Nice little metroidvania. Could be more polished with sounds and more than the bare minimum (albeit clean) graphics, of course, but the concept works. Given that the instructions say "dash (when available)", I think there is a bug (maybe leftover from testing?): the dash is available from the beginning of the game. It also explains why it is possible to get to the goal without picking up the red key or the "D" powerup. And it's also why I had to play for a second time, to get to the secret screen ^^

As with many games this LD, having an early restart button might be convenient. When I missed a jump, I knew that I wasn't going to make it to wherever I was going, I just had to wait for the respawn.

The music was cool, reminded me of Environmental Station Alpha somehow.

(By the way, I see you have very few ratings: you should rate other people's games and/or submit your games to streams to get ratings for your game...)

Ah a metroidvania! This is probably the most annoying metroidvania I've ever played. Being warped back to start point every 10 seconds feel like punishment. I'd need to give extra effort to complete this game someday.

There were a few relatively small things that I think could be improved

Several of the powerups were not very clear about what I just obtained. It might have been nice to have a text popup say "Opened a door" or "Gained double jump".

It would be nice if the 10 second timer didn't start until the user enters an input. As is I often lose a half second while I am trying to figure out which way to go. Additionally, if I was holding right as time reset, it starts me out stationary and I have to let go of the right arrow before I can press it again.

Sometimes I mess up the first second of a run and have to wait for a reset before I can try again. It would be nice to have a button like R to immediately trigger a reset.

I managed to complete it, and I think there's some nice potential in figuring out where to go and in getting good enough to platform quickly to each of the objectives.

I made it! It took a lot of trial and error to figure out what did what, and took a few runs in particular to figure out I'd gained a double jump. Perhaps the starting screen could've had a list of your current powers, or maybe for keys for example you could see the door unlock as you collect the key. And damn that timer is incredibly tight, like hot damn that was tight. A few of the powers took multiple tries, though it was fun building up mastery on that. And was awesome breezing through stuff I'd previously struggled with, in typical metroidvania fashion! Nice game, I had fun

Clean aesthetic with a good interpretation of the theme, had a bit of an issue getting into it, but I found it was well executed!

i really like the artstyle and the game mechanic - good work.

Man that was tough, I got the first few keys then failed when it came to negotiating the alternating vertical blocks. One thing that'd make it a little easier - would be to trigger the spawn point ( you still respawn ever 10 seconds ) but have the anchor be movable, trying to traverse more than 3 screens was a challenge

Loved the game! The art style was great, very well-designed platforming puzzles too! Grabbing the secret was very fun too! :D I agree with Almost in having a reset button though, there would be times I'd wait for the 10-second timer and it ruins the momentum you get with the game. An overall timer would be great too to beat your own time!

Really fun game, was a joy to play from beginning to end. The theme was successfully baked into the metroidvania gameplay without feeling tacked on. Movement felt smooth and upgrades kept the gameplay fresh. Graphics were simple but clean. Liked how the title etc. were integrated into the first level, no main menu required.

As for criticism, the difficulty curve felt kind of reversed as getting the first upgrades/keys was harder than getting the last ones (at least for me, just a slight nitpick tho). Music was nice, but extra sound effects could have juiced up the game feel. A respawn counter or an overall timer could also have added some replay value for chasing high scores.

Overall a fantastic entry, definitely one of the better games of the jam that I have played. Great job! Screenshot 2022-10-21 at 16.58.39.png

Ah, I really enjoyed this! Really good level design, especially how you teased the endpoint / later stage early on to give the player an indication of the goal / directions to go in. The music was really jammin' too.

My only suggestions would be: * Adding a small cooldown between resets, to give the player a second to get ready for the next round. A bit of an audio / visual countdown would help with this too. * Removing the auto-jump when holding space -- I think this sometimes ate my double-jumps, which was a bit frustrating.

All in all really enjoyed this! I've also played a similar (but different) metroidvania here, which you might enjoy :) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/51/hyperlooper

Great work!

That was excruciatingly tough but still fun. Very well executed levels with precise heights.

heiden-bzr 2022-10-21 16:59

It's really cool, I love the progression. However it seems that the game is balanced for hardcore players, not those who just passed by... I've got my first upgrade, but haven't managed to reach even the second one. Which is a pity, because I would like to know what else the game has.

I agree with ideas to add cooldowns between levels & remove auto jump on hold, that frustrated me too

jazkottaja 2022-10-21 17:01

could use some tolerance for error since now you can not make any errors and that can be a bit frustrating

jonathang 2022-10-21 21:01

I think the difficulty works well, because you restart every 10 seconds anyway so it doesn't seem like you're losing much. The platforming controls have a really nice feel though, especially the double jump and dash, although sometimes it seemed like I couldn't double jump right when I needed to. Music is nice too :)
