Nice work! Question: can you not fight the scary bad guys? I tried to smack them but I just kept losing health. I did like strategizing my way through the map each time. I love the music and the artwork. Congrats!

xoreaxeax 2022-04-05 18:08

Nice! I survived 9 days before the zombie thingies got me - but I found a radio!

marvis 2022-04-05 18:08

why can't I fight the enemy? I think it would be cool :)

greenphox 2022-04-05 18:12

Simple and nice game, really nice graphics too. The story telling was awesome too, good job!

cryptomnesic 2022-04-05 18:12

Sometimes I feeeel like I don't have a paaaartner.

wetburritosupreme 2022-04-05 18:16

Great little game, definitely fits the theme. I like the addition of the journal, really nice touch. Nice job!

angelicad 2022-04-05 18:16

Nice game!

subvertissement 2022-04-05 18:19

nice! made it to about day 21. game was simple, but fun!

sadly, at the end, the final screen had some display issue, but i could still make out most of it.

morricore 2022-04-05 18:20

@kristinamay > Nice work! Question: can you not fight the scary bad guys? I tried to smack them but I just kept losing health. @marvis > why can’t I fight the enemy? I think it would be cool :)

I thought about it, but I wanted to make it more like The Road movie. Opposite of modern Lara Croft crying over random animal and killing army of random dudes. Even if I did fighting - it would be balanced to make you awoid fighting as much as you can.

morricore 2022-04-05 18:21

@subvertissement > sadly, at the end, the final screen had some display issue, but i could still make out most of it.

Spoilers!

firellon 2022-04-05 18:30

Hey, a nice if depressing concept!

Not sure if there is any other ending than reaching Gecko, but I got there (and apparently died)

There is an issue of text formatting on the last screen, by the way:!

subvertissement 2022-04-05 18:34

@morricore removed the screenshot, just wanted you to see how glitched it was.

morricore 2022-04-05 18:38

@subvertissement @firellon thanks. Seem to be accidentally not noticed this one. Developing, switching to webgl and realising that huge part of the game broken or not work properly thing of its own.

feesh 2022-04-05 19:21

Overall solid game! It was a little rough trying to figure out the goal of the game as I felt like I was just wandering through each level picking up food. The art was really solid and the audio was really good setting an overall nice mood.

yaen 2022-04-06 19:56

Overall, I liked this concept. I felt like I always had enough food but the enemy encounters were the real problem for my playthrough. The diary pages in between with the little story pieces were a nice touch. Just wish there was a little more variation to it all. It gets quite samey after an ingame week. I survived 14 days in the end. It's generally quite impressive that you managed to make this alone during the jam. Cool!

Nice music by the way. Did you make it yourself?

morricore 2022-04-07 08:50

@yaen I kinda didn't had time to balance food in the gameplay formula, without making it unnecessary difficult, so I left little amount, but ended up with way to much anyway. Pre publish version where enemies were twice faster, and player has similar speed worked with food balance better. Music is from official unity tutorial I used as a foundation. https://github.com/intrepion/unity-tutorial-2d-roguelike/tree/master/Assets/Audio

suchista 2022-04-07 09:24

Hey, I got to Gecko! After I understood what's going on in the game I got really into it. Obviously more variety of gameplay would be nice. The journal is a great element of the game. It would be nice to operate through it using a keyboard. Overall, a well executed entry.

PS: Maybe you should opt-out from the Graphics and Audio categories? I'm not sure what to rate.

morricore 2022-04-07 10:58

@suchista thanks! I think I really should opt-out Audio category. Regarding Graphics. I thought it's about how it looks overall, one page graphic novel at main menu, menus, screens, ui, gameplay, post processing. Small decisions in various places that shape overall look. But yeah, I will opt-out it too.

squimmy 2022-04-07 12:42

Interesting idea. I was a little disappointed that the game ends abruptly upon reaching Gecko.

bottled-up-dark-peace 2022-04-07 13:06

I recorded my playthrough, you'll be able to find it on my youtube channel once I'll be done playing games : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcGSR_DYUY_BQIsujY2QXpg

It was nice, but it got repetitive pretty quickly. I suggest putting less food, as I never got below 10, I could just run through the levels without making any hard decision.

suchista 2022-04-07 13:15

@morricore Yeah, I'm not sure about rating it, but the whole layout looked nice :) Thanks for opting out tho. You can create a more advanced post-jam version with your own assets, it could be fun!

ilikescifi 2022-04-11 09:14

Very sweet. I mean i am a huge surival fan :) - but his was a fantstic Ludum Dare entry! Well done!

morricore 2022-04-11 13:06

@ilikescifi thanks) Seem to be your review was 20. Last one I need to get rated. So basically your review is special for me.

leokrechmer 2022-04-11 14:03

Really like the game! Nice mood and gamplay. The stroy doesn't let you get tired of the actual gameplay, and arts are just amazing! Great job!

morricore 2022-04-11 19:28

@leokrechmer seen recording of your stream. Thanks. You gave my new perspective on game. I thought little bit of unpredictability for enemies works nice, but point taken.

Also I didn't realised before, that game shows you record for next day in journal somehow. Spotted on recording of your stream. Ludum Dare coding moment.

zimny11 2022-04-12 15:36

Really cool game! I made it to 25 at best. Good job :)

adobobo 2022-04-13 12:52

I really like the game and the concept in here. My problem was I wasn't really sure if this was supposed to be played as a puzzle or as a survival game. They may have been rules for the zombies that I wasn't noticing. Maybe at least having them rotate or have a movement direction would have been nice.

I also noticed that the levels were procedurally generated, so great work! Anyways great game, hope there more variations in the levels and zombies, but good job!

otterfaelure 2022-04-13 17:16

The music really lined up nicely with the tension of the games idea. The [spoilers!] did feel a bit off though, but thinking up stuff like that can be challenging in the short span of a jam so, well done. =)

sofignedova 2022-04-14 00:33

The game turned out to be quite entertaining. Is it possible to die from radiation? Or will you die from a path that cannot be traversed? Were weapons planned or something else?

morricore 2022-04-14 09:51

@zimny11 thanks)

@adobobo) thanks. Actually it's something in-between puzzle and survival. Enemies AI takes features from both genres, but seem to be I made them too unpredictable. Not given player a clues, expecting everyone will find out on it's own their primitive AI. Enemies don't have direction. Only position. Tbh I wanted to make more narrative novels and pictures, like I did for main menu and side works, but I had no time.

@otterfaelure thanks) that was the idea. Give unusual formula of gameplay and unusual role in story that you can't experience anywhere else.

@sofignedova it was possible to die from radiation in infinite mode. Game still has death screen for this game over. You just can't get enough radiation.

This game over screen contain this text: `Life has light moments. After all the radiation you suffered - you became one of them`.

Infinite mode currently locked because I wasn't able to find time to finish it.

I would like to implement combat but I had no time even for more than one novel. So from the start I considered this feature unrealistic to implement in timespan I had. My estimation of what I need to make this properly, without ludonarrative dissonance far exceeded my capacity. If you seen movie or book Postman, than you will have rough idea how capable MC in fight would be.

smttz 2022-04-16 09:34

nice game concept, its fun and fits the theme nicely

artilor901z 2022-04-19 03:45

I love the theme, and cool graphics demonstration. nice work!!!

tominertv 2022-04-21 19:56

Really good idear. I love the graphics. :ok_hand:
