nice game, really challenging!
My best time was 136.
I think the game has good pace on the escalation from clicking a single meter to having to manage all resources and barely keeping up. The music speeding up is a really nice effect to go along with this!
I like the visuals especially the colors and shape you chose for the cat. It's 'off', cute but also a little sickly/suspicious looking. I'm not sure about this, but it seems some Needs take longer to perform their action when clicked than others? If this is the case, I think it would have been nice to include some way for me to see the 'cooldown' display, because I often find myself mashing on a button waiting for it to light up again.
Also there appears to be a bug where playing multiple runs in sequence will inflate your score (it keeps getting incremented without being set to 0 between runs).
Aaaah, trying to keep the cat alive was crazypants. Great job on the graphics and audio. I like the idea!
Super charming graphics! The gameplay reminded me a bit of Tamagotchis!
Really cute!! and challenging! my best time was 87
Cute graphics, cool concept and very addictive gameplay.
@mbc Thanks for that great feedback. You are right, certain actions do take more time than others. Didn't get around to put in the cooldown timer in the buttons sadly, would have been better for communication. And that's a nasty bug you found there ! Thanks for letting me know.
very nice graphics! Is it what it feel to have kids?
@yetanother Yes ! This isn't actually a survival game, it really is a life sim ! :P
Good job on completing your first Ludum Dare!
Game is really well done, although a bit hard to manage
Super challenging but fun as well, made it to 144 :D
@noobexception Haha yeah, the thought behind the difficulty curve was that I went for hard because I feel if the games were long it would end up being boring. Part of the fun to me was to fall in that panic mode/state and it's short enough that the repetitive nature of the design becomes less relevant.
Also, wanted to make it so that when you replay and get 5 more seconds on your highscore, it feels like a meaningful step up and since the games are so short, the "Just one more game!" is tempting.
It's challenging, but I might get it wrong: is it only a click here and there to keep everything in green?
@mudlee I wouldn't say it's "only" that, but at first glance without trying to dissect the design further, one could say that, yes.
@joannetteg no offense from my side at all, I just didn't get the point. Let me clear it out a bit. So there are 6 perspectives I have to take care. That's fine. All of them are decreasing and to prevent that I have to click on them. Fine. Up until this point it's a race game which is fun (I rated it as fun), but it does not let me click instantly after each click. And it's impossible to keep all filled if I click and nothing happens. I observed that at least I have to wait 3-4s between clicks, but I see nothing that shows me that. Maybe I wasn't clear enough. If so, sorry about that.
@mudlee Yeah, didn't get around to put the cooldown in the buttons during the game jam. Depending on the actions there is a 1 to 3 seconds cooldown (lasts the duration of the fx over the cat's head). During cooldown all action are locked so the players has to prioritize the actions taken depending of how much life and happiness are left and how long the cooldown will put them in trouble.
There's no win scenario. It would just be boring to be able to keep going forever. The challenge is to find the rhythm to maximize the time you can stay alive and beat your own score.
It's not OCD people friendly: "a management game where you can't win" haha but imo it was the best way to make a real-time tamagotchi not dreadfully long and boring.
Nice take on the tamagotchi-genre!
My cat died after 81 seconds because I didn't teach him well. Poor kitty. At first I was like "this looks suspciously easy", but as soon as I got to manage 3 tasks... When the 6 were unleashed, I had truly arrived in hell.
Very fun game, simple but super effective. The graphics are really great, and the audio is nice.
Overall, a super strong entry. Congrats!
Art top! Music awesome! Idea very well executed! Ar first I thought it would be easy until the cooldowns hit me haha! You deserve so much more attention to that game! Definitely keep it up and please make a mobile version as well!
Great little game with a pretty good ramp-up and difficulty. I only got 82 on my first playthrough. But I do find myself wanting to try for a higher score. So great job! I think with the addition on a few features this could be a great full fledged game.
Keep up the good work and see you next Ludum Dare!
Cute, and intense. I had a hard time keeping the cute thing happy. 88 was may bets. poor thing! Good job!
