muriel 2022-04-04 21:26

Amazing art, good sound effects, great gameplay I would pay for this game if it was for Oculus Quest.

Thanks for this entry I really enjoyed playing it.

pickens-inc 2022-04-05 10:19

Thanks a lot @muriel! I have definitely been thinking a lot about trying a VR version, certainly something I'll investigate. Much appreciated and thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed.

andidebob 2022-04-05 10:38

God this game is pretty :D The gameplay is fun, but the timing takes some getting used to. Overall a nice idea with a very nice looking implementation. Well done!

I love score-attack games, and once again you have created an addictive one! I totally agree with "muriel", this would be phenomenal as a VR title.

The graphics are outstanding and the music is top notch!

Try to beat my score below :D

Wow, this game is really cool. I love the graphics, and the sound design on the ball is just perfect. The core mechanic works really well, as it's a very sensible twist on tennis, and the difficulty of actually hitting the ball is pretty substantial so it is fun to keep retrying.

I only managed to score 3,337 so far. I usually lose at around the 1500 mark, as the speed of the volleys starts increasing. I think the increasing volley speed is a good mechanic, because, along with hitting the ball at an enemy, it means the rhythm is constantly changing--so you can't just get into a rhythm, you have to constantly be on your toes.

I was confused because for a while my high score was supposedly ~2000 even though I had never gotten above ~1500. That's when I realized that pressing buttons while on the title screen increases your score. That seems unintended, lol.

I did try playing with a controller and it is really fun. The one complaint I have, both with the gamepad controls and the regular controls, is restarting--you have to push the button twice, which I think is kind of annoying. Also, with the controller, I think it would be fun to be able to restart with the shoulder buttons, as then I would only need to use those two buttons to play (which seems like a very fun control scheme).

Overall though this is a really nice game (best one I've played so far!), just fantastic execution on a simple and extremely good concept.

Thank you for being the first to play, @muriel! Absolutely, we've had a couple people recommend trying to port it for VR, and I think it might be a fun time to try some VR development. Cheers!

@andidebob thank you for playing! Yep, it definitely takes some getting used to and can be awkward at times. The artist definitely knocked it out of the park!

@simon-rahnasto Thank you as always for trying my jam game Simon! Absolutely had a blast making the game and so far it seems like you hold the LD high score!

@honey-pony Wow, thank you very much for the detailed feedback! Very much appreciate all the kind praise, and also for discovering a bug I absolutely hadn't picked up on until you mentioned it. I'll see if I can push that as a typo fix! The shoulder button suggestion is also a super good easy win that would definitely improve the UX - I wanted to have it not require double tapping but that'd at least make it less painful to do so. Thanks again for putting all the time to playing it!

Very nice

reygis 2022-04-12 13:26

Ok that was nice, pretty simple but working, unfortunately i had a crash i don't know why.

But the DA is working and the gameplay too GG

lonelyliongames 2022-04-12 13:31

@smartwilliam aren't you one of the devs?

Simple but very fun concept, the graphics we're really nice too!

sleepystudios 2022-04-12 14:05

Really well done! Like others have said this would take off in VR. It's quick to learn but hard to master and I couldn't really find much fault with it. Loved the graphics, music and sound effects they all really added to the feel of the game. Nice work!

haayaargh 2022-04-12 19:29

Hello! I played your submission on my [HaaYaargh](https://www.twitch.tv/haayaargh) stream the other day.

I heard that the creator had only one day to make this, that's why it doesn't have a lot of content, but I found a lot of fun playing it. Entry level is quite high, but once you get a feel on when to do the riposte it becomes a very fast, very smooth simple reflex based game. Restarting is super fast which is a great thing for this kind of game were you die very often. Visuals, audio and colour theme compliments each other greatly.

Definitely not a great contender in theme category, but it was engaging, replayable fun :crossed_swords:

This is really fun! I have always been a fan of the vaporwave aesthetic, so seeing an entry like this is really nice. The only thing I could've wished for was a mask around the edges making it looked like one of the tube TV screens, and a few subtly used post processing effects such as chromatic abberation, fish lens, and static in order to fully complete the aesthetic. But those are more finer details-you nailed the important aspects! The audio also fits in really well, creating a strong mood for this piece. The gameplay is simple but well executed-I had no problem understanding it, but the gameplay quickly grew in difficulty as the back and forth between me and the opponent sped up. Overall, there's not too much here, but what *is* here is very solid and polished. Excellent work!

caudatecoder 2022-04-14 08:05

Beautiful and and quite a hard game! Really loved the overall aesthetic of it. I couldn't get used to the constantly changing speed of the "bullet" and I guess it might take quite a lot of practice to get used to it.

But overall a very solid entry, nice job!

I was streaming my playthrough of your game. Here's a recording in case you'd like to see it https://youtu.be/P3HI-2edlag

autogibbon 2022-04-16 12:31

Quite polished for only 12 hours work! If I could suggest a single addition to make this challenge more accessible, the bullet would flash or something as it enters the window of parry opportunity. Without that I found it really hard to gauge how far away it was and failed miserably.

hawkin 2022-04-19 02:47

Loved it once I got the hang of it! The increasing rhythm really is a clever mechanic. I can see easily getting good enough to far surpass this score, as the real limit with a linearly increasing rhythm would just be how quickly you can press the right button.

The aesthetics and visual effects are some of the best I've seen in the jam so far!

owngamesgamer 2022-04-19 17:15

Capture.PNG very addictive game got some nice scores love the visuals and the sound design just angry at the guy constatly laughing at me when I loose

hey mate sorry to ask but you were in the danger category just like me can you please play my game and rate it before the 2 days end thanks

m-dam 2022-04-19 18:51

It's fun! Although I wasn't very good at it.

It's a very promising concept and the most immediate way I can think of to make it better is to greatly improve the depth perception. I missed a lot because the distance of the projectile is very hard to estimate.
