This is the best game I've played of the jam so far!
Awesome game! I loved the title music, and all the voice acting in general - the crow was great! I also enjoyed the plot, and all the animations were super polished. In my first run, I killed the neighbor on the first day (because the instructions told me to) and ended up missing a bunch of dialogue, which was a bit sad. On the second, I tried to speedrun a bit, and finished in 5:20 minutes - not sure whether that's a good time, but still. Overall, amazing entry!
My only problem with this game is that it's about farming. You never disappoint, even with an early start time and an epically terrible theme. You packed a ton of content for a narrative compo game, including like a million character sprites. Though at some point mid-game it becomes a bit noticeable you ran out of time.
Also I think you can't buy a seed if you have exactly $1

Quality voice acting was great, as were the story and art. Good stuff!
Ah ah ah that's the game I had the most fun so far! The Main Music scene is so funny and all the inside jokes are on point! Nice reference to Stardew Valley here and incredible job for doing it solo đź‘Ź At first, I had a bit trouble understanding how to pick and place the items, some instructions & icons would be nice, but I guess not time to implement them.
This art style and music together create a humorous and fun game atmosphere, well done!
This is an incredibly well-polished game, especially considering it's developed in two days. Everything about this game feels so smooth, not to mention you went the extra mile for narrating. Thoroughly impressed.

this game was really good and polished! I think being able to click on the items in the hotbar would have been nice to select since I kept trying out of habit, but it wasnt really that big of a deal

On a serious note this was really fun! Neat art style and overall a nice entry. Surprised at how many jokes you managed to put in the game as well as just the fact you got a whole story from this theme. I'll be pretty surprised if this doesn't win for humor!

Well this was freaking hilarious.
The way you worked in the audio and the checklist was great. You kept the mechanics pretty consistent, but kept throwing in twists ("wait, you have no money? Just steal from your neighbor!") and the checklist would update accordingly. You even had contingencies for when the player did things out of order!
The few additional gags were also hilarious. The mis-communicated signage, the fact you had to eat every day, the title music, all of it was perfect and it never felt forced or stale. Definitely top marks for humor.
Also just the amount of content you managed to pack into a Compo game! I've been seeing your LD games here and there since Ultra Quest, and you continue to impress in new ways with each one.

Rest in peace Farmer Bill ~~but I also regret nothing, except maybe that I didn't also shovel the guy who sold me that 'good soil', because yeah right 'good soil', and I also regret not selling more corn, but one of those regrets feels a bit exponentially more significant than the other~~ Nice game!
Yes, the intrusive thoughts have won. I've won... But at what cost? Seriously was not expecting this level of polish in a compo- the movement feels great, visuals are amazing, the voice acting was hilarious and intuitive, and really added to the experience. Amazing work! ^~^

Best humor game so far. The voice talk is so funny. I did think many times that i broke the game but nah there was always a good twist. Well done with the game short and simple. First day murder is the best day ;)
This was awesome once again. I had a good laugh with this one.
Next time, if you have an additional 9 seconds to spare, you could consider adding subtitles. Your voice acting is great, but some people are not native English speakers and probably miss a joke or two because of that, which is a shame. :laughing:

@rolly Subtitles were certainly planned (an option to disable them exists in the pause menu) but yeah, I ran out of time and was unable to implement them. I scoped a bit large on this one, ha!
@100th-coin Of course, I completely understand :D But you make games that are so well polished, that you make it look like it's almost too easy for you :D Even your title screen music sounds polished!

I loved the voice overs all the way from the beginning to end. Fun mechanics and you even had anticipated some players doing stuff out of order and it still didn't break the game.

This is a fun twist on Stardew. You think you know what the gameplay's gonna be, then you realize it brings you nowhere and start cheating. I particularly loved the voice acting which reminds me a lot of Wheatley from Portal 2. The character animations are really smooth with the motion blur effects, although they do feel slightly out of sync with my inputs. And the corn moves just right! Though I didn't realize I could eat raw corn, haha.
I had a bug on day 3 where I couldn't plant my pumpkin on the patch of dirt I made at the neighbor's farm, I was only able to do it the next day despite what the crow said.
I actually killed my neighbor early. I tried to sneak on him and figured I could probably not hit him with a shovel but then... The reaction from the crow is top notch.
All in all it's crazy that you were able to do all that for the compo (not to mention the music), and the game really shows you have a good sense of where to cut corners and still deliver something great. Congrats!

Loved the voice acting, i thought it's just gonna be another farming game with a goofy crow, but the twist was nice
This was an absolutely phenomenal game. The crow voice acting was great with getting the player to do worse and worse things. The music complemented the game really well and did not get tiring at all due to the long loop. It is absolutely something I would listen to outside the game if posted on youtube or spotify or something. The one thing I got stuck on for a bit was the stage of planting the pumpkin as up to that point I was only clearing the left side of Bills farm and didnt realize there was a specific hole you were supposed to plant it in that spawned over on the right (edit after playing the game again looks like I accidentally clicked on the soil over on the right without realizing it in the first run which created the hole and then I couldnt make another). The little polish details such as the wind particles and the corn physics were really nice touches that helped make the game feel very good to play
Overall 10/10. Ive loved your games in the all ludum dares since ive been participating and cant wait to see some other games made by you
Awesome game! Great voice acting! I got stuck for a bit with switching items - I clicked everywhere and pressed every button before I figured out the numkeys did it. Loved the game!

This is so good! I can’t believe it’s a compo game—must have been an incredible amount of work. So many fun little details, like the screen tint when you [redacted] and the text on the signs at the festival, the way the corn sways as you walk through it… just terrific all round. Bravo.
It's the comment music, boom boom boom, it's the comment music, the muuusic you hear when you read this comment, boom boom boom. Seriously that was the best title music I have heard in a long time, you should get 4th in audio for that (and humor)!
No actually, you need to win humor, and overall for that matter because this is one of _the_ best compo entries I have played in my 22 Ludum Dares. I know to expect great games from you but, this takes the price, it's all downhill from here for you! :smile:
I don't know how to express how much I enjoyed this, but I laughed out loud when I heard the voice line after stealing on day one "Your not even going to try to grow you own?" :laughing:
Needless to say I killed a couple of people, stole a bunch of corn and won a ridiculous price. Now we need to get you the most well deserved #1 price as well. :trophy:

I laughed my ass off from the beginning to the end. The whole thing is just outrageous and bizarre - just the way I like it.
There are these details that start piling up after the first half that make it noticeable that you were running out of time, but I think it's your attention detail and early polishing that betrayed you this time - it's pretty obvious where those hours went that you were missing at the end of compo - you upped your animations, drew a lot of characters, the UI is quite cool, etc.
But I'm quite sure that you'll be able to dissect the course of this LD and use it to make your LD planning skills and future submissions even more amazing than before.
Also I'm pretty sure that you'll do remarkably well even though you ran out of time. This game is a job well done.
I think we can all agree the neighbor provoked it. Ultimately, 13 was my high score on my second run. The girl near the harvest festival where you can't hit with your shovel was close enough to the street that the swing motion could still get her, that's the secret Bountiful lore you need to know to get that 13th kill.
But yeah, what an amazing game. The voice acting is top-notch and the writing is super funny. Gameplay felt very tight, everything had proper feedback, hitting stuff feels amazing. Of course hitting people feels best, with the tint change and everything, but hitting fences etc with the explosions and the sound effects stood really out to me as well. I also loved the attention to detail, the additions like the voice line when you kill the neighbor before you actually have to. Everything feels super polished. Amazing all around.
The crow is such a funny guy, and such a nice implementation for a tutorial (combined with the list of tasks). I would've been in awe if this was simply your interpretation on the farming game genre, but all those twists and modifications to the original recipe makes this really stand out and catapult it beyond only being memorable!
Congrats on a well-deserved first place in Humor!
I have faith in the Ludum Dare rating process, but may have needed a torch and/or pitchfork if anything else came out on top.
