Fun game with really cool art

gudkova-ds 2024-10-08 18:47

Very nice art style and original level design, liked the mechanics with the level change. In my opinion, the game lacks checkpoints, well, or they are, and I just did not reach them ahahaha. Since you often die because of the complexity, the constantly repeating music is a bit annoying, probably you need to make it so that it does not start over again, but continues

ithildin 2024-10-08 20:45

Really fun! The game got a lot easier when I realised I could bump on enemies

I haven't beaten it yet (I've tried to defeat every mob, so I died at around ~~800~~ 1200 points, still not sure how close I am to the end) and to me it feels like the good kind of difficult. Every new run so far I've felt like I was reaching further away, and that motivates me to keep going.

Some minor annoyances or points for improvement: * In order to preserve the "keep going" mode, is it possible to restart when you die by pressing a key? the ones used in gameplay at least don't seem to work, and switching to the mouse adds some unnecessary friction. * I like the music track, it gives some chill vibes that contrast nicely with the challenging gameplay, but it is true that the loop is short and can get repetitive.

Despite those issues, the game is great. Awesome job!

@gmary thank you so much for playing and rating our game! the art of this game all belongs to @bluefire and his amazing creativity! and the idea of level switch was by me! the lack of checkpoints was because of the game currently being only a prototype made in 3 days and having only one level as of now, we would definitely be happy to turn this into an actual game with levels and stuff if it gets the required attention!

vector3cat 2024-10-08 21:37

@ithildin thank you very much for this awesome feedback! really appreciate it!

the parts of the game with the issues you mentioned were both made in the last hours of commission and i was in a hurry and anxious because it was my first time trying to come up with an idea and make it work in 3 days, for example, i wanted to make the buttons to only work with keyboard but i didnt get the chance to and had to use a simple premade button for it to work...and i owe my amazing artist @bluefire for being there and doing the art for me or else i wouldnt have been able to finish it up to the demo it is right now.

especially, the music was made literally half an hour before the deadline and it really made me mad making a very simple music for it because if i had enough time, i would have made an amazing song that wasnt annoying because of its looping.

@gudkova-ds Огромное спасибо за ваш удивительно добрый комментарий! Извините, если перевод не правильный, потому что я не знаю русского языка и перевожу это, но я очень ценю ваши слова! :) Я обязательно продолжу делать потрясающие игры!

Great art and an interesting platforming mechanic. Checkpoints would have been great. The enemy hitboxes were also quite uncompromising, to the point that I avoided jumping on them entirely. Overall a nice platformer.

iwant-pizza 2024-10-09 21:19

The music and sound effects are perfectly synced with the action

freshd 2024-10-09 22:27

Very cool switching mechanic! I would like to play it with WASD additional to the arrow keys but other than that it was fun! Great job! :)

jeremyws20 2024-10-10 11:35

Awesome game, would be cool to see and play it when its more polished. Great stuff

kseniya 2024-10-10 22:24

a very beautiful visual! The game is quite enjoyable! You guys are great

avi 2024-10-11 06:06

Such a beautiful game! And very fun mechanics -- nice work!

axodo 2024-10-11 15:47

Very cool concept. The art style is nice. But I find it a bit frustrating. It would be nice to have some checkpoints. Besides, I got many Game Over at the beginning without understanding why, like this one at the very beginning. The music loop is cool, but a bit too short.

Nice game tho :)

@axodo its a bug in this early prototype version where the enemies can hurt the player from the other side...

it will be fixed in the full version we are currently making.

thanks for your rating and feedback!

I like the magical shift key that brings the player to a mirror world. That puts the game into a league of its own. It was challenging but not too difficult, except for the fact that I have only one life. It would be great if I started with three hearts, and if I had the chance to heal along the way. That being said, this is a creative game with an unusual twist. A solid entry.

radiorat 2024-10-13 14:21

Really cool split-screen mechanic!

rezistor 2024-10-14 10:49

Great concept! Would love to have fast restart button bind instead of button which needs to pressed with mouse. Great work tho!

tomssuli 2024-10-17 18:02

Nice idea! I liked shifting the dimensions. The music was nice and the total atmosphere reminded me of the old Giana Sisters games from the 80's. Pixelart was well drawn and cute.

I wanted to play for longer, but always died when I jumped in the air here:

why_did_i_die.png

I don't know what killed me. I didn't even press the switch button yet. I suspect it's a glitch but it always happens at the same spot and it saddens me as I would have wanted to see if the switching was used more innovatively later on in the game, such as avoiding enemies in tight spaces etc.

Anyway - apart from that glitch and the lack of save spots - fun entry!

vector3cat 2024-10-20 13:55

@tomssuli yeah, as i answered before to another comment about this same problem, its a bug in this early prototype version where the enemies can hurt the player from the other side, so if you are in a position, and the other part of you in the other part of the screen is in the mirrored position of that relative to the middle of the screen and there is an enemy there, you die.

we are currently working on the full game, and i would really appreciate it if you give it a second chance when it fully comes out!

thanks for the feedback!

tomssuli 2024-10-20 14:11

@vector3cat Thanks for the answer

Tag me when you have the full game available and I'll try it out!

weine 2024-10-20 16:10

Interesting concept, but I almost gave up before crossing the first gap due to bugs and unforgiving game mechanics. After reading a few comments I found out about jumping on enemies, which made it much a bit easier. Still too unforgiving for me to try beating the level, though. Would be interesting to play again when it is more complete.

dzejpi 2024-10-23 17:06

Beautiful artstyle; it looks lovely! Love trees and the background! Great concept which I don't think I've seen in this jam yet and I bet that was tricky to implement in this short amount of time.

Otherwise the game is tough as nails, and it took me embarrassingly long to figure out how to get over the first gap, haha. Not sure if there's anything I could add which wasn't said above, but what I miss the most are checkpoints. Plus it's a good idea to make enemy hitboxes slightly smaller than the enemies themselves - it would feel more fair and fun to play.

Otherwise very good entry, loved it! Keep it up!

yaen 2024-10-23 18:00

Unfortunately couldn't play because it just started into a black screen and then closed itself :(

vector3cat 2024-10-26 22:00

@yaen unfortunately, thats a known problem of godot 4.x with low-end devices...

we cant do anything about it.. sorry!
