Congrats on the entry

I hope you'll drop by mine and give it a spin

:purple_heart: :dart: :frog:

lilleskutt 2021-04-26 13:48

It was a pretty fun game though some of the platforms kinda mixed in with the background and it would be nice to be able to mute the music.

meritcoding 2021-04-26 13:49

@lilleskutt trying to find how to do that

meritcoding 2021-04-26 13:50

@purpledartfrog what is your game

purpledartfrog 2021-04-26 17:45

@meritcoding That would be this one  https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/blue-eye-salvage-rescue

glimmer 2021-04-27 16:11

was fun! but i jumped over one of one of the goals and fell for ever.

lukeydev 2021-04-27 22:26

The graphics are very unique, the story wasn't bad either. Although I couldn't get close enough to the final boss to see what it looked like.

lorwon 2021-04-28 07:57

The gameplay is quite simple but it's fun (maybe too easy ?), sometimes it can be hard to guess where to jump but it's fine. I loved the graphics BTW. Good job :)

meritcoding 2021-04-28 14:02

@glimmer so sad @lukeydev if you want after the game I can update the itch page with a picture of the boss @lorwon I made it easy so it is possible.

thebmxeur 2021-04-29 10:54

I don't know how experienced/old you are (I'm assuming you're young), but here is some feedback for the future. Hopefully it's not too harsh. - The jumps are too "floaty", when I reach the top of the jump, I kind of have to wait to "float" done. - A lot of the jumps are blind jumps, I can't see where I need to jump to. - The exit of each level looks like a fire pit. At first I tried to jump over it. - When I miss a jump, I'm falling with no way to get back except by launching the game again. - A pick axe that shoots rocks ? - If I'm to close to an obstacle, I shoot through it. - In the level where you need to flee the boss, if I wait to see what's happening (since the first time I don't know I have to flee), I can't beat the level as the boss is quicker than me. - In the credit menu, don't make stuff bouncing, it's hard to read. - The graphics and story are bad. But with work and practice, you can improve.

I believe that in the credits their are several names (I may be wrong). If that's the case, the game should be in the JAM category, not the COMPO.

meritcoding 2021-04-29 14:01

@thebmxeur thanks for the feedback and it's just me for the boss I would have made it too slow if I made it more slow the pickaxe I know the jumps I didn't have chance to adjust physics of rigidbody and the pits I know I tried making them like there is light the story do you have any suggestions and art I know I just started for the shoot through what do you mean.

thebmxeur 2021-04-29 14:47

@meritcoding I don't know much about writing story. But not every games needs a story, and if what you're writing isn't good you might want to give context in another way (or no context at all). I would have preferred you spent less time on the story and more on gameplay.

That said, if you really want to write some story, you'll need to start somewhere (like you did here), and it's like everything else, you'll need practice and peoples feedback (not friends and family as this will be most likely biased).

meritcoding 2021-04-29 17:16

@thebmxeur Yeah the story was just to explain why you are in the caves and such because then people would ask but why and what is that. And also remember I did this in 2 days so I didn't have much time and from my other games this by far is the best out of all 5 even the one I did for fun (But that was my first project)

jonas-tyroller 2021-04-29 17:31

Pretty well done. Sound maybe slightly annoying, but theme works well for me and I like that you managed to make a working web build! Shooting pickax also very creative. :)

yaen 2021-04-29 17:35

It was definitely the first shooting pickaxe I ever played with in any game so that's points for innovation! The mad brother following me was kinda scary actually.

meritcoding 2021-04-30 14:38

@yaen great that was the feel I was going for the chase

meritcoding 2021-04-30 14:39

@jonas-tyroller Yeah it was funny idea for a shoo ting pickaxe

bytinggames 2021-04-30 17:08

It has that self made feel, that stood out. You created different graphics for the same objects, this gives the mine more variation to look at

The music was kinda noisy. You don't restart when falling of to the left at the beginning. Cool that you added a story sequence at the beginning and two bossfights at the end, although both were bretty easy. I killed the second boss accidentally I think - it happened so fast, because I just spammed the pickaxe.

rewzu 2021-04-30 18:17

Congratulations on completing the game jam. There is a lot of room for improvement in your game. Some levels do not restart after falling down. Sometimes you can't see where to jump and have to blindly guess. Projectiles spawn too far from the player and can go through the object when standing near them. Some projectiles disappear when shooting too fast. Music seems to be broken. Finish of each level looked to me like a fire at first and I tried to avoid it. :D Overall, funny game. Hope you had fun doing it! :D

meritcoding 2021-05-01 05:18

@bytinggames The music after jam will be changing and increasing death boundaries. @rewzu I will be improving the game with more animations and boss health and 1 more dialogue.

gimbalock 2021-05-01 09:44

Good job on your first LD compo. Feel proud for finishing and take in all the feedback, and come back stronger for the next jam! I liked that you kept the gameplay easy. Then when you get more comfortable with coding, you can expand on the level design. I felt the jumps needed a little more gravity, and I didnt like so much the glitchy sound in the music. But all in all, nice first entry!

makse 2021-05-01 09:47

Nice little game! It seems that you had fun doing it! And you will improve next time ;-)

ladybenko 2021-05-01 09:48

Hi, this was fun and I did beat the game :) I'm fond of the naïve aestetics for the game. It's consistent and effective, even though the dialogues and buttons need more polish.

About the controls, jumping felt very floaty but I still could beat the game. Something that felt a bit unfair, though, is that I wasn't able to see where the platform I was supposed to land was.

And audio was broken for me (so I didn't rate this category), but I don't know if it's a Unity issue with web audio or something else.

Overall, a good entry and congrats for finishing the Ludum Dare in compo mode, it's always super hard :)

martinek 2021-05-01 10:09

fun little game, the jumping was a bit floaty and sometimes i got some problems with colision and coudn't move of got stuck to wall, but going a bit back fixed it

harmadillo 2021-05-01 12:34

Nice game. I liked the change in mechanic as you progress. A couple of times I couldn't see the next platform and had to jump into space and hope. Ending was abrupt. Not sure if I killed the end boss or not.

meritcoding 2021-05-01 18:11

@ladybenko the music was corrupt on purpose next update @harmadillo you did kill the boss

jk5000 2021-05-02 06:34

Super weird but also really funny. Well done.

tanner-shelton 2021-05-02 06:49

I liked the overall look and the pulsating eyes. It was a funny game and pretty well put together. The music sounded a bit like it was popping and was having issues, but that was intentional, so when I realized that it worked better for me.

cheesepencil 2021-05-02 16:16

I beat the boss!! SPOILERS: it was the brother the whole time AAARRRRGG

shakedimus 2021-05-03 09:02

I see people talking about the audio but I didn't have any. The game was a simple platformer, with a simple story. In that it succeeded. The drawing style was nice but obviously the gameplay could use some improvement. The jump was way too slow making it really easy, it wasn't clear that you need the high walls in the middle. It's weird that your bullets have the same speed as the player if you run tright and shoot you just have something floating. I also think it's a bit of a weird choice to use the mouse if it's only for clicking, I would have used the "W" button for example. I think this game succeeded in what it wanted to be, I enjoyed it for that although the gameplay is not very innovative. Good job still on also adding a lot of things like the story.

meritcoding 2021-05-03 13:00

@shakedimus The game will get an update where the jump will get more gravity, music will be fixed, more story, extras and some minigames

felixmreeve 2021-05-03 16:19

This has a hand-made feel which I liked. I would probably drop the music next time and just add simple sound effects or stick to one track to focus on. The controls could be a bit tighter and the levels be a bit clearer so that the platforming is challenging but fair. I thought the section near the end where you have to run away was intense, you got the atmosphere spot on! Hopefully you can build on this foundation and use the knowledge to make improvements in your next game, I'd like to see some more considered colours so that the player/projectiles stand out a bit more against the background! And since you seem more passionate about the game art/music/gameplay than the dialogue I wouldn't worry too much about adding more story. Rather, it would be good to see more level variation and improved shooting mechanics. Enjoyable entry, well done!

meritcoding 2021-05-03 16:48

@felixmreeve Thanks for feedback almost all you said will be put into consideration for the next update I'm changing music and making the camera better + adding a bit more levels

holtzzy223 2021-05-03 17:25

Audio was not good, had fun with the platforming though! jump is a bit floaty for my tastes hope my input on stream was helpful ! https://www.twitch.tv/its_holtzzy

gnevesdev 2021-05-04 12:34

Gonna be honest, the sounds were really weird... The best part was the history about the missing brother. Also, nice trailer :P

asdehielo 2021-05-06 18:14

Hey, since you asked for feedback, here goes mine :)

- Level design: I think you could go for levels where you have to explore a little bit more. As it is now, you just have to go to the right which is not very interesting. - Audio: Try to have one sound for every action in the game (shooting, jumping, dying, etc.) - Art: Start by having the character face the direction you are moving, and then add some kind of walking animation. - Gameplay: The pickaxe skill was cool, you could maybe expand it so you can mine in every direction.

Hope this helped, keep up the good work!

meritcoding 2021-05-08 11:03

@asdehielo thanks will be adding all those in the update and will be adding more abilities and replay ability

ghuyajil 2021-05-18 12:16

Nice little game, I do not think I have more feedback to add to what others have already said ;)
