I have mastered the monkey attack algorithm. I am one with the monkey. Actual review: The game is visually pleasing. Art is done really well and looks great well done. The game was also very fun (though the game play loop draws it out a bit) Music: It is really got some bangers that put me in the monkey mood. (However, whoever made the monkey noises scared the sh*t outta me) Humor: Monkey Theme: A bit standard with the theme, but more or less not bad Overall: A fun game and a good submission. Well done! Genuinely one of the funniest games I've played this jam. Loved the death screen.

jcmonkey 2022-04-05 05:20

i would put colliders on the monkeys so they dont overlap. you can make some monkeys faster or slower aswell to help with the overlapping.

kisilin 2022-04-05 08:50

Pretty good game! I have a lot of fun, the story is fun, the design are realy nice, the sound of the monkeys comming are just epic. I really had a good time. Even if I died inevitably

jamjamix 2022-04-05 13:42

This is a lot of fun! The movement was nice and snappy. Only thing I'd add is a stronger indication of when you take damage. I thought I was dodge rolling successfully and didn't realize I was taking tons of damage! Still overall this was a lot of fun and I loved the theme and sound effects.

@izokia @selicre @kisilin Thank you for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed it!

@jcmonkey Thanks for the feedback, greatly appreciated! Adding some randomization to the monkey's walk speed is a good idea which would've been a simple addition! We did add some randomization to their delays while roaming, but you're completely right that they get a bit clustered once they're on the chase.

@jamjamix Thanks, glad you had fun, and thanks for the feedback! The damage indication is a good note, as it can be hard to see with all the monkeys on screen.

mike-baldwin 2022-04-05 18:01

Great game! Loved the art style, very early 2000's feeling to it (the best). Not to echo other reviewers, but the monkey sounds are top-notch. Great job!

boykala 2022-04-06 04:44

I like the style. The intro cutscene especially reminds me of old point and click adventure games. The ending battle royale is cool. The gameplay is a bit basic despite having quite a few mechanics the lack of enemy variety makes it a bit repetitive. Still what's there is impressive for the time constraint good job!

zachsbutt 2022-04-06 04:49

great music, great monkey noises. what else could a game need?

Good Monkey Good Art Good Music Good Game

okami1752 2022-04-06 14:46

Thank you @apphons6, @zachsbutt, and @boykala! I am the musician and sound designer. I'm glad you enjoyed our little game. Yes, the enemy variety is limited, but that is because we ran out of time. Same thing with gameplay. But I'm glad that you liked it!

originaldog 2022-04-06 15:23

Loved the music/sounds and the artwork! The opening sequence set the tone really nicely, and the tutorial really helps the player get comfortable with the mechanics before things get spicy. Great job everyone! And more importantly... reject humanity, return to monke

100th-coin 2022-04-06 19:42

Haaa! I love the "dark souls" "YOU DEAD" screen. The artwork is fantastic! I love the character. The music is hilariously over the top, and I love it. Great work.

thenerdster 2022-04-07 04:19

Sound took this game from good to great. Nice work!

mrevilguy 2022-04-07 04:30

Monkey'd. Lots of fun rolling around. Crowd control was great. Loved the music and monkey theme. Definitely a vibin' game!

6smith 2022-04-07 04:31

i like the monkeys but they are so strong

not-tomo 2022-04-07 04:46

@originaldog Thanks for the feedback! I'm happy to hear the opening sequence was effective!

@100th-coin @thenerdster @mrevilguy Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed it!

@6smith Apes together... strong. :monkey_face:

MONKE! I loved the concept! Simple and clean movement and abilities. Also This is indeed the dark souls of MONKE games! Really liked the art and music as well

For me personally, initially it was difficult to understand what I was supposed to be doing as I was just running around, only then did I find the arena! Is there a way we can get out of it or is it just to see how long we survive? I wanted to know if we could somehow get to the monkey guarding the golden door? Another suggestion would be the ability to start the game a little faster as each time you are made to sit through the initial cut scene which imo takes quiet some time :3

I survived until 53 in the arena :3 pretty proud of myself for that! Great work everyone! A very fun and polished product here!!

proxy-games 2022-04-07 08:20

I had so much fun with this. I love the intro cutscene-the style reminds me of *Undertale* quite a bit, and the initial tutorial does a great job of getting the player used to the mechanics. The environment art is okay, but where the graphics shine are with the character art and animations. The use of dubstep for once the monkeys are introduced is perfect for setting a feeling of complete panic, and shoutout to the programmer who coded the monkeys to spaz out when chasing you sometimes or when going for a banana.

The gameplay mechanics are very polished and well-done, and every action feels purposeful. Overall, everything comes together and gives a feeling of adrenaline pumping through your veins as you avoid an onslaught of monkeys. It, in fact, did so well that when about 12 monkeys dove for me all at once, I accidentally breathed while swallowing the monkey I was drinking. I proceeded to choke on water while repeatedly panic rolling (and then died 10 seconds later). Thanks for that.

Overall, amazing job!

sodoj 2022-04-07 13:53

This is a fun little game! I loved it's fast pace and the unconventional method of dealing with enemies. Also, those monkey sounds are super convincing, I can see why the guy doing it got the credit for it lol

However, rolling diagonally is super OP, it's twice as fast and it covers double the distance of normal rolling, making the juking of monkeys very trivial. Maybe you'd want to take a look at that o:

Overall, I had fun, good job!

orerez 2022-04-07 13:58

love it, although there aren't much instructions of what to do in the "judgment" section

rickylee 2022-04-07 14:02

Great! xD I'm guessing that last rom is the inevitable death? I couldn't get through it otherwise just kept getting monkey'D :') Great submission!

emaigualmc2-art 2022-04-07 15:38

Very funny! when there are so many monkeys it really gets hard! xD The sound and the art are great, I think that polishing the animations and certain places on the stage so that they are better understood, it would greatly improve the gameplay and the sensations of the game. Great job! I would like to see it more polished!

otterfaelure 2022-04-07 19:26

Monkeys!!! I'll admit that I feel a bit lost as to why this manor is inevitable, but you gotta love some monkey banana humour. Pretty solid work for a game made in the short length of a jam!

viittaa 2022-04-07 22:11

very cool visuals and sound! I even got a little tense because of the monkey invasion.. When there are a huge number of them, I start to press all the buttons and panic, but it's fun!🤣 I love this game, it's fun!!

0x-void-x0 2022-04-08 13:16

I love how subtle the tutorial is, the music that doesn't get in the way, the dark souls reference.. all the attention to details is great in this game and I really like it, well done!

ginxel 2022-04-08 17:46

The main character slightly reminds me of Papa's Pizzeria To Go haha overall very cute graphics :D

jelch 2022-04-09 17:39

*"The City of Zinj... every word of it was absolutely true!"*

Very cute art style! I would have loved to play with a controller. Nice job!

brotherst 2022-04-10 07:25

Nice little game! With the dramatic opening, mix of humour, playful graphics, dubstep, dark souls end screen it's definitely a mixed bag :D

I enjoyed the end survival game but it would be cool if there were more setup to tell you that's what it was. It sort of tricks you by presenting you different routes and levels and you expect that to go on, or expect there to be some sort of consequence to choosing a certain path, but then the game just ends and your temple journey is over. I think it could have worked better as an endless dungeon crawler, where the goal is to get deeper and deeper into the temple!

Overall though it was a crazy, fun experience, nice one guys :)

charq 2022-04-11 03:05

The monkeys were super cute (although they were attacking me). I couldn't aim the bananas very well so I ate most of them to replenish my health. I was able to run really fast diagonally, was it intentional?

Thank you for sharing your game on my Twitch stream (MsMiaChar). Please check out my feedback at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1447734991?t=01h36m05s.

jchab 2022-04-12 21:32

cool character art! cool premise too but has a bit of anti climactic feel after the cool intro we get. but, cool game overall
