Really nice graphics, but my GPU sounds like a helicopter when running the game :). The music is good but it doesn't seems to be fitting the game quite well.

mythalore 2021-10-05 22:39

Lovely graphics, controls are really tricky but nice work and all the best. :)

bastienre4 2021-10-05 22:45

Awesome graphics and the music is nice. Controls are bit tough however :) Good job!

potkirland 2021-10-05 22:46

CTRL to crouch and SPACE to both jump and vault or at least F to vault pls  other than that its a nice game!

g5-leonardo 2021-10-05 22:48

The story and the idea behind the game is good. Needs more polish and feedback on the jump mechanics and it could be a good game for a jam

quoc 2021-10-05 22:52

@all Thanks for your feedback!

2021-10-05 22:54

Nice graphics, lasers especially. Like @mythalore said controls are a bit tricky. Implementing parkour mechanics is not easy though, kudos for that.

I could not get the audio to play for some reason.

Great prototype!

thedude3600 2021-10-05 22:59

Nice 3d platformer. Controls felt a little unresponsive at times and vaulting kills all momentum you built up and kind of breaks the flow when running. Graphics look great!

pondo 2021-10-05 23:01

the set pieces, the graphical fidelity offered through unreal engine, the theming all feels very cohesive and make for a strong aesthetic. i also like the general direction of the gameplay, i think it's got heaps of potential (i really enjoyed getting up to speed and getting to grips with how to best navigate levels!)

there's two major sticking points for me though i think, and that's the current design and the font choice.

i'll talk about font choice since that's the shortest of the two, but basically the font chosen for the pyramid environment is really not good. this is both because it's really difficult to read, and it's actually a huge accessibility problem. i get that it looks neat with the aesthetic, but to me it's far more important to ensure that your text is as legible as possible to as many people as possible.

as for the design, this is a bit harder to pin down. i think some of my issues may boil down to certain mechanics needing further refinement to feel more consistent to play with, but other things such as the player camera height when sliding, level design tricking you into doing something that will end your run, the lighting being so dim in areas that it became hard to read the level, and some other stuff lead to make the game feel more frustrating instead of fair.

again, i do want to reiterate that i think you've got something really interesting going on here! with further refinement to the mechanics to make them feel more consistent and more playtesting and iterations on the level design, there's really quite a lot of depth for you to explore and base a really fun game off of!

thegamerasd 2021-10-05 23:31

Cool game, I like the idea and the gameplay is fun!

rashcan 2021-10-05 23:36

Great job! The presentation, level design, visuals, and audio are really solid. The controls were a little complicated but I appreciate that you included a tutorial at the beginning.

However, assuming that the game takes 5 minutes to complete, I think having lasers kill you and send you back through the tutorial section is a bit rough.

I also managed to fall through the world when time-rifting, so I think I'll come back to this game later. But this is really cool for a game made in three days!

turquoise-moon 2021-10-06 00:04

This is really cool. I like the idea of time shifts. I also fell through the world after the second shift. It also happened if I fell in the hole right before the shift. When I respawned there was no floor. Capture2.PNG

keichits 2021-10-06 04:27

Very good graphics =). I like the unstable theme exploration in your game. Congrats!

elektroney 2021-10-06 14:29

I don’t normally like puzzle games, but this game had so many levels that felt like there were so many different ways to solve it. Really fun and creative.

toxiccomputer 2021-10-06 17:21

This game has excellent graphics and the concept is really innovative. I do agree that the movement could use some working on, but that does not mean it was not really fun. I had a great time with this one, but I feel like once you guys polish it more, it will be even better. Cheers!

vitor-milioni 2021-10-06 20:46

Really cool game, very well done, feels nice to play, the level design is fun, and the time jumps are actually a cool mechanic, wish you would have explored more the idea of time jumping like mid slide or something, i felt like i could really just choose if i wanted to do it in the past or future. Also think everything could be just a tiny bit faster, running felt very slow. Overall an amazing game, even more so for being done in 72h, simply incredible, congrats!

t-r-e-f-e-t-h-e-n 2021-10-07 00:29

I think that the concept has potential, but the polish needed to pull it off just was not there. Focus on making your world fun to move around in first, and then get around to things like music, graphics, advanced mechanics and the like. Valiant effort, keep practicing, I want to see you get better!

theheheo 2021-10-08 08:45

Really cool game, I loved the music and the overall mood of the game. It was really cool to switch between the different time eras. Sadly I got stuck in a part where if you switch back and forth the time eras you fall down into a room that you cant get out of and have to restart. The climbing could have been a little bit faster or give a bit more feedback I think to know when you can climb. Other that that I really liked the game ! Good job!

ausstein 2021-10-08 12:10

Volume sliders don't work :(

Also I would have loved a checkpoint system, it got really frustrating to always start from the beginning. And I agree with previous commenters that everything needs a little bit more polish. Next time maybe scale a little bit smaller with the project but actually have it well polished.

That being said the graphics and audio were really good! There would have been a lot of potential for this game!

v174m1n 2021-10-08 12:37

nice design. movement felt abit cluncky... adding some checkpoints could improve the experience...

intodarkness 2021-10-08 13:16

Amazing graphics , run very well on my computer i LOVE the sand and the pyramid ( where can i get it ? ) . The UI is very nice too . Amazing Work :a: :v:

darthboseiju 2021-10-08 13:19

Cool game! Time swap mechanic is great - I really like the snapping between worlds. The main difficulty I had was with mantling - I couldn't quite tell when it was triggering so I had to try a couple of jumps several times whilst i tried to get that down.

Excellent work for 3 days - I'm very jealous of your desert. I wanted one but ran out of time!

kristoph 2021-10-08 13:25

It's sad that the music stops early, and that the luminosity is too dark. I clipped through the walls too many times. But I liked the gameplay and the level design.

quoc 2021-10-08 13:43

@v174m1n That's true Checkpoints could improve the game experience. We didn't realize that it is kinda hard to play the game if you died. We will think about it next time

@intodarkness We created the pyramid on ourself.

@kristoph We had some difficults with lighting building. It was looking greate but somehow it didn't work properly on the exported version :/

intodarkness 2021-10-08 13:49

Well Great job i really love the pyramid :)

figueroass27 2021-10-08 15:28

I think the concept is pretty good and i like the environmental graphics. The movement is pretty crisp as well. I think the font choice for the menus is pretty bad though and i dont really like the arm models. The fov also seem to be doing wonky stuff when i slide down slopes.

quoc 2021-10-08 15:41

@figueroass27 Thanks for your feedback. We'll take that next time into consideration

kamuniaft 2021-10-08 16:12

My grandfather warned me - "never toy with the time machine, kid", and thats what happened - one wrong time swap - and i'm falling into the endless nothing forever :) Character controls could use some improvements. But anyway - I liked the "Time Rift" game - cool concept and graphics, great jam work!

robbietaco 2021-10-08 18:25

Graphics were great! Controls felt good, I wish you could move a little quicker maybe. Good entry!

saurabhsikka 2021-10-08 18:30

Awesome game! Good work chaps!

wizard 2021-10-08 19:09

Really nice game, overall well made, had a few clipping issues when using the time travel mechanic but other than that didn't have any issues. Only thing I would say might need improving upon would be that the controls felt a little floaty. Other than that this was a really good game.

thepiratenun 2021-10-08 20:27

Really cool game! Love the concept, and the art looks really nice! I unfortunately wasn't able to experience as much of the story and the level as I would've liked because I was spending a lot of time on some of the platforming sections. This was also tough because of the lack of checkpoints. But I really liked the effects and the music was nice! Well done!

shea-kelly 2021-10-08 21:10

how did you get something to look this good in a couple days?!?

quoc 2021-10-08 21:13

@shea-kelly We have great designers in our team :)

elmismopancho 2021-10-08 21:18

Fantastics graphics and cool concept. Had a few bugs though. The first time I started below the ground, had to restart and wait for the intro to finish. Happened a few times after I died. Also, having to restart from the beginning gets annoying after a few deaths.

flogames 2021-10-08 21:40

Great graphics and music, but I'm not good at these type of games, I rarely make it past the first deadly pit :D

quoc 2021-10-08 22:20

@elmismopancho sorry to hear that. Somehow the bug only appears in the exported version.. And yeah next time if we make such a game, we'll make sure to add checkpoints. Thanks for your feedback :)

@flogames I hope that you at least had fun :p

oillen 2021-10-08 22:40

(+) nice grafics

(+) time travel mechanic, allowing you to switch between "worlds", that can be used to overcome obstacles

(+) meaningful & intelligent made leveldesign

(+) each timeperiod has it's on music theme

(+) swingin arms while running, a nice detail

(-) there could be soundeffects for footsteps & jumps

notke 2021-10-08 22:45

Am I the only person who doesn't understand the game? The moment I start running, the ground disappears and I just fall down forever. Also, you have one deadly sin of video game design: unskippable intros! :D

quoc 2021-10-09 00:31

@notke Yeah we know about that. Unfortunately we hadn't enough time to make some checkpoints :/ The goal of the game is to get into the Pyramid and find the time machine :D

quoc 2021-10-09 00:33

@notke yup we totally forgot about that and then we hadn't enough time :( but next time we'll have this in mind. Thanks for your feedback!

proxy-games 2021-10-09 02:04

I really love the ambition on this one, and some aspects of the project really shine in this game jam. The graphics are astonishing and music is pretty good. Unfortunately, I feel like this game suffered quite a bit from the time constraints. Some aspects of the movement work wonderfully (I am impressed with how smoothly vaulting is), and I love the first person camera and arm animations. However, the movement feels "off", and I find myself struggling to do precise platforming since it feels like the character sometimes just launches itself.

This game does seem to suffer from the same problem that games like *Mirror's Edge* and *Dying Light* do, in which some players really struggle with first person platforming due to the lack of depth perception from being on one screen. In addition to that, the game really hurts from a lack of polish. I appreciate the settings menu, but I noticed that the music and sound sliders don't seem to work. I noticed that a lot of the level didn't seem to be fitted together properly, and that there was a lot of places the player could peek into places they weren't supposed to.

Screenshot (20).png Screenshot (21).png

There was also another critical issue in the game where the future and past levels don't seem to match up perfectly, and the player can accidently teleport themselves out of bounds as a result, forcing them to restart. The main one I noticed was right after the initial tutorial for how to time warp, and I included two images of the hallway in question. Since the future hallway is wider, if the player stands on the far side of the hallway in the future and time warps to the past, they'll be knocked out of bounds and fall into the void.

Screenshot (19).png Screenshot (22).png

It's a shame because I love the idea of this game (It feels very similar to the level in Titanfall 2 where the player can switch between the future and the past to traverse) and can see the potential of the game and the work that went into it. It really feels like it just needed a few more days of work on it to really shine. As someone who's a fan of first person parkour-like games, I would really love to see an updated version of this game, cause this game is a *lot* of fun. I appreciate the hard work and the ambition of your team here.

samuel-hollywood-summers 2021-10-09 06:45

Great mechanic idea with the time shift, and ambitious and complex control system for the time you had to develop the game. The movement mechanics are all introduced too quickly though, and feel awkward, making me pretty terrible at the game. Because of this, I realised the music does not loop if you don't get to the next cue trigger quickly enough. I would make sure that the level design was much easier, with new controls and movement types introduced and reinforced slowly, one at a time, rather than being introduced to all at once without time to get used to them. A great jam game difficulty level should feel super easy to the devs, who are playing the game over and over as they develop. You want other players to get through to the end of your game without too much difficulty. I couldn't, unfortunately.

The mood was great, and the music felt appropriate to the different settings, reinforcing the difference in time period. Many sfx did feel missing, though. It would be worth trying to have a sound for every possible action and interaction. Think about the JUICE.

Finally, I'd love to see on your game page who did what, and what (if any) existing assets or tools you used. It is hard to rate art and sound without knowing if you made it or used assets.

Thanks for sharing!

quoc 2021-10-09 07:08

@proxy-games Thanks for your feedback! Sorry to hear that you had some issues with our game.

@samuel-hollywood-summers Except for the fonts and for some textures, which we got from the Engine itself, everything in this game (sounds, models, etc.) is made during the game jam by us. That's why we opted in the sections Audio and Graphics.

I'll can add a section about who was Designer, Sound maker, Level Design, etc. Thanks for you feedback!

quoc 2021-10-09 08:09

@samuel-hollywood-summers I added a "Our Work" and "Tools" section :)

2021-10-09 12:43

Graphics are AMAZING! Really liked the mechanics and gameplay. Its fluent and doesn't get boring.

truedat 2021-10-09 14:28

this is crazy developed in this short time. Well well done! :)

ozfolo 2021-10-09 17:05

Great game I'm amazed it was possible to make this within 3 days well done

squimmy 2021-10-10 05:35

This game was really visually striking! The lighting, geometry and effects all looked really interesting!

The design of the game was also interesting, but unfortunately I felt like each individual element of the game was working against all the other elements and it made a lot of things frustrating or counter-intuitive.

For example, the game starts off with a timer counting down and tells you you can sprint and vault, so everything lead me to expect a fast-paced _Mirror's Edge_-style experience! But the level design was cramped and enclosed and full of instant-kill traps that made it suicidal to charge ahead at full speed. And instead of respawning me close to where I died, ready to get back into the action, dying sent me back to the start of the game!

The time-traveling ability was very interesting, but felt a bit like an afterthought. There's no explanation for why you can control it (or, earlier, why you _can't_ control it) and there are only a couple of puzzles to be solved with it. I also think the time-travel system needed a bit more testing and debugging. Given the time constraints of the jam, something else would have had to have been sacrificed, but I found it buggy enough to detract from the experience.

All-in-all, there were some neat ideas presented with a lot of visual polish, but there wasn't much sense of cohesion to the game, as if it wasn't really sure about what it wanted to be.

A couple of examples of level-design that made me feel the game encouraged a cautious approach: - the spikes in the first spike-pit aren't visible until you're already in the pit, and even then only if you look down - although you can see the lasers before they kill you, there's no indication that they're an instant game over. (maybe they just activate something mechanism when they hit you!) In fact, since you don't have the time-jump ability yet, the time-jump-recharge bar looks just like an HP bar, so it seems reasonable to expect the lasers just knock off some HP.

Some bugs I encountered using the time-travel ability: - one time, the chromatic aberration and double-vision effect became more severe each time I used it, until it was almost impossible to see anything at all. - a couple of times, I ended up outside the level geometry with no way back in, and had to restart the game - If just go back out of the entrance to the spike room with the closing-in walls, you can still use the time-travel ability but the rooms are all blank and untextured

jpatchz 2021-10-10 05:54

A bit hard to play, but overall it's a good game.

brandondev 2021-10-11 00:31

Cool idea for a game jumping between times! I liked the graphics and the jumps between times. I would have made jumping and vaulting the same button though. I found myself pressing the wrong one sometimes and missing a platform. At one point when using the time travel mechanic It spawned me outside the map falling. It's a cool game congrats on your entry!

ks-zealot 2021-10-11 12:28

For some reason could not climb on cube after second rift

quoc 2021-10-11 18:00

@ks-zealot Sorryto hear that. I hope you still enjoyed our game :)

ks-zealot 2021-10-11 18:05

(@quoc yes, its great

2021-10-13 11:21

Very nice graphics! I included it in my Ludum Dare 49 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/NQWyoBxprX0

binaryprinciple 2021-10-14 01:24

Presentation is top notch. I haven't played runners so far in this LD, so nice idea that helps to stand out. Initially the controls felt too distant but then I got used to and start to enjoy the game, reminds me of mirror's edge, with an original aesthetic and location. Great job!

guitarbro 2021-10-14 03:03

Really nice presentation and slick glitch effect on the text. The models were a bit plain, but with the lighting things were fairly aesthetically pleasing. The music shifting with the time warp was a nice touch as well. The controls I found to be a bit on the "jank" side as the vault button felt sluggish and I was never sure if it actually grabbed or if I would fall. It also seemed like I'd catch the bottom of the collision on ledges when jumping over, so a bit of tuning the jumps would help polish that up (understandably, you guys probably didn't have a lot of time for that during the jam). Additionally, it was a bit awkward having the time pressure of the countdown clock and long straight sections to sprint full-speed down followed by precision platforming. Personally I think the fast-paced stuff outshines the platforming and I'd just nix it entirely to keep up the pace. Overall a pretty nice entry though!
