Very cute concept and I love the colors in this!

Very cute concept and I love the colors in this!
The art style is ADORABLE. I absolutely loved the mood of this game. Very simple but effective!
Angela,
You are my main creative inspiration for making games -- in fact, this was my first Ludum Dare, inspired by your frequent participation in the jam! As always, your gorgeous art, moody atmosphere, and honest writing made for an enjoyable playing experience. Your games take us smack dab into the drama, throwing us into whatever universe you've created, and I love that. I appreciate your constant emphasis on narrative, even when making a platformer. I especially loved the beginning of the game when the player looked into the mirror and saw a completely different version of herself -- that stark contrast in art was powerful.
I came across a couple of bugs, which I'm assuming you already are aware of, but just in case: There were certain times in the game where I would fall off the platform even though I shouldn't have. For example, I would fall off the stairs. There were also a couple platforms where I couldn't jump for some reason -- not sure if that was purposeful. Finally, I'm not sure how to end the game. I'm sure I'm missing some element, but I explored the nightmare platform area and cannot find where to progress. Furthermore, my friend played your game and came across this issue that didn't happen to me; when going through the dialogue, she came across an empty dialogue bubble.
Thank you for all that you do for the game development community.
This game was awesome! I was initially very interested because the premise is surprisingly similar to our game (we also made a narrative point & click game about exploring a room LOL). I love the mood: the art style + nostalgic writing made for an enjoyable playing experience. Super cute!
I second @steventus as well! I think the art is beautiful, but I got stuck at one part of the game and the narrative is a bit confusing.
GORGEOUS music, GORGEOUS art. This feels pretty polished for a LD jam game!
This is a super cute idea! I absolutely loved your interpretation of the theme. The controls felt a bit off at times but it wasn't a huge deal. Great job!
What a fun game idea! I love how you interpreted the theme especially.
I love the idea for your theme! The hilarious premise, art, and funky music = awesome game.
I really enjoy your cover art!
I love the art style and it's decently fun and simple! I think you guys balanced the difficulty of the game perfectly.
The art in this is simply gorgeous. I rated you 5 stars in graphics and mood! My only complaint is I wish there was more story.
@cary-stanley This comment warms my heart so much. Thank you for giving such thoughtful feedback -- your game is awesome too!
@midorimelody @yuukurisu @cieroceramics Thank you guys so much for your comments! Super meaning for for an aspiring game dev like me :)
@verso Aw, thank you so much for this! I played 'To The Moon' a LONG time ago (one of my very first narrative games), so this is super meaningful.
@tamail Thank you! We tried to go for a wholesome gaming experience with an emotional punch.
@groggdew Thank you! Our primary focus was atmosphere so I'm glad you picked up on that. For the music, all credit goes to our composer Lucas (this was his first time ever composing)!
@finntastico Coming from you guys, that means a lot! This was my first time voice acting LOL. Your game was amazing as well :)
@mikadoh You can thank Ray on our team who suggested it! We definitely want our games to be as inclusive as possible.
@steffo Great suggestion! I can see players accidentally choosing before realizing there are choices. About the size of our team, it was definitely difficult to coordinate as the project manager. About half of our programmers have never used Unity (we're all part of the game dev club at college, so that's how we assigned teams). For me, it was dividing the departments and constantly asking what each of them are doing. There were times we had coordination issues, but you have to be on top of your game for organization -- google docs, google drive, meetings, etc.
@jvdwijk Ahhh thank you so much!
@swiftvector I've never voice acted in my entire life -- it was one of those ideas we had the night before the jam ended as we were racking our brains as to how to make the game better. I think it turned out pretty well though, and thank you for the compliments!
@arzi Thanks for this suggestion! Will keep this in mind for my next jam.
@danae Thank you!
@mike09123 That's my goal for making games, so I appreciate this so much. Thank you for playing!
@magic-mike How sweet of you to say. Thank you!
@wtfree Aww thank you! That's how I want my games to feel :)
@alpharock6 Thank you!
@jusw85 @schizoid2k @blobo @valisse21 @redunca Thank you all for your nice comments. I'm so flattered by the feedback to my game, so thank you for taking the time out of your day to play my game!
@meatball Thank you! Our composer Lucas did a great job for jammin' tunes :)
@angela-he Thank you so much for playing my game! Coming from one of my favorite devs, this means a lot.
As for the dialogue engine, I wrote everything through Twine, and we built a parser that took the HTML file and put it through Unity.
I appreciate your compliments! I'm happy you pointed out that the grandpa felt three dimensional to you, and I'm glad you like the art. We wanted the visuals to match the wholesome parts of the story, which is why we went with that style.
Regarding your wishes, I will be taking these in consideration for my next game. I actually started looking into DOTween once the jam ended because I had the same thought as you for improving the visuals, so I'm already on it.
Again, thank you for your nice comments! I look forward to playing your future games :)
@eugenik thanks!
@peace-of-cake-games This is one of the nicest compliments I have gotten in my life -- I just shared this in my dev team discord, and we are all so flattered. Compliments like these make me even more sure that game dev + writing is my passion, so thank you.
To say a bit about myself, game dev has always been an interest of mine given my love for storytelling, but I never thought I'd be capable of making a good game. I tried to make a dev team once but my members stopped showing, joined teams that went no where, got rejected from countless gaming internships. Early in 2020, I started a team at my game dev club and for the first time, I saw progress. All of that was shattered once covid started, and I had to deal with issues way bigger than making video games.
A month ago, I participated in a student-led informal game jam, and I finished my first game in 48 hours. For years, I've been trying to get an opportunity to make a game, for it to be completed in two days. My first thought was of regret, why couldn't I have done this earlier, I could've been so much farther ahead, etc. But I now realize that all of my failures were so my second finished game could be this special.
Maybe I hadn't made the next Life is Strange, but I narrowed down the type of stories I like to tell, I wrote a lot of bad dialogue (improvement, yay!), and I found creative collaborators I love. I played many beautiful games, I got out and saw the world (just so I could write about it), and I grew a deeper understanding of hurt and loss.
This was a literal essay -- just a huge thanks for leaving such a nice comment. I'll play your game sometime tomorrow!
@nefeli Ahh thank you!
@battlerager I haven't noticed that issue so thanks for pointing it out! Might be an issue with the fullscreen mode.
@jlv Wow, what a heartwarming comment -- thank you! I can understand the frustration of wondering whether players will go through a text-based game, especially when people are trying to get through games as fast as possible. I was definitely nervous about the feedback, but I'm glad it's been well-received.
For me, while I play a huge variety of games (Dota 2, Minecraft, etc.), when I think about the games most special to me, it's always narrative-driven ones. I understand that it's a niche genre for Ludum Dare, but I wanted to tackle it anyway.
I am so flattered by your compliments, and I'm super excited to see your creation in LD 48!
@vphyre Thank you!
@peachtreeoath Thank you for the nice compliments! I was definitely worried about the order of the items -- especially since the broken watch is the most emotionally charged, and I didn't have control over when it was picked.
As for the size of my team, we all go to the same college. Half of the members here have never made a game/even opened Unity, which was a challenge as the lead of the project. Delegating tasks was difficult at times cause it was like "Well, hm, you don't particularly know how to do anything with this engine, so what should I assign?" but I think they all learned a lot!
@str0nkyk0ng Ahh thank you! This is so nice to hear, esp coming from you :)
@teto Thank you! I'll keep this in mind for my next game :)
@codertrevor Aw, thank you so much. I really appreciate this!
@ddrkirbyisq Thank you for such thought out comment! When our artist drew the emperor, I burst out laughing -- the bird placement is too good. The complexity of family is a motif in a lot of my creative work, so I'm glad you appreciated that.
@danielblanco3d Aw, thank you! I've never read Blankets before but now it's on my tbr list.
I love the art and the music! Admittedly, the controls were pretty confusing to me, and I had trouble getting through the game.
The voiceover + humor is PHENOMENAL. I legitimately laughed out loud.
The graphics are adorable and the sound effects make a great mood! This game has amazing polish for only a few days.
We really did make a similar game! I definitely enjoyed a deeper narrative game in the mix of Ludum Dare. I loved the concept and the writing was enjoyable. I just wish it were longer!
This game was hilarious! I had a ton of fun playing this. My only complaint is that the text speed is quite slow so you have to wait a bit for the email to load. I loved your interpretation of the theme and very nice nostalgia factor -- high scores for me!
This is legit hilarious. Loved this game!
The art of this game is SO CUTE. Five stars for mood for me! My only complaint is that you have to stand in a very particular area to talk to the people, and sometimes, I had trouble getting the :) to show up. I love the storytelling and you guys should be proud of how polished this is!
The sound effects really make this game! I loved that you play as a cute watermelon. This is really impressive as a solo project!
THE ART IS SOOO CUTEEEE! The controls feel really smooth too!
A really powerful idea and interpretation of the theme -- thanks for making important games! Unfortunately, as others have mentioned, I got stuck at the "Type out stop" screen.
The mood and art of this game are IMMACULATE. I wish there were a bit more mechanics, but overall, lovely atmosphere!
I'm obsessed with the game's aesthetic and the interpretation of the theme. Well done!
I love the mood and art of this game -- also creative approach to the spellbook! Echoing what someone else said, the screen is black for me so unfortunately I had a lot of trouble picking up items. I'm using Chrome and playing on WebGL.
@kingofnova Before you can advance to the right, you must talk to every character/do all the minigames!
@cambosouph You have to complete all of the minigames before you advance to the next train cart -- you most likely have not washed your hands yet!
@gabriel-corbani We're thinking of expanding the game and launching it on Steam -- will let you know if this happens!
@zlc122 Ahh thank you so much -- I'm glad you like it!
@carolyn Thanks for pointing it out to us and for the feedback!
@redsorel Our team appreciates this so much!
@mrchambers Thank you, it means a lot!
@bruno-moraes Thanks for letting us know! We plan on expanding this game and we will take note of this :)
@spluppo Do you mind telling us what in particular was awkward so we can fix this for our next game?
@rawb Thank you so much!
@antaresvaldemar That was the vibe we were going for, so thank you!
@benjamin-l Is the dialogue being cut on the top? Anyway, thank you so much!
@junamai Thank you so much!
@mab-cat Did you wash your hands? That's a task in the second train that a lot of people have been missing. You have to walk backgrounds (before the great grandma) to find the minigame.
@benjamin-l Ah, that's definitely why. Our game is 16:9!
@anaaraujo Aw, thank you! That means a lot :)
@beats Thank you!
@onlyallygrace To clarify about the washing hands minigame, your great grandpa tells you to wash your hands, which is why the minigame does not trigger until after you've spoken to him -- we understand that walking backwards isn't intuitive though, so we're looking into fixing this eventually. I'm super happy you've enjoyed our game and thank you so much!
@dude-the-hero Thank you so much!
@peace-of-cake-games Ahh thank you so much! I'm so happy you enjoyed our game -- it was definitely a bigger project than my last LD game.
@theseusinabottle This is just about the funniest and most heart warming comment ever -- I sent this comment to our team and we pinned it in our Discord because it made us laugh that much! Thank you so much for your feedback. I tend to making more emotional/narrative based games, and I'm happy our game touched you. We also plan on releasing a full length version to make some of the animations smoother/bugs and typos fixed, so watch out for that!
@spluppo Thanks for telling us! We plan on making a full length version, so we will keep this in mind.
@anaxie-studio Aw, thank you so much! We plan on making a more polished version of this game to release on Steam, so I appreciate your constructive comment about the dialogue sounding awkward in the beginning.
@baconeta My heart is so happy reading this! Thank you for giving our game a chance :)
@ladycerberus Thank you!
@katriadoodles Thank you so much! I'm honestly stunned with how much we were able to successfully implement in the 3 days, so I appreciate your comment.
@poweranze Haha perhaps we will add more of his story in the full length version (we plan on releasing a more polished Steam version of our game) -- thank you!
@brielley Thank you :)
@lyxil Thank you so much for your comments -- being Chinese American and also first gen is a huge part of my identity as well, as I'm sure you can tell from the game. We plan on making a full length/more polished version of our game to release on Steam and adding subtitles to the end is definitely something we will do. Stay tuned!
@alina-baybulatova Thank you Alina!
@dezom Thank you so much! Having all the elements work together was a huge focus of our team, so I appreciate you noting that.
@mostel Thank you!
@attala Aw, I'm so happy you shared this experience with your daughter. Thank you!
@asiyeap Thank you!
@thain Thank you so much Thain!
@vaanrile Thank you! You can follow our Twitter sonderingstudio for more updates :)
@dodidouda I appreciate your comments. The artists did a great job!
@doctortm Thank you :)
@pichuscute0 Before you do the bowl puzzle, you see the order of the colors you have to remember. We definitely note though that it can be confusing, so thanks for letting us know!
@nyanpierre @nathalia-hohl @bubbadubc Thanks for the comments guys!
@ezgoodnight What is your twitch channel? I'd love to check you out!
@turtle-games @suika343 @mayzhy Thanks you guys!

@microchasm We plan on fixing the walking animation for our full length version (We plan on polishing some stuff for a Steam release!). Also, you can totally make emotional games if you want to -- I believe!
@rovernoon These are all fixes we plan on addressing in our full length version (We plan on polishing some stuff for a Steam release!). Thanks for your comment!
@adri1703 @katamary @prerak @kontiko Thank you so much for your comments! Our team appreciates them :)

@midnightmist The perfect vibe to play story games! So happy you enjoyed our game.
@mykola We plan on releasing a more polished version of our game on Steam! You can follow sonderingstudios on Twitter for updates :)

@matheus-madtrilhas He's amazing at music, thank you for your comment!
@zeilanda Glad you enjoyed our game!
@sarafilipa Thank you so much Sara. I appreciate the feedback!
@pestodesign The cooking was inspired by my Chinese grandmother, glad you share the same connection!
@doot Thank you :)
@mitsouko Cozy games are my favorite to make and play, so thank you!
@pichuscute0 Thanks for letting us know. We plan on making a full version of our game, so we will look into it!
@villanelle I'm sorry to hear about your mother, but thank you for your kind comments. I'm glad you found comfort in our game!
@waltsontanaka We plan on fixing the walking animation in our full version (we're planning on releasing a more polished version on Steam). Thank you for letting us know!
@szymon-ogd @vsi @darqweful @azakharov Thank you guys!
@sodaro We plan on making a full version of the game, so we may add more puzzles. We're definitely going to fix to walking animation too. I appreciate you letting us know about the similar conversations -- that was actually my biggest writing concern after finishing the script (that the characters blended together too much). Thanks for the in depth feedback!
@zhi @ar-borno Thank you guys (and sorry for making you hungry!) :)
@ithildin Aw, thank you so much! As a Chinese American, food was how I connected with my grandma, and I wanted to capture that for this game.
@dane-tesla I'm so touched that our game gave you an emotional reaction. We plan on releasing a more polished version on Steam, so look out for that!
@strangeryann You can thank our wonderful UI artist for that! Our last puzzle's hit box isn't perfect, and we plan on fixing that in our full version.
@etrealjunior Fixing the animation is something we plan on doing in our full version (We want to submit our game to Steam once we've added more polish). Thank you for your comments!
@feralpoodles Thank you so much, we anticipate the Steam release being out sometime over the summer hopefully!
@daegonz Yep, we're already aware of the hitboxes. Thank you so much for your comments, I'm glad you thought our game is cozy!
@crazyrems @robotex @okamit Thank you so much guys, means a lot!
@cary-stanley We're already aware of these issues and plan on fixing them for our full release (we plan on releasing a more polished version of our game to Steam), but thanks for pointing them out! I also appreciate your kind comments :)
@dzejpi We’re already aware of these issues and plan on fixing them for our full release (we plan on releasing a more polished version of our game to Steam), but thanks for pointing them out! I'm glad you enjoyed our game too :)
@flogames The hitboxes of our last puzzle are imperfect, and we plan on fixing that for our full release (we plan on releasing a more polished version of our game to Steam). A cohesive mood was our biggest goal for this game, so thank you for noticing!
@666savior We plan on making a more polished version of our game to release on Steam (@sonderingstudio on Twitter for updates)! Thank you so much for your nice compliments :)
@ddrkirbyisq Thank you for your comments! We definitely plan on fixing the title screen UI for our full version. Totally understand you coming from a different POV about loss-- we all grieve differently! And yes, I made Anything For You last LD jam, but only 2 of us from that game made A Taste of the Past. This is mostly a whole new team!
@ynneblack Thank you for noticing that line! There are certain lines that stand out to me while writing, so I'm happy you picked that up. I appreciate your kind comments :)
@saoi-games Aw, thank you so much. Honestly, one of my main concerns was that that the relatives blended too much, so I appreciate you dispeling that insecurity. We plan on looking into the mouse/keyboard combination for our full version (We plan on making a more polished version for Steam).
Again, thank you!
@dagostino-audio @wilsk Thank you so much!
@bonsai For some reason, changing tabs has been causing errors in our game. Thanks for letting us know!
@euler-moises Even though this story is about a mom, I based my writing off my grandma -- I'm happy the recipes have been passed down to your aunt and mother! Thanks for your nice comments :)
@lazyalarm Aw, thank you!
@neontropics We can definitely consider the sound with the dialogue for our full version, as we plan to release a more polished version on Steam. Thank you for the suggestion!
@ivan-nosov Thank you so much <3
@yurikun Thank you!
The music and color palettte are awesome! I could be bad at playing games but I can't seem to get pass the first boss without dying.
I got ending 2! The music has a creepy vibe to it (in a good way) and the writing is nice, which adds to a nice atmosphere.
Hey, I can't move at all from the start of the game. Maybe check your input?
For some reason, it works now -- I'll go ahead and play your game now!
I'm back with comments (Had to wait a day to leave them because I hadn't submitted my game yet lol). I really like the topic you chose -- I personally prefer deep narrative games, so this really touched on that. The concept is really nice!
@3lstmsinatrenchcoat Yup, we've just been made aware of this issue. I've added a note about talking to all the characters before picking up any items.
@uboretsky Ahh sorry to hear about the bugs! Thanks for pointing them out.
@peace-of-cake-games I know this is pretty different from my usual LD game, but our team wanted to try something silly and not be so serious about making a polished game (in past LDs, we'd stay up every single night). My team is actually making a new game, and it'll be a heartfelt narrative game, so lookout for that!
