Bounty by Ashkin

As you are no doubt aware, this game is not currently in a state finished enough to make it last any longer period of time.

However, I think you've got a pretty cool arrow-firing mechanic. I could see this turning into a fun game with some additional work and a bunch of enemies to kill. :)

LD16 — Exploration (4)

Apocalypse Adventure by Hempuli

Really solid entry. Good fun to play, nice graphical style, and lots of content. It's pretty hard, though. :)

Jimmy's Adventure by Wiering

Very neat. I like the visuals a lot, they're... hm. For lack of a better word: cuddly.

Although a bit short, this is a very enjoyable game. Well done! :)

Ezo by C418

Five stars for audio from me - I really like it. I like the visuals as well, very nicely styled minimalistic graphics.
The game itself doesn't feel all that much like a game.

Chopface by DrPetter

Cute character, and excellent sounds. Not much of a game, as you no doubt already know. :)

LD15 — Caverns (36)

Bunker by jazmeister

I think the concept is great. I played the game all the way through, and the levels are clearly of varying quality. Some of them - especially the more mission-like "save one dude" levels - are really nice.

I definitely agree with Mag Roader on the click time limit. I think it should be a lot shorter.

The game could use a bit of polish and some more work on balance and level design, but overall, this is pretty neat.

Candle by Problem Machine

I really like this game. The gameplay is a bit too simple perhaps, and could use some more variation, but the mechanics are solid and the idea is great. The graphics are lovely as well, and the music is excellent. I love the atmosphere!

Well done! :)

In the Shadows by jph

I really do like the atmosphere, lighting works really well, and the music and sound effects are excellent. When it comes to gameplay, however, this doesn't feel quite finished.

I look forward to seeing what you can do with a full version. Keep up the good work! :)

Cavern Crawler (Final) by Osgeld

The audio is really great, and the game certainly matches the theme. I found it a little odd that rotation wasn't based on the center of the ship, but rather its lower left corner. It's also somewhat weird that you can spawn outside the cave and use this to your advantage, as those areas are mostly bigger than the inside of the cave. Apart from that, gameplay was alright, although some incentive to keep playing (like a highscore counter) would have been nice.

Well done :)

Ascent by Terry

Rather punishing. I think the gameplay was enjoyable nonetheless, but some parts were a little too frustrating. The bit right at the end with the two cannons gave me around 40 deaths, but I'd only died 10 or so times before that (in other words, 50 deaths in total). It was weird to me that the tile graphics changed from the nicer ones with proper edges to rough squares somewhere halfway through the game.

Well done, especially for one day! :)

Rex's Cavernous Survival Horror Game Thing by doohan

I think some more feedback to the user would be great. Being able to more clearly see when you're firing or not, and more easily seeing where you're hitting would help a lot.

The level could be a bit more user-friendly; getting around (especially to the top right corner) is pretty hard.

I like the zombie penguins.

Well done :)

The Walls are Not Cheese by Sparky

I love the concept, and the graphics are really charming despite their relative simplicity. I do think the post-compo version shows real improvement over the contest version, and I would really like to see you taking this idea even further.

Well done! :)

Cave Trip by agj

I think this might've been pretty cool if it was indeed synced to music, but as it is, there's not really any gameplay in there. The graphics are pretty charming :)

Knight of the Cave Dragon by Jonny D

Gameplay isn't too bad, but it could use some better collision, more fine-tuned controls, and more variation (I haven't yet tried the post-compo version, but I understand you've fixed some of these issues there). I like the lighting. The sprites are pretty decent, but the terrain is a bit simple-looking in comparison.

Well done :)

CavernMinerThingyThing by mathias

I played and enjoyed this for a good while, until I ran out of ladders accidentally (I thought I had bought ladders, but I guess I forgot).

I'm not convinced I like the idea of being irreversibly stuck - perhaps you could have some method for letting the player start, but losing some of his resources or placed ladders or something such. If no new resources are spawn and the bottommost ladders are removed when you get stuck, you still won't be able to afford getting stuck too many times.

If you really want to keep that mechanism, though, a "buy as many ladders as you can afford, or fill it up to 10" choice would be helpful (since they're so cheap anyway). I also think an upgrade for ladder carrying capacity would be nice (perhaps they could be in the lorry?).

Overall, really nice game. Great work!

EDIT: After writing all this, I realized I could've gotten myself out of trouble. I was only missing one ladder piece and could've jumped to the next one if I'd realized you could throw stuff out to jump higher. Oh well :)

A Matter Of Life Or Death At The Caverns Of Deep And Dark by ragnor

Weird, somebody else said it was way too fast to be playable on Linux - for me (on Win XP) it was super slow. Collision detection was pretty weird, I could walk through walls most of the time. There's not a lot of gameplay here.

I think you're onto a good start though, and cave generation seems fine :)

Excavatorrr by Hempuli

I'm giving you a higher overall score for having made two games (although I admit to not having tried cavefrog yet - I will).

Excavatorrr graphics are simple but nice, and the game has a lot of charm (chain reactions, yum!). I think the gameplay could use some changes. There are a bunch of issues, mostly related to the ladders. Hopefully they'll be fixed in the post-compo version.

Well done! :)

NICE CAVE! by dock

I love it! Excellent graphics, of course, and the little messages were all very entertaining. The penguins are absolutely adorable! I surprised myself giving you rather high marks for audio, mostly because of the penguin sound.

Well done! It's definitely one of my favorites for LD15 - glad to see you finished something this time. :)

Cave Jimmy by SpaceManiac

I think you've got a promising concept here, but the umbrella is never really needed (since there are no long jumps and no falling damage), and the game has only one beatable level (although the other one has some good things going for it, like the secret door - assuming it was that, and not a bug). I'm giving you a decent score in the fun category, mostly because I think it would be fun to play if you added some clever level design and made better use of the game mechanics. The graphics could definitely use a touch-up.

Oh, and I like that you used a drawing program for the level editor.

Sufi by gadlor

I really like the music. Gameplay-wise and graphics-wise, this is a pretty simple game. Going by your journal, you're generating and using slopes in an interesting way, which is nice. Sadly, that doesn't really shine through in the gameplay.

Cool blogging, you've put a lot of effort into it.

Well done :)

Cave In by Daz

I got just over 2700 points. Nice game for two hours, but not something I'd play for hours on end :)

Well done!

Cevern0048 by Sophie Houlden

Excellent game! Graphics-wise, it's truly outstanding. I must admit that the surfing sounds are a bit annoying to me. In any case, the game is good fun to play for a bit, and I like the concept.

Well done! :)

Spaceship in a Cave by jovoc

High marks for graphics and theme, it's a really lovely space cavern! :)

It's a shame that there's nothing to do in the game, though. :/

Super Bean Kid by dstrysnd

The hitboxes for the Not-Goombas are a little too big - or too unforgiving, perhaps. I'd like to give you full marks for audio, but I'm detracting one mark for the insanely loud volume (higher than anything else on my computer) and lack of volume control or mute button. The game is good fun, if a little hard. The gameboy feel is definitely there.

Well done! :)

Mineral Miner by GBGames

Maximum points for community, of course. You've put a lot of effort into your journal as always.

As for gameplay, this is a neat concept. The game could've used some more levels, and some fine tuning of the controls - for example, why wouldn't you let me move diagonally? It's also somewhat weird to me that the monsters can move through walls, but fair enough, I guess.

The graphics are rather simple. The audio is mostly fine, but I do agree that the quick sound repetitions upon collision are annoying.

Well done :)

Cavern Pong by phren

This could've used an AI opponent. Playing against myself isn't that much fun. In any case, the random obstacles don't really add anything for me, they mostly make the game play itself. It seems to run smoothly, and I like the idea of adding stuff to pong, but this game isn't quite there. You seem to have got ogre working fine though, good work!

Lava Caverns of Doom by bluescrn

Splendid gameplay, and wonderful graphics. As was the case with 0xf0, this is one of the best games I've seen in the contest. However, I don't think the theme is used a lot in this game.

In any case, this is an excellent entry! :)

The Caverns of WIll-o' by Lerc

The lighting effects are excellent, ant the terrain destruction works smoothly. The orbs are fun to watch for a while, but it seems there's nothing more to do than walking around and collecting a seemingly endless number of orbs.

With some more work, this could be really cool. :)

Cavern Greed by LunarCrisis

I really like this game. "Advancing wall of doom" meets "Cavern" :D

The faint shimmering of the tiles makes it seem like the air is hot, would've worked even better with a lava wall chasing the player I think.

Well done! :)

Grue by sol_hsa

It would've been easier to appreciate the joke if you'd actually seen the message - I thought it just crashed on me, since I didn't run it from the command prompt, and the program exited straight after the loss message.

I'm giving you a few points in "Community" for blogging even though you're not really entering. :)

Cave Dangerous by fydo

Lovely graphics. The gameplay would have been pretty decent if there had the game been more challenging. Some more action wouldn't hurt as well.

Well done! :)

Fake Gold by BlademasterBobo

I love the idea! It could definitely use a bit of polish, but the concept's clearly demonstrated and the game is fun to play for a while. With some additional work, I think you're really onto something here.

Polluted Caverns by astrofra

The graphics are amazing, just as I've come to expect from you. As was the case with your boat game, the game doesn't properly exit when you close the window - you have to shut down the process manually after that, which isn't very nice.

Gameplay is classic match three combined with physics, which might well have been fun had there been some challenge to it and more levels.

As pointed out by a number of other people, the in-game cursor doesn't match my real cursor, making it impossible to click the lower objects without deselecting the window.

Well done :)

spooky cavern by pb

The sound was somewhat frustrating. The visuals are pretty appealing, but I'm afraid they can't carry this game on their own. Collision seems weird (only partially related to the visuals?) and the gameplay is confusing.

Cave Bounce by Almost

I really liked this game. I didn't think much of it at first, but it was great fun once you got to the parts with the missiles. The horizontal controls seem a bit too sensitive, but apart from that, it plays really well.

I'm afraid I can't comment on the audio if there was any - I tried it on a machine without sound, and I can't try it on this one (download gets corrupted) :(

Well done!

Dwarven Rock Smash by Mag Roader

Of the games I've tried so far, this is likely the one that's been the most fun to play. While not spectacularly innovative, this feels like a solid, well-polished game. Well done!

"Life is Guano and Then You Die" by Jacob

Works fine, but seems unreasonably hard - the ctrl key gives me almost no lift at all, I have to keep clicking it like crazy to avoid dying by hitting the ground.

The graphics are really nice! The audio works well for the game. Oh, and very nice journal work. :)

Well done!

The Narwhal Bacons At Midnight by Svenstaro

The narwhal does indeed bacon at midnight!

I found this game rather hilarious. The narwhal and the messages worked great. Gameplay is alright, but would need more variation if it was to be used in a longer game.

I had a wonderful time playing this! :)

Heart of Gold by L

This game is amazing. I absolutely love it!
...with that said, it's also ridiculously punishing. Gasp!

I completed the game, but it took me well over an hour (I wasted like half an hour in one place!).

Well done! :)

Beacon by ChevyRay

Really nice game, excellent visuals, and very nicely tuned controls. The last three rooms were indeed *very* hard, but I eventually got past them. The ending is pretty amazing! :)

Some of the messages were a bit too arty for me, but it's not a big issue. The mood is pretty great anyway.

Well done!

Cave Fishter by DrPetter

This game is more fun than I expected it to be, and the audio is awesome (unsurprisingly, coming from you). The graphics are very simplistic but have a certain charm. I do not really feel that the theme is being used.

Nice work for a five hour entry :)

LD14 — Advancing Wall of Doom (22)

Harbinger by FourbitFriday

Very innovative, I love the idea!

The wall of doom is adorable! And I really like the character animations for the player character as well.

The gameplay doesn't quite do it for me. It needs to be a bit more fast-paced, I think.

Great work! :)

Unknown by X-0ut

This is impressive from a technical perspective, and quite fun to play. The controls could use a bit of refinement though. I didn't quite like the high "tower" part of level 5 (which I haven't managed to complete, it's just too hard for me).

Overall, a great entry that could use some further polish :)

arcticum by Tenoch

That is one extensive journal you've got going on there! Good work!

Now, to the game:
I really enjoyed playing it! Once. It doesn't have much in the way of replay value, but that's fine with me. The survival mode wasn't quite as entertaining.

I like the graphics, but bugs where the polygons get corrupted and / or drawn erroneously were fairly common.

I think the sound was a bit repetitive, but decent.

The game crashed instead of telling me I won. I will subtract some polish points for this...

I know from experience how tricky deformable polygon terrain can be, so well done there!

Overall, great work! :)

superflat’s Balls Of Legend [Mac / PC] by superflat

This game is far too punishing. I died two times after playing for a long while, both times thanks to silly mistakes. And I had to start all over again. The second time, I just gave up. I don't want to play that same first bit over and over again. That long level desperately needs to be replaced by several short levels. Or have some sort of checkpoint system.

This is probably the most visually pleasing game I've judged so far. Stunning!

It was also a great deal of fun until those deaths. If I'd never died and noticed that issue, I might have given you a 5 for fun. As it is, I'm going to have to detract from that score. Or perhaps polish, I'm not sure. :/

On a side note: Windows's "compressed folder" couldn't deal with your ZIP, I had to extract it with winrar. Something to think about for future contests. :)

Overall, an excellent entry. Lovely work!

By Touching It With Your Spikes by Super-Dot

I like the idea, but the implementation is a bit rushed. No surprise there, it's Ludum Dare after all :>

Having the first (and only?) level be impossible detracts a bit from the gameplay.

I think this could turn into an interesting game with some more work :)

We Control the Purple Creature by Sparky

I really like the concept, but the the difficulty needs to be balanced some. As I've already said, something to encourage raids into enemy territory, paired with increased difficulty, would've made the gameplay last longer.

While I like the graphics, I think it's too hard to distinguish the player from the orbiting purple dots. Perhaps the player should be bigger or in another color entirely (white?). I also think I agree with Xion in that there is a bit too much static.

Some of these issues have already been addressed in the post-compo version, which is a clear improvement of the final version.

I'd actually like to see this turned into a full game, with more features being introduced as you play (every one or two levels or so) - it could make for great strategic gameplay. Also, I wonder how this would work in multiplayer!

Well done! :)

Wall Defence by sol_hsa

Advancing wall of doom? More life advancing life-saving wall to the rescue! Well, apart from the fact that it kills, I suppose. And the fact that it uses your village as construction material.

Great idea. I definitely enjoyed playing this game. I got 208 points on my second try. :) I get the feeling that maybe sacrificing a hut or two would've been worth it to avoid using so much wall material... but I didn't really try to balance that trade-off, I just sent walls onto all the bad guys.

I tried brutal briefly, played without any real strategy, and ended up on 379 points on my first try there... and I died pretty fast. Perhaps the scoring shouldn't be multiplied so much by the level, I don't know. I liked brutal, though :)

Nice graphics, good use of sound, excellent polish. Well done!

The extravagantly excellent game about a ball shooting walls extreme hd turbo remix plus alpha EX 2000: the legacy: the movie: the game by Siiseli

Contrary to the other commenters, I don't think this really starts out too hard. However, it is something of an issue that you become immortal if you fall off the screen... :)

With some more fleshing out the concept this could probably be pretty cool. I can see this game working equally well without gravity, and powerups you could run around and collect... :)

A tip for next time: Stuff like "Drawing, input and timers" sounds like it could be part of a library, in which case you could prepare that in advance and upload it to the blog (so it doesn't take as much time in the contest). As long as you keep gameplay out of it. :>

DoomDrive by sf17k

I enjoyed this game for a while. The physics have a great feel to them! However, the lack of a scoring mechanism or goal hurts gameplay in the long run.

Well done! :)

Mind Wall by SethR

On a scale from 1-5, this is infinitely good.

I truly loved this game. It was great fun to play, it seemed innovative to me (I've never seen a game quite like this), and it was beautifully executed. I think this game is probably the one that's come closest to all 5:s from me in any Ludum Dare.

Absolutely outstanding. :)

Standard Waiver by Radix

I was very impressed by this game. I admit that I wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly as much if I hadn't seen and used the map, so maybe I'm biased by stuff from after the judging... but I loved it. And at the end... well, I didn't see that coming. Took me by surprise! :)

Great atmosphere, intriguing gameplay and plenty of polish - well done!

Bunny Press by Notch

I enjoyed playing this game! Nice polish and graphics, and lovely carrot-eating :)

I really missed a restart button, though, as I've already mentioned to you.

Well done!

Hello by mjau

I laughed out loud when playing it - always a good sign, and far too rare when playing games these days.

It's also a good sign that after completing it, I let the window stay open for a while just to hear the pretty chirping. :>

Although the game is a bit short (well, perhaps that's an understatement), I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Well done!

Extinguish by LunarCrisis

Lovely graphics. The darkness effect is really beautiful.

The game could use a bit more variation - moving enemies would be cool.

Great game overall. Well done! :)

Wallcraft by lokijki

Pretty sweet game! I enjoyed playing it. Very nice use of sounds and effects, and cute sprites.

Good work! :)

Speed Blazer by kappa

This is quite an enjoyable racing game. The speed increase/decrease mechanism bothers me a bit though. When you've slowed down it seems you can freely accelerate up to your "last max speed", but you can't go above that without hitting a speed booster. As far as I could tell...

Very nice graphics. Great work! :)

On a side note, it's probably a good thing I'm not judging the post-compo version... it killed off my computer quite efficiently.

Snap To Grid by Hempuli

I have not been able to solve the puzzle... but that didn't stop me from trying. More than just a few times! :)

I really enjoyed this game. The game idea is excellent. The graphical style is also great - well done!

One thing that bothered me a bit is that you have to click in the orange areas. Since they're in different grid positions anyway, you could've had the entire rectangle clickable.

Great work! :)

Happy Blob is Unhappy! by Fiona

Much like the other commenters, I don't think the theme isn't really there. But you know, I can only complain so much about that...

Great game. Very difficult. But Happy Blob loves me after all. Awww... :D

Gameplay, graphics and sound are all awesome.

As usual, an excellent entry from you! :)

Stormwall by Entar

First of all, one important point of critique: The choice of "Enter" as the start key was not a great one. You want to have one hand on the mouse and one on the arrow keys when you start, and on my laptop keyboard, this doesn't really work with enter to start. "Any key" or "Click" would've worked better.

The game is hard, very hard. On the first 10 or 20 tries I think I averaged about 2 seconds. My average now is probably upwards of 20, but it's still hard for me. I do enjoy it though, it's fun. It's also very pretty :)

Well done!

Advance 2 – Aftermath by DrPetter

The graphics are astonishing for 48 hours. Audio is also sweet - just what I'd expect from you. :)

I'm not so sure about the gameplay, though. The concept isn't bad, but it could use a few more elements.

Well done! :)

Rock Bank; Rock your way through the working day! by Deepflame

I found this very confusing. It's like GH or Rockband, only so elaborate that I don't stand a chance on easy.

Pretty cool idea though, and great music. Good going :)

Heart by agj

Conceptually interesting and a daring take on the competition. While I like a good story as much as anybody, this just about crosses the line to short film for me. I certainly wouldn't say there's any gameplay to speak of.

Great graphical style though. The music is nice and moody, and the game is impressively polished.

LD13 — Roads (17)

BLDR by SpaceManiac of Platymuus

Gameplay is lacking some, thanks to the small amount of obstacles and maps available in the game. I can certainly see this being fun with more complex interaction, but it doesn't feel quite finished as it is. :)

Calling it quits by jhauberg

Game crashes on me, even though I have everything I need... I think? Unless it requires more libs than your LD12 entry?

I'm giving you a score for journal because of the awesome screenshot! :)

Submission: Roadate by crc

I beat the game, and rather enjoyed it!

I agree with the others that the controls are not very intuitive, but once you get used to them it's not so bad. I'd still change them, though. Two Towlr points for the control scheme. :)

You shouldn't need to start over at level 1 if you fail, really.

Great work, I liked this one a lot! A bit too short though... :)

Chopper vs. Trucks by ondrew

Very, very hard. Takes a lot of the fun from the gameplay, sadly.

Awesome 3D modelling there, though. Impressive chopper!

Voyage, a puzzle game by nilsf

Woo, cake, following the Towlr signs... it's pretty tricky! Especially if you misunderstand the rules like I did. On the level with two small puzzles, I assumed I had to solve both at once (I wasn't expecting the car to stop half-way), so I did. Did the same thing with the final level, just for fun.

The empty square is pretty hard to see, I suggest displaying its location more clearly.

I like the reference to your LD12 game, with the Owl Corp building. I was half expecting a flood of zombies!

It's a lot of fun the first few levels :)

Only Forwards by Jonathan Whiting

The graphics and the retro sound effects are absolutely amazing. I love them.

The gameplay is pretty great, except for one major problem: The unforgiving control schemes. You should *really* allow the player to indicate which direction he wants to go by pressing before the actual turn. As it is, I keep turning the wrong way because I can't handle the controls, which is a big issue in games like this (you should war against the enemy, not against your keyboard).

Great stuff!

Checkpoint racer by matrin

A very interesting thing about this game (at least in the windows

version) is that the close button doesn't exit the game - instead, it

can be used to cheat, as you automatically complete the current level.

I'm giving you Towlr points for that.

The game play is not a great deal of fun; I played through one map.

Picking up whatever it was I was supposed to pick up was has hard

because of the small collision size of the boxes. Collision with road

edges was also somewhat evil, as you stopped entirely.

The idea is there, though. With some more complex interaction and some

polish, this might be fun :)

Rara Racer by increpare

This game is absolutely brilliant. I'm amazed by the amount of creativity behind this game.

That being said, it does stretch the rules a bit, as hamumu pointed out.

I don't really thing the gameplay is that much fun, but that's not the point, is it? Also, I'm impressed by the strength of will you showed in not spoiling it beforehand!

Top marks for innovation and humor! :)

Two Roads by Hamumu

This is certainly a very interesting game, and it keet me entertained until I beat it. It could've used some more content though :)

Lovely idea, and nicely made. Well polished!

PizzaBitch by Sophie Houlden

Long intro. It shows that you spent a lot of effort working on it - pretty cool!

The game, however, is almost unplayable for me; graphics glitches makes it hard to even tell what's the road (tiles sometimes disappeared under me).

Great start, but not quite finished :)

Left4Bread by Fiona

Very cool music and graphics. I really like the effect when zombies are run over. Sadly, the car handling and the small roads take away much of the fun. Great start, could be a really cool game with some additional work :)

As others have pointed out, the speech bubbles were really cute. Also, not being able to kill zombies while going backwards is frustrating.

Roads to Nowhere by erik

Wow, that's some really clever puzzles! I was not really expecting that after the first few (tutorial-ish) levels. Reminds me some of jolle's "Tower of You" from LD12.

Great game - I can't actually think of any particular areas to improve, except graphics and perhaps some more terrain variation later on (although I admit I didn't play through all the levels). :)

Soltcras by DrPetter

Awesome game. I love the sounds. Although... I actually get a better lap time by holding the keys down (and crashing a lot) than trying to play. Heh.

Unknown by dertom

Pretty landscape, and a promising idea. As mentioned by the others and yourself, though, it's somewhat buggy and not really finished. Cool start though :)

Done! With Zombies!!! by dave1

Very nice music - great work there!

As for the game, I find it counter-intuitive. It's about as confusing as the others have said. I also agree with DrPetter in that the control scheme is odd; left-right should be acceleration, up-down the movement into and out of the screen.

Oh, by the way, there's no score screen early - all the user interface elements only come up after you've played for a while. That's perhaps the most confusing part of it for me :)

‘0xF0’ by bluescrn

You know, I think you'll win. :)

Positive:
- Gameplay is excellent. From the ones I've tried so far, this game has been the most fun.
- The presentation (menu system and in-game both) is absolutely stunning.
- All the maps! In a sense, this reminds me of F-zero X (in particular), which had pretty cool random maps. Procedural generation is my friend :)
- I love the sound effects!

Negative:
- If I alt-tab out of the game in full-screen, and back again, game crashes.
- It should automatically move you to the next level in the menu once you finish a certain level for the first time. After that, it's fine if it doesn't go to the next one.
- I'd really like a way to leave the current map and go back to the menu, without having to finish the track or restart the game.
- I kinda agree that there's a bit too much unlocking going on. Perhaps letting some half of the maps be playable straight away?

Exproad, Improad, Reroad! by demonpants

I'm not really sure what to make of this game. On one hand, it's got incredible graphics, entertaining sounds, an odd story, and a good dose of humor. On the other hand, the gameplay is not much fun for me.

I'm guessing one of the reasons I don't think it's a lot of fun is that the scoring system is unfinished. With such simple scoring, and the ability to keep increasing the score after game over, there's no motivation.

Stunning work, great resources, but lacks something when it comes to gameplay. :)
See you around JGO!

LD12 — The Tower (56)

Tower of Doom is Complete! :D by Yezu

Woo, 3d shooter!
Nice style and sprites.
Lacks some smoothness, and gameplay isn't all that exciting.

Dark Tower by X-0ut

Awesomely animated - so many frames! I love it <3
The overall art style is awesome, and the game is lots of fun - although perhaps a bit too hard at times. I couldn't get very far. Also, the look-ahead is a bit short when you get to the edges.

Excellent stuff!

Crystal Towers Beta -Final- by wonderwhy-er

Gameplay is too slow - I'd have liked a smaller platform (@see catstacker).
The idea is nice, and it's decently fun.
Menu system is always a plus.
Graphics are okay, although simple.

Tower Construction Kit by wjordan

The editor is potentially fun, and simply playing around with the physics simulation is pretty fun. The goal of the game is okay, although the third level's too hard for me.
The graphics are very simple.

All in all, an okay game, especially since the editor's pretty nice. :)

Treasure Tower by Wiering

The mario-inspired graphics are nothing short of brilliant - gameplay could've used a bit more polish. As it is now, the difficulty lies only in the controls; I'd have like obstacles or enemies instead. Ice to skid on, spikes to avoid, that sort of stuff.
Anyway, good stuff! :)

6hour game: Part 3 by thedaian

Pretty fun, although gets a bit annoying at times :)
After first attempt:
Can it actually be completed? If so, I'm stuck on floor three.
Second attempt, after talking to the author:
Yes, it can be completed. I was close :)
No graphics or sound, naturally.

Owliver, space tower janitor by Tenoch

Let me begin by complimenting you for excellent work in the journal, food and timelapse areas!

About the game:
The music's nice but a bit repetetive :)
The hand-drawn levels are pretty great, I love them :)
Gameplay is fun for a while, but eventually going back to fix the problems (that reappear quicker than I can fix them because the area in which space works is so small) gets tiring.

Tower of Doom by Sulix

Sound's okay.
Graphics are fairly simple.
Game crashed far too quickly two times in a row :/
I think the gameplay might have been interesting, but it's hard to tell when it's crashing so hard.

Cannon Hates Tower by Sivart13

Nice physics sandbox, although the goal is pretty much non-existant. In terms of a game, it's a bit too random - trying to beat the highscore doesn't quite work as a goal here, since the tower won't be the same the next time you try :)
Graphics are simple but okay.

Pfff – fin by jhauberg

I love it! Mashing people with crates is pure fun. Although I can't seem to hit those owls... :/
Nice graphics (although simple) and sounds, too. <3

Commander Blunt by robut

Graphics are colorful, perhaps a bit too much so - and with all the details, sometimes it's hard to tell what's what. They're nice though.
Gameplay is pretty so-so, really - the idea is good but there's room for polish and improvements :)

Also, I actually won an unbeatable game; I caused a never-ending fire which all the robots went into, which must mean victory.

Castle Attack by psnake

I couldn't get anywhere - far too hard for me :'(
Interesting idea, certainly :)
Graphics are very simple. Crashes once every now and then, for example if you click the mouse.

Could use a bit of polish :)

Junktowers by Papper

Good fun, although there are a few annoyances; for example, not being able to walk uphill once it gets close to 30 degrees (friction + gravity stops you) - this is fairly common when using physics engines, but that doesn't mean it's realistic :)
With a bit of level and graphics work and fleshing out the concept a bit, this could be an excellent full-version platformer.
Graphics are simple, and I don't really see the connection to the theme :)
The victory message is entertaining :>

The Siege of von Danken Tower by pansapiens

Really cool retro style graphics and sounds. Very simple gameplay. Fun for a short while but doesn't keep up in the long run. Food and journal are both nice - story is awesome!

Steam Tower by Orangy Tang

Great idea, physics.
Gameplay is a bit slow, I'd rather like it more fast-paced and have lesser precision requirements when using x/c (so that they're easier to pick up and plug in).
A bit short.
Graphics are okay, but not great. I do like the machinery and the smoke.

Breaking the Tower by Notch

Awesomely pretty - polished. I can't believe this was done in 48h.
Gameplay is cool, but gets repetetive pretty quickly. Took me roughly an hour to complete at first try. After that, I don't find much reason to play it again. Still, an hour is more time than I spent on most of the games :)

And no matter how this game does in the compo, congratulations for getting featured on indiegames.com and rockpapershotgun :)

Escape From The Tower of DOOM by nilsf

Bloody excellent. Nicely animated, superb pixellation.
Gameplay is good fun and surprisingly long-lasting.
Zombies, references to Flight of the Conchords, Portal, and whatnot - this is a dream come true. This would most certainly win if I was the lone judge. :)

Mind you, after failing a miserable amount of times on the second level, I just completed it in debug mode in the end.

Stacker by MrPhil

Was fun at first, but the increase in difficulty was a little too gradual. At level 8 I got a bit bored, spamming blocks,
and at 89 blocks the game crashed and my browser stopped working :)
Graphics are very simple.

There was also quite a bit of random flickering in the text messages.

Final for “Choke Point” by mikejedw

Score: 4389 or something such (keeps counting up after you win).
Pretty fun once you get the hang of it. The idea is very nice. It could, as has been previously mentioned, be extended a bit though :)
Graphics are simple but okay.

Tau by matrin

The gameplay is a classic, but in this case it's simply too hard. The controls aren't quite responsive enough (no quick dodging after a jump, for example). There are impossible situations; obstacles that appear both up and down at once. I also think that the obstacles spawn too close to the player when starting.
The animations, however, are superb - still, I can't help thinking you should've put some of that graphics work into the game instead :)

Mr Blocker v1.0 by mariusz

The idea is okay, but the actual gameplay suffers from lacking a bit of smoothness, or "fluff" if you will; no automatic key-repeat, no pixel-wise animations, that kind of stuff. Also, disasters are such an annoyance! Might have helped if you won as soon as you completed the goal instead of when time reaches 0; that way, you can try to work quickly to reach the goal before the disasters hit you.
Graphics are very simple.

Tower by LoneStranger of LoneStranger Designs

Didn't work, and doesn't give me any useful crash logs or console output. Sorry - I've really tried my best to get this to start.

Will be judging the food and journal categories only.

EDIT: Works on my laptop. Graphics are okay, I kind of like the style. Gameplay needs a bit of polish (@see AkinTower).

Cat Stacker (Final Entry) by lexaloffle

Super nice graphics.
Gameplay is good fun - the idea of using those cat shapes makes it all that much more fun than standard block piling. I love it!

WeatherTower – Binary Build Done + Win32 Build! by kutani

Idea is nice, gameplay isn't my style. I can see people enjoying it but I'm bad at this kind of strategy. Could use some more polish :)
Graphics are simple but nice.

Up! by keeyai

Pretty cool, I like the idea... once I understood it, after talking to Keeyai. Without additional instructions, the goal isn't all that clear :>
Graphics are very simple.

Owl Tower Quest by kai

After perhaps 20 attempts: I don't get it at all. I can't get past the camera.
After another one o two: Okay, I got past the camera. Apparently that was the only challenge :)
I can't restart, or I don't know how - no readme.
Game slows down if you tab out of it then back in.
Graphics are very simple.

The game reminds me of a similar game in the 4k contest, you might like to try it because of the similarities: http://java4k.com/index.php?action=games&method=view&gid=192

Darn, I didn’t make it so guests could download… by demize

Old-school graphics - bit too simple.
Gameplay is, uh, not all that much fun :)
Only one level.
No sounds.

Moonbase Defense by jovoc

Awesome tower defense idea.
Very nice tower graphics - unfortunately, after a short while I couldn't see anything thanks to random texture planes leaning this way and that and covering my view.

I think the game might've been too easy, but I was actually too distracted by the graphics bugs to tell. It got unplayable after a while :/

I would've liked to try those two others concept of yours as well, they both sounded awesome. Especially the one in the all-new auction/action genre. :)

The Tower of You by jolle

This does look pretty awesome. I'm sorry to report that it doesn't start for me, nor does it give me any sort of useful error message. It just pops up a frame and then crashes. In fact, the only message I did get was from my crash catch tool, and it contains naught but seemingly random memory addresses. And yes, I have the zlib1.dll :/

Thus, I'll judge the journal and food categories and put n/a for the rest. I would have liked to try it though - from the screenshots it was one of the games I was really looking forward to playing!

EDIT: Works on my laptop. It's pretty cool - I couldn't find a way to scroll over the map though, which bothered me - especially since the game's resolution is the same as the one on my laptop screen (would've worked better in fullscreen). Graphics are nice, as is gameplay.

Good stuff!

Femme Tower by Jach

Very hard - I couldn't kill more than 20 or so.
Entertaining in (story) and style, although gameplay is not all that interesting.
The raphics are rather simple :)

Rise Of The Owls by Hamumu

Score on first try: 269761
This game is just brilliant. The graphics are superb, gameplay is great (although a slight bit on the easy side, I think). I love it!

Teenage Mathant Ninja Tower by greencow

The game idea is awesome (it's an educational game that I actually enjoyed playing, who knew?).
Graphics are okay, although I'd have preferred black text on white or bright gray; easier to read that way.
Gameplay is good fun for a while.

It accepts stuff like 7 + 1 = 1, though. Shame :/
Also, I have to press escape to terminate the application - I can't just close it in a normal manner.

As good as it gets by gjuggler

Very, very pretty.
The idea's nice. Shame there's no logic, it would've been much better as a game if you'd had time to implement it.
Is the cardboard box of infinite size? That's pretty cool :)

Holy Pineapples by gadlor

Nice title screen, nice music.
Gameplay is pretty non-existant. It's so fast, I've no idea what I'm doing :)
I ended up both losing and winning or something such (double texts on top of each other mostly hidden by objects).

Cutting it Fine by Frimkron

Super cool character, very nicely animated. The graphical effect is nice but flickers a bit too much for me.
Gameplay was a bit too, uhm... flimsy? Not enough friction, perhaps. This makes the game very hard. I played it for a good while but never got further than the door to the inside some way up. Still, I like it. With a bit more polish, this'd be a great game. Nice title screen, by the way :)

Purple Reign – A love letter to awesome games by Fiona

Super cool music!
Nice mood and graphical style.
There should be a way to skip ahead, to where the aliens first appear. Takes too long to "get started" the second time.
Is the level with lots of aliens the last one? There's no retry there anyway - perhaps I was out of continues?

Anyway, I love it. Reminds me a lot of Tapan Kaikki.

Tower Infinite by Entar

Graphics are fiarly simple but they work :)
Gameplay is a bit too slow for me. Quicker refilling of the meters, quicker gameplay would've helped.

Tower Collapse by Endurion

Nice idea, very cool game.

These were my thoughts after playing the first time:
Graphics okay, sound's a bit on the loud side ;)
Perhaps the ability to speed up the destruction process a bit would be nice?

After reading the comments on this page and playing again:
Ah, this is more fun than I realized. I tried too hard to save money at first, but the trick to making gameplay fast and game fun is spending lots of money and placing a lot of charges.

Good stuff :)

TowerAssault0 by edwardoka

This game is said to have been made in two hours, and it kind of shows. I'm impressed considering the short time used, but it's not all that much fun. Altering trajectory isn't needed since the ground is flat. There's no re-trying on the same distance, which makes the learning curve much longer.
Graphics are pretty nice :)

Control Tower by Edge

Very nice style on the pixelled tower. The gameplay isn't much fun for me, I'm afraid. Too much clicking, no repeat (holding down button), and a bit too simple.

Sure looks nice though :)

Incoming Fodder Final drZool by drZool

The AI is not quite up to the task - it's a bit too random. Compensated by too much "attacking the towers", so there is no "mazing". It's also a bit on the easy side. Even when I gave up trying to build new towers, I didn't lose.
In the end, I filled pretty much the entire map with casinos: http://www.x2d.org/java/LD/IncomingFodder.png

I love the stylized graphics, and the sounds are entertaining :)

Quick and weak entry from me this time by DrPetter

The mood is excellent! ;)
Good fun while it lasted, really - just about the right balance between humor and difficulty finding out what commands are available. Bit short though.
Graphics are... not there, which means this is the first N/A in graphics so far - one to go :)

Falling Towers by devguy

Gameplay is nice, but a bit too random - there's little or no strategy since you don't know where the next block's going to go. With a bit of fleshing out the concept could be the basis for a really nice game.
Sound gets a bit annoying after a while, but it's okay.
Graphics are very simple.

Demonic Tower by dstrysnd

Excellent game! It's good fun, and well polished. Graphics are fairly simple but it doesn't matter all that much. The gameplay is sophisticated, and the music's well made. Conceptually great idea, as well. :)

Unknown by Deepflame

This is a great game - with the building/playing combination, it's potentially lots of fun in multiplayer. It doesn't really shine in singleplayer, though :)
Graphics are simple but clear.
The game needs a bit of polish, but the idea is lots of fun and conceptually very nice.

Balkor FINAL [Platform independant] by Daz

Music's really cool.
Controls are pretty awkward - needs a bit of smoothness and polish.
The mood is very nice.
Gameplay is pretty so-so, to be entirely honest :)

Covenant – Brick Tower by Covenant

Starts out a bit slow, but I suppose it might be needed to get the hang of it.
It's a simple idea, but it works well enough.
Simple graphics.
Funny sounds :)

My by Codexus

The game is surprisingly fun - it's well balanced, so it gets just hard enough.
It's also super pretty! The graphics are fantastic, and I can help but love the use of shaders.
Pretty much my only complaint is that it's a bit short :)
Oh, and the lack of sound.

The timelapse is probably the best one I've seen, and I like how you chose to go with Loituma for the music ;)

done for now by ashton379

Sorry, not working for me either :/
A simple popup and then nothing.

AkinTower Ready by Ariel Yust

My tower took no damage until level 16 - too long :/
I died at level 25 - the gameplay doesn't quite hold enough variation, so I was hardly trying in the end.
Superb graphics - awesome characters!
Music's very nice, although it's a shame that there are no other sounds.

Overall, good stuff! Oh, and I love the doll :)

done by allefant

Way, way too hard.
Good fun until the the running back and forth with blocks.
Very pretty! Nice style to it. Entertaining talk, story.

All in all, a great game and a very nice achievement for 48 hours.

Into the Sky by algorias

Nice concept, could use some more AI in piece spawning.
Very simple graphics.
Nice music! To me, the best music in any of the games. :)

Super Tower Ascent 2 by adamzap

Surprisingly fun despite the simple gameplay.
Awesome mood.
Entertaining on a lot of levels - graphics, music, sound. Please do confirm in a post that the sound's all custom though :>

Tower of Abba!! Final!!! by abeck99

Very nice - I like both idea and game.
The fairly simple 3d graphics are looking nice. I like the mouse-to-3d coordinate conversion; even works through holes when clicking on blocks other side of the tower. Well done!
Nice music.

Towlr – 2 Hour Game by PoV

Haha. So easy, yet so hard. I love it.
Scarily annoying at times :)
I love how the game actually tries to fool the player to not understand it. It's awesome.

Final submission by GBGames

The game idea's really good but it needs increasing difficulty, a loss condition, and no enemies spawning while looking at title screen... :)
There's a bug where knights spawn off the tower, which would be a problem if there was a win condition. As it is, the game was fun for a short while but it needs a bit more polish.

Very nice journal, food and timelapse stuff.
