i found my self clicking on some items multiple times to try and pick them up and move them. i think that the pick up system could be more forgiving.

The graphics are cool. Cthulhu is very funny. But I didn’t really understand the gameplay, it’s like keeping balance, but it’s not very clear when you’ll do it right and when you don’t. It seems to me that there is a little lack of feedback.

ljol3 2021-10-05 23:37

the art was good and the gameplay fun, but it took me a while to start dropping food. Then it took another while to even realize that was costing me score. it needed some more clear distinction of high score and feedback or maybe an end goal to achieve.

I find it very funny the big mythical beast is now balancing food. The idea is great. There are two points however, firstly, its the pace of the game, it is very slow, just speed it up a little. Also, the fading system is very slow and you have no idea when it is going to start. All in all, its a good game.

mylene-lelievre 2021-10-05 23:40

really like the transition gag to his new job

marc-jones 2021-10-05 23:43

Absolutely amazing art, and the main screen of Cthulhu in an apron is a funny sight! The mechanic is interesting, although I thought the fading out of the food made things difficult as it was harder to see, at a glance, how much was on each platform. Perhaps the food disappearing could have been communicated differently, like flashing before disappearing? As others have said, a little more feedback on whether you'd clicked on food would have been appreciated, like an outline or a colour change. A very nicely presented game.

The art style is top notch, and the music is fun. The mechanic is easy to grasp and challenging as the game progresses. Nice job!

proxy-games 2021-10-06 04:25

The art in this absolute beautiful, and the music is simple but very catchy. I also love how the intro artwork builds up this game as very serious, but then it suddenly cuts to Cthulhu working as a server. That was really well done build up towards a joke. The gameplay is simple, but addicting, balancing food on two different trays to keep both around the same weight. I do wish the game was paced a bit faster, as it took a while before the game started introducing new food types with different weights that make balancing the trays a lot more difficult. Overall, this was a lot of fun. Good job.

Love your game! Never expected to see c'thulhu in a fast food restaurant, but here we are. Got to about 250 in score before I started dropping things all over the place.

scratch 2021-10-06 16:45

Really nice art, and the humour in the intro scene made me crack up! It took me a while to realize that dropping food of the plate made me lose points, so my super smart cheat wasn't so smart after all...

liquidfunk 2021-10-06 20:29

Dude I laughed so hard when it cut to Cthulhu's job. Really nice!

xparker 2021-10-06 21:06

Gotta love the title

Job is also great, game play is good up to about 150... then it just spammed me  love it

Thanks to everyone, all the feedback has been very useful, and we will try to make a post jam version, with all these fixes and more ideas that we didn't have the time to implement.

@jcmonkey @marc-jones true, the clic needs feedback and we will see how to make it more forgiving.

@muros yes, one of the ideas we had, and didn't had time to implement was levels with an end goal

@gradientogames turns out, making a game with a physics engine is hard xD, but yup, we'll tweak the gravity and object's mass to speed it up a little bit. And the fading could be improved, we will try some other options, like blinking, or a timer.

Thanks again to everyone, we are super happy to see people enjoying the game.

Great Job! Love how Cthulhu gets a job in restaurant service because of the poor economy! The game runs nicely and I love the artwork. Congratulations!

anaxie-studio 2021-10-07 16:52

Epic art guys! I like the funny dialogue and the game feels solid.

dogez 2021-10-08 11:35

Face of your Cthulhu is the most hilarious thing i've seen! And of course — art is awesome 😍

t1h4n 2021-10-08 16:23

Squid be doing a job. Good Squid!

ve-ret 2021-10-08 21:50

I find the main character cute. Although the appearance from the game's splash screen resembles Heimerdinger (as Alien) from the League of Legends game, it nevertheless attracted attention with a beautiful splash screen

vivyhasadream 2021-10-09 02:49

the food made me so hungry lol. love the art. it fun keep balancing in this game.

denzil-gomes 2021-10-09 10:07

I like the premise! The art is also amazing. I think the gameplay could use a little more feedback perhaps? Well done though on getting something this polished

I promise to write a more full-fledged comment, but in the meantime, here's the live-recording: https://youtu.be/8_LZxCDpWIE?t=840

Funny and one hell of cool art, the graphics are so well draw that made me love the game

cjce 2021-10-11 18:26

Really great art and really good exectution!

Alright, the full comment:

Excellent work on the art and intro cutscene. Even the droopy music significantly adds to the polished presentation of the game. It would have been nice to see some squishy/moist sound effects to add to the comedy of the game, but either way, the game reads quite professionally.

I think the biggest problem I had was the slow start and somewhat bizarre stats balancing of both the physics of the game, the grace-period of screwing up the balancing, and scoring. The slow format of the game makes the game a bit too easy to play: even when I get overwhelmed with too many food items, the point that made me quit the game was when I couldn't reasonably keep the *foods* on the plates, rather than keeping the plates balanced. While I think it was a good idea to keep a scoring system to motivate the player to keep the food from falling, it also became the primary source of frustration for me. As mentioned earlier, I "quit" the game when I realized I couldn't reasonably keep the food on the plate, and raise the score.

I think having stages that reset the food and plate's placement would help provide the player a sense of progression. It might be also interesting to add either a time or score gate to avoid making the "drop food away from the plates" a viable strategy for keeping the plates balanced longer.

Overall, I thought it was a pretty cute minigame. I did think the arcade nature made me feel like this is more of a one-and-done sort of game. I recognize it was the first attempt at exploring the Godot game engine, though, so hopefully with more experience under your plate (pun intended,) the next Ludum Dare games might become more complex.

Art is gorgeous. Music makes it pretty fun. It1s hilarious to see Cthulhu as a waitress. The use of unstability is very creative. I liked it very much.
