LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Numerus Maximus by SimplePotential 2022-04-05T17:21:23Z

Very clean and nice-looking game. Could definitely use some more strategy, because currently the only thing you can really do is use lightning immediately and clear out everything adjacent to 23, and the rest is just luck. Also, noticed that 22 doesn't auto-open the 24 tile if it is adjacent. Is that intentional? High score: 284.

Kiwis Can't Fly by DDRKirbyISQ 2022-04-08T01:36:38Z

Very peaceful, calm, nice game. This game has the BEST audio I've seen so far in LD50. Music tracks flow with one another (no abrupt changes), although the clouds don't have a "puff" as I would expect, they still have a nice piano-tune feedback. Also, the graphics look very nice . Everything looks like it was drawn with so much care, and they all have smooth animations; I have no clue how you managed to do this all in 3 days! The "worst" part of this game was the gameplay itself, but it was still fun! As far as I could tell, there was no way to lose. One suggestion, I'd recommend adding a timer at the end to tell how long you managed to keep the kiwi in the air. Then you could try to beat your highscore the next time. Overall, very nice game. Good job!

Royal Astroid Crush by tiffi 2022-04-05T18:00:53Z

Nice 2-minute play-anytime game. Found myself frantically tapping 5 asteroids at once (with 5 fingers  ). I like the graphics for the background, satellites, and explosion particles. The larger asteroids could use a visual indicator to how damaged they are. Didn't count against you, but the app is just called "LD50". You can rename it and add an app icon in the Unity project settings. Still, good job! I'll be keeping this on my phone.

Herdey (VR Only) by shadowbrain 2022-04-10T02:16:00Z

Love seeing a VR game in a jam. I recommend adding some background music. My method was to get down to just one fluffball and then stack flowerpots/jars on it. After that, corner it by the supply building and [attempt to] build it a house. com.ShadowBrainGames.Herdey-20220409-190000.jpg I survived almost exactly 1000 seconds

Thermal Runaway by TeamMonumental 2022-04-09T01:19:17Z

Nice game, Looks very polished! The only thing is it's pretty easy to get lost. Maybe add a map/minimap? I barely found my way out of the maze. I think after the reactor blew up the first time, the timer never continued. I also had trouble right-clicking to put the water things in. Good job, one of the best I've reviewed in LD50!

Warming up! by notnasiul 2022-04-05T18:10:16Z

Love the graphics. Gameplay is pretty good. I think it's probably the way the Pico-8 html5 page works, but it's kinda hard to move without jumping. SFX are good, but it could really use an 8-bit background music track to go with it. One last piece of criticism, I barely saw my score because I was spamming the x button and that is the accept button on the score page. I'd change that to the other button. Good job!

Warming up! by notnasiul 2022-04-05T18:35:29Z

@notnasiul Oh, I forgot to mention I was on mobile. When I played it there was a D-Pad on my screen I could use to move. The only thing about it is that it would jump even if I just touched the left arrow only (without touching up arrow). Wasn't too big a deal though, and the game was still fun.

Grapecheese by jandourek 2022-04-06T16:26:57Z

This game looks like it has great potential! Love the graphics/aesthetics, humor, soundtrack (although the transition between rooms is rather abrupt, maybe fade instead), and joy of throwing flaming exploding cheese wheels. [Edit: found the rat. Just one note: budget is spelled wrong. Otherwise, cool boss-battle, but a little easy for me.] One piece of criticism I had was how easy it is to get lost. Maybe add a minimap? Awesome game you've got there!

Appeasing The Board by Parker8283 2022-04-07T04:32:11Z

Cool game. My antivirus (Norton) flagged the exe as a virus, so I downloaded the source (props to you for releasing it btw). When I did what I thought was moral, I lasted 2 years. When I just did it based on stats I lasted 7 years. Makes you think. Good job!

Procrabstination by sebastianscaini 2022-04-05T20:01:04Z

Feel like you really went for the humor category. Much crab. Such puns. Unless I missed something, this is basically a collection of mini games. The mini games are alright, but not anything spectacular. I like the 3D home place's graphics and sounds, but the computer's graphics could be substantially improved. For the specific mini games... Crab clicker has good difficulty scaling, but is a bit short and has no goal. For Crab Wars, I like the text but I don't want to have to read it every time I die. Also, I don't understand how the score works. Otherwise, decent mini game. I'm not entirely sure if Final Crabstasy is possible to win on Android, as I was tapping as fast as I could and still barely lost. Very glad you ported to Android, as that's the platform I played on. Enjoyed the game.

The Flower of Marasca by F1Krazy 2022-04-08T17:49:54Z

Pretty good. I got the flower, but I'm not sure what I was supposed to do next. I like the graphics style. The music is alright, but a little too "ring-y" for me (idk how else to describe it). I experienced a few collision bugs, but I saw you were working on fixing them. One other thing: I think the movement speed is dependent on the framerate. Sometimes it would seem like I was walking slower or faster than normal. Nice little platformer game.

Collapse by lizelive 2022-04-06T16:35:58Z

The sensitivity was so high it was almost unplayable. I like how all of the walls are physics objects in the main room, but as soon as you pick up the crown you are teleported to the other place. Then there's this strange grappling hook which doesn't seem to actually grapple you, just shoot strings. I soon fell off the "island," but there was no auto-respawn. Looks like the idea is there, you just need to work on the gameplay. Good luck!

Sandwich Drop by Renge 2022-04-08T22:42:08Z

Rather fun game, but the constant spinning of the camera is VERY irritating. The graphics of the cutscenes = MSPaint... The graphics of the game = Semi-photorealistic. Didn't hear any audio (which you opted out of, but I think it would be beneficial). Very humorous. Good job.

Sandwich Drop by Renge 2022-04-08T23:33:55Z

@renge It wasn't the mouse sensitivity per-se. Even with my mouse not moving at all (not even touching it), it would still spin the camera around the character.

Delaying Ludum Dare by Emily Pitcher 2022-04-07T00:51:17Z

At one point, there is a LONG vertical spike-filled place. I'd recommend adding an autosave point somewhere in the middle there. ~~I still haven't been able to get through it.~~ **[Edit: Just got through that part. However, just after it there is a part with a platform that moves up. I think you forgot to set the rigidbody collider to continuous or something, because I keep falling THROUGH the platform. I physically cannot get past this.]** Also, sometimes I got to the choice blocks before the dialogue finished, and I wasn't actually given a choice (because I was stuck on the block). Otherwise, pretty good game.

Evita by goldenXD 2022-04-08T23:40:02Z

I like the different abilities and the sprites. The sword is a little short. Did you intend to package the whole project inside the zip file, because it was a 300MB download. If you wanted to, you could package a version with just the executable and a separate one for the source project.

OSTRO by Totteri 2022-04-07T03:35:56Z

Very nice. Love the Windows 95/98 aesthetic. It's sort of like a treasure hunt. I think what would benefit this game is some thought-based puzzle elements to it. I finished the game, but I'm not quite sure I understood the story. Also, the low-ish resolution and the limit of two windows visible (not open, but visible) at once was a bit annoying. Anyways, I enjoyed the game. Thank you for making this!

Exit by Krzyhau 2022-04-05T16:22:02Z

Uhh... guys, something's wrong with my exit door. Anyways, this is a very *unique* escape room. I'm not sure what would happen if you get to 100% (maybe it locks you in :P). ~~Managed to get 73%, but still going to try to puzzle it out.~~ **[Edit: Got to 100%, see later post]**

I like the graphics/mood combo (graphics by themselves look like they were made in paint, but definitely fits the mood). Seems very eerie. ~~Audio could do with some ambience, as currently it's just the keypad buttons AFAIK (I had to mute halfway thru the game, so idk if there was anything more).~~ **[Edit: Actually, there is some nice ambience! Only problem is the volume is VERY quiet, even at 100% volume!!]** One problem I had was how DARK it is. When the slightest bit of sun shines on my 100% brightness screen, I can't see a thing. Also, I couldn't play the html5 version because I couldn't make it full screen and my monitor size was too small.

Very nice game, Krzyhau, DevDeVice, and Unforg1v3n. Definitely made me use my brain cell.

Exit by Krzyhau 2022-04-08T02:48:32Z

**[POTENTIAL SPOILERS]** Wohoo! I finally beat the game! A few notes about the puzzles themselves. I think this is a bug, but you can trigger the pressure plate with just yourself and two boxes. I didn't find out that you can [redacted] to get even more boxes until I had two more puzzles to go. I was only alerted to it when Vitor Milioni mentioned that the second image gives away one of the puzzles. Secondly, it is fairly easy to brute-force the last puzzle (which I initially did and "won" with 93%). I don't think it is really possible to fix this though. Great job guys, thouroughly enjoyed it!!!!

Pixel-Panic by IdeasPerSecond 2022-04-08T02:03:45Z

Reminds me of one of Dani's games. Nice music, but it looks like you opted out of that category. I don't know what game engine you are using (if one at all) or if it supports it, but please port this to Android. I think it'd work great on that platform. Anyways, it's a good fun game! High score: 33.2 Nanoseconds.

Bitboy by Proxy-Games 2022-04-05T04:37:49Z

WHAT IN THE WORLD THIS GAME IS BIGGER THAN I THOUGHT. 5/5 FOR STORY. To those who don't know... don't quit when there's an error. Just don't. Refresh the page.

Anyways, this is the longest I've spent playing a game jam game yet! Really reminds me of "This is Not a Game". I really wish you could speed up the text, because it's a bit slow. Still playing it. I'll rate it when I finish it. Well... assuming this game isn't infinite. Maybe you've just invented a self-aware AI. In that case...

Anyways, very cool game. High score 11134.

You shall not pass by Senso 2022-04-08T23:32:35Z

Nice game! It was challenging, but didn't seem impossible. Managed to finish in 14:40. Love the little voice lines.

Forest by StudioCherno 2022-04-08T22:29:09Z

It was a fairly good game. I liked the models and the atmosphere. The open world was nice, but it was pretty hard to actually figure out where to go, so I'd recommend adding some signs or stuff, as well as making important things in the world BRIGHTER. The game was very dark, even at 100% brightness on my monitor. Understandable for the second part, but in the first it made it difficult to navigate. In the second part, I think I could've run in a straight line forever, so a little too easy. One physics bug, my head can go through at least one of the floors of the elevated houses (I don't remember which one). Also, the doors opening towards the player was a little annoying. Also, I followed some of the lampposts and fell off the edge of the world and had to restart. Also, it is mainly just my preference, but I did not like the way the gun aimed at all. It felt like jelly almost (except when you are looking down the sight, that is good). A little bit of movement might be okay for animation, but I'd say reduce the amount by 10x, as well as give it a max angle (the gun could spin all the way around if you turned too fast). One more side note: I used the launcher to set the mouse sensitivity to the minimum, and that was pretty good, although I'd recommend adding some even lower settings. With more time, I think this could turn into a great game. Also, yes, I realize this is on a custom engine (I've even seen a few devlog videos about it), but I am solely rating the game, not the engine. Good job, and I hope to see even better things in the future.

Deterioration by Aes1 2022-04-05T03:18:16Z

I cannot do anything except walk around. I've tried walking around all the edges and pressing all the keys. At one point a random key I pressed caused the character to disappear and a zombie to go across the screen. Is there something I'm missing?

Deterioration by Aes1 2022-04-08T01:55:05Z

Alright, thanks to @mike-baldwin for tagging me on this game and explaining the controls. Revisited this game. I understand the game mechanics now, and it is fairly challenging. However, the game is in a bit of a rough state right now. I'm sure this could be turned into a great game given a few more days. Also, I didn't hear any audio. If you don't want to be scored in the audio category, you can opt out of it in the game submission. Also, I think you should add in the missing L key instruction into the description. Also, Markdown tip, if you want a new line instead of text on the same line, add two spaces at the end of the line.

DeathBalls by Elania 2022-04-08T22:48:08Z

The game looks promising, but the controls are rather difficult. I kinda wish you just had to use the left and right arrow keys. I like the graphics, especially since they look 3D and were made during the jam . I realize this would be difficult to port, but I think it would make a good mobile game.

Bloodlust by MaDness 2022-04-05T04:10:33Z

Beautiful graphics. There were a few texture glitches here and there (like the bed showing up in front of the player), but still great. The gameplay is pretty good, but a bit too slow-paced for me. Also, noticed you save the progress of the game. This is a great feature, but I think you should also add an option to reset your progress. Also, I know since this is a game jam there isn't much time (and you opted-out of the category), but sound/music would have made this game much better. Still, a pretty fun game! Good job!

Gladiatorz by supadedupe 2022-04-07T22:51:34Z

Yep. Same as above. Make sure to use GZIP or no compression in the Unity build settings. If that doesn't work, check out the errors in the image below. WebGLErrors.jpg Also, you should probably also include a Windows or Linux build as well, in case the HTML5 one is broken.

StopShot by AugustCoder 2022-04-05T16:52:44Z

Hey @purpoappo, if you played the HTML5 version, did you make sure to go full screen? Also, what is your screen size, ratio, and resolution? Just want to make sure it's not a scaling issue. The other thing, besides the time stop, is that you can hide and peek out of cover. Thanks for the criticism though!

StopShot by AugustCoder 2022-04-05T17:43:42Z

@notnasiul thanks for the tip!

StopShot by AugustCoder 2022-04-05T18:30:35Z

@simplepotential it should be WASD keys. If that doesn't work, try fullscreen. If that still doesn't work, let me know what browser/operating system. You can also try the Windows version if you are able.

Balancing Balls by Tan games 2022-04-08T23:13:40Z

Very nice. There's so much strategy of whether you want to balance multiple balls, or try to inch one of the blue balls off the beam to make it lighter. My only complaint is I feel the torque you apply with the arrow keys is *just* a bit too low. Good job for your first game! Note about scoring: I think you are [technically supposed to opt out of Audio](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules) scoring category since you used 3rd party soundtrack (unless YOU made the audio during the jam). Anyways, keep it up!

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Dark Points by anstabo 2022-10-24T06:35:26Z

Disclaimer: I didn't actually play, but watched the gameplay video :P I remember seeing something like this in a video about a Garry's Mod mod (edit: it's called the LIDAR mod). Love the story/gameplay take though, and the upgrades (especially good choice with the battery upgrade thing, waiting 10 seconds every time you scan would be a nightmare).

The Goose Bureau by Tricky_Fat_Cat 2022-10-04T00:04:32Z

Love the design and the sticky note humor! Kinda reminds me of Portal. I finished the first two levels, but man! Add checkpoints or something. It gets really tedious completing the part that you've done 20 times already just because you got stuck a cone. You also should add a level select, cause I had to close the game and lost all my progress (halfway through lvl 3).

However, it might be later in the story than I played, but I couldn't find the relation to the theme.

A Forgotten Pulse by Retrisma 2022-10-09T00:16:30Z

Nice little game :) Only major issue I had was that the rat (that's what it is, right?) kept clipping through the platforms that move up and down. I feel like the 10 second theme could be used a little better, but I at least recognized it.

Corrupt Dungeon by Reyansh 2022-10-21T19:30:06Z

NOTE: I played the one in the Itch.io link. Nice game. The post processing effects were well done, and really improved the mood of the game. My main complaint is that the sword's hit spot wasn't exactly where I initially thought it was, so it took a while to get used to. The only other thing is I think the arrows/quarrels are a bit fast and hard to dodge, and the enemies tend to get stuck on and/or shoot each other. I only made it to level 2, but a little variation with the enemies / weapons / gameplay would be nice. But overall, good job, I'm sure it'd turn out way better given more time!

The 10 Second Chicken-Plant Curse by Kobato Games 2022-10-09T01:18:41Z

I love the idea, and I think when fleshed out it would be great. Unfortunately it looks like you fell victim to a lack of time. :(

Cat Blaster by Charred Axolotl 2022-10-20T23:54:27Z

I like it, although I think the game is a tad too easy, in my opinion.

Adventures of a Lonely Pixel by AugustCoder 2022-10-15T15:29:02Z

@morepixels @itooh Sorry, I was literally out of time, cause I hoped to add an animation to show it getting hurt, but the blue orb has lots of health (I think it's like 10 or 15). If you keep shooting it, it'll eventually disappear. Thanks for playing though!

Adventures of a Lonely Pixel by AugustCoder 2022-10-20T23:47:16Z

@pascal-fitzner Yeah, I totally agree, and I would have had I had more time. (I wrote a short track for background/bossfight music but then the music making program crashed, so I had to quickly make some background ambiance :( )

LD54 — Limited Space

RAMpage by Blue Pin Studio 2023-10-19T17:14:49Z

Interesting game, nice audio. The only thing that really annoyed me was that the Quit button was *right under* where the Next Round button was, so anytime I double clicked on the Next Round button it quit the game

Nebula Odyssey by AugustCoder 2023-10-03T00:31:40Z

@strato I definitely would have loved to! (I also wish I could have included a storyline / star map and additional hazards). But I did what I could with the time I had. Glad you liked it

Nebula Odyssey by AugustCoder 2023-10-03T01:10:08Z

@edearth The difficulty should ramp up pretty quickly after a couple minutes by spawning more asteroids (and making them more accurate 🤫). I probably could have made the difficulty curve better by playtesting it a bit more and tuning the parameters, but I ran out of time. I'll definitely consider expanding this post-jam, but no promises yet :)

Nebula Odyssey by AugustCoder 2023-10-19T19:11:25Z

Thanks @someone! I agree, it was my first time writing a pathfinding algorithm, and I wrote it near the end of the jam, so it is pretty janky. I also wanted to make it a bit more fluid and add animations, so I'll probably do that post-jam if I end up getting back to this game.
