Couldnt beat it, but i never hurted the dog. NEVER HURT THE DOG.
Oustanding graphics and mechanics. Really liked the feel of the game and the character. No complicated plot, devices or anything, just bash'em till they are dead.
The choice system really fits into the theme, and the sacrifices actually matter into the game, making it progressively more difficult. I dont know exactly what happen if you hurt the dog, because i never hurted it. Something bad i guess. Ill not try.
Also, Dog is good dog. Dog is CROM dog. NEVER HURT THE DOG.

Oh my! This game is hard! Never ever hurt the dog lol xD Great idea... Fun to play. Beautiful Graphics. I love the lights btw :D The character`s movement is very fluid and responsive. Overall very fun and the theme is everywhere!

And my movement glitched out a couple of times. Reloading it fixed it tho ^^

Amazing game, most finalized i've played so far.
Everything is great i think, art is amazing (like really amazing, gg), sounds and music are great, mechanics well mastered (a little bugged tho but nothing big for a GameJam game, i were stucked in a wall for a while, or pressing multiple directions keys making one of them not working anymore)
I LOVE the "Sacrifice something about you, or about your only friend" thing !

@sadsmile @loethil Thank you for the feedback ! For the input problem, the download version has no problems at all.
This is actually caused when you move your mouse in the WebGL version while having a mouse button clicked. This causes the browser to select the game and everything below, getting the input stuck. Pressing the input again after clicking resolves that ;)
Gonna add a warning for that.

Great use of the theme and the game looks amazing graphically! I did find myself getting stuck in walls but I see you've already addressed that. Great work : )
I really like the artstyle, how did you do the shadows. and I of course never hurt the dog.

@rasmus-clausen Thanks a lot, we simply put 3D mesh on cast shadow only on top of their sprites and voilà :french_bread: .
Graphics are amazing and the gameplay works pretty well. Maybe the swing with the sword is a bit to slow, I know that it's intentional but I think less delay can give to the game more nervousness. The audio is pretty good! its funny to see how stupid can we are when you have to trade an armor or a dog, and you chose to leave the armor ahah. Nice job!

This game looks fucking amazing. First game I've given 5 stars to.
This has a lot of potential. The graphics are nice and I like the curve screen effect. The theme ties nicely into the hurt dog mechanic, which is brutal. The combat needs improvement, understandably it wasnt too fleshed out. I feel the delay for melee attacks is to long, like it takes too long to wind up.
Gameplay is great but graphics, animation, lighting and the mood is where this game shines. 5 stars from me. It was too hard for me to beat the game without hurting the dog, forgive me my friend :(.

@daniel-grinshpon We designed the lens effect to be very gentle, just enough to add a small effect, but not enough for people to notice. I'm surprised you noticed it ! Thank you ! :D

I had fun with this game and it was pretty fun to play. I always selected to hurt the dog so I guess I'm not such a nice person after all. You should keep working on this game and make a full release at some point. Well done!

Pretty fun game! graphics are pretty, good mood & smooth controls. As a idea, It would be nice if the dungeons were randomly generated to make each run different. Good work!
Haha I made a game about trying to make the players feel bad about hurting dogs in the last jam. But overall, the game looks incredible and plays smoothly. I love all of the subtle effects that really makes this game feel like a super polished, final product.

It is a very hard game! I only hurt the dog once just to check how it would be but I felt so bad :( The graphics and animations are so beautiful! The sounds are amazing! I love the feeling of this game and how well it plays!

I like the choice of the dog or your equipment. The main problem was exporting to webgl with lower settings than Ultra because it was laggy there. So I downloaded it and have fun 👍
@raphael-maia Thank you ! Anstabo indeed 3D modeled CROM (The player character), and rendered him in blender for all the animations. All in all, for the player, we had 8 direction, for two movement speeds (moving and idle). That's already 16 animations. Then we have the weapons ! 8 directions for each speed for each weapon (We have 2) when firing and idling. In total, that's 16 + 16 + 16 + 16 animations, for a total of 64, just for movements with weapons ;)
For the rest of the characters, Anstabo drew them in 2D. We then applied the same animations for different views, as they weren't as critical as the main character, and it saved a lot of time ! ;)
In the end, we used AnimatorOverrideControllers, and the list was quite scary : Capture.PNG
@nekonyo We had quite a few problems using the beta release of Unity 2018.3.0b12 (Because we couldn't resist nested prefabs and variants). What was the problem on WebGL exactly ? I know we have unexplained crashes on certain computers. I hope it didn't cause you too much troubles ^^'.

The mouse wasn't so snappy and the fps were low compared to the windows version. I just said that maybe going for other quality settings for webgl will be nice because it is a 2d game and you don't need the features of ultra

Very beatiful game (music / art). Played the "pacifist" and "genocide" both were extremely rewarding. Five stars all over!
@nekonyo Ah, I see. We actually used tricks in Unity to achieve the graphic quality of the game, such as replacing the sprite material by an actually lit shader, allowing us to use lights, using shadow only simple meshes to cast simple shadows, and using the new postprocess v2 system. Hence why we didn't want to compromise on the graphics quality. We didn't have the time to test each and every one of them, so we preferred to go with only one option we knew would render as planned ;)
Still, It is something I'll remember for next projects, thanks ! ;)

Very nice game, it's really cool to play. I didn't manage to get very far without dying but it was still enjoyable.
Amazing graphics. I would play a full release of Crom (I don't know if I could keep beating my dog through a full release...). Moody sound, great feedback for the strikes and everything worked really well (in the web version I got stuck in a wall a few times, but I played knowing the web version had some issues). Overall, great job, 5 out of 5 for art (the animation is so smooth!).
My only disappointment is there are not more "By Krom!" references in the comments.

Music and sound is great. However the movement is really buggy and constantly glitches out.
@sirmichel That's due to playing on the WebGL version. It's the browser selecting the webpage's content when clicking and moving the mouse. Not much we can do about that. You can play in fullscreen to avoid the issue altogether, or download the game ;)

I tried being merciful to Dog, but it did not do well. The next time I decided to only hurt Dog. Turns out he is not Good Dog. He is not Crom Dog. :(
Was fun. Going to give it another play through or two as the game just... felt fluid and fun. I did desperately enjoy it.
Okay, a few more playthroughs through and, boy is it hard to get past that one room with no axe.

Beautiful aesthetic and fun characters but I found the combat a bit frustrating, Crom's melee attack area felt pretty inconsistent and I spent most of the time back peddling or running circles around enemies, which wasn't very barbarian like :laughing: Great entry over all though. Nice work!

Visuals are amazing. Pixelated 3d character is great(Now I want to see the model), lights and shadows are stunning, I always love them in 2d pixel environments. Special thanks for writing all your tricks here as it is very important for me. Music is great as well. One thing that annoyed me in gameplay - ranged enemies damage you on collision. So, you have to charge them, but cant get too close as it will damage you. Sometimes it is just frustrating.
P.S. never hurt the dog

Great game! Pretty hard, took me a while to finish it (I've never hurt the dog).
I loved how the theme here was used both for emotional impact and for gameplay mechanics.

He was also of course modeled to be rendered only on the right points of view. We can lie all we want to the player, as long as he doesn't realize that is it a lie ;)
For the ranged enemies having contact damages, we had the same feedback from a few others sources. It's something that I didn't think about at all when I added the script to the mages, but it seems so obvious now. Shouldn't have added that :o

I like the way this game looks for sure! The 3D models blend in perfectly with the 2d art which makes everything look really nice and still gives you all the 3D advantages. Love it!
I'm not sure how I feel about having fewer mechanics the further the game progresses. Combat basically gets less interesting over time. I liked the idea of the boss being the dog at the end.
I'm not sure about this but does the dog get more difficult, the more you hurt it before? At first I tried to do a no dog-hurting run, but I found it too hard. Then, with some dog hurting, I found the dog too hard. Wish the dog had a health bar in the end.
I'm really impressed by how far you got with this game in such a limited time!

Awesome! Despite the game crashing on me a few times in the beginning, those graphics and the audio direction really sustained the cool mood of the game. I love the unique take on the theme and had lots of fun. However, it did feel like the controls had a delay to them at times. Other than that, a great entry!
Really good job guys! It was fun and the art is amazing!) A suggestion from me would be modifying the bullets. Bigger size (at least visualy) and a brighter color would make them pop up, so u don't get occasional "unfair" hits, when you just oversee them. Also slower bullet speed would allow for more interesting dodge mechainc (See doom 2 or Enter the Gungeon). But in the end its up to you! :D Also check out my fps game, I would appreciate any feedback and criticism!
Great game. It's weird not so many people saw this game. Maybe try to advertise by posting before the rating period ends. Nice work anyways!
