Its not a bad game but the controls need a lot of work. The idea is excellent, and the play is excellent, just the controls are bad

ronanrory 2022-04-06 20:13

@beebster-games - Thanks very much for your feedback. There probably should've been more leeway when shoving people aside, that I can agree with; but moving the character around WAS supposed to be slightly awkward.

Doors could've been a little better, probably, but I don't know how that could be done. Thanks again for playing.

perrin 2022-04-06 22:00

Shame you didn't have fun with the event. I had some fun with the game but yeah the controls felt a bit clumsy and I sometimes got stuck on horizontal doors.

cursedembassy 2022-04-07 12:02

Decent game, ik the theme was a bit meh this time xD still hope to see you again next time! if not, you still did a decent job! :) like someone mentioned, the controls could use a bit of work :)

ronanrory 2022-04-07 19:30

@cursedembassy - Eh, I'm not going to enter Ludum Dare again for a while; this is likely going to be the last event I'll participate in. As I said, I don't do well with strict deadlines.

mekuri 2022-04-07 20:27

Based on what you've written in the description (And your post on the frontpage) I'm not sure how much feedback you want, but here goes: First off, I found the idea quite interesting. The controls were frustrating, but not necesarily in a bad way. I mean maybe a bit of tweaking could help, but the whole idea of them was quite nice. Game was hard, which is also good- It was (For me) a bit inconsistent though. For instance, I was stuck in the second level for quite a while (And even bugged through the wall, ending up with pee all over the place), but third and fourth I just breezed through like it was nothing. Sound effects were a bit lacking, but the ones that were there, was spot on. The whole 'ooff' sound was just great, and bumping into the wall next to the door, or into a coworker, almost made it feel like I was the poor guy, running for the toilet, with no time to spare :-) Theme wise, I guess it makes sense. I mean, it's alway inevitable that we need to go number one or two :-)

All in all, I had fun playing - Don't be too hard on yourself with this one, You managed to finish a game, (And one I, for one, had fun with) with gameplay in it- Just think of all the ones that didn't cross the finish line :-)

Anyways... thanks for sharing your game :-)

ronanrory 2022-04-07 20:40

@mekuri - Thanks very much for writing such a detailed comment! As for feedback, I don't necessarily request a LOT of detail, that's just what I do when writing comments; perhaps I could edit my post clarifying that, but I don't think that is too important. Anyways, I'm now going to write MY thoughts on your game. Thanks again!

kimberly 2022-04-07 20:44

Fun little game. Shame you didn't have fun with this jam, although I do hope to see more someday! Might be fun to try to learn another engine perhaps?

Tip for next time, whenever you do something like this again. Downloading a game from Google Drive is a little sketchy. Consider setting up an Itch account

ronanrory 2022-04-07 20:49

@kimberly - Apologies about the Google Drive thing; I realize only NOW that I do have a GameJolt account, so that means I should provide a link there as well. Thanks very much for reminding me! I'll get to your game soon, just give me some time!

jk5000 2022-04-08 06:46

The idea is funny and I had some fun playing it, but I am not super fan of the controls.

fupi 2022-04-08 15:55

Hey I saw some of your posts during dev time. Congrats on getting something done! Unlike the others, I really like the controls! It's an unusual and wacky but understandable. I only wish there was something like an arrow, or more running sprites from different angles, so I'd know visually where I was going. Aside from that it's a fun game! The sounds are funny and the graphics are charming too, programmer art has its perks.

allax 2022-04-08 22:07

Cool game, but control is sucks

nate-bit-games 2022-04-08 22:18

Funny! Controls are a little tough but added to the fun. Main complaint was that I was hoping for more levels. Nice difficulty progression too.

adamk33n3r 2022-04-08 23:21

Nice work getting this out with the little time you had! The sound effects were a nice touch and while the controls were hard to get used to, I thought it they added to the frantic nature of the plot

etchell 2022-04-09 04:56

Really fun mate!

I think this would actually make a good mobile game. Touch left side of screen to turn anti-clockwise, right side of screen to turn clockwise.

Next steps: Add a screenshake on collision Add some more levels Record times to get through levels (Leader board??) work on a random level generator!

I think you're being really hard on yourself in your description. Making games IS REALLY HARD. and in three days, you completed a product and released it for people to play and judge. That is something to be really proud of!

mavvy 2022-04-09 06:11

Hey, I thought this was a neat entry. I would've appreciated a little more nuanced collision with these controls, but you nailed the game's personality! I burst out laughing when I heard the coworker being shoved, great stuff!

moondweller 2022-04-09 14:37

Hahah, this entry did make me laugh. A really fun idea (and poster, of course).

wouter52 2022-04-09 17:49

A fun entry! I think my controls would be difficult for my brain too if I had to go and pee that bad ^^"

I'm sad to hear that you did not really have fun developing your game, LD should be about fun! I can understand that you feel a bit stressed out, and I read (I think even two times now) that this could be your last LD. If you decide to return to LD (maybe in a view years) make sure to do an "I'm in post", as I am following you on here, I'll see it and put you on my "to play list" right away

What I thought about the game: - Graphics are cute and unique - The controls are very difficult! I think you did that on purpose, but it takes some getting used to and I don't know if everyone will recognize that - The game could have benefitted from some background music, maybe some classical elevator music in this case. I would have found that very funny

ronanrory 2022-04-09 20:48

@wouter52 - It's great to see a detailed response to my game! But yeah, I don't see myself joining another Ludum Dare for a while; I just don't handle the deadline well when it's getting close.

Now while it IS pretty cool to hear that you're following me, I've said that I'll be going on a hiatus, which wouldn't be the best time to follow someone. I'm not telling you to unfollow me, do whatever you want (within reason), but it'll be a long time before you remember that you followed me.

It's great to finally see someone who figured that I made the controls awkward on purpose! And I was originally thinking of making music, as one of my jam goals, but I wasn't sure what I could make that would fit the style, and your suggestion is a great idea! And I could *barely* come up with any of those this competition.

And to end this post, I thought that if you had to pee *REALLY* bad, I doubt you'd be sprinting full speed to the bathroom, you'd be doing the exact opposite in the form of *walking real slowly and awkwardly.* That's just an observation I made later on during the jam.

Anyways, I'm VERY glad that you enjoyed my entry, have a great day!

seng 2022-04-10 08:42

Great idea. Even though you are saying the controls are like this on purpose it's still infuriating getting through doors

Still made me laugh. Thanks for the game!

luis-felipe-patrocinio 2022-04-10 16:21

It took me a while to get used to the controls, but I liked them. The details lacked a little more care, like a background music, but the sound effects in general were pretty good. The screen transition was also very nice. It is a very solid game for a Jam, congratulations.

jozgames 2022-04-10 17:13

Não sei como conseguiu fazer essa atrocidade com o controle do personagem, mas pelo menos ficou diferenciado

ronanrory 2022-04-10 20:10

@luis-felipe-patrocinio - I guess what irks me most regarding lack of detail would be the level decorations; it just looks a bit *too* simple for what I wanted to do. Thanks very much for your feedback

@jozgames - Uh, I'm trusting Google Translate on this one. But wow! That's gotta be the harshest take on my controls yet, but it SURE is honest. Uh, thanks very much?

Also, I decided to take a look at your previous entries, and it is absolute SIN how low the Graphics category scores on them! It is truly amazing that you manage such detail in 3 DAYS! So yeah, I'm glad to have exposed you to this "atrocity" of controls (which was on purpose), thanks again.

jozgames 2022-04-10 23:26

@ronanrory Eu também gosto de experimentar jogabilidades diferentes, nem sempre fica bom, mas sempre fica único, hehe

twistedhawk 2022-04-13 06:15

This game is funny, and fun! If you'd like to improve it, tweak the controls and expand the content. Maybe even have a scavenger hunt, and have items that delay the pee! Nice work!

khaotom 2022-04-13 07:26

This game made me laugh out loud! The goofy steering controls fits the comedic aspect. The way the character looks when he runs. And that inevitable pee. Very funny!

ronanrory 2022-04-13 21:03

@twistedhawk @khaotom - Thanks very much you two. It really is great to hear that!

marianoa213 2022-04-14 00:08

Very funny game! You should add levels as well. 9.25/10

epicgamefan 2022-04-14 00:19

Too funny. I enjoyed the game play. Cracked up laughing the when I ran into my first door jam. I ran out of levels, would have kept playing. Great entry.

paulhocker 2022-04-14 02:00

well for not having fun making it, you sure made a fun game. you should be proud of what you made. great game.

ronanrory 2022-04-14 02:03

@paulhocker - Aww, that's very sweet of you! Thanks so much, I definitely needed to hear something like that!

proxy-games 2022-04-14 08:48

I had a lot more fun playing this than I was expecting. I have to be honest-the sound effect for the guy running into stuff basically made the game for me. That one sound effect is absolutely perfect. The concept is unique for this jam, and it connects to the theme well. The graphics aren't anything special, but they are clear and concise-it's easy to see the gameplay. It's sad that you didn't have fun making this, and are considering quitting Ludum Dare, but it's understandable. Ludum Dare is meant to be fun, and it isn't fair for you to force yourself to do this out of some sort of obligation.

Whatever choice you make in terms of continuing Ludum Dare will be the right one. For what it's worth, you've ended with a pretty fun game.

ronanrory 2022-04-14 21:03

@proxy-games - I'm happy to hear you enjoyed my entry! Perhaps I could experiment with different artstyles, but I haven't been very good with getting around to learning art-related stuff.

But yeah, I've now fully realized that Ludum Dare just isn't the event for me. Honestly, I should just say that a "final post" isn't ACTUALLY going to happen; not to sound self-deprecating, but who's going to care that I'm gone from this site? I haven't had such an impact on people that me leaving would be an event in and of itself.

But I digress, I just start getting stressed out when the deadline nears. And even apart from that, well, I've already written my shame of having no idea whatsoever with this jam. And while that sucks donkey balls, what sucked even MORE donkey balls was the previous Ludum Dare. It's no competition (wait, what?)

It is a sight to behold, my tirade about my LD49 experience. It is a **seriously** ugly sight to see, and it can be seen on the very entry page! That is a VERY good representation of me at my worst, and what a deadline can turn me into in a worst-case scenario. Though this problem's also compounded with me wanting to *finish a game,* because I tend to have made plenty of progress by then, and I don't want to stop at that point. And so, after that experience, I absolutely **_LOATHE_ anyone who says:**

🤪 - *"Just make sure to finish something, *no matter WHAT!*"*

Yeah, I did that, and how 'bout you take a look at **the toll it had on my mental state.** Yep, absolutely-

NOTHING BAD THAT COULD HAPPEN DOING THAT!

Oops, I got a little distracted and started ranting. Apologies, it just means a lot to me. Thanks very much for your feedback, and I hope to the high heavens your future Ludum Dare endeavors end MUCH better than my previous one, as of typing this. Uh, I don't know a good way to send off this post, but I've said enough here. Have a good day.

vixenmink 2022-04-15 01:31

This game is so silly. Obviously relatable toilet humor and a play on the action of "get out of the way NOW".

It took me a bit to get the movement smoothed out but I eventually got used to it. I just kept imagining if someone really was bouncing off everything as they are literally about to mess themselves.

Great job getting this one out there and I look forward to seeing either more development on this one or your next game. Keep it up, you got this!

angiemon 2022-04-16 15:47

Hey there, congrats on finishing your game! :)

First of all, fun idea - the controls are a bit hard to grasp, so adding a little strategy guide might have been nice (even if it's just a text on the game page) but I understand the time is tough with gamejams and it can be a little overwhelming, also with working alone I can imagine! (I can't code, so I never did this ^^ so kudos to you!)

After a little try and error I got the hang of it - there definitely could have been better controls assigned to make it more intuitive - or like a little UI thing indicating like the balance of the player and indicating where exactly he is steering to - but that being sad, I get it, we also started our level way too hard and nobody got the controls - hence why I added a tutorial level the days after the deadline, so I totally feel you, haha.

We also tend to forget that we just worked 72 hours on this thing and are pros at it - and the players are not :)

Again, a fun concept, you can proud to have finished this :)

black-flag 2022-04-18 08:50

I really liked the the player's animations and the idea was very humorous! The sound effects added to the game, while there weren't many of them, the ones that were there were very good!

I actually think the awkward controls worked well to create more panic in the player and to make the game feel more hectic, I think maybe the bouncing off the walls feature should have been disabled around doors just to make them a little bit less frustrating when you go through them, the other times where the bounce feature is used though works well and adds to the overall comical feel of the game! The level design worked well, especially where you had to go for multiple runs to actually find the goal, this gave the game a sense of exploration which I enjoyed!

Overall, I enjoyed playing, great game!

binaryprinciple 2022-04-19 03:05

Is always frustrating to have a theme that simple does not stick with you. My advise is to think more of a game mechanic and then you build the theme around it, check on simple games from the arcade era for inspiration.

Now regarding the game, I think you have a chance to do something extra fun with it, and rebuild it around a rage game. The controls and theme are there. Maybe add extra dangers, or let him release himself in different places (plants, cubicles, corners) but you need to avoid been seen or your shame / college rage bar will go up and hunt you down.

peace-of-cake-games 2022-04-21 20:01

Personally I think the difficult controls match the frantic rush for the toilet perfectly, although there didn't seem to be a point in shoving the coworkers out of the way when you can just run around them.

As far as I know I've only given all-5-stars ratings to three games this Ludum Dare, and this is one of them! You nailed the Humor and Theme categories in my opinion, and the game is *very* polished for a game where you didn't even start on it for an entire day.

Good job making such a fun and polished game in such little time, even if it was a bit short!

ronanrory 2022-04-21 21:10

@peace-of-cake-games - Eh, I did realize how superfluous it is to shove coworkers away, but I decided to keep it in anyways (it took some time to create, okay!). I'm most definitely glad to see you finally play my entry, and thanks very much for your feedback!

Let's see how our games fared in the end! Yours will beat mine, that's for certain!
