Very Cool game! I love how the art style meshed so well with how it plays!

Very Cool game! I love how the art style meshed so well with how it plays!
Awesome game art. It gives a very nice mood to the game. I also like the variety of gameplay and strategies. Very well done!
the game is pretty interesting, it is pretty hard to play with some of the bugs. though i did enjoy playing the game. for the shop i would clear the text from the screen, its a bit confusing to know if i actually baught the item i went to hit enter after it said too and it seemed to want to sell it to me a second time. id be ok with a gui shop and click a button to buy the item. the exploring is interesting, i could see the old mud style directions built into this game after the jam. like input commands to go a particular direction or not, or to maybe search for items or hidden things.
Nice game! I like the concept, very Majora's Mask-ish. It seems like there is a lot of depth to it, though it can be a bit overwhelming at first.
Played this game 2 times. I am very impressed that you coded an entire RPG combat system in 2 days! In terms of feedback, I think a bgm for each of the three areas can be nice. Also in terms of balancing, I picked HP instead of attack the second time, and I do no damage to mud frog lol. But nice game overall.
Wow - very retro. Great pixel art, really nicely done on that. I died to a dragon with 45 attack. There was one time that looked a bit like a bug, I was fighting a monster who started at 0 health. Not sure if that was intentional. I went ahead and fought it and it went to -4 health in 1 hit and died.
I did not manage to beat the game, it seems quite difficult! Probably need to balance the different explore areas better. I never know when to sleep at the Inn, definitely some decent timing in that.
Neat little game for those that love retro styled games. Reminds me of the classic pokemon games with a bit of UNDERTALE mixed in it. Nice work!
Feels like one of those old school rpgs, i really enjoyed it! I love the graphics, and even tho i think this game could live with some mouse controls, its totally fine the way it is. Some work on balancing, but for the time on hand a great entry!

Love the retro vibe, really old school. The game is pretty hard though.
Cool game
Awesome vibe & mood- impressed with how much you managed to implement! As with your post on my game, I have no idea how you'd be able to implement all this in gamemaker, no less in 2 days.
Nice! Balance is kind off though. Some enemies had no health and died instantly. Others were too strong, and I could never run away when I needed to. (You address the 0 health thing in the known bugs area but yeah.) And the starting items seem misbalanced. 1000 gold when you start with 500 seems pretty useless after each fight gives you around 200 or so.
There are a lot of systems ! It's quite impressive considering the time of the ludum dare.
You packed a lot in there in just 48 hours- congrats. I enjoyed the worldbuilding you did, and the game is pretty intuitive. I didn't feel like I had much player agency though. For example, I did not understand why I would select Defense instead of either Attack or Run. Audio was pleasing in a retro manner.
Cool concept, Enjoyed the retro vibes. It felt like playing a minimalist, stripped down RPG, which it was! I did manage to hang the game during exploration, I think by pressing enter while exploring (like when it says "Going explore... 10 minutes passed" but before you find loot or a monster or whatever). It popped up the "continue exploring" dialog but wouldn't respond to any key presses. I couldn't reproduce the bug a second time though, so who knows.
Very nice! reminds me of SanctuaryRPG, I feel like this will take a VERY long time to get to a point where you could kill the angel, but that may just be me
A hugely impressive amount of content for 48 hours - and a great retro feel!
Felt very old school in all the right ways, great work :)
Really really cool! I enjoyed playing it! The defence stat was a bit confusing to me, but I eventually got it. The sound effects were good, having the console in the bottom telling you what was happening was useful. + I really liked the art for the enemies.
Great job overral!
Quite cool as a concept, but for me it just didn't have it in the theme. Yeah, the attack of the angle is inevitable, but you can't exactly delay it.
Other than that, it felt really nostalgic and cool.
The retro gameplay and style got me hooked. I never thought a text adventure rpg would be so engaging on a gameplay front. With more story and a polished gameplay system this game would go from really good to downright awesome. Keep it up!
Some really neat ideas here and a good concept for a "you're doomed" RPG, but there're bugs that make it a bit less fun. Lots of art which is impressive!
Finished the game at level 49 in one run by picking start with 20HP option, getting health potions from forest, and leveling in ruins. Boss fight was boring damage sponge which could not hit player. Menu-driven interface was fine and core gameplay loop was fun to see coin counter go up but no foreseeable replay value once you beat game within 30 minutes. Enjoyed the enemy names & graphics.
This is great overall! As you mentioned in your description, there were a few spelling errors (ehehe "florest"), and the balance was a bit off, but the game reminded me of RPG browser games I used to play back in the day. Great job considering the time constraint!
Great entry, the amount of mechanics you've included is impressive. Loved the old-school mood. Had some issues with balancing, some enemies would absolutely destroy me and others were super easy. Awesome game :)
So much fun, smooth and simple and alot of fun, loved the combat and just this style of game aced it
This game very much harkens back to 90s text-RPG games, and I very much like that. The sprite work, color choices, and font selections all fit that style very cohesively. SFX are very simplistic and 8-bit (again, matching the style this piece is going for). It's impressive just how much is here in terms of exploration and enemies. Random encounters are very pleasant. I especially loved when I went into the 'florest' (sorry, guys, couldn't resist).
This game was a lot of fun! Nice work!
Very impressive for a COMPO game for the sheer content. I like the mood of art-style. The details make the game work even though its just menus. One of my favorites from the Jam so far.
Nice game. I liked the looks of UI and enemies. I feel the pace could be faster, though. Takes a good while to get started. I feel this a jam specific thing. You want to get into the meat of the game fast. I didn't hear any music, but maybe I didn't get far enough?
EDIT: If you can enable full screening the game, it would be great. I was having some difficulties reading.
Good job with the piece!
Grinded for 30 minutes and in the end it was just spamming "enter" so I spammed the "portal" button too and the game got stuck. I really loved the frog enemy. It was cute. Really nice game that made me want to finish it. Just shame that I didn't get to see the ending. ;__; Good job!
Pretty fun game, the only concern I have is the beep happening when you press enter even when you still waiting to do the next action. Besides that it was a good experience of a crpg!
It managed to instantly make me feel like in the classic cRPG's so that's a plus. It reminded me of Bard's tale and that made me wonder how your game would be with walking around in the exploration bit. Great work!
Cool game! Loved the art style and the gameplay.
I'd like it if the screen size could become bigger.
Amazing how you managed to make such a polished game in 48h.
I really liked the sounds and visuals!
Good job!
nice10/10 for art 7/10 for gameplay but still fun
Thank you all for the feedbacks! I'm giving feedback on other games (especially those in the danger zone so everyone can score!) but today I'm going to work on fixing some small bugs.
The game was nice i liked playing it got killed by a frog in the forest.
I found a bug to one shot enemies. It didn't happen during the boos though. I recorded myself playing, message me on the Jam’s discord @ Dark Peace and I’ll send it to you. Can the boss actually be beaten ? Like, theoratically ?
@bottled-up-dark-peace win.png
This player did it, I haven't had time to respond to all comments yet, but I believe that because of his strategy it is possible (the forest is the easiest place to get items, and the ruins are the best place to get coins.)
An RPG for the compo is always super impressive! It was quite fun too, reminded me of old BBS games like Legend of Red Dragon and Usurper! Great work!
I loved it. The retro style is very well applied. This is a game that I'll probably play again later. Nice work
Super good. I especially love how easily you can navigate the UI.
Really neat idea. I have a soft spot for RPG games likes this, so enjoyed this quite a bit
Very cool game and cool concept ! Sadly, the game got softlocked on the final day and I wasn't able to go through the portal anymore
I watched Nebiros play this on his stream and couldn't stop myself : your game is super cool. Sadly it becomes a bit repetitive quite fast, but that's an LD game after all. I started with 10 potions, got lucky enough to only need half of them and grind'd my way to level 24 or something like that. With over 240 defence the boss couldn't hit me, so it was just a question of time before he died.
Overall, while it's very fun, the game feels like it has a weird scaling (again, not something I'll expect anyway from an LD game ^^). I laughed a lot when a spider got me 10k gold while the next one gave me 0. Very well done, and the little dragon warrior is super cute !
This was a very cute game, loved killing the frogs (wait, is that a bad thing?)! Found a small bug in the forest where it gave me old enemies with 0 HP but other then that solid entry!
I finally got it, took me about an hour but I manage to finish it. I had to try a few times. Tried with every start possible and died every time, but I learned. My final strat was to start with defense 10 and go armor at the beginning. This made it very hard for enemies to hit me. I would grind the forest a bunch (which took a while, but since combat rounds don't count towards day time, it doesn't matter too much). I would level up defense first (I'm still at 10 HP, I'm squishy) then get the armor and finally weapons. After a while monster couldn't hit me even with their best rolls. From then on I spammed the ruins and was getting so much money I could level up anything. I didn't know what to expect for the angel so I grinded myself out of a challenge.
Here are my final stats (DEF is 300) : chrome_CmatqZ8vhT.png
About the game overall : I had a lot of fun. It felt a lot like D&D (in a good way) with attack rolls and armor class.
Art is simple but has some nice enemy designs. Wouldn't mind putting them into my jam entry TBH ;) Menus work and are simple to navigate. Had a bit of a problem in WebGL because ya can't press Escape xD. Music and sounds are functionnal but on point. The fact that you added a boss music was a great touch.
The combat system felt good to play, understand and to theorize. The random aspect from O HP enemies and sporadic coin rewards was fun because you never knew what to expect around the corner : a O HP Galaxy frog that gave you 1000+ coins, or a big unkillable dragon that can one shot you if you try to run. But ultimately it kills any sort of balance you can do upstream.
The programming looks simple like this, but I know how complex it probably is underneath.
In the end I am really grateful you drop a comment on my game so that I could see yours. It does feel similar in the RPG (go back to town, grind) aspect but very different in execution. Amazing job !
Thank you all for the feedbacks! Today I'm releasing a version with some bugs fixed, but I decided to leave some (like monsters with 0 health) because they generate a funny reaction from players in lives!
I thank everyone!
I was impressed with the graphics. I like playing these type of games. Reminds me a bit of buried bones.
Great game. Love the art and will definitely play it again
I thought I was ready for the boss - I wasn't. The boss had a fair bit of stat that I didn't expect, which is often a good thing, really surprised me that I do not have enough defense to even tank it. That said, unfortunately I wasn't able to fight the boss because you can spam enter which is what I like to do with my rpg in general and behold, bug. It basically softlocked me from being able to play the game because the dialogue just doesn't progress anymore. Still very good game for a jrpg fan like me who enjoys grinding the life away, good job on making the compo despite the bugs!
Love these retro text adventure with a graphical interface type games! They take a minute to register how strong an enemy can be but for me that has a certain nostalgia :') great submission!
Nice game ! It was a bit hard to understand everything that was going on (the font is a bit hard to read i think), but one you start to understand how the game works, it starts to get more fun ! I think a post-compo version could be really cool, with a bit clearer interface and some re-balancing (even though it seems more like bugs, since a 0hp monster is an interresting sight X) )
Really like the art style. It was fun and I had a hard time stopping! Might be nice to have a bit more variation in terms of the upgrades and items you can buy, but still, great job!
Great entry, I loved the level of depth. I was hooked after I got the hang of it and loved the amount of different enemies. The battles were really good, I wish I had not enter the portal yet but I was so tempted and I did not last long there :D. Great job and thank you for your feedback again.
this was a lot of fun and it looks like you put a lot of effort into the gameplay. i have added it to my play again list so that i can get some more enjoyment out of it. great job on the game.
The Final Day3.PNG I did it lol Was very fun to play. It needs to get more balanced but the old CRPG vibe is here with lovely sprites and sound design!
Well done!
Well done on your old-school-styled RPG! Some thoughts:
- When you attack, and you don't hit, there is no sound played. I was expecting some sound indicator that I missed - The text in the beginning is a bit hard to read. It is a great font for UI elements, but less fit for paragraphs - The music and graphics are very nicely done! - I love how you implemented and end screen, although you never thought it could be beaten. (i did not finish it, but clearly solah did ^^")
It feels like a really complete RPG, though I think maybe the RNG could be lessened a bit. As others have said, getting 0 gp from a giant monster and 1000 from something small was a bit odd. I liked the monsters though, everything was very cute! I also did not beat the game, I saw the giant damage sponge and assumed it wasn't to be beaten, but I had fun playing!
Wow, cRPG for a Ludum Dare game is ambitious, especially for a Compo entry, but I nail it! The pixel is of creatures is amazing and the in-game mechanics are well-designed. I think there is a bug with some creature having HP of 0/0 from the start of the fight. Anyway, awesome job, really impressive!
very cohesively designed game. everything is as it should be for this kind of homage to old RPG games. only thing i can suggest is maybe adding some kind of simplistic visual effect for when the monsters are hit/defend/etc. i think there is definitely a market of people who eat these types of games up and are basically starved at this point, so polish this game up and get it out!
Impressive art and presentation! Trained a bit, bought some stuff, took the portal and got one shot by the angel. 10/10 would do it again. Very good game concept and implementation. Great setting and theme fits Really well. Excellent amount of content/replayability. Gameplay maybe isn't so engaging in itself so something could be improved there. Impressive result nonetheless for a compo!
I did not expect the boss behind the portal to be that strong :D Overall a nice entry. I like the sound design, especially the foot steps when exploring
Although it is not my type of game but I really have fun playing it. I appreciate all the effort gone in this game.
Graphics are really nice.
My strategy to win was go to the cave to find items (specially the magic bomb was very useful in the initial combats). After some grinding level up my character stats in the inn and go to the ruins to earn more money. Finished with attack and defense above 300. The final boss was an easy win!
Awesome compo game on many aspect, great job! I had a lot of fun ✨
The random sometime felt a bit weird, like when I faced 4 enemies with 0HP in a row.
