The main character looks nice! I like the Ui elements and colors. Great Game! You shold add music maby there is but I dint find or here It

dean-isseyegh 2022-04-05 12:33

Cute fun little game, great job making this in such a short time! Loved the whole feel of the game and being in the middle of the ocean as a robot.

deylinia 2022-04-05 12:34

I beat it! I liked this a lot, the mechanic was really interesting with being able to divert power from running or jumping.

This could turn into a really cool full platformer with that mechanic if you decide to continue developing

althasor 2022-04-05 12:44

I just liked the vibe a lot.

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-05 12:55

@lolopupka Thank you! "You shold add music maby there is but I dint find or here It" - the audio is disabled by default on Unity Play it appears. It must be enabled. As stated in the game over screen, the music is NOT mine. One of the many, many things I had planned to do but had to cut from the scope.

@dean-isseyegh Thank you - really appreciate the feedback!

@deylinia Thank you! I had to cut the scope a lot so I never got to really play around with the power management. Your feedback inspired me to keep tinkering with this. Thank you!

@althasor Thank you!!

martinek 2022-04-05 15:29

Fun platformer. Controlls were nice and responsive.

wouter52 2022-04-05 18:17

I know a game is good when I want to finish it. Your game was great for that matter! It is easy to learn, hard to master. I love how you took a real-world problem and turn it into a game. The end was just hilarious, I was lauging out loud :')

Sometimes the spacebar would not register, but that is alright, the levels where short and sweet so it didn't really matter for me. Also, I had one platform in the third level that was jumping all over the place, was that on purpose? It was challenging to jump on that one :-)

I was mesmerized by the water graphics btw

P.s. I forgot about the power distibution, the game is beatable without changing the default settings

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-05 18:48

@wouter52 Thank you so much for all your great(!) feedback! >Sometimes the spacebar would not register. Thank you! The code is horrible, so I will rejoice at the fact that it DID register sometimes then.

>Also, I had one platform in the third level that was jumping all over the place, was that on purpose? It was challenging to jump on that one :-) That was in fact on purpose. Started out as a mistake, but realized it was a fun challenge.

>P.s. I forgot about the power distibution, the game is beatable without changing the default settings Yeah, I cut the scope, and then cut it some more. And then some more. So I never got around to making levels that required the use of that.

lichead-studio 2022-04-05 19:38

The game feels great because of it's mood and graphics style. I like the idea and it is well done.

hexyvexy 2022-04-05 20:30

Aha, I also had "Planned Obsolesence" on our ideas list but we didn't end up going with it as much for our little robot. Good work!

2022-04-05 20:44

Seems like a buggy mess, there might have been some feature planned with what the cubes should do? Otherwise the concept was confusing and generally really boring with a distinct lag of colors story element and sounds.

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-05 20:59

"@Anonymous" Every word you wrote is true, especially the buggy mess part. Thank you!

@hexyvexy Great minds etc

@lichead-studio Thank you - much appreciated!

sleepygrin 2022-04-05 21:42

confusing platformer, but very nice and relaxing mood!

dennis-magnusson 2022-04-05 21:57

I had a decent time. The difficulty was reasonable for a game jam game. I liked the twist at the end. It would have been more interesting if the power output mechanic was used for something. Also the fact that you changed the name because it didn't look nice on a title screen is very relatable :)

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-06 05:59

@sleepygrin Thank you! It confused me as well. I don't even like platformers.

@dennis-magnusson Thank you, and definitely agree on your feedback about the power distribution mechanic - I simply had to cut that from the scope.

lisyarus 2022-04-06 08:46

Unfortunately, I couldn't play the game: loading stops at 90% and doesn't progress any further.

gm637official 2022-04-06 08:50

Great Game! Had a lot of fun with this. Nice art and ui btw

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-06 09:10

@lisyarus Thank you for reporting that! I got that issue once as well. Something wrong on the Unity Play site I think. I opened in a new browser and then it worked fine.

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-06 09:11

@gm637official That's great to hear - thank you!

lisyarus 2022-04-06 10:22

@fredrik-rosell I've tried restarting the browser (chrome), tried opening an incognito window, and even tried a different browser (firefox), but it keeps staying at 90% :(

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-06 10:28

@lisyarus Thank you for trying (and great(!) game btw!)

nikolavuk 2022-04-06 10:46

On the first level I didn't quite get why would you put controls of speed and jump when you can always use the best settings. Then on the level 2 I realized the quite clever mechanic. Really nice entry, but my only problem with it are disappearing platforms, sometimes platforms at front disappear before platforms at the back, is that supposed to happen?

lisyarus 2022-04-06 10:54

@fredrik-rosell I finally figured it out, I had VPN turned on, and without it the game loaded fine! Loved the character, very nice model and animations. The controls feel nice as well, although a jumping and walking sound could improve the feel. Nice idea with underwater platforms, but trying to spot them through water isn't that fun (and definitely a nightmare for color blind people!), maybe there should be some other way to indicate their position? I didn't really see the point of controlling energy distribution, managed to finish the game without using it at all. Nice water rendering, although there were a few glitches here: some looked like overlapping water polygons, some looked like improper normal texture boundaries (as if it's sampling mode wasn't set to REPEAT or smth like that).

Anyways, lovely jam entry, great job!

2022-04-06-134727_1920x1080_scrot.png

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-06 11:31

@nikolavuk Thank you for your feedback! Yes, the sinking/disappearing platforms have some randomness to them to add a bit more of a challenge. Note that you can still step on them even below the water surface - it's basically getting your head under water that kills you.

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-06 11:35

@lisyarus Wow - thank you for the very well thought out comments. "trying to spot them through water isn’t that fun" - agreed. I wanted it to be an additional chanllenge, but I should have tweaked that a bit, e.g. maybe makign the water more transparent.

"I didn’t really see the point of controlling energy distribution, managed to finish the game without using it at all". Correct, I added the system for it, but never got around to building levels that actually required you to use it...poor time management.

Thank you again!

skruffye 2022-04-06 11:39

I didn't really find that the reduced battery power affected me at all, but that's maybe because I was playing as if I was going to get scored for my completion time...!

On that note, weirdly, I could see a longer version of this sort of game getting a bit of attention from people who enjoy speedrunning because of the chaotic but repeatable physics interactions.

Even though it didn't affect me in-game, I enjoyed the planned obsolescence theme. The updates at the beginning of each level made me chuckle.

Nice work!

yossha 2022-04-06 13:32

The robot has a simple yet very cute and attractive design. About the third stage, the board was out of control and it was difficult to get on top of it. I laughed a little. I enjoyed it very much!

justagamedev 2022-04-06 15:17

Pretty cool game man! The music fits perfectly although i couldn't realize what the inevitable actually is. Additionally, the graphics look beautiful. Note that UnityPlay didn't work flawlessly as i couldn't quit the game normally.

ocwal 2022-04-06 16:30

I loved your steaming pile of dung. The narrative was so heartbreaking, nice graphics, cute robot, awesome tunes. The ending was just :sob: :sob: :sob: Touched my heart so congrats on a well built game!

bottled-up-dark-peace 2022-04-06 17:11

Looks like people have been able to play it. For me it freezes at 90% loading screen.

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-06 17:35

@bottled-up-dark-peace Another commenter that had the same issue mentioned that "I finally figured it out, I had VPN turned on, and without it the game loaded fine!"

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-06 17:36

@ocwal "I loved your steaming pile of dung"

Well, that's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me :)

Thank you for your comments!

bottled-up-dark-peace 2022-04-06 17:37

@fredrik-rosell I don't have a VPN T_T

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-06 17:40

@justagamedev "although i couldn’t realize what the inevitable actually is" Very valid question. That there was no way to escape the planned obsolescence was the inevitable part, even after "winning". Thank you for your nice feedback!

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-06 17:48

@yossha Thank you for that nice feedback! "About the third stage, the board was out of control and it was difficult to get on top of it" Well, it's a good thing then that you didn't get to play the level where I made alomost all the platforms like that :)

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-06 17:58

@skruffye Thank you for your great feedback!

"I didn’t really find that the reduced battery power affected me at all, but that’s maybe because I was playing as if I was going to get scored for my completion time"

Yeah, I didn't get to that part...cut scope, cut scope.....cut some more.

ocwal 2022-04-06 19:17

ds-nahogara 2022-04-06 19:22

Fun little platformer! I liked a lot the graphics, sound would have been great with this environment, the platforming is in point too, feedback from when a cube would pop up from water could be helpful, great work! :v:

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-06 19:52

@ds-nahogara Thank you! Note that the sound appears to be disabled by default(?) in Unity Play so it has to be enabled at the bottom of the play window.

blizzsuxx 2022-04-07 09:49

I like the graphics, and the concept behind the "shifting power" is very interesting. however, the mechanic is not used at all during this game, you can beat the game by just jumping and running at max power.

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-07 11:34

@blizzsuxx Thank you! Yeah, I didn’t get to that part…cut scope, cut scope…..cut some more.

sodoj 2022-04-07 13:57

Hey, congrats on completing your first jam game! You did a very decent job with implemented mechanics and the general feel of the game. As Bluzzsuxx has noted, implemented mechanics don't really work off of each other, but that's one more reason to continue working on this game even after the jam ends. It might lead to something incredible!

zachsbutt 2022-04-07 15:38

good job! i thought this was simple platformer executed well. i suppose i could say that during those "now updating" dialogues the platforms would still lower, so your first time through a level would be a little harder. oh and the power distribution feature was interesting, but i didn't find myself using it very much.

and this is prolly my fault but i didn't know there was sound at first because it's muted by default haha.

anyways solid entry! 👍

weewsa 2022-04-07 15:52

The game is very addictive. But it is too difficult for me.

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-07 20:32

@sodoj Thank you for your kind words!

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-07 20:39

@zachsbutt Thank you!

> i could say that during those “now updating” dialogues the platforms would still lower, That's a darn good idea. I should change that.

And regarding power distribution, true!

...aaaaand regarding the audio, yeah it appears to work like that in Unity Play. A lot of people have mentioned that. Using Unity Play was probably not my best idea...

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-07 20:40

@weewsa I'm rather glad to hear that - too easy would be worse. Thank you!

tominertv 2022-04-08 11:40

Great!

domin77 2022-04-08 16:35

Amazing game, really liked to play it. At first loading stops at 90% on the chrome, but on the firefox it works fine. I really like the graphics and gameplay overall, at first I didnt see some blocks under the water I dont know if it should be like that but after I figured out I can jump on them even when they under the water I finished the game . Well made, good job.

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-08 20:20

@tominertv Thank you!

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-08 20:21

@domin77 That's great to hear - thank you!

itskdog 2022-04-08 23:10

Nice jump with the 3d platformer.

codebug 2022-04-08 23:26

Nice little game with good visuals and character control. The interesting variation of the platforms came as a nice surprise.

It wasn't always possible to see submerged blocks that you needed to jump too. This meant that initially it didn't seem possible to get across certain gaps.

All in all, a fun game. Well done!

panic 2022-04-08 23:47

Well done, I love the looks of the robot and its animations!

janniz 2022-04-08 23:57

Really cool idea! I like the design, it looks very clean and the animation is so cute. Maybe you could at a bigger variety of elements to jump on but still, good job and congrats on your first game jam!

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-09 08:50

@itskdog Thank you!

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-09 11:26

@codebug Thank you, and valid feedback. I wanted the submerged blocks to be part of the challenge bit I should tweak that. Cheers!

skleembof 2022-04-09 20:55

I agree that the submerged blocks are too hard to see. I love the idea though, very unique but I feel like the level design didn't let me explore the mechanics enough. I wanted to really experiment with the power management but I found it wasn't that big of a factor in the platforming.

shortcreative 2022-04-10 15:43

Hey, nice platformer! I liked the flavor text about the intentional nerfing through over the air updates and what happens when you finally get to the island. It was also impressive how some of the platforms gradually sink into the water, but you can still jump on them if they're close enough to the surface.

hungrycatgames 2022-04-10 23:29

Nice game. Very fun to play, difficult enough to need a few attempts but easy enough to win. Great mechanics, controls, pacing, etc. Well done!

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-11 12:46

@hungrycatgames Thank you!

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-11 12:46

@shortcreative Thank you for that great feedback - appreciate it!

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-11 12:48

@skleembof Thank you - such feedback makes me very inspired to keep tinkering with this! Cheers!

kuggenhoffen 2022-04-12 14:36

Overall nice mechanics and look for the game. I have to admit I did not realise the power distribution mechanic before finishing the game, perhaps there could be more difficult parts where using that mechanic is required. Good job!

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-12 16:15

Thank you @kuggenhoffen! Yes, I never got around to making the power mechanic a vital/useful addition to the game.

proxy-games 2022-04-14 05:52

Decent game, overall. The platforming works well, and the battery acts a good timer to force the player to move forward. I'm sort of confused on the power mechanic as I never ended up using it during my playthrough, so I have no idea what functionality that may or may not have had. The graphics aren't anything spectacular, but they do a good job at keeping gameplay generally clear and readable-though it was hard to see underwater at times. The music is also decent and unobtrusive. Nice job.

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-14 08:58

Thank you @proxy-games!

shrillwhip 2022-04-16 19:08

This looks great, really love the aesthetic. The Crash Bandicoot style 2D platforming is fun, not a lot of variety but that's expected for a jam like this. Good job!

dreamerflow 2022-04-20 11:39

Nice game! the character is funny, nice use of the theme, maybe need a jump sound effect, can't last to much but enjoy it, well done bro!
